  • Named Range Breaks Code

    - by Daniel
I have one workbook with several sheets. I populate the listboxes (pulling static data from cells) on the 2nd sheet, click a button and it runs fine. When I populate the listboxes with a named range, the listbox populates the way I want, but I get an error because the code thinks that I didn't select anything in the listbox, even though I did. So it passes through "" instead of "title". Is this a common issue? The named range isn't a problem because it passes through the data to the listbox and I know it's selecting data because as soon as the listbox loses focus, it spits out the contents of the cell into cell A1. What's even stranger is that I have the contents of the listbox set to Msg1. So A1 gets populated with Msg1 (what I actually selected in the listbox). But when I try and use Msg1 in the code, it tells me that Msg1 is "". Again, this only happens when I use the dynamic named range, not with static data in cells K1:K9. Private Function strEndSQL1 As String Dim strSQL As String strSQL = "" 'Create SQL statement strSQL = "FROM (SELECT * FROM dbo.Filter WHERE ID = " & TextBox1.Text & " And Source IN (" & Msg1 & ")) a FULL OUTER JOIN " strSQL = strSQL & "(SELECT * FROM dbo.Filters WHERE ID = " & TextBox2.Text & " And Source IN (" & Msg1 & ")) b " strSQL = strSQL & "ON a.Group = b.Group strEndSQL = strSQL End Function

  • Time difference in seconds (as a floating point)

    - by pocoa
    >>> from datetime import datetime >>> t1 = datetime.now() >>> t2 = datetime.now() >>> delta = t2 - t1 >>> delta.seconds 7 >>> delta.microseconds 631000 Is there any way to get that as 7.631000 ? I can use time module, but I also need that t1 and t2 variables as DateTime objects. So if there is a way to do it with datettime, that would be great.

  • How to tell if 2 arrays share the same element.

    - by Ommit
So this is a simpler form of my problem. Lets say I have 2 arrays. A= {1,2} and B={2,4,6}. If A and B share an element then delete that element from B. I know you can loop through and compare each element in A to each element in B, but there's got to be a better way!

  • Why does casting to double using "String * 1" fail? Will CDbl(String) work on all systems?

    - by Jamie Bull
I have an application which contains the line below to assign a parsed XML value to a variant array. V(2) = latNode.Text * 1 This works fine on my system (Windows 7, Excel 2010) but doesn't work on some other system or systems - and I've not been able to get a response from the user who reported the problem. I've switched out the offending line for: V(2) = CDbl(latNode.Text) This still works on my system, but then I had no problem in the first place. The question is on what systems does the first approach fail and why, and will the second method always work? I'm sure I've used the "Stying * 1" trick elsewhere before and would like to know how concerned I should be about tracking down other occurrences. Thanks.

  • Can't get findnext property of range class error

    - by Lawrence Knowlton
I am trying to parse a report in Excel 2007. It is basically a report of accounting charge exceptions. The report has sections with a header for each type of exception. There are types of exceptions that are deleted from the report. I'm using a Do While loop to find each header and if the section needs to be deleted I have it do so. If nothing needs to be deleted the code works fine, but right after a section is deleted I get an "Unable to get the FindNext property of the Range Class" error. Here is my code: Sub merge_All_Section_Headers() ' Description: ' The next portion macro will find and format the Tranaction Source rows in the file ' by checking each row in column A for the following text: TRANSA. If a cell ' has this text in it, it is selected and a function called merge_text_cells ' is run, which performs concatenation of each Transaction Source header row and ' deletes the text from the rest of the cells with broken up text. ' lastRow = ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count + 1 Range(lastRow & ":" & lastRow).Delete ActiveSheet.PageSetup.Orientation = xlLandscape With ActiveSheet.Range("A:A") Dim searchString As String searchString = "TRANSA" 'The following sets stringFound to either true or false based on whether or not 'the searchString (TRANSA) is found or not): Set stringFound = .Find(searchString, LookIn:=xlValues, lookat:=xlPart) If Not stringFound Is Nothing Then firstLocation = stringFound.Address Do stringFound.Select lastFound = stringFound.Address merge_Text_Cells If ((InStr(ActiveCell.Text, "CHARGE FILER") = 0) And _ (InStr(ActiveCell.Text, "CREDIT FILER") = 0) And _ (InStr(ActiveCell.Text, "PA MIDNIGHT FINAL") = 0) And _ (InStr(ActiveCell.Text, "BAD DEBT TURNOVER") = 0)) Then section_Del 'Function that deletes unwanted sections End If Range(lastFound).Select Set stringFound = .FindNext(stringFound) Loop While Not stringFound Is Nothing And stringFound.Address <> firstLocation End If End With Like I said it works fine when the section_Del is commented out. Any ideas as to how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Runtime Error 1004 using Select with several workbooks

