When I set google chrome as the default browser, it picks the "default" user profile as against the custom one I have setup. • Windows 7 Refuses To Install To A Partition

  I have 4 HDDs in my PC on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3 rev1.0 motherboard on SATA ports 0-3 and running AHCI mode. Windows 7 refuses to let me install to any partitions or disks I select saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. I will get to the bottom of this, after I sacrifice my Friday nights and weekends to Microsoft (they don't just want my money, they want my soul). Keep tuned, if no one has the answer, I will find one. I suspect I have to rip out 3 HDDs so that the n00bs at Microsoft can actually deal with spinning media. Really angers me how paid-for-products are so inferior to Linux they don't even qualify to be called "software".

• Windows Internet Connection sharing with Mobile Broadband

  Due to circumstances, I have only got mobile broadband where I am living. I have a small network with a ADSL Router (but which isn't connected to the Internet. I want to use ICS to allow one machine (with the MBB modem) to act as the Internet interface and allow other machines connected to the ADSL router (including a new Android tablet by WiFi) to use the single mobile broadband connection. I've a feeling that my configuration is not valid - as it stands, but I'm not sure. Can some kind soul lead me "by the nose" to getting this working? • More Retro Games

  Last week I made 2 stops to my local game stores and spent a load of cash on a bunch of new retro games for my collection.  Here are the recent additions: NES - Mega Man 2 - The Adventures of Bayou Billy - Ducktales - Metal Gear - Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt - Firestorm - Dragon's Lair - Bartman Meets Radioactive Man N64 - Superman 64 - Zelda: Ocarina of Time (in original box, box is in poor condition) Atari - Superman - Adventure - Donkey Kong - Raiders of the Lost Ark Dreamcast - Memory card with view screen - Space Channel 5 Genesis (all in case) - Jurassic Park - Sonic Spinball - Sonic the Hegehog 3 (missing manual) - Spiderman (also called Spiderman vs. The Kingpin) GameGear - Bart vs The Space Mutants Quite a large haul given it was all purchased in 2 days.  Although, Metal Gear I got for a great deal and almost considered buying their other copy simply to resale for more though I decided against it to let another lucky soul find it.  I may need to run over there again because I think they had TMNT 2 (NES) for around $6 and it usually sells for more than that.  I could have sworn I grabbed it and bought it but my receipt tells me differently. I also found my copy of Super Mario 3 and added that to my collection.  Unfortunately one of the corners of the label has begun to peel up pretty badly which sucks although it's still a good item for the collection. In other retro news, this weekend was Easter and while at my grandparents the cousins wanted to play on their NES which was not working.  Me being the retro NES nerd I am, grabbed a screw driver, some Windex, a few toothpicks, and a few cotton swabs and had it up and running under an hour (that includes eating dinner!).  The NES holds the games tighter, has a better connection, and works almost instantly.  I should do THAT for a living!

• I am having trouble booting 12.04 keyboard and little man in circle appears and then nothing

  I have a new system (ASUS 990FX mother board, 2 western dig drives, 32 gb memory, an ASUS nvidia video card (GeForce GTX560), and an ASUS DVD Burner (24B1ST)) I am struggling to get the 12.04 cd to work. I have been able to see the little man inside a circle and a graphic of a keyboard? with an == sign between them. Is this is a clue? What does it mean? After that the mauve screen with keyboard and little man in circle goes away. I get a dark background and underline cursor... even hear some work being done reading the rom.... but nothing appears on the screen. I haven't even got to the point where the graphic card is displaying improperly... it is just not displaying anything. If any kind soul has an idea about how to proceed, I am all ears. BTW, I have posted the issue to ASUS... waiting for reply.

• Steps to send patch to Launchpad

  With a Git/Github background and knowing very little about Bazaar VCS, I would like to occasionally report a bug to Launchpad and even send a patch. I'd like to do it in a "proper" way so that it's ready for merging or improvement while not getting in way. I can't seem to find a decent simple How-to suited for my needs. So what I did so far: I have created a Launchpad account, reported the bug, installed Bazaar and setup SSH keys etc. Now if it was Github, I'd fork the repo, clone the forked repo, create a sanely named branch and do the work, commit + push, create a pull request using Github WUI. But it's not Github, and both LP and Bazaar architectures seem quite different from their Github/Git cunterparts. So could a kind soul save me from drowning in tons of documents and complile a straightforward step path, mainly the second part? Possibly including relevant CLI commands when they are needed? Edit: It seems that I should clarify if I'm asking specifically about Ubuntu packages (whatever it means) or Launchpad packages. I don't really care much about distinction between Ubuntu packages and non-Ubuntu packages. Any software could be in Ubuntu today and out of it tomorrow, or vice-versa. The development is what matters much more than distribution. Ao I was assuming that not every single package distributed in Ubuntu is hosted on Launchpad, an "official" or "default" workflow for Launchpad exists (well if all devs can agree on using Bazaar, why couldn't most of them agree on a patching workflow?), so I'm asking about the Launchpad way, not the Ubuntu way. And I chose AU because since the intersection is vast, I guess it's pretty on topic here.

