    I am creating a Blackjack Card game emulator. I am a SCJP,familiar with Core Java concepts. I have a very basic understanding of Java swings and awt. Already finished writing the basic game logic,a CLI logic. My design includes several classes like, Dealer,Player,Table,Card,Casino and some others.. Enums for Cards and suite. I have read about MVC as a theoretical concept, familiar with the name 'design patters'(no understanding whatsoever as to how they are implemented) Everywhere I am suggested to learn while writing some real code.So I started off with this... I am stuck now, how should I go about writing code for my project?? Writing the GUI code and organising it within the already existent code.

  • How can I implement "real time" messaging on Google AppEngine?

    I'm creating a web application on Google AppEngine where I want the user to be notified a quickly as possible after certain events occour. The problem is similar to say a chat server in that I need something happening on one connection (someone is writing a message in a chat room) to propagate to a number of other connections (other people in that chat room gets the message). To get speedy updates from the server to the client I'm planning on using long polling with XmlHttpRequest, hoping that AppEngine won't interfere other than possibly restriing the timeout. The real problem however is efficient notification between connections on AppEngine. Is there any support for this type of cross connection notification on AppEngine that does not involve busy-waiting? The only tools I can think of to do this at all is either using the data storage (slow) or memcache (unreliable), and none of them would let me avoid busy-waiting. Note: I know about XMPP support on AppEngine. It's related, but I want a browser based solution, sending messages to the users by XMPP is not an option.

  • Comments on this assumption about running on dev server vs a real instance in app engine (python)?

    Hello app engineers! I'm on an app engine project where I'd like to put in a link to a Javascript test runner that I'd like to only exist when running the development server. I've made some experiments on a local shell with configuration loaded using the technique found in NoseGAE versus live on the 'App Engine Console' [1] and it looks to me like a distinction btw real instance and dev server is the presence of the module google.appengine.tools. Which lead me to this utility function: def is_dev(): """ Tells us if we're running under the development server or not. :return: ``True`` if the code is running under the development server. """ try: from google.appengine import tools return True except ImportError: return False The question (finally!) would be: is this a bad idea? And in that case, can anyone suggest a better approach?   • Undefined behaviour with non-virtual destructors - is it a real-world issue?

    Consider the following code: class A { public: A() {} ~A() {} }; class B: public A { B() {} ~B() {} }; A* b = new B; delete b; // undefined behaviour My understanding is that the C++ standard says that deleting b is undefined behaviour - ie, anything could happen. But, in the real world, my experience is that ~A() is always invoked, and the memory is correctly freed. if B introduces any class members with their own destructors, they won't get invoked, but I'm only interested in the simple kind of case above, where inheritance is used maybe to fix a bug in one class method for which source code is unavailable. Obviously this isn't going to be what you want in non-trivial cases, but it is at least consistent. Are you aware of any C++ implementation where the above does NOT happen, for the code shown?

  • Are there any ASP.NET MVC Real Time View Editors?

    I'm looking for a tool and I'm not even sure of the proper name. Please be patient with me as I explain. I'm doing a lot of html/mvc 2 work. Using the standard MVC 2 view engine, I would like to have an editor that shows real time changes in the browser. If I re-arrange div elements containing standard HTML and some server side components, I would like the browser to update without a manual refresh. Are there any tools that are currently available that would meet that requirement?

  • Is there any real advantage to use zend ce server over just referencing (include) the zend framework library?

    Hi, I'm new to PHP frameworks, and currently I'm trying Zend Framework (ZF). I'm old fashioned when it comes to installing software, I like to install apache/mysql/php all separetely since I find easier and it gives me more control of it. It seems that the "encouraged" way to develop with Zend Framework is using the Zend (CE) Server. I personally don't like this idea of a app install everything else (PHP/Apache and so on). From what I've seen if I include Zend Framework Library in php.ini path I'm ready to go. So is there any real advantage to use the Full Zend (CE) Server??

  • Are there any real life uses for the Java byte primitive type?

    For some inexplicable reason the byte primitive type is signed in Java. This mean that valid values are -128..127 instead of the usual 0..255 range representing 8 significant bits in a byte (without a sign bit). This mean that all byte manipulation code usually does integer calculations and end up masking out the last 8 bits. I was wondering if there is any real life scenario where the Java byte primitive type fits perfectly or if it is simply a completely useless design decision? EDIT: The sole actual use case was a single-byte placeholder for native code. In other words, not to be manipulated as a byte inside Java code.

