• CSS H4 hover style

  I tried many css from other places and stackoverflow, but somehow I can not make it done. I'm very new to css, and using Joomla and a template. I'm using custom.css folder for certain customizations on style. Here is I want to do: I want to style h4 when it is a link. For example, I'm creating a custom html module, have a list in the content. And in the content I'm giving each, h5 style, and a link to it to a certain page in the site. What I want to achieve is to have this list with color blue. And when mouse over-hover to have underline and still the same color. And when clicked back to the original position with no underline and no color change. (the same color in every situation, just underline when you are over it.) I tried these h5, h5 a, h5 a: hover, h5 .contentheading a, and so on... In one instance, it was working with : h5 { font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; font-weight: bold; } h5 a { color: #0088CC; } h5 a: hover { color: #0088CC; text-decoration: underline; } As I read I should use 'a' when the heading is a link. But now something is overriding it, I'm completely lost now. I see a:hover style in the inspection. I want to use this h5 in several content (in custom modules) when I want to style a content as a list to links. And I thought it will be practical to have one heading with a certain style so that I can use it with flexibility. Thanks a lot, any help will be great : )

• Architecture of finding movable geotagged objects

  I currently have a Postgres DB filled with approx. 300.000 data-sets of moving vehicles all over the world. My very frequently repeated query is: Give me all vehicles in a 5/10/20mile radius. Currently I spend around 600 to 1200 ms in the DB to prepare the set of located vehicle-objects. I am looking to vastly improve this time by ideally one or two orders of magnitude if possible. I am working in a Ruby on Rails 3.0beta environment if this is relevant. Any ideas how to architect the whole system to accelerate this query? Any NoSQL database able to deliver this kind of geolocation performance? I know of MongoDB working on an extension to facilitate this scenario but haven't tried it yet. Any intelligent use of Redis to achieve this? One problem with SQL-DBs here seems to be that I can't possibly use indexes because my vehicles are mostly moving around, meaning I had to constantly created DB indexes which, by itself, is probably more expensive than just doing the searching without index. • encrypting passwords in a python conf file on a windows platform

  Hello all. I have a script running on a remote machine. db info is stored in a configuration file. I want to be able to encrypt the password in the conf text so that no one can just read the file and gain access to the database. This is my current set up: My conf file sensitive info is encoded with base64 module. The main script then decodes the info. I have compiled the script using py2exe to make it a bit harder to see the code. My question is: Is there a better way of doing this? I know that base64 is not a very safe way of encrypting. Is there a way to encode using a key? I also know that py2exe can be reversed engineered very easily and the key could be found. Any other thoughts? I am also running this script on a windows machine, so any modules that are suggested should be able to run in a windows environment with ease. I know there are several other posts on this topic but I have not found one with a windows solution, or at least one that is will explained.

• Silverstripe: outputting DataObjectManager in template include

  I have followed the tutorial here http://doc.silverstripe.org/old/modules:dataobjectmanager to create a dataobjectmanager in my CMS. It's all working perfectly there however I am having an issue getting it to output in the template. • style ul with width to accommodate items

  Sorry I could not find a similar answer on SO. I have the following markup (generated by jquery ui autocomplete but this is not the issue here) <ul style="z-index: 1; display: block; border: thin solid red; width: 200px;"> <li> <a> <div style="font-size: 0.85em;"> <span style="float: right; padding-left: 10px; color: gray;"> United Kingdom </span> <span style="">text text text text text</span> </div> </a> </li> </ul> As you can see in this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/fVr8P/2/ the text wraps because the width is limited and the country span is "floating". What I would like would be for the width to enlarge to accommodate the full length, but if I put width: auto; it will expand to 100%. Background The ul is of course coming from jquery ui autocomplete. I am styling the results a bit using the autocomplete.html extension. Problem is that everything is working ok in firefox an chrome because the autocomplete is set to the correct width on creation. in IE this does not happen (width is too small) so the text wraps. I am hping to come to a simple css only solution, without fiddling around in jQuery.

Is there any way to overcome this problem?