    - by Johaen
I have an Excel workbook which pulls out data from two other workbooks. Since the data changes hourly there is the possibility that this macro is used more than one time a day for the same data. So I just want to select all previous data to this date period and want to delete them. Later on the data will be copied in anyway. But as soon as I want to use WBSH.Range(Cells(j, "A"), Cells(lastRow - 1, "M")).Select the code stopes with Error 1004 Application-defined or object-defined error. Followed just a snippet of the code with the relevant part. What is wrong here? 'Set source workbook Dim currentWb As Workbook Set currentWb = ThisWorkbook Set WBSH = currentWb.Sheets("Tracking") 'Query which data from the tracking files shoud get pulled out to the file CheckDate = Application.InputBox(("From which date you want to get data?" & vbCrLf & "Format: yyyy/mm/dd "), "Tracking data", Format(Date - 1, "yyyy/mm/dd")) 'states the last entry which is done ; know where to start ; currentWb File With currentWb.Sheets("Tracking") lastRow = .Range("D" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row lastRow = lastRow + 1 End With 'just last 250 entries get checked since not so many entries are made in one week j = lastRow - 250 'Check if there is already data to the look up date in the analyses sheet and if so deletes these records Do j = j + 1 'Exit Sub if there is no data to compare to prevent overflow If WBSH.Cells(j + 1, "C").Value = "" Then Exit Do End If Loop While WBSH.Cells(j, "C").Value < CheckDate If j <> lastRow - 1 Then 'WBSH.Range(Cells(j, "A"), Cells(lastRow - 1, "M")).Select 'Selection.ClearContents End If Thank you!

  • Reverse - Link Cell to Textbox

    - by Daniel
I have 5 worksheets and a textbox on each worksheet. I would like all the textboxes to display the same value, which would be whatever the user enters in the first textbox. So once a value is entered in textbox1 on sheet1, textbox2 on sheet2, etc. will be populated with the same value. I'm looking for something like changing linkedcell =WorksheetName!textbox1 although I'm pretty sure that is incorrect.

  • Inserting equation numbers macro

    - by krzych
I want to insert equations into Word 2010. I'm inserting the center-aligned equations and then want to add a number to the same line, which will be aligned to the right hand side of the page. I'm having a problem with setting the alignment of the number to the right with equation aligned to center. My code is currently only inserting the number without the correct alignment: Sub EqnNumber() Selection.TypeText Text:="(" Selection.Fields.Add Range:=Selection.Range, Type:=wdFieldEmpty, _ Text:="STYLEREF \s ""Naglówek 1"" ", PreserveFormatting:=True Selection.TypeText Text:="." Selection.Fields.Add Range:=Selection.Range, Type:=wdFieldEmpty, _ Text:="SEQ Rysunek \* ARABIC \s 1", PreserveFormatting:=True Selection.TypeText Text:=")" End Sub

  • Concatenation yields error with underscore

    - by Daniel
I am trying to create a macro that brings in the name of the sheet and combine it with text. For example, for sheet one, I want it to say "ThisIs_Sheet1_Test" in I5 of Sheet1. There are several sheets but it should work for all of them. What is wrong with my code? I think the underscore might be ruining it all. Here's what I have: Dim SheetName As String Public Sub CommandButton1_Click() SheetName = ActiveSheet.Name Sheets("Sheet1").Range("I5", "I5") = ThisIs_" & SheetName.text & "_Test Sheets("Sheet2").Range("H5", "H5") = ThisIs_" & SheetName.text & "_Test Sheets("Sheet3").Range("G5", "G5") = ThisIs_" & SheetName.text & "_Test End Sub

  • Store #VALUE! #NUM! #REF! in variable.

