• How to access Youtube_it ruby query results?

  I am trying to implement the youtube_it youtube api wrapper for ruby and have it working except I'm stumped as to how the query results should be accessed. • Rails: Multi-Step New User Signup Form (FSM?)

  I've read the "Create Multi-Step Wizard" in Advanced Rails Recipes. I've also read and re-read the documentation for the updated FSM I'm using called Workflow, and looked here and here. The Advanced Rails Recipe focuses on records (quizzes) that already exist, and doesn't cover creating new ones. The Workflow docs don't cover any code for controllers or views, so I've no idea what to do with all this model magic, and the last two links barely touch on implementation either. From the aforementioned resources, I have a good understanding of what a FSM in Rails is and how to play with it in the console or IRB, but I've got very little direction or understanding how to implement one into my Rails app. What I would like is this: a simple, multi-step user signup process. Step 1: User enters in their critical details (with validations). Step 2: User enters in their search criteria, for their profile (with validations). Step 3: User agrees to the Terms of Service (with validations). Step 4: User is greeted by a confirmation page, including a link that takes them to their newly created account. I'd also like full navigation between the steps and full capture (saves to the database) with each transition. Can someone please give me a clear implementation of something similar to this? I would LOVE an example app that includes a multi-step signup process where I can look at the code (FULL source code--models AND controllers and views) under the hood, but I've been unable to find anything like that. • How to handle update events on a ASP.NET GridView?

  Hello, This may sound silly, but I need to find out how to handle an Update event from a GridView. First of all, I have a DataSet, where there is a typed DataTable with a typed TableAdapter, based on a "select all query", with auto-generated Insert, Update, and Delete methods. Then, in my aspx page, I have an ObjectDataSource related to my typed TableAdapter on Select, Insert, Update and Delete methods. Finnally, I have a GridView bound to this ObjectDataSource, with default Edit, Update and Cancel links. How should I implement the edit functionality? Should I have something like this? protected void GridView_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e) { using(MyTableAdapter ta = new MyTableAdapter()) { ta.Update(...); TypedDataTable dt = ta.GetRecords(); this.GridView.DataSource = dt; this.GridView.DataBind(); } } In this scenario, I have the feeling that I update some changes to the DB, then I retrive and bind all the data, and not only the modified parts. Is there any way to update only the DataSet, and this to update on his turn the DataBase and the GridView? • Open a new browser window from embeded Internet Explorer

  I am working on a Windows desktop app (C++) that has an embedded Internet Explorer page. I'm working on the html page that is displayed in the There is not a back button control, so one of the requests is that links clicked on in the page should open the link in a browser window. It can open the link in the users default browser or in IE. Is this possible? I realize that this is not possible because javascript is in a sandbox and cannot touch outside applications. I'm thinking there might be a way because it is using the IE. I have tried the two methods that have worked for me in the past. Using jquery, I've tried these two approaches, but neither work in the app. They both work fine in normal browsers. Using target="_blank" $( "a" ).attr( "target", "_blank" ); The other is using window.open: $( "a" ).click( function() { window.open( $( this ).attr( "href" ) ); } ); I'm afraid that writing windows desktop applications is outside my area of expertise, so I cannot give more information regarding that side of the issue.

• Toggling between instances of NiftyPlayer on a page - won't stop playing when hidden on IE

  Hi, i've got a page with links to MP3s, when the link is clicked I use javascript to show a small Flash player (NiftyPlayer) under the link. When a different link is clicked, the old player is hidden and the new player is revealed. The player auto-starts when the element is shown, and auto-stops when hidden - in Firefox. In IE it will only auto-start and NOT auto-stop. This is what I would like to solve. Is it possible to store the current ID number somewhere and call it back when needed?   Well I was reading this post and then I came across a code which was: jokes=range(1000000) domain=[(0,(len(jokes)*2)-i-1) for i in range(0,len(jokes)*2)] I thought wouldn't it be better to calculate the value of len(jokes) once outside the list comprehension?   What's the best javascript library, or plugin or extension to a library, that has implemented autosaving functionality? The specific need is to be able to 'save' a data grid. Think gmail and Google Documents' autosave. I don't want to reinvent the wheel if its already been invented. I'm looking for an existing implementation of the magical autoSave() function. Auto-Saving:pushing to server code that saves to persistent storage, usually a DB. The server code framework is outside the scope of this question. Note that I'm not looking for an Ajax library, but a library/framework a level higher: interacts with the form itself. daemach introduced an implementation on top of jQuery @ http://ideamill.synaptrixgroup.com/?p=3. I'm not convinced it meets the lightweight and well engineered criteria though. Criteria stable, lightweight, well engineered saves onChange and/or onBlur saves no more frequently then a given number of milliseconds handles multiple updates happening at the same time doesn't save if no change has occurred since last save saves to different urls per input class Updates I've stabilized a solution. • g++ linker can't find const member function

  I have a Point class (with integer members x and y) that has a member function withinBounds that is declared like so: bool withinBounds(const Point&, const Point&) const; and defined like this: bool Point::withinBounds(const Point& TL, const Point& BR) const { if(x < TL.getX()) return false; if(x > BR.getX()) return false; if(y < TL.getY()) return false; if(y > BR.getY()) return false; // Success return true; } and then in another file, I call withinBounds like this: Point pos = currentPlayer->getPosition(); if(pos.withinBounds(topleft, bottomright)) { // code block } This compiles fine, but it fails to link. g++ gives me this error: /home/max/Desktop/Development/YARL/yarl/src/GameData.cpp:61: undefined reference to 'yarl::utility::Point::withinBounds(yarl::utility::Point const&, yarl::utility::Point const&)' When I make the function not const, it links fine. Anyone know the reason why? The linker error looks like it's looking for a non-const version of the function, but I don't know why it would.

