  • Connecting To SQL Database In C#

    - by Soo
Hey everyone, I'm pretty familiar with SQL syntax (via MySQL) and am just getting my feet wet with C# and SQL server. I currently have a .sdf database on my C:\ drive and want to connect to it in C#. I added the database as a data source and now need help figuring out how to get data from the database in my C# application. I just want to be able to set an object to the data in my SQL database so I can manipulate it using C#. Thanks in advance for replies.

  • Microsoft Mdac with SQL Server issue

    - by George2
Hello everyone, I am new to Microsoft Mdac = http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/91083/mdac-2-8-for-windows-x64, and I want to use this technology to export data from a SQL Server table (or ADO.Net DataTable object instance) to an Excel file. I am using VSTS 2008 + .Net 2.0 + C# + Windows Server 2008 x64 + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit + ADO.Net + ASP.Net + IIS 7.0. My questions, whether Mdac technology could achieve my goal? any tutorial about this area (export from SQL Server to excel using Mdac) for a newbie with samples? thanks in advance, George

  • SQL Server 2008 - Script Data as Insert Statements from SSIS Package

    - by Brandon King
SQL Server 2008 provides the ability to script data as Insert statements using the Generate Scripts option in Management Studio. Is it possible to access the same functionality from within a SSIS package? Here's what I'm trying to accomplish... I have a scheduled job that nightly scripts out all the schema and data for a SQL Server 2008 database and then uses the script to create a "mirror copy" SQLCE 3.5 database. I've been using Narayana Vyas Kondreddi's sp_generate_inserts stored procedure to accomplish this, but it has problems with some datatypes and greater-than-4K columns (holdovers from SQL Server 2000 days). The Script Data function looks like it could solve my problems, if only I could automate it. Any suggestions?

  • What is the Reason large sites don't use MySQL with ASP.NET?

    - by Luke101
I have read this article from highscalability about stackoverflow and other large websites. Many large high traffic .NET sites such as plentyoffish.com, mysapce and SO all use .NET technologies and use SQL SERver for their database. In the article it says SO said As you add more and more database servers the SQL Server license costs can be outrageous. So by starting scale up and gradually going scale out with non-open source software you can be in a world of financial hurt. I don't understand why don't high traffic .NET sites convert their databases to MySQL as it is waay cheaper then SQL Server

  • What SQL is being sent from a SqlCommand object

    - by Justin808
I have a SqlCommand object on my c# based asp.net page. The SQL and the passed parameters are working the majority of the time. I have one case that is not working, I get the following error: String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated. I understand the error and but all the columns in the database should be long enough to hold everything being sent. My questions, Is there a way to see what the actual SQL being sent to the database is from SqlCommand object? I would like to be able to email the SQL when an error occurs. Thanks, Justin

  • OJB / Oracle XE sql debug-display problem

    - by Jay
Hello, I have a Java application, and use OJB as my ORM technology. I have an Oracle XE installation locally to develop against. The problem is when I need to debug a problem, I like looking at the SQL output. Here is an example of SQL I can view through the "Top SQL" interface in Oracle XE: select a_bunch_of_fields from KREW_DOC_TYP_T A0 WHERE ((UPPER(A0.DOC_TYP_NM) LIKE :1) AND A0.ACTV_IND = :2) AND A0.CUR_IND = :3 The problem is I would like to see the real value instead of ":1". I can't seem to find how I can configure this. I know the real values are working, because the application is responding as expected, for the most part (hence the bugs I am working on). Thanks, Jay

  • SQL Encryption - Asymmetric Key - 2nd Server

    - by Jason Heine
Hello, I created an asymmetric key on one of my SQL servers (2008). I encrypted a password field and I am able to retrieve that password just fine on my development server. The issue comes into play where I need to move this data to a production server. Here is the code for the key that was created: CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD='#########' CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY UserEncryptionKey WITH ALGORITHM = RSA_2048 Now, when I run this on the production server, it creates the key just fine. However, when I run my sproc to get the password, it returns NULL. SQL: SELECT EncryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('UserEncryptionKey'), Password ) FROM Users WHERE UserName = '######' Any thoughts on what I need to do to get the encrypted field to work on multiple SQL Servers? Please let me know if I need to clarify something. Thanks

