  • Is it possible to create custom methods in entity classes in linq to sql

    - by doekman
I have a table Site in SQL with (amongst others) three properties idReviewer1, idReviewer2, idReviewer3. Now I would like to create a methods on the entity class of Site to check if a user is a reviewer: partial class Site { public bool IsReviewer(int idUser) { return idReviewer1 == idUser || idReviewer2 == idUser || idReviewer3 == idUser; } } and I use it like this: return from s in db.Sites where s.IsReviewer(user) select s; However, Linq to SQL doesn't know how to translate this to SQL. I get the following error message: Method 'Boolean IsReviewer(Int32)' has no supported translation to SQL. I'd rather not write this: return from s in db.Sites where idReviewer1 == idUser || idReviewer2 == idUser || idReviewer3 == idUser select s; Is there any way to put this functionality in one place, without resorting to SQL?

  • SQL Find duplicate sets

    - by Aheho
given this Schema: table tblSET SetID int PK SetName nvarchar(100) Table tblSetItem SetID int PK ItemID int PK tblSetItem.SetID is a FK into the tblSet Table. Some data: tblSet SetID SetName 1 Red 2 Blue 3 Maroon 4 Yellow 5 Sky tblSetItem SetID ItemID 1 100 1 101 2 100 2 108 2 109 3 100 3 101 4 101 4 108 4 109 4 110 5 100 5 108 5 109 I'd like a way to identify which sets contain the same items. In the example above Red and Maroon contain the same items (100,101) and Blue and Sky contain the same values (100,108,109) Is there a sql query which would provide this answer?

  • SSRS Parameters Displaying incorrectly

    - by Ryan
Basically, I have a datetime parameter, after picking a date with the calendar widget, the date will display correctly (12/1/2010 or 1-DEC-2010). If the parameter tab refreshes in any way, either from report processing or changing another of the parameters, the date flips the month and day (1-DEC-2010 becomes 12-Jan-2010, or 12/1/2010 becomes 1/12/2010). I'm utilizing the SSRS plugin for C# (Microsoft.Reporting.Winforms.ReportViewer). Has anyone seen anything like this?

  • Why does "non exists" SQL query work and "not in" doesn't

    - by Josh
I spent some time trying to figure out why this query isn't pulling the results i expected: SELECT * FROM NGS WHERE ESPSSN NOT IN (SELECT SSN FROM CENSUS) finally i tried writing the query another way and this ended up getting the expected results: SELECT * FROM NGS n WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM CENSUS WHERE SSN = n.ESPSSN) The first query seems more appropriate and "correct". I use "in" and "not in" all the time for similar selects and have never had a problem that i know of.

  • Why can one null return be tested but another throws an exception?

    - by mickey
I want to test if an xml attribute is present. Given this: XmlAttributeCollection PG_attrColl = SomeNodeorAnother.Attributes; This first test works: if (null != PG_attrColl["SomeAttribute"]) "GetNamedItem" is supposed to return null, but the following test throws an exception complaining about the null it returns. if (null != PG_attrColl.GetNamedItem("SomeAttribute").Value;) Why the difference? Just curious.

  • SQL Group by Minute- Expanded

    - by Barnie
I am working on something similar to this post here: TS SQL - group by minute However mine is pulling from an message queue, and I need to see an accurate count of the amount of traffic the Message Queue is creating/ sending, and at what time Select * From MessageQueue mq My expanded version of this though is the following: A) User defines a start time and an end time (Easy enough using Declare's @StartTime and @EndTime B) Give the user the option of choosing the "grouping". Will it be broken out by 1 minutes, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes (Max). (I had thought to do this with a CASE statement, but my test problems fall apart on me.) C) Display the data to accurately show a count of what happened during the interval (Grouping) selected. This is where I am at so far SQL Blob: DECLARE @StartTime datetime DECLARE @EndTime datetime SELECT DATEPART(n, mq.cre_date)/5 as Time --Trying to just sort by 5 minute intervals ,CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),mq.Cre_Date,101) ,COUNT(*) as results FROM dbo.MessageQueue mq WHERE mq.cre_date BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate GROUP BY DATEPART(n, mq.cre_date)/5 --Trying to just sort by 5 minute intervals , eq.Cre_Date This is the output I would like to achieve: [Time] [Date] [Message Count] 1300 06/26/2012 5 1305 06/26/2012 1 1310 06/26/2012 100

  • I'd like to preview a Word document on form.

