  • iPhone UISlider with two thumbs/indicators?

The UISlider API docs would imply this isn't possible with the standard control, so I was wondering if anyone had a solution for this (or had solved it themselves).

    I would like to implement an observer pattern in Objective-C where the observer implements an interface similar to SKPaymentTransactionObserver and the observable class just extends my base observable. My observable class looks something like what is below. Notice I'm making copies of the observers before enumeration to avoid throwing an exception . I've tried adding an NSLock around add observers and notify observers, but I run into a deadlock.   • UISearchBar and UINavigationController

    I have an .xib file connected to a ViewController, which is init'ed as the root controller of an instance of UINavigationController in my appDelegate. In that view, I have a UISearchBar and a UITableView below it. When the view loads up, there's a navigationBar at the top, followed by a ~20 pixel gap, and then the UISearchBar, and the table beneath it: My problem is that when I enter the UISearchBar to type something, the navigation bar disappears (which is fine), but the search box is all screwy: I'm pretty new to this (a couple of weeks), so I'm not quite sure what's going on. Can anyone help me shed some light on this?

  • Struggling with currency in Cocoa.

    I'm trying to do something I'd think would be fairly simple: Let a user input a dollar amount, store that amount in an NSNumber (NSDecimalNumber?), then display that amount formatted as currency again at some later time. My trouble is not so much with the setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle and displaying floats as currency. The trouble is more with how said numberFormatter works with this UITextField. I can find few examples. This thread from November and this one give me some ideas but leaves me with more questions. I am using the UIKeyboardTypeNumberPad keyboard and understand that I should probably show $0.00 (or whatever local currency format is) in the field upon display then as a user enters numerals to shift the decimal place along: Begin with display $0.00 Tap 2 key: display $0.02 Tap 5 key: display $0.25 Tap 4 key: display $2.54 Tap 3 key: display $25.43 Then [numberFormatter numberFromString:textField.text] should give me a value I can store in my NSNumber variable. Sadly I'm still struggling: Is this really the best/easiest way? If so then maybe someone can help me with the implementation? I feel UITextField may need a delegate responding to every keypress but not sure what, where and how to implement it?! Any sample code? I'd greatly appreciate it! I've searched high and low... Edit1: So I'm looking into NSFormatter's stringForObjectValue: and the closest thing I can find to what benzado recommends: UITextViewTextDidChangeNotification. Having really tough time finding sample code on either of them...so let me know if you know where to look?

I managed to get the scrolling the way I like, but one problem remains: how to let the UITextView and the UITableViewCell automatically grow in height when the user enters a new line of text? There has been written a lot about this, I know. But I couldn't find any solution. Can anybody help me or just give a hint? Thanks APC

    At some point in my Application, I have an NSArray whose contents change. Those contents are shown in a UITableView. I'm trying to find a way to find the diff between the contents of before and after of the NSArray so i can pass the correct indexPaths to insertRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation: and deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation: in order to have the changes nicely animated.   • Building a list of favorites from Core Data

    I'm building an app with two tabs. The first tab has a main tableview that connects to a detail view of the row. The second tab will display a tableView based on the user adding content to it by tapping a button on the detail view. My question is this. What is the correct design pattern to do this? Do I create a second ManagedObjectContext/ManagedObjectContextID then save that context to a new persistent store or can the MOC be saved to the existing store without affecting the original tableview? I've looked at CoreData Recipes and CoreData Books and neither deal with multiple stores although books does deal with multiple MOC's. Any reference would be great.

  • Speed Problem - Animating Height Change in UITableView

    So I have a huge UITableView, between 1000 and 3000 rows. Each row needs to, when selected, expand to include several buttons. I do this by rendering the buttons below the cell, enabling clipping on the cells, and then just animating a change in height when they're selected. So I have heightForRowAtIndex checking if the row is selected, if so it gives a different height value. To do the animation, I have the following: - (void) tableView: (UITableView *) tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath: (NSIndexPath *) indexPath { [self.tableView beginUpdates]; [self.tableView endUpdates]; } This all works wonderfully until I get around 1000 rows, at which point the animations still work and are still quite smooth, but they lag by a second or two. My first thought was a memory problem, but everything is being autoreleased and upon inspection my application isn't even receiving a memory warning message. So...any ideas on what this might be and how I can erase this lag between selection and change in cell height? Oh, and one last thing - right now I'm testing this on the iPad, so if this is a problem there, I expect it to be worse on our other target devices (iPhone and iPod).

