• ClearTrace Shows Execution History

  The latest release of ClearTrace (Build 38) now shows the execution history of a particular statement. You’ll need to save the trace files to a trace group instead of just using the default.  That’s as easy as typing something into the trace group name when you upload the trace.  I usually put the server name in this field. Build 38 also re-enables support for statement level events.  If your trace includes RPC:StmtCompleted or SQL:StmtCompleted events those will be processed and save.  In the results tab you can choose to view statement level or batch level events.  Please note that saving statement level events in a trace can generate HUGE trace files very quickly.

• NEON Intrinsic Support in CE7

  Just a side note for people who may be interested in creating high performance code to take advantage on NEON instruction set but wish to use NEON intrinsic instaed of coding assembly. Compiler won't generate NEON opcode unless application use the NEON intrinsic explicitly. Basically, you need ARMv7 build enviroment, so compiler can emit NEON opcode. Intrinsic prototype can be found in public\COMMON\sdk\inc\arm_neon.h and that is all you got. If you ever find an NEON opcode does not have corresponding intrinsic, you still need to use the old trick - write that part of code in assembly.

• Problems connecting to eduroam wifi - ubuntu touch

  I am trying to connect to our university's eduroam wi-fi network with my Nexus 4 running Ubuntu touch (utopic latest build), but can't get past the first stage. I wonder if anyone can help please? I am following these instructions (which worked for my iPhone): http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/itsupport/mobile/eduroam/ But when I go to the bandit.st-andrews.ac.uk/connect page then follow the link to 'eduroam setup' I get the error message: Authorization Required This server could not verify that you are authorised to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required. Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Server at bandit.st-andrews.ac.uk Port 443 (Clearly it's the latter option (browser) as I haven't been asked for my credentials yet.) Is there a way round this, or am I just not going to be able to connect until further down the Ubuntu touch development road... Thanks!

• Powershell Active Directory Account Attribute to a variable

  Sorry for the newbie question. I am using Powershell 3 to get a list of all user accounts. I am trying to generate an output for accounts, either "Enabled" or "Disabled". I am able to get the account status code from active directory using: $rc = $Rech.PropertiesToLoad.Add("userAccountControl"); That will display the correct account status code. When I try to use an if statement on the value, I dont get any result. How do I put this value into a variable to use some logic with it? In the end, my requirements are to have the output to an CSV file that I can send to HR and have them examin it and instead of a code I would like to have it say "Enabled" or "Disabled". Thank you.

• Login crash loop

  After about the second/third batch of updates on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04, I end up getting stuck in an infinite login loop: I enter my password, screen goes black and shows me the end of the initialisation messages (including things like CUPS initialising), and then the greeter reappears. Kicker is, as I'm using gnome-shell, I just decided to uninstall LightDM, ubuntu-desktop and unity-greeter, using GDM as my manager, and the problem still happens in exactly the same manner. I'm lost even as to where to start looking - Xorg logs, LightDM logs (before I removed it), syslog and dmesg logs have held no unusual information at all. I have a TeX assignment due next week, and reinstalling Ubuntu every time I want to work on it is not going to work (nor is using TeX on Windows ;). Anything else I should try?

• Computer logout after closing the lid

  I would like my computer to logout every time I close the lid. And by that I mean log out completely. Basically I want the startup applications to run every time I open the lid to my computer. Right now, it just locks the screen and comes right back when I type in my password. It would be really great if I can have it such that the startup applications run every time I open the lid. However, would logging out lose any unsaved files? Alternatively, do you know if there is a way to run a command every time I open the lid? Thanks!

• Switch keyborad layout hotkeys don't work on lockscreen

  I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 which has a known bug that makes it impossible to change keyboard layout via Alt+Shift. I installed this patch which made it possible to switch layouts again. The problem I'm facing now is that it is still impossible to switch keyboard layout when I lock (Ctrl+Alt+L) system and press Alt+Shift. This way if I lock system with wrong layout enabled, I can't switch it to enter the password and unlock PC. I can still change layout by clicking on the layout indicator. I'll be thankful for suggestions on solving this.

  Expression Blend is a wonderful design environment for WP7 (Windows Phone 7) but for quickly visualizing a concept nothing beats Illustrator! I am excited about WP7 and decided that having a solid .ai template would prove invaluable. Some of the details of the WP7 UI Design and Interaction Guide are a bit fuzzy (literally) but I was able to generate some useful layout guides, character styles, and symbols.   Following my last posts on Change Data Capture and Change Tracking, here is another tip regarding tracking changes: table and colum checksums. The concept is: each time a column value changes, the checksum also changes. You can use this simple method to see if a table has changed very easily, however, beware, different column values may generate the same checksum. • Ubuntu chroot “No such file or directory”

  Hi there. I hace a web application where I create some folders on my server and put executables there. Then I try to wun them with chroot but I get a message that access is denied there. I tried chroot -r 777 blah blah.... and then I get a message that the folder or the file that I call (sudo chroot mydirectory myfile_inside_Mydirectory) does not exist. This happens only when I call chroot on folders created by the web server. My web application is in php and I use: shell_exec("cp -R /var/www/comp/prison/bin $dir"); shell_exec("cp -R /var/www/comp/prison/lib $dir"); shell_exec("cp /var/www/janitor.out $dir/janitor.out"); shell_exec("sudo chmod -R 777 $dir"); $process = proc_open("sudo chroot $dir janitor.out", $descriptorspec, $pipes); sudo does not need password.