    - by Ommit
So a simple version of what I'm trying to do. Say I know there is an error in cell(1,1), furthermore I know it is either #num!, #ref! or #value!, I want to be able to store the respective error message in a variable, so I can print it to a different sheet. This is what I tried and it clearly failed. Sub FindAndPrintErrors dim Store as string If IsError(Range("A1"))) = True Then Store = Range("A1").value 'it breaks here' end if range("B1") = Store end sub I know I can do this but I wonder if there is a better way. Sub FindAndPrintErrors2 dim Store If IsError(Range("A1"))) = True Then temp = Range("A1").value 'it breaks here' if temp = "error 2029" then store = "#num!" ' and so on' end if range("B1") = Store end sub

  • Event(s) for opening the workbook AND worksheets

    - by KeyMs92
I'm looking for an elegant solution to trigger an event for opening the workbook as well as opening different worksheets. I don't need seperate operations for each worksheet: they all trigger the same method. I know I can use the events Workbook_Activate / Workbook_Open and Workbook_SheetActivate at the same time but I don't know if this is 'the official way' to do it. Perhaps there's a way to do this with one event. I was also wondering if it is relevant in this matter where I put the code. I now have all the code inside "ThisWorkbook" and not in a "Module"...

  • MS Access Can't move to a different record?

    - by user986706
Ok, I'm really baffled. Here's the rundown: I've created a form with a subform. The main form is called FacilityInfo, and the subform is called BillingInfo. The forms are linked via 3 fields, AffiliateID, ClientID, and FacilityID. the subform shows one record at a time, set to show Continuous Forms, and AllowAdditions = No I can see that there are 4 records in the nav bar. But Access won't let me move off the first record. I've tried setting to Single Form. I've tried AllowAdditions = Yes. I do have a Vertical Scroll bar on the subform. It will allow me to scroll through the records, but I can only see them. I cannot move to one of the controls. Any ideas? I'm freakin' out! Thanks in advance!

  • Create Macro With Several Variables

    - by Daniel
I have several worksheets with similar code, so I'd like to turn it into a macro. My only problem is that there are several variables. So at certain points the code looks like this: Dim Msg_1 As String Dim Msg_2 As String Public Sub ListBox1_LostFocus() ListBox1.Height = 15 With ListBox1 Msg1 = "'" For i = 0 To .ListCount - 1 If .Selected(i) Then Msg1 = Msg1 & .List(i) & "','" End If Next i End With Msg1 = Left(Msg1, Len(Msg1) - 2) Sheets("Sheet1").Range("R3", "R3") = Msg1 End Sub and so on. How can I pass in a new value for Msg1, Msg2, Msg3 for each worksheet?

  • How to define large list of strings in Visual Basic

    - by Jenny_Winters
I'm writing a macro in Visual Basic for PowerPoint 2010. I'd like to initialize a really big list of strings like: big_ol_array = Array( _ "string1", _ "string2", _ "string3", _ "string4" , _ ..... "string9999" _ ) ...but I get the "Too many line continuations" error in the editor. When I try to just initialize the big array with no line breaks, the VB editor can't handle such a long line (1000+) characters. Does anyone know a good way to initialize a huge list of strings in VB? Thanks in advance!

  • Blinking power button

    - by Mike Ramsey
A friend asked me to look at his Gateway DX4640 desktop. When he presses the power button, power goes to the mobo (NVIDIA nForce 630i MCP73PV, GeForce 7100 chipset) and the CPU fan starts spinning. The power button slowely blinks on and off (blue) and the screen briefly says no signal and then goes black. And nothing else; no post code beeps. My initial two conjectures were: 1. Vista was stuck in sleep/hibernation mode, or 2. A power off had left the mobo in a bad state. The fix for both is to: a) Unplug the AC power cord b) hold the power button for 30 second to fully discharge the mobo It didn't help. I left the system unplugged from AC power for an hour. No change. I am out of ideas. Has anybody seen anything like this before? What does a blinking blue power button mean? How can I get more data points to guide trouble shooting? --Thank you, --Mike

  • Is the difference between superuser and serverfault basically when you can do a power cycle?

    - by wag2639
Generally speaking, aren't there a lot of problems that can be fixed with just a simple power cycle? Especially with Windows, a reboot will solve the problems (at least temporarily)? So, would this be the difference between serverfault and superuser? Generally, where as a superuser might just be annoyed by a restart/power cycle, a sysadmin cannot because its a critical system or otherwise production box?

  • Can a 300W power supply support two additional hard drives?

    - by Josh
I am thinking of purchasing the Dell I580-5108NBC, but I want to add 2 1TB SATA drives in a RAID5 config. The system only has a 300W power supply, and already has a 1TB drive and a DVD burner. Is the 300W power supply sufficient to support two additional drives, or should I upgrade it? Or, can I simply unplug the DVD burner?