• Which Java debugger do *you* use.

  I spend a lot of time debugging applications in Eclipse using JPDA. There are a few issues with the Eclipse debugger which really annoy me. Can anybody recommend plug-ins, better debuggers or perhaps tricks that I don't know of yet? In the "Variables" tab, you can type in and execute bits of Java code. However, you first need to click on something (I usually click on "this") to give it some context. Then, after you've typed in a lengthy Java expression to debug something and "execute" it, your expression gets replaced with the result, so you need to type it in all over again. Is there some better way, such as a console or something that I'm missing? When you're poking through data structures, the presentation in the debugger leaves much to be desired. You see the internal representation of Lists, Maps, StringBuilders etc. What I want to see is what these objects conceptually contain. Is there a way of doing this, perhaps using some other debugger, or an extension or something? When an Exception is thrown, is there some way of inspecting the state of the application where the Exception was thrown? Currently I need to set breakpoints just before the Exception occurs and then try to reproduce it. When I'm stepping over a line with many statements on it, I can't actually see which of those statements is being executed, except by "stepping in" to each one to see where it takes me. If no source code is found, Eclipse just stares blankly at you. You get a helpful screen saying "Class File Editor / Source code not found" which is completely useless. I'd much prefer to be able to step through the bytecodes so I can at least see what is going on. Does anybody know of a Java debugger that does this better than Eclipse?

• The most efficient way to calculate an integral in a dataset range

  I have an array of 10 rows by 20 columns. Each columns corresponds to a data set that cannot be fitted with any sort of continuous mathematical function (it's a series of numbers derived experimentally). I would like to calculate the integral of each column between row 4 and row 8, then store the obtained result in a new array (20 rows x 1 column). I have tried using different scipy.integrate modules (e.g. quad, trpz,...). The problem is that, from what I understand, scipy.integrate must be applied to functions, and I am not sure how to convert each column of my initial array into a function. As an alternative, I thought of calculating the average of each column between row 4 and row 8, then multiply this number by 4 (i.e. 8-4=4, the x-interval) and then store this into my final 20x1 array. The problem is...ehm...that I don't know how to calculate the average over a given range. The question I am asking are: Which method is more efficient/straightforward? Can integrals be calculated over a data set like the one that I have described? How do I calculate the average over a range of rows?

• EF 4 Query - Issue with Multiple Parameters

  Hello, A trick to avoiding filtering by nullable parameters in SQL was something like the following: select * from customers where (@CustomerName is null or CustomerName = @CustomerName) This worked well for me in LINQ to SQL: string customerName = "XYZ"; var results = (from c in ctx.Customers where (customerName == null || (customerName != null && c.CustomerName == customerName)) select c); But that above query, when in ADO.NET EF, doesn't work for me; it should filter by customer name because it exists, but it doesn't. Instead, it's querying all the customer records. Now, this is a simplified example, because I have many fields that I'm utilizing this kind of logic with. But it never actually filters, queries all the records, and causes a timeout exception. But the wierd thing is another query does something similarly, with no issues. Any ideas why? Seems like a bug to me, or is there a workaround for this? I've since switched to extension methods which works. Thanks.

• Action on each method's return value

  What I'd like to do is take some action using the value returned by every method in a class. So for instance, if I have a class Order which has a method public Customer GetCustomer() { Customer CustomerInstance = // get customer return CustomerInstance; } Let's say I want to log the creation of these - Log(CustomerInstance); My options (AFAIK) are: Call Log() in each of these methods before returning the object. I'm not a fan of this because it gets unwieldy if used on a lot of classes with a lot of methods. It also is not an intrinsic part of the method's purpose. Use composition or inheritance to layer the log callon the Order class similar to: public Customer GetCustomer() { Customer CustomerInstance = this.originalCustomer.GetCustomer(); Log(CustomerInstance); return CustomerInstance; } I don't think this buys me anything over #1. Create extension methods on each of the returned types: Customer CustomerInstance = Order.GetCustomer().Log(); which has just as many downsides. I'm looking to do this for every (or almost every) object returned, automatically if possible, without having to write double the amount of code. I feel like I'm either trying to bend the language into doing something it's not supposed to, or failing to recognize some language feature that would enable this. Possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