  • NHibernate How to specify custom sql type only in production

    - by Davide Orazio Montersino
    I am saving binary files into a Sql Server 2005 Db using Fluent NHibernate. However, I am using SQLite to run my (pseudo) Unit Tests. I need to use a custom Sql type for Ms Sql, but it would throw an error on SqlLite. What strategies can I use? This is the Map file: public class BinaryFile { public BinaryFile() { m.Map(x => x.BinaryData);//.CustomSqlType("varbinary(MAX)"); m.Map(x => x.ContentType); m.Map(x => x.FileName); m.Map(x => x.FileSize); } }

  • Best way to get record counts grouped by month, adjusted for time zone, using SQL or LINQ to SQL

    - by Jeff Putz
I'm looking for the most efficient way to suck out a series of monthly counts of records in my database, but adjusting for time zone, since the times are actually stored as UTC. I would like my result set to be a series of objects that include month, year and count. I have LINQ to SQL objects that looks something like this: public class MyRecord { public int ID { get; set; } public DateTime TimeStamp { get; set; } public string Data { get; set; } } I'm not opposed to using straight SQL, but LINQ to SQL would at least keep the code a lot more clean. The time zone adjustment is available as an integer (-5, for example). Again, the result set what I'm looking for is objects containing the month, year and count, all integers. Any suggestions? I can think of several ways to do it straight, but not with a time zone adjustment.

  • How to insert arabic characters into sql database?

    - by Pavan Reddy
How can I insert arabic characters into sql database? I tried to insert arabic data into a table and the arabic characters in the insert script were inserted as '??????' in the table. I tried to directly paste the data into the table through sql management studio and the arabic characters was successfully and accurately inserted. I looked around for resolutions for this problems and some threads suggested changing the datatype to nvarchar instead of varchar. I tried this as well but without any luck. How can we insert arabic characters into sql database?

  • Possible Performance Considerations using Linq to SQL Repositories

    - by Robert Harvey
I have an ASP.NET MVC application that uses Linq to SQL repositories for all interactions with the database. To deal with data security, I do trimming to filter data to only those items to which the user has access. This occurs in several places: Data in list views Links in a menu bar A treeview on the left hand side containing links to content Role-based security A special security attribute, inheriting from AuthorizeAttribute, that implements content-based authorization on every controller method. Each of these places instantiates a repository, which opens a Linq to Sql DataContext and accesses the database. So, by my count, each request for a page access opens at least six separate Linq to SQL DataContexts. Should I be concerned about this from a performance perspective, and if so, what can be done to mitigate it?

  • T-SQL to PL/SQL (IDENTITY)

    - by folone
    I've got a T-SQL script, that converts field to IDENTITY (in a weird way). How do I convert it to PL/SQL? (and, probably, figure out, if there is a simpler way to do this - without creating a temporary table). The T-SQL script: -- alter table ts_changes add TS_THREADID VARCHAR(100) NULL; -- Change Field TS_ID TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS to IDENTITY BEGIN TRANSACTION GO CREATE TABLE dbo.Tmp_TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS ( TS_ID int NOT NULL IDENTITY (1, 1), TS_TABLEID int NOT NULL, TS_CASEID int NULL, TS_WORKFLOWID int NULL, TS_NOTIFICATIONID int NULL, TS_PRIORITY int NULL, TS_STARTDATE int NULL, TS_TIME int NULL, TS_WAITSTATUS int NULL, TS_RECIPIENTID int NULL, TS_LASTCHANGEDATE int NULL, TS_ELAPSEDCYCLES int NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS ON GO IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM dbo.TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS) EXEC('INSERT INTO dbo.Tmp_TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS (TS_ID, TS_TABLEID, TS_CASEID, TS_WORKFLOWID, TS_NOTIFICATIONID, TS_PRIORITY, TS_STARTDATE, TS_TIME, TS_WAITSTATUS, TS_RECIPIENTID, TS_LASTCHANGEDATE, TS_ELAPSEDCYCLES) SELECT TS_ID, TS_TABLEID, TS_CASEID, TS_WORKFLOWID, TS_NOTIFICATIONID, TS_PRIORITY, TS_STARTDATE, TS_TIME, TS_WAITSTATUS, TS_RECIPIENTID, TS_LASTCHANGEDATE, TS_ELAPSEDCYCLES FROM dbo.TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS WITH (HOLDLOCK TABLOCKX)') GO SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS OFF GO DROP TABLE dbo.TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS GO EXECUTE sp_rename N'dbo.Tmp_TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS', N'TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS', 'OBJECT' GO ALTER TABLE dbo.TS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS ADD CONSTRAINT aaaaaTS_NOTIFICATIONEVENTS_PK PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED ( TS_ID ) WITH( STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] GO COMMIT

