  • How to append to an array that contains blank spaces - Java

    I'm trying to append to a char[] array that contains blank spaces on the end. The char array for example contains the characters 'aaa'. When I append the first time the method functions properly and outputs 'aaabbb'. The initial capacity of the array is set to 80 or multiples of 80. The second time I try and append my output looks like"aaabbb bbb". Any psuedocode would be great.

    How can I convert a given object (in a generic way with reflection) to pretty printable HTML? What ready made library do you recommend that does this? I need support for simple nested objects (as long as they don't create loops in the object graph). I tried to convert it to JSON, but DefaultPrettyPrinter is not HTML friendly.

  • Exception and Inheritance in JAVA

    Suppose we have this problem public class Father{ public void method1(){...} } public class Child1 extends Father{ public void method1() throws Exception{ super.method1(); ... } } Child1 extends Father and override method1 but given implementation Child1.method1 now throws a exception, this wont compile as override method can't throw new exceptions. What is the best solution? Propagate the required exception to the Father.. to me this is against encapsulation, inheritance and general OOP ( the father potentially throw and exception that will never happen ) Use a RuntimeException instead? This solution wont propagate the Exception to the father but I read In Oracle docs and others sources states class of exceptions should be used when "Client code cannot do anything" this is not that case, this exception will b useful to recover blablabla ( why is wrong to use RuntimeException instead? ) Other.. thanks, Federico

    Ran into some questionable behavior using lists of parameterized Class objects: ArrayList<Class<String>> classList = new ArrayList<Class<String>>(); classList.add(Integer.class); //compile error Class intClass = Integer.class; classList.add(intClass); //legal apparently, as long as intClass is not parameterized Found the same behavior for LinkedList, haven't tried other collections. Is it like this for a reason? Or have I stumbled on something?

  • Setting the type of a field in a superclass from a subclass (Java)

    Hi. I am writing a project on Google App Engine, within it I have a number of abstract classes that I hope I will be able to use in my future projects, and a number of concrete classes inheriting from them. Among other abstract classes I have an abstract servlet that does user management, and I hava an abstract user. The AbstractUser has all the necessary fields and methods for storing it in the datastore and telling whether the user is registered with my service or not. It does not implement any project specific functionality. The abstract servlet that manages users, refers only to the methods declared in the AbstractUser class, which allows it to generate links for logging in, logging out and registering (for unregistered users). In order to implement the project-specific user functionality I need to subclass the Abstract user. The servlets I use in my project are all indirect descendants from that abstract user management servlet, and the user is a protected field in it, so the descendant servlets can use it as their own field. However, whenever i want to access any project specific method of the concrete user, i need to cast it to that type. i.e. (abstract user managing servlet) ... AbstractUser user = getUser(); ... abstract protected AbstractUser getUser(); (project-specific abstract servlet) @Override protected AbstractUser getUser() { return MyUserFactory.getUser(); } any other project specific servlet: int a = ((ConcreteUser) user).getA(); Well, what i'd like to do is to somehow make the type of “user” in the superclass depend on something in the project-specific abstract class. Is it at all possible? And i don't want to move all the user-management stuff into a project-specific layer, for i would like to have it for my future projects already written :) Thank you for your help.

    When I run the following program: public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception { byte str[] = {(byte)0xEC, (byte)0x96, (byte)0xB4}; String s = new String(str, "UTF-8"); } on Linux and inspect the value of s in jdb, I correctly get: s = "ì–´" on Windows, I incorrectly get: s = "?" My byte sequence is a valid UTF-8 character in Korean, why would it be producing two very different results?

But I also want to easily extends this frame work without changing the template.     I would like to do RPC to a list of clients with the following requirements: the server does not know the clients (implies a kind of broker?) and the cleints do not know the server there may be several clients - they share the load to treat the RPC The RPC is asynchronous very fast (round-trip < 1ms) optional : offers a fail-over mechanism. It can be done with underlying tools which are not really intended for that (Hazelcast is an example). What would you use for such requirements? Thanks!

    I am wanting to create a gihub repository that offers benchmarking code that works for concurrent features available only in JDK 1.7 (Fork/Join) as well as for older ones found in JDK 1.6. Offering both options is important for what I need. Does anyone have a recommendation how should I structure the repository. I was planning on having a repo called and under it: jdk17 build src mycode ... jdk16 build src mycode Please suggest any alternatives, possibly use of Maven or other more practical approaches, if any.

    Hi again, I have the following tag included in my HTML which causes the JEditorPane not to show the HTML output. <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> Not so much a big deal but anyone know why this would happen? Cannot find too much documentation on this - best I came up with was someone having a go a few years ago to see what was supported on retro virus site. At the minute I'm doing a simple find replace on the string which is not good - are there any better ways? I've seen a lot of people saying that RegEx is no good.     I have a application in which I am using socket programming , having this(image) scenario. Where number of clients will try to connect Broadcast server. Now here I am managing load through LVS(Load balancer). so as a example shown in image, suppose 200 clients will wish to login for broadcast they will be distributed as 100 users on server 1 and another 100 users on server 2.clients will get connected to servers using TCP connection. Now I am maintaining user information on server side in arraylist which will be stored in heap memory,Now the problem is if client wish to broadcast to all logged in users, but that particular client is logged in server 1. and so client will not be able to broadcast another 100 users from server 2. Because both ther servers are unaware about each others state. please suggest to solve this scenario by whatever means you want.
