• Installing JavaFX 2.0 in Eclipse Juno for Mac

  I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) right now, so I'm pretty sure that there could be some issues with supported systems, but I'm trying to install JavaFX 2.0 (or 2.1.x) in Eclipse Juno for Java EE (version 3.8). I have already installed the e(fx)clipse plugin, but I'm not sure if I'm downloading the right JavaFX .zip file from the Oracle website. I downloaded the JavaFX 2.2 beta release because it seemed to be the only release available for OS X, but I could be wrong. Once I download this archive, I'm not exactly what to do with it/where to place it so that Eclipse recognizes it as the JavaFX 2.2 SDK. I know that I have to go into preferences and set the location of the SDK file, but there doesn't seem to be any selectable .jar file or folder to set it to. Am I doing something wrong here? Any help is appreciated. Edit: I worked around the issue by setting the SDK location to the location of the downloaded JavaFX 2.2 SDK in the JavaFX section in the preferences tree.

• ListView adapter data change without ListView being notified

  I've written a ListActivity that has a custom list adapter. The list is being updated from a ContentProvider when onCreate is run. I also have a service that gets started when I run the app and it first updates the ContentProvider, then sends a Broadcast that the content has been updated. My ListActivity recieves the broadcast and tries to update my ListView. My problem is, I'm getting intermittent errors about the ListView adapter data changing without the ListView being notified. I call the notifyDataSetChanged() method on my list adapter right after I update it. What it seems like is happening is the list is still in the process of being updated after first call in onCreate when it recieves the broadcast from the service to update, so it tries to update my ListView before it's finished updating from it's first run. Does this make sense? Here is some of my code.   I love Eclipse but I HATE auto-completion with a vengeance! I swear though, no matter how hard I look in prefs or Google I can't find where I turn this off! I'm having the problem with both CFEclipse and the PHP editor. How do I completely disable all "smart" quotes/tags/braces auto-inserting. Not some of it.. ALL of it. No matter how many options I untick both editors keep trying to finish my code for me.. usually with irritating results. Like this one (PHP editor): <img alt="banner" src="/images/banner.jpg"></img> This is HTML, not XHTML - I don't want, or need, my img tags closed. Anyway this is still happening after I've gone to Preferences | PHP | Editor | Typing and Preferences | PHP | Editor | Code Assist and unchecked every option. I can't be the only one having this issue but I can't find any howtos or help on this.

• Accessing objects on one nib file from another nib file

  I have two nib files - Main.nib and Preference.nib In Main.nib file I have an instance of NSView class.Its window has a NSPopUpButton which on clicking shows a menu .In the menu I have show Preferences menu item. Menu item on clicking shows a preferences panel containing a color well item. On clicking color well a color panel is displayed to choose the color. The problem is how to apply that color to main application window. My preference panel window is in Preference.nib file. So problem is accessing NSView from another Nib Window. Is there a way so that I can make connection between preference panel and my main application window(NSView)

• Axis error about runtime location

  The error is: Exception occurred while reading or writing file {0}The Axis2 facets cannot be installed since the Axis2 runtime location has not been set. Go to the Web Services preference page and set the Axis2 runtime location under Axis2 Preferences. In the preferences mentioned, the location is set correctly and in fact, it says "Axis2 runtime loaded successfully" after loadign the correct runtime location. So what's going on? Any solutions other than re-installing eclipse or creating a new workspace? I am using Axis2 1.4.1 and eclipse.

  Hi All, I want to enable Access for assistive devices in System Preferences programmatically. But Problem is that my application is not running as root user and i do not want my application to be as root user and also should not ask for any authentication in between. I want to tap all keyboard events globally. I am using CGEventTapCreate() for the same.In the documentation of CGEventTapCreate() API it is mentioned that, Event taps receive key up and key down events if one of the following conditions is true: The current process is running as the root user. Access for assistive devices is enabled. In Mac OS X v10.4 & later, you can enable this feature using System Preferences, Universal Access panel, Keyboard view. I tried manually by checking the Enable Access for assistive devices from System Preference and it gives me expected output. So is there any way to do the same via program without asking for authentication and also application is not running as root user? Thanks, Dheeraj.

• Why is .NET faster than C++ in this case?