  • linq to sql string property from non-null column with default

    - by Barry Fandango
I have a LINQ to SQL class "VoucherRecord" based on a simple table. One property "Note" is a string that represents an nvarchar(255) column, which is non-nullable and has a default value of empty string (''). If I instantiate a VoucherRecord the initial value of the Note property is null. If I add it using a DataContext's InsertOnSubmit method, I get a SQL error message: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Note', table 'foo.bar.tblVoucher'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. Why isn't the database default kicking in? What sort of query could bypass the default anyway? How do I view the generated sql for this action? Thanks for your help!

  • Script SQL Server login with Windows authentication without machine name

    - by Evgeny
I want to write a SQL 2005 script to create a new login that uses Windows authentication. The Windows user is a local account (not a domain one). A local account with the same name exists on many SQL Server machines and I want to run the same script on all of them. It seemed simple enough: CREATE LOGIN [MyUser] FROM WINDOWS However, that doesn't work! SQL returns an error, saying Give the complete name: <domain\username>. Of course, I can do that for one machine and it works, but the same script will not work on other machines.

  • SQL Server Express 2008 Stored Procedure execution time spikes periodically

    - by user156241
I have a big stored procedure on a SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 database that gets run about every 200 ms. Normal execution time is about 50ms. What I am seeing is large inconsistencies in this run time. It will execute for while, say 50-100 times at 40-60ms which is expected, then seemingly at random the same stored procedure will take way longer, say 900ms or 1.5 seconds to run. Sometimes more than one call of the same procedure in a row will take longer too. It appears that something is causing sql server to slow down dramatically every minute or so, but I can't figure out what. There is no timing pattern between the occurences. I have the same setup on two different computers, one of which is a clean XP Pro load with no virus checking and nothing installed except SQL server. Also, The recovery options for all the databases are set to "Simple".

  • Eliminate subquery for average numeric value

    - by Dave Jarvis
Quest A query selects locations that begin with Vancouver, which are in a 5 minute radius from one another. SQL Code The following SQL abomination does the trick: SELECT NAME FROM STATION WHERE DISTRICT_ID = '110' AND NAME LIKE 'Vancouver%' AND LATITUDE BETWEEN (SELECT round((min(LATITUDE) + max(LATITUDE)) / 2)-5 FROM STATION WHERE DISTRICT_ID = '110' AND NAME LIKE 'Vancouver%') and (SELECT round((min(LATITUDE) + max(LATITUDE)) / 2)+5 FROM STATION WHERE DISTRICT_ID = '110' AND NAME LIKE 'Vancouver%') AND LONGITUDE BETWEEN (SELECT round((min(LONGITUDE) + max(LONGITUDE)) / 2)-5 FROM STATION WHERE DISTRICT_ID = '110' AND NAME LIKE 'Vancouver%') and (SELECT round((min(LONGITUDE) + max(LONGITUDE)) / 2)+5 FROM STATION WHERE DISTRICT_ID = '110' AND NAME LIKE 'Vancouver%') ORDER BY LATITUDE Question How can this query be simplified to remove the redundancy, without using a view? Restrictions The database is MySQL, but ANSI SQL is always nice. Thank you!

  • How to store and compare time-zone sensitive times

    - by Chad Moran
I have a data structure where an entity has times stored as an int (minutes into the day) for fast comparison. The entity also has a Foreign Key reference back to a TimeZone table which contains the .NET CLR ID Name and it's Standard Time/Daylight Time acronyms. Since this information is stored as time-zone insensitive - I was wondering how in LINQ to SQL I could convert this into a UTC DateTime for comparison against other times that will be in UTC. Just to be clear this conversion has to be done server-side so that I can execute filtering on the SQL Server and not the client. I am using .NET 3.5 SP1 and SQL Server 2008.

  • Constrain a table to have only one row

    - by finnw
What's the cleanest way to constrain a SQL table to allow it to have no more than one row? This related question discusses why such a table might exist, but not how the constraint should be implemented. So far I have only found hacks involving a unique key column that is constrained to have a specific value, e.g. ALWAYS_0 TINYINT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT (0) CONSTRAINT CHECK_ALWAYS_0 CHECK (ALWAYS_0 = 0). I am guessing there is probably a cleaner way to do it. The ideal solution would be portable SQL, but a solution specific to MS SQL Server or postgres would also be useful