  • Only first UIView added view addSubview shows correct orientation

    I've got three ViewControllers set up to handle three views. The problem that I'm having is that in the simulator the orientation is LandscapeRight (which is what I want), and the first view shows up correctly in that landscape view, but when I move onto the second and third views, they show up rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise with the upper-left corner of the view in the lower left corner of the phone's screen. I've been trying to debug this for a few days and the closest that I've gotten to a clue is tracing it the following way: The following is in my app delegate's applicationDidFinishLaunching: NSLog(@"1"); [window addSubview:welcomeController.view]; NSLog(@"2"); [window addSubview:goalController.view]; NSLog(@"3"); [window addSubview:planningController.view]; NSLog(@"4"); [window bringSubviewToFront:welcomeController.view]; NSLog(@"5"); Each of my ViewControllers implement something similar to the following (the only change being the controller's name switched out in the string passed to NSLog): - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations NSLog(@"called for WelcomeController"); return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight); } With that, I get the following output on the Console: a called for WelcomeController called for WelcomeController called for WelcomeController called for WelcomeController 2 called for GoalController 3 called for PlanningController 4 5 I find it interesting that shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is called 4 times for the first view that's added, while the other two only get called once. I expect that this is probably because it's got to do some setup at first (and I believe that the simulator starts off in portrait mode, so it's might be calling it while doing the rotation), but I find the correlation a bit suspicious. I've switched the order around so that the addSubview is called for the goalController first and the welcomeController second. In this case, it's the goalController which displays in the correct landscape orientation (it's normally the welcome controller). This would seem to eliminate my XIB files and the ViewControllers themselves. I'm not sure why the first view where addSubview is called is special. I also tried using insertSubview at index 0 with the same results.

Simple I have a UITableView with each cell containing a UITextField. When I´m editing a cell (UITextField) and hit Return Key, a new row is inserted under the current cell. After that I reloadData on the TableView, the new row is showed. Everything is OK here. Now to my problem, I want to [UITextField becomeFirstResponder] on the newest added row.   • How to set the tableview's top using contentinset property while being at the bottom of the table

    Hi all, I'm having a tableview with 20 rows and 250 as their rowheight. While I'm at the bottom of the tableview, I want to shift the tableview upwards by 65px. I tried doing self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-65.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); Also self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake((4633.0f - 65.0f), 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); where 4633.0f is my contentoffset.y, but with no success. When the last cell is pulled upwards, I'm showing a view below the last cell with an activity indicator on it to depict that more data is getting loaded. I need to keep that view visible for 2 seconds so I want to push the tableview cells up and after that I want to bring the tableview to its original position and reset the view below that.   • Sanity check: UIBarButtonItem crashes trying to perform action

    One of my users is reporting a crash on his device, an iPhone 3GS. Other devices of the same type are not reporting similar behavior.   • UIBarButtonItem: target-action not working?

OK, so the view renders fine, but when I tap it, it doesn't call the method that I set as the UIBarButtonItem's action property. Oh, and I have verified that my -deselectAll method works fine.   • Design patter to keep track UITableView rows correspondance to underlying data in constant time.

    When my model changes I want to animate changes in UITableView by inserting/deleting rows. For that I need to know the ordinal of the given row (so I can construct NSIndexPath), which I find hard to do in better-than-linear time. For example, consider that I have a list of addressbook entries which are manualy sorted by the user, i.e. there is no ordering "key" that represents the sort order. There is also a corresponding UITableView that shows one row per addressbook entry. When UITableView queries the datasource I query the NSMUtableArray populated with my entries and return required data in constant time for each row. However, if there is a change in underlying model I am getting a notification "Joe Smith, id#123 has been removed". Now I have a dilemma. A naive approach would be to scan the array, determine the index at which Joe Smith is and then ask UITableView to remove that precise row from the view, also removing it form the array. However, the scan will take linear time to finish. Now I could have an NSDictionary which allows me to find Joe Smith in constant time, but that doesn't do me a lot of good because I still need to find his ordinal index within the array in order to instruct UITableView to remove that row, which is again a linear search. I could further decide to store each object's ordinal inside the object itself to make it constant, but it will become outdated after first such update as all subsequent index values will have changed due to removal of an object. So what is the correct design pattern to accurately reflect model changes in the UITableView in costant (or at least logarithmic) time?

  • UIAlertViewDelegate method didDismissWithButtonIndex gets called while the phone is sleeping/locked.

    I have a UIAlertView who's didDismissWithButtonIndex delegate method calls pops the view controller (same class, it's the alertview delegate and the viewcontroller) to return the user to the previous screen. The issue is that when you lock the phone before the [alert show]; is called, something is calling didDismissWithButtonIndex while the phone is locked. Since the response to that is to pop the view controller, which releases and deallocs it, I crash on the callback. What is causing this phantom button press? Seems like a framework bug, but I hate jumping to that conclusion. I'm definitely not hitting the button, because I hit a breakpoint in my code right before it's displayed. Then I lock the phone. Then I continue. I see it do the show, return to the event loop, and then, while the phone is still locked, hit my breakpoint in didDismissWithButtonIndex. There are a few internet/forum postings about similar spurious delegate calls, but no concrete answers. This is on the simulator, and the device, both OS 2.2 and OS 3.0. I'm assuming I'm missing something, but what? Update: Yeah, I created a simple project with just two view controllers, where when the 2nd view controller displays it creates the alert, and shows it. Then I NSLog in the delegate method, and when the phone is locked, it fires once while locked, and then again when it's unlocked and the button is clicked...2 log messages. But when not locked, there's only one. I guess I'll open an issue, but it seems awfully obvious to have survived this long without anyone complaining. :-) I'm going to try and work around it by making an isActive flag value when the willResignActive/didBecomeActive notifications arrive, and if the app isn't active skipping the delegate body. Update I went ahead in July after I posted this and created radar 7097363 for this issue. There's been no response. The workaround in practice works quite well, checking the active status when processing the delegate, and skipping the action if the the app is inactive.