  -edit- I LOVE SLaks comment. "The amount of misinformation in these answers is staggering." :D Calm down guys. Pretty much all of you were wrong. I DID make optimizations. It turns out whatever optimizations I made wasn't good enough. I ran the code in GCC using gettimeofday (I'll paste code below) and used g++ -O2 file.cpp and got slightly faster results then C#. Maybe MS didn't create the optimizations needed in this specific case but after downloading and installing mingw I was tested and found the speed to be near identical. Justicle Seems to be right. I could have sworn I use clock on my PC and used that to count and found it was slower but problem solved. C++ speed isn't almost twice as slower in the MS compiler. When my friend informed me of this I couldn't believe it. So I took his code and put some timers onto it. Instead of Boo I used C#. I constantly got faster results in C#. Why? The .NET version was nearly half the time no matter what number I used.   I'm making an open source C# library for other developers to use. My key concern is ease of use. This means using intuitive names, intuitive method usage and such. This is the first time I've done something with other people in mind, so I'm really concerned about the quality of the architecture.   Hello there, i've a PreferenceActivity which works perfectly the first time i launch it. But if i close it ( with the back button ) and then i re open it ( through a menu click in the main activity ) then i get a black screen. There is no preferences at all.. I can't figure it out why it should not working. It seems all the code is being called normally as the working one but no preferences are showing on the screen. Did someone had the same behaviour ?

  Hey there. I have a c# application that parses txt files and imports the data from them into a sql db. I was using sqlite and am now working on porting it to sql server. It was working fine with sqlite but now with sql i am getting an error when it is processing the files. It added the first row of data to the db and then says "parameter @PartNumber has already been declared. Variable names must be unique within a batch or stored procedure".   Is there any way to set/update values in the settings.bundle from within your app. I am fine reading in values from the preferences into NSUserDefaults but was wondering whether you can set values from within the app. I have a web-app which I am making a iPhone client for and was thinking to include the users account details in the settings.bundle. This is fine if the user only updates the values through the Apple Application Preferences screens, but what if the user updated those values in the web app. I wanted to pull down the values from the web and then "update" the values in the settings.bundle from within the App. I am guessing that this is not possible and that maybe I need to create my own "in-app" settings screen? But thought I would check with you all first ...

• xCode screensaver with openGL

  Hi, I am currently simply trying to build a simple screen saver in xcode 3.2 on osx 10.6.3 using an openGL view as described in this article: http://cocoadevcentral.com/articles/000089.php anyways even if I use the exact same code from the example all I see when testing the screen saver is a black screen. I looked in OSX Console if it tells me anything useful. the only thing I get is something like this: [0x0-0x1e01e].com.apple.systempreferences[629] System Preferences(629,0x7fff71071be0) malloc: reference count underflow for 0x20057be80, break on auto_refcount_underflow_error to debug. System Preferences[629] invalid context I have no idea what is wrong, so I would be glad if someone could tell me how to use openGL together with the screensaver template in xCode 3.2. Also, is there a way to make another target so I can preview the screensaver from within xCode? Thanks!

  I currently have my web.xml configured to catch 404s and send them to my spring controller which will perform a search given the original URL request. The problem lies in resolving the view's path to the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Using a logger in my JBoss setup, I can see that when I test this search controller by going to a non-existent page, the following occurs: Server can't find the request Request is sent to 404 error page (in this case my search controller) Search controller performs search Search controller returns view name (for this illustration, we'll assume test.jsp is returned) Based off of server logger, I can see that org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView is initialized once my search controller returns the view name (so I can assume it is being picked up correctly by the InternalResourceViewResolver) Server attempts to return content to browser resulting in a 404! A couple things confuse me about this: I'm not 100% sure why this isn't resolving when test.jsp clearly exists under the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Even if there was some other problem, why would this result in a 404? Shouldn't a 404 error page that results in another 404 theoretically create an infinite loop? Thanks for any help or pointers! • Mac OS X Services: enable without user interaction?

  I wrote a simple Mac 'Service' for Finder, that executes a command. Basically: this adds a ContextMenu in Finder. If I right-click a file in Finder, a menu item pops up. If the user clicks it, it executes my script. (kind of like 'Send to Bluetooth device, ...') In OS X Leopard (10.5) and earlier, all services are enabled. In 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Apple changed the behavior, services now have preferences, and can be enabled or disabled by the user. (which is a good thing) However, I wrote the service, but there seems to be no way to enable it automatically (in our installer). I tried doing it with Applescript, going to the System Preferences and ticking the checkbox that way, but it requires some accessibility features to be turned on. (off by default). Is it possible? If so, how? Or do I need something else to provide Context Menus in Finder.