• Google Anlytics event not firing

  I am not getting and event data in GA. I installed Google Analytics Debugger Chrome extension and I see nothing happening (same goes when looking at Network panel in developer tools). I Googled it and read many (many) other answers and it looks like I'm doing things right. Page views, etc. are registering correctly... • Memcached: booking a fetch

  I would like to use getDelayed on the PHP Memcached extension but I think it's not implemented in the right way. Right now you ask for some keys and then retrieve all of them with fetch() and fetchAll(). But imagine a scenario where I need to retrieve 15 keys used in different parts of the page which I don't know in advance, but I can ask the various objects to give me the list. What I want is give the Memcached instance this list (each component would give its part) then later when I need them retrieve from the instance, but not all of them at once: each component would take the one it needs. Basically if I were to implement this I would prohibit using getDelayed alone and implement a bookGet($keys) method where you would add the keys to book (which actually calls getDelayed), and redefine get to handle these three cases: key is booked and retrieved - return the value; key is booked but not retrieved - go and force the fetch of the booked keys and return the correct value; key not booked - do a normal lookup. I want to know if this makes sense, your thoughts on the subject and if someone already implemented this or maybe PECL Memcached already works this way and actually the documentation doesn't explain it correctly.

• C vs C++ function questions

  I am learning C, and after starting out learning C++ as my first compiled language, I decided to "go back to basics" and learn C. There are two questions that I have concerning the ways each language deals with functions. Firstly, why does C "not care" about the scope that functions are defined in, whereas C++ does? For example, int main() { donothing(); return 0; } void donothing() { } the above will not compile in a C++ compiler, whereas it will compile in a C compiler. Why is this? Isn't C++ mostly just an extension on C, and should be mostly "backward compatible"? Secondly, the book that I found (Link to pdf) does not seem to state a return type for the main function. I check around and found other books and websites and these also commonly do not specify return types for the main function. If I try to compile a program that does not specify a return type for main, it compiles fine (although with some warnings) in a C compiler, but it doesn't compile in a C++ compiler. Again, why is that? Is it better style to always specify the return type as an integer rather than leaving it out? Thanks for any help, and just as a side note, if anyone can suggest a better book that I should buy that would be great!

  I'm working through a small file upload script (learning experience) and I noticed that when selecting microsoft office related files (.doc or .docx for example) the file objects do not have a type specified: For .doc files I had expected the type to be "application/msword" and along the same train of thought .docx to be "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document". In the cases when the type cannot be determined is the correct course of action to look at the file extension and match that to the "expected" content / mime type? • Migrating just article contect of Joomla 1.0 to 2.5.x / 3.x?

  I have a simple website using Joomla 1.0.15, just having articles in some categories. As i want to install or remove components from admin area, i got : "You are not authorised to view this resource" or something like that. This is uncommon, this site is about 5 years old, and never got error message like that. I think my website is hacked ?? I have set safe_mode = off in php.ini, turn of sh404sef, removing .htaccess file etc ... and it still does not work. Then i try to upgrade to Joomla 2.5.x / 3.x . I found that i must migrate to Joomla 1.5.x first, then from there to 2.5.x. I got problem installing "migration.zip" component in my Joomla 1.0.x (always alert/err message pop up is shown). Is there another way to migrate the website ? May be just get the article section, category, article id and the content of Joomla 1.0.x , then import it to Joomla 2.5.x / 3.x ? I don't need components, modules, mambots (if any) of the old site. How to do it ? Thanks