Now, I want it so at first only the first div is showing and the others are hidden, but I have ASP loop that generates clickable links for the various divs (pages) and clicking on any given link will show that div and hide all the others. • Creating content for rails-based applications

  Hi, I'm facing a problem of cleaning up my application in Ruby on Rails. What I have is a pretty standard 3-panel, header and footer layout where different parts of the screen contain different functionality. By that I mean for example that the header contains (among others) a select that allows one to select parts of the application and a context-dependent menu. The main content area contains obviously the most interactive stuff whereas side panels contain quick-links with stuff like shopping-cart preview, list of potentially attractive products for the customer, a selector to narrow down the list of options... I was wondering how do I go about simplifying the design. Right now I have the stuff that provides data for the "common" stuff (as opposed to direct content that's placed in the center) called from all the actions (with a filter) but that doesn't feel right for me. I've read that "components" are also not the way to go for obvious performance reasons. Is there something that's more like component-oriented (other frameworks do have that kind of stuff - Grails: <ui:include ../>, ASP.NET MVC: <% Html.RenderAction() %>)? Best regards, Matthias.

• How to load a library that depends on another library, all from a jar file

  I would like to ship my application as a self-contained jar file. The jar file should contain all the class files, as well as two shared libraries. One of these shared libraries is written for the JNI and is essentially an indirection to the other one (which is 100% C). I have first tried running my jar file without the libraries, but having them accessible through the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. That worked fine. I then put the JNI library into the jar file. I have read about loading libraries from jar files by copying them first to some temporary directory, and that worked well for me (note that the 100% C library was, I suppose, loaded as before). Now I want to put both libraries into the jar, but I don't understand how I can make sure that they will both be loaded. Sure I can copy them both to a temporary directory, but when I load the "indirection" one, it always gives me: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/.../libindirect.so: /libpure.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried to force the JVM to load the "100% C" library first by explicitely calling System.load(...) on its temporary file, but that didn't work better. I suspect the system is looking for it when resolving the links in libindirect.so but doesn't care about what the JVM loaded. Can anyone help me on that one? Thanks

• Using jQuery tools from within GWT -- is there a way to allow exchanges?

  I have a GWT web-app with a nearly full page Google map window. Inside the the map, I have infowindows which include links. What I want to do is use jquery tools overlays (http://flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/apple.html) to open the overlay and display it on top of the map once the link inside the info window is clicked. Now, the link source is generated dynamically, and it is hosted on a different server, so i have to open it in an iframe and set the source of the iframe before it opens. this seems simple enough since i only have 1 iframe on the page: function changeSource(url){ $("#menuIFrame").attr("src",url); } To call this before opening the overlay (which is done on mouse release), i create the following element in the google maps infowindow via GWT: <a href="http://whatever.com/menu/" onClick="changeSource('http://whatever.com/menu/');" rel=#menu"> View menu </a> Jquery tools works by opening whatever div has the id assigned to the value of 'rel', but because i have my javascript/jquery on my LandingPage.html in GWT, there appears to be some sort of disconnect between the two because the changeSource function is never called AND the overlay is never added to the window. Here's my app: http://truxmapper.appspot.com/ As you can see, the other overlays will work fine, but once you click an infowindow and try to view the menu, it will simply use the href to open the url in that window. Does anyone know of a solution that will allow me to accomplish my goal? Thanks!

  I am working on some projects as a developer(PHP,MySQL) in which AJAX and jQuery is already implemented. But now I want to learn implementation of AJAX and jQuery stuff. Can anyone tell me the exact steps with explanation? I have created a project in Zend. There is only one controller(IndexController) and two actions(a and b) in my project now. Now I want to use ajax in my project. But I don't know how to start. I read some tutorial but unable to completely understand. When user clicks first link (Load info A) then a1.phtml should be loaded into div one and a2.phtml should be loaded into div two When user clicks second link (Load info B) then b1.phtml should be loaded into div one and b2.phtml should be loaded into div two And someone tell me the purpose of JSON in this process and how to use this also? For Web Forms I could use the javascript Back() or Go(-1) functions, but they relied on postbacks. I could of course hard code the previous page and controller as I have done above. However I am struggling to find links that explain to me how Url.Action works. Because if I do this, I also need to include an index parameter, and I am not clear how the syntax works for that. It seems odd the amount of coding to do this. Out of curiosity, I am also wondering how you TDD client side code like this.

How can I correct this problem? logged is a variable which helps determine whether the user is logged in or not. When the user is logged in $_SESSION['logged'] is set, otherwise unset. I want the default value of $_SESSION['logged'] to be unset prior to the execution of the script. How can I solve this problem?