  • Why does `rpm` show 3 httpd packages, and which one provides the real httpd?

    I ran yum update on my CentOS5 webserver a few days ago. Today I just noticed that I have 3 httpd-* rpms! How can I end up with three RPMs for httpd (My other servers only have one httpd rpm). I want to make sure that my server has a patched, updated version of /usr/sbin/httpd. How can I tell which one of these packages provides the httpd binary at /usr/sbin/httpd?   • Is it possible to rent an IP address to mask the server real IP address?

    A customer would like to lease an IP address and point it to a dedicated web server with the intention of "masking" the server's IP address so it would be difficult to tell where the site is hosted. I found a company that leases IP addresses here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1191688 Is this even possible? Can they rent an IP address from a 3rd party in order to hide the server's IP address? Update: My client will be hosting a government leaks site and is trying to become Raid-Proof similar to what the pirate bay did: http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-moves-to-the-cloud-becomes-raid-proof-121017/ Only that I'm worried about using a reverse proxy because of the latency it could cause having the app servers hosted in one data center and the load balancer/reverse proxy in other and also having to pay twice for bandwidth.

  • TextMate blogging bundle: real sync between blog and project?

    I'm looking for a solution to sync between a blog and a project or any other folder for that matter. Alternatively, any other Mac app would help which allows to sync an xmlrpc.php with a folder. The TextMate Blogging bundle works fine with fetch and post. But I can't find a way to sync. I tend to re-edit my blog posts, e.g. categories and formatting details. There's a good chance I lose some work, when I post the project file again rather than fetch + re-post.

    I am trying to access IIS through web but unable to do so. Basically I have a router (which functions as router and modem) that is given by ISP and I have another router connected to the router given by ISP. My ISP's router can be visited through 192.168.0.1 and the router that I connected to ISP's router can be visited through 192.168.1.1 Please see my ISP's router: As you can see I have DMZ enabled for my router of 192.168.1.1 Now please see my router of 192.168.1.1: As you can see I added a virtual server for port 80 where 192.168.1.125 is my private IP. I rebooted both of my modems an tried to visit my IP from: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and after doing so, when I type my live IP I still see my router of 192.168.0.1 instead of my IIS. What am I missing? Note: I have disabled Firewall on both of the routers. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is there a Linux-compatible R/C simulator that works with real radios?

    My Dad flies radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft. He used to run a simulator called "RealFlight" which allowed him to connect his actual radio to his computer and fly simulated craft. He learned enough to fly actual planes, but he wants to move up from "trainer" aircraft to higher-performance craft. After some crashes, he'd like to go back to the simulator for a while. The catch: he's given up Windows and is now running Ubuntu. Question: is there an R/C flight simulator that Runs on Ubuntu? Allows you to connect your radio and use it to control the simulator, preferably through a USB port?

  • Is there a real problem in this Retrospect duplicate of my hard drive?

    I recently duplicated my XP "C" drive, using Retrospect. When it finished, there were 6 errors. I checked the log and the 1st error referred to Microsoft Security Essentials\Support\Applications.etl: Appears incomplete. The other 5 errors referred to the Microsoft SQL Server.....\MSSQL\log_...trc: Appears incomplete. Is this a problem that can be solved by reinstalling Microsoft Security Essentials? Or wht else?   • Is there a real code-free webpage design tool ?

    Recently I was doing web design. I found that the current web design tool (like Expression Web, Dreamweaver) is terribly coupled with code. Though I managed to use HTML, CSS and many others, I found those tool not free enough when came to design. What I want is a totaly code-free design tool with which I can use to draw the layout, paste pictures, add texts and so on. It doesn't need to have functionality to covert the design into code because I can do it myself. That is to say, I need the software to create a blueprint for me. I'm currently using Photoshop to do this. However it is too stupid in displying the layout (It can't show the width and many other attributes, I had to draw them by myself). Can you find one for me?   • SQL Server 2008R2 Express: which is the users limit in a real case scenario?

    I know that sql server express has not a user limit, and every application has a different way to load/stress the server. But let's take "a typical accounting software", where users input some record, retrieve some data and from time to time they make some custom big queries. May someone share its own experience and tell me which is the limit of users that can realistically use a sql server express instance in this scenario? I am looking for an indicative idea, like (as an example): "I had a company with an average of 40 users logged in and the application was working ok on sql server express, but when the users become 60 the application started to seem non repsonsive" (please note this sentence is pure imagination, I just wrote it as an example).