• nautilus will not start, no right click menu, apps will not run due to 64bit libicui18n.so.48 overwritten with 32bit, ubuntu 12.04

  yeah so i broke my system trying to install support for 32bit apps. Somehow the 32bit set of libicu*.so.48 files replaced my 64bit files and now nothing works. I know what the problem is and how to fix it , what i need is some help. I need some kind soul running a 64bit install of Ubuntu 12.04 to simply go into their /usr/lib dir and copy the files that have the form libicu*.so.48* (8 of them i think, maybe 16 i dunno how many there is supposed to be since they were overwritten). Anyway if you could put those files in an archive, zip or tar preferred and then email/share the link. I was able to get these files installed but they're from the latest edition of fedora and while i can now use my computer , it's not that stable things don't start right smoothly every time like they used to .... and well its a simple ordeal to put things back the way they were if someone wouldn't mind helping out. also any help setting up the libraries related to 32bit apps would be great as well as i apparently screwed that up royally. • Troubleshooting transient Windows I/O "The parameter is incorrect." errors

  We have a set of .Net 2.0 applications running on Windows 2003 servers which have started experiencing transient "The parameter is incorrect." Windows I/O errors. These errors always happen accessing a file share on a SAN. The fact that this error has happened with multiple applications and multiple servers leads me to believe that this is an infrastructure issue of some sort. The applications all run under the same domain account. When the errors occur they generally will resolve themselves within a few minutes. I can log in to the application server once the error starts occurring and access the file share myself with no problems. I have looked at the Windows event logs and haven't found anything useful. Due to the generic nature of "The parameter is incorrect.", I am looking for additional troubleshooting suggestions for this error. A sample stack trace is below. Note that while this example was during a directory creation operation, when the problem is occurring, this exception is thrown for any file system operations on the share. Exception 1: System.IO.IOException Message: The parameter is incorrect. • Why does bash sometimes think my $HOME isn't the correct directory?

  Like the title says it seems that bash sometimes misidentifies my $HOME. This cropped up after a seemingly unique series of events that I will now replay in broad strokes. Running OS X 10.6 with normal, local account Work binds my account to Active Directory Much time passes with no issues Set up rvm to manage Ruby installs (this becomes important later) Upgraded to OS X 10.7 a few days ago After successful install, attempted to log in, was presented with "Must reset password" dialog that never allowed a password to be reset. Would simply shake the box after new password was entered. Much googling was done. Much more googling was done. Swearing was had. Logged in as root, created new account, set as admin, deleted /Users/[new account], renamed /Users/[old account] to /Users/[new account] Logged out of root, logged into new account with no issues After OS X asking for a my account password a few times to update Keychain and other system-level stuff it was back to business as usual. Opened Terminal, cd to project folder, tried "rails server" and was presented with: /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:247:in to_specs': Could not find rails (>= 0) amongst [] (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:256:into_spec' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems.rb:1210:in gem' from /usr/local/bin/rails:18:in' Ran through a few exercises, decided to rm -rf ~/.rvm and reinstall. Running a --trace on the rvm installer shows it dies on this line: mkdir: /Users/[old account]: Permission denied Scrolling back through the --trace log I see many more mentions of /Users/[old account]. When inspect the install script the offending line is looking at "${HOME}/.rvm" as it tries to run the mkdir. To my confusion I also see mentions of /Users/[new account] in the log. I've tried exporting a new HOME in my .bash_profile to no luck. Can anyone guess why /Users/[old account] would still be kicking around?

  I have run into issue when set up IIS 7 Farm for Load balancing. Add 4 server to IIS Farm with appropriate ports(8080,8081,8082,8083). Also add Inbound rule for IIS Farm. The Tomcat instances listens these ports. When i'm opening url(which i set on inbound rule), i got the following exception: The virtual path 'null' maps to another application, which is not allowed.
