  • Getting ajaxterm to work on Debian Lenny

    - by Kevin Duke
I've been knocking my head out for a while on this one and have read many tutorials, but I just can't get this to work. Ajaxterm, is a webbased SSH client; once installed apt-get install ajaxterm and then enabling it with /etc/init.d/ajaxterm start I should be able to access the SSH terminal with http://mywebsite:8022/ But doing so only gives me a "Page not found", any suggestions? My actual VPS is: http://173.244.205.160 My sources: https://secure.kitserve.org.uk/content/setting-ajaxterm-Ubuntu-and-Debian-powerpc http://wiki.kartbuilding.net/index.php/ajaxterm

  • Will running CSF & Bastille cause any conflicts?

    - by MatW
I'm taking my first steps into the world of un-managed servers, and have confused myself whilst reading through the 101 tutorials on server hardening that Google spews out! The most recent advice I have been given is to install both CSF and Bastille on my server (used to serve a consumer-facing ecommerce site and act as the business' email server), but my understanding was that both of these tools were an abstraction layer above netfilter / iptables. Will installing both packages cause any conflicts, or do they play well together?

  • What is the best method for ripping DVD to stream to Xbox 360?

    - by Dan9298
What is the best method to rip/encode a standard definition DVD, to be streamed to a Xbox360 from a Vista Media Center pc (preferably using free software). I’ve found tons of tutorials on the web explaining how to create wmv’s from vob files using FFMpeg, but every combination of settings that I have tried has resulted in very poor video quality. I’ve also tried various video conmversion tools, but everything seems to result in poor video quality, or audio that is out of sync with the picture. Please help!

  • How can I draw "perfect" squiggly lines in Photoshop?

    - by loosebruce
I want to create a logo that for the two "o" characters uses a series of squiggly lines in the the shape of an "o". Sketch: I did this with Paint but I obviously want consistency with the squiggly lines and close to a circular layout. Why squiggly lines? Well, it's to reinforce the word itself being "loose". Does anyone have any ideas how to tackle making this or tutorials that do similar things to word art?

  • VirtualBox OSE: Install Guest OS On Headless Host Via VNC?

    - by Eddie Parker
I've remotely installed VirtualBox OSE on my Gentoo box at home. I have everything set up and ready for the OS. However all the documentation I've read seems to say that you can only use the PUEL version in order to get remote access during installs - does anyone know if it's possible to do similar with the OSE but using VNC? Links to documentation or tutorials would be welcome, apparently my Google-Fu is failing me, if it's out there. Thanks.

  • Is it okay to use a SSH key with an empty passphrase?

    - by mozillalives
When I first learned how to make ssh keys, the tutorials I read all stated that a good passphrase should be chosen. But recently, when setting up a daemon process that needs to ssh to another machine, I discovered that the only way (it seems) to have a key that I don't need to auth at every boot is to create a key with an empty passphrase. So my question is, what are the concerns with using a key with no passphrase?

  • Autoscaling EC2 with NFS mounts

    - by Jamie Taylor
I'm trying to set up a shared filesystem on EC2 and I've read tutorials such as this: http://blog.ronaldmccollam.com/2012/07/configuring-nfs-on-ubuntu-in-amazon-ec2.html In step 2 it talks about configuring the exports, for this I need an IP range but when I'm auto-scaling I can't predict what the IP will be before it scales. Is there any other way of doing this while still staying secure? Thanks Edit: Just tried s3fs, didn't seem to work properly

  • How to re-enable Autoplay for removeable drives on Windows 7

    - by Clay Nichols
When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches. Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either. I verified that Win7 is set to autoplay, per method 1 and 2 of: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/27544-autoplay-enable-disable-autorun.html FYI, there is a similar question (but for Windows XP) here on SU.

  • LVM Extend... not sure the filesystem

    - by Dan
I would like to extend my LVM partition. First I did lvextend -L +100G /dev/server/home Now I still have to extend the filesystem. The tutorials tell me to use resize2fs, but that only works for ext2 and ext3. I'm not even sure what filesystem I have... fdisk /dev/server/home/ doesn't work... how do I know what kind of filesystem I have on my lvm partition?
