• How to only allow particular programs to modify certain files?

  I want to make certain directories on my drives read-only except to particular programs who will have full permissions. For example, the Microsoft Word might be allowed to modify the files in my Documents folder, but other programs (such as the Command Prompt) would not be allowed to. I'm guessing this requires a file system filter driver of some sort, but I don't know which programs have this capability. Is there any (free) program that can do this for me?

  Hi, sometimes when I go to sleep I leave the computer playing some music, but I'd like to tell it, once X minutes have passed just mute the volume. Does anyone know of a program to do so? I'm targetting Windows 7 here but I guess anyone for Vista will do equally. Thanks.

  On Windows XP, you could go to Folder Options - File Types, select PNG, create a new action, such as this Action: Crush Application: "F:\Programs\PNGCrush\crush.bat" "%1" So you can right click on a .png file and select Crush. How do you do this on Windows 7? I assume through regedit or .reg file, but how? EDIT: Thank you for all your replies... but I'd like to avoid "Open With" or 3rd party program if possible.

They are not uploaded to any website. The program simply syncs between devices (Mac OSX, iPad, Windows) on the local network, without the need of any remote server/database. • Visio 2010 64 bit won't run

  I have recently installed Visio 2010 Premium 64 bit and although it installed fine, when i try to run it i get c:\windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.vc90.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4148_none_04480933ab2137b1\mfc90u.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application but it just won't work. Any clues/suggestions? Office 2010 which i installed prior is working fine.

• How to get httrack to work with SSL on mac os x? (libssl.so not found)

  I'm trying to use httrack website copier but the program is running and reporting "no-ssl" (ie: it does not have the capability to copy secure sites). From looking over this thread, it seems that the problem is either when I make & configure the program, or when I run the program, it is not finding the lib-ssl / open-ssl that I have installed. I think it is looking for /var/root/lib/libssl.so.1.0 The user on that forum states that he created a symlink which allowed httrack to find the ssl library in the non-default location. Perhaps that's what I need to do - but where do I create the link from and to? I'm not seeing that I have any libssl.so files installed on my system. Do I need the development package? If so, how do I install that? I used macports to install the current version of openssl that I have. I'm running OS X 10.6. • How to boot linux direct to application on console with no login

  I have a need to start an application on bootup on the linux console and I do not have a need for any type of login or security. I do not need any ALT-F1,F2,etc virtual consoles but I would like to allow SSH access via the network port for debugging, loading, etc. The application is a SDL graphics program running with fbcon as the SDL_VIDEODRIVER if that matters. I'm currently using Fedora 10 and 12 but any distro that supports SDL using the fbcon framebuffer would be acceptable.

  I'm getting the below error message while trying to browse to a local share on a Windows Server 2003 machine: Windows cannot find ### this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an Association in the folder options control panel The server is on the network, has an assigned IP address, can access the internet and is otherwise functioning normally. I realise this message can occur when opening a document or file which has no application associated with it, but I'm trying to access a share. What's going on here?

  when viewing a television program using Internet Explorer/Firefox/Chrome/SeaMonkey/Safari it constantly pauses unless I have some kind of activity with either the mouse or the keyboard. The browser with the least amount of problems is SeaMonkey, the one with the most is Internet Explorer. Annie idea of what is causing this or how to prevent it? • Apache HTTPd - rotatelogs not working

  I've edited my conf.d/ssl.conf file and changed the TransferLog directive from: TransferLog logs/ssl_access_log to TransferLog "|/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60" (I am using 60 seconds for testing) Since that change and an httpd restart my original ssl_access_log is not updating and a new log was not generated. What am I missing? in my error log, I am receiving this message Could not open log file 'logs/ssl_access_log.2014-05-30.log' (No such file or directory) piped log program '/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60' failed unexpectedly

• Can IIS7 execute php files?

  I have IIS7 on my computer. It can display html files. But if I put a PHP program in the corresponding folder and then try to open it with the Chrome browser I do not see the expected page. Instead Chrome "downloads" this file. Is it beacuse IIS7 cannot display the PHP files?

  I have attempted to install and run Sara, but it seems that the software is broken. I could get it to run on 127.0.0.1, but it seems that no network packets ever leave the current computer that it is installed on. It tests for known security holes in a network. It was based on an older software SATAN. Is there another free alternative to this program? I did not see anything listed in this thread.

• Turning down the sound on a switched off user

  If one switches users (i.e. user one switches off, and then another users logs in) and there is sound playing on the first user, that sound will continue to play for the second user. If the second user has admin rights, they can guess what program is causing the sound and then kill it, but that is very clumsy, and far more than what "needs" to be done. When I open the mixer, it just shows that sound is playing. How can I stop it?