  The goal is to learn whether to use abstract or interface or both... I'm designing a program which allows a user to de-duplicate all images but in the process rather then I just build classes I'd like to build a set of libraries that will allow me to re-use the code for other possible future purposes. In doing so I would like to learn interface vs abstract and was hoping someone could give me input into using either. Here is what the current program will do: recursive scan directory for all files determine file type is image type compare md5 checksum against all other files found and only keep the ones which are not duplicates Store total duplicates found at the end and display size taken up Copy files that are not duplicates into folder by date example Year, Month folder with filename is file creation date. While I could just create a bunch of classes I'd like to start learning more on interfaces and abstraction in php. So if I take the scan directory class as the first example I have several methods... ScanForFiles($path) FindMD5Checksum() FindAllImageTypes() getFileList() The scanForFiles could be public to allow anyone to access it and it stores in an object the entire directory list of files found and many details about them. example extension, size, filename, path, etc... The FindMD5Checksum runs against the fileList object created from scanForFiles and adds the md5 if needed. The FindAllImageTypes runs against the fileList object as well and adds if they are image types. The findmd5checksum and findallimagetypes are optionally run methods because the user might not intend to run these all the time or at all. The getFileList returns the fileList object itself. While I have a working copy I've revamped it a few times trying to figure out whether I need to go with an interface or abstract or both. I'd like to know how an expert OO developer would design it and why?

• Checking if a function has C-linkage at compile-time [unsolvable]

  Is there any way to check if a given function is declared with C-linkage (that is, with extern "C") at compile-time? I am developing a plugin system. Each plugin can supply factory functions to the plugin-loading code. However, this has to be done via name (and subsequent use of GetProcAddress or dlsym). This requires that the functions be declared with C-linkage so as to prevent name-mangling. It would be nice to be able to throw a compiler error if the referred-to function is declared with C++-linkage (as opposed to finding out at runtime when a function with that name does not exist). • Java vs. C variant for desktop and tablet development

  I am going to write a desktop application, but I am conflicted concerning which language to use. It (the desktop application) will need to have a good GUI, and to be extendable (hopefully good with modules of some sort). It must be completely cross-platform, including executable in various tablet environments. I put this as a requirement while realizing that some modification will no doubt be necessary. The language should also have some form of networking tools available. I have read http://introcs.cs.princeton.edu/java/faq/c2java.html and understand the differences between Java and C very well. I am looking not necessarily at C, but more at a C variant. If it is a complete toss-up, I will use Java as I know Java much better. However, I do not want to use a language that will be inferior for the task I wish to accomplish. Thank you for all suggestions and explanations. • Serving files (800MB) results in an empty file

When I step in to trace the problem, I found out that when I do the _session.flush() right after _session.delete(), it throws the exception, and if I look at the sql it does, it is actually submitting a "INSERT INTO" statement, which is exactly the sql that cause UNIQUE CONSTRAINT error. I tried to encapsulate both in transaction but still same problem happens. Anyone know the reason?

• [PHP] Associating a Function to Fire on session_start()?

  Hi, I've searched the web but haven't been able to find a solution to the following challenge: I'd like to somehow associate a function that executes when session_start is called independent of the page session_start is called in. The function is intended to restore constants I've stored in $_SESSION using get_defined_constants() so that they're available again to any PHP page. This seems so straightforward to me but I'm pretty sure the PHP Session extension doesn't support the registration of user-defined events. I was wondering if anyone might have insight into this issue so I can either figure out the solution or stop trying. Ideally, I'd like to just register the function at run-time like so: $constants = get_defined_constants(); $_SESSION["constants"] = $constants["user"]; function event_handler () { foreach ($_SESSION["constants"] as $key => $value) { define($key, $value); } } register_handler("session_start", "event_handler"); So in any webpage, I could just go: session_start(); and all my constants would be available again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• SCVMM 2012 R2 - Installing Virtual Switch Fails with Error 2916

  So I've been attempting to teach myself SCVMM 2012 and Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, and I seem to have hit a snag. I've connected my Hyper-V Host to SCVMM 2012 successfully, and created a logical network, logical switch, and uplink port profile (which I essentially blew through with the default settings). However when I attempt to create a virtual switch on my Hyper-V host, I run into an issue. The job will use my logical network settings I created to configure the virtual switch, but when it tries to apply it to the host, it stalls and eventually fails with the following error: Error (2916) VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent vmhost1.test.loc was lost.