• Best solution for a team home server

  I created a home server with Ubuntu 12.04 Server (using an old Netbook with an Atom CPU and 512Mb). The idea is just to be used for a small team (maximum 10 persons) that will have constant access by SSH to the main projects and could add features with Git, and will, as well, have their own directory (with VirtualHost configured) for their own personal projects. Everything is configured and running, but my question is : What is the best solution here for everyone to work? It is to have them on the http group and then all have access as normal users to the /var/www folder (that also contains GitWeb and Drupal), or would be to create a new user named after the project (as an example) where only those with the password could have access to work (configured with VirtualHost). Notice: The idea is to have 1 person responsible of the server directly (since he is the one who is hosting it), 2 more people that will have access to the root from their home in order to configure anything from their home, plus anyone else that joins the group without any root access, but just the necessary access to create personal works and work with Git.

• Ubuntu One stuck and doing nothing - help!!!

  Ubuntu One has worked fine for me for several weeks and I now have 8.2 GB of files in the clouds. Then, last night, Ubuntu One stopped working. When I fire up System-Preferences-Ubuntu One, It tells me that I have 8.2 GB stored (13.2 %) and the my status in Unknown. I've tried Restart to no avail. I even tried Remove, followed by clearing the password ring and starting over. Still nothing. I've run out of buttons to push.

• .mdf Database Filetype

  Would somebody be kind enough to correct my understanding of the following (if incorrect)? Microsoft's .mdf file-type can be used by both the LocalDB and the full Server database engines (apologies if engine is not the correct word?). The .mdf file does not care which of these two options are accessing it - so you could use either to access any given .mdf file, provided you had permissions and password etc. The LocalDB and the SQL Server are two options that can be interchangeably chosen to access .mdf files depending on the application requirements. Appreciate any clarification. Thanks

• EM CLI, diving in and beyond!

With this in mind, I put together two screen watches on Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c command line interface, or EM CLI as it is also known. There is a wealth of information on any topic that you choose to read about, from manual pages to coding documents…might I even say blog posts? In our busy lives it is so nice to just sit back with a short video, watch and learn enough to dive in. Doing more in less time, is the essence of EM CLI. It enables you to script fundamental and complex administrative tasks in an elegant way, thanks to the Jython scripting language. Repetitive tasks can be scripted and reused again and again. Sure, a Graphical User Interface provides a more intuitive step by step approach to tasks, and it provides a way of quickly becoming familiar with a product and its many features, and it is definitely the way to go when viewing performance data and historical trending…but for repetitive and complex tasks, scripting is the way to go! Lets us take the everyday task of creating an administrator. Using EM CLI in interactive mode the command could look like this.. emcli>create_user(name='jan.doe', type='EXTERNAL_USER') This command creates an administrator called jan.doe which is an externally authenticated user, possibly LDAP or SSO, defined by the EXTERNAL_USER tag. The create_user procedure takes many arguments; see the documentation for more information. Now, where EM CLI really shines and shows power is in creating multiple users. Regardless of the number, tens or thousands, the effort is the same. With the use of a standard programming construct, a loop, you can place your create_user() procedure within it. Using a loop allows you to iterate through a previously created list, creating new users until the list is complete. Using EM CLI in Script mode, your Jython loop would look something like this… for user in list_of_users:       create_user(name=user, expire=’true’, password=’welcome123’) This Jython code snippet iterates through a previously defined list of names, list_of_users, and iterates through the list, taking each name, user in this case, and creates an administrator sets the password to welcome123, but forces the user to reset it when they first login. This is only one of over four hundred procedures created to expose Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c functionality in a powerful and programmatic way. It is a few months since we released EM CLI with scripting option. We are seeing many users adapt to this fun and powerful way of using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. What are the first steps? • How can I have the passphrase for a private key remembered for a user?

  I have a collection of web services running on Ubuntu Server 12.04 that pull code from a github repository. These services run under a specific user (let's call that user 'example'). In /home/example/.ssh/is_rsa is the private key associated with the relevant github account. When performing an operation such as git pull I am greeted with: Enter passphrase for key '/home/simplytestable/.ssh/id_rsa':. Enter the correct password and all is ok. The same private key is present on local development Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 machines and no passphrase is asked for. I'd like to be able to have the passphrase remembered so that upon entering it once it is never asked for again. This will aid in automating various web service updates. I'm guessing that the passphrase needs to be stored in the relevant user's keychain such that I don't have to enter it every time the private key needs to be unlocked. How can I achieve this?

  If you used mstest and NUnit you might be aware of the fact that the former doesn't support dynamic, data driven test cases. For example, the following scenario cannot be achieved with the out-of-box mstest: given a dataset, create distinct test cases for each entry in it, using a predefined generic test case. The best result that can be achieved using mstest is a single testcase that will iterate through the dataset. There is one disadvantage: if the test fails for one entry in the dataset, the whole test case fails. So, in order to overcome the previously mentioned limitation, I decided to create a text template that will generate the test cases for me. • How can I determine if a cube is adjacent to another cube, and optimize its buffers if so?

  I'm trying to optimize the rendering of a collection of cubes, (based on an answer I was given to another question I asked). I understand the logic behind occlusion culling, but I'm having trouble with the code. When I create a cube, I want to determine if that cube is touching another existing cube, and if so I don't want to generate the redundant data in my vertex or index buffers. I'm planning on making a method that I call from my cube constructor so that everytime I create a cube, these checks are made, and neither occluded face is ever drawn. How would I go about this?

• Have lampp use PHP code in a directory not under /opt/lampp

  I have my lampp installed in the default /opt/lampp directory and the PHP code is in the htdocs folder. Now, to edit any of the files I have to use sudo permissions and have to type my password (or use sudo -i) which I do not want to do. All I want is to know if I can somehow make lampp use the code that is residing in a folder not located under /opt/lampp/. I tried giving full path and using a '..' relative path - both did not seem to work. Or is it okay to do my work in /opt/lampp/ folder by using sudo all the the time?