    - by Tychumsempir
I'm writing a VB program that fills in values within a word document. I'm utilizing the Microsoft Word 12.0 Object Library as a Reference. I'd like to provide a scrollable preview pane to my user that is within the form he or she is using. It would be even cooler if the user could edit the document through this pane. I've done Interop extensively, so I'm well aware of how to write and edit a Word document. I just want to put it into a frame and preview it. I'll probably try to select around the document based on what is changing as the user provides input so they can see what's being changed and where. Thoughts? Thanks

  • How to remove duplicate records in a table?

    - by Mason Wheeler
I've got a table in a testing DB that someone apparently got a little too trigger-happy on when running INSERT scripts to set it up. The schema looks like this: ID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER TYPE_INT SMALLINT SYSTEM_VALUE SMALLINT NAME VARCHAR MAPPED_VALUE VARCHAR It's supposed to have a few dozen rows. It has about 200,000, most of which are duplicates in which TYPE_INT, SYSTEM_VALUE, NAME and MAPPED_VALUE are all identical and ID is not. Now, I could probably make a script to clean this up that creates a temporary table in memory, uses INSERT .. SELECT DISTINCT to grab all the unique values, TRUNCATE the original table and then copy everything back. But is there a simpler way to do it, like a DELETE query with something special in the WHERE clause?

  • Sub Query making Query slow.

    - by Muhammad Kashif Nadeem
Please copy and paste following script. DECLARE @MainTable TABLE(MainTablePkId int) INSERT INTO @MainTable SELECT 1 INSERT INTO @MainTable SELECT 2 DECLARE @SomeTable TABLE(SomeIdPk int, MainTablePkId int, ViewedTime1 datetime) INSERT INTO @SomeTable SELECT 1, 1, DATEADD(dd, -10, getdate()) INSERT INTO @SomeTable SELECT 2, 1, DATEADD(dd, -9, getdate()) INSERT INTO @SomeTable SELECT 3, 2, DATEADD(dd, -6, getdate()) DECLARE @SomeTableDetail TABLE(DetailIdPk int, SomeIdPk int, Viewed INT, ViewedTimeDetail datetime) INSERT INTO @SomeTableDetail SELECT 1, 1, 1, DATEADD(dd, -7, getdate()) INSERT INTO @SomeTableDetail SELECT 2, 2, NULL, DATEADD(dd, -6, getdate()) INSERT INTO @SomeTableDetail SELECT 3, 2, 2, DATEADD(dd, -8, getdate()) INSERT INTO @SomeTableDetail SELECT 4, 3, 1, DATEADD(dd, -6, getdate()) SELECT m.MainTablePkId, (SELECT COUNT(Viewed) FROM @SomeTableDetail), (SELECT TOP 1 s2.ViewedTimeDetail FROM @SomeTableDetail s2 INNER JOIN @SomeTable s1 ON s2.SomeIdPk = s1.SomeIdPk WHERE s1.MainTablePkId = m.MainTablePkId) FROM @MainTable m Above given script is just sample. I have long list of columns in SELECT and around 12+ columns in Sub Query. In my From clause there are around 8 tables. To fetch 2000 records full query take 21 seconds and if I remove Subquiries it just take 4 seconds. I have tried to optimize query using 'Database Engine Tuning Advisor' and on adding new advised indexes and statistics but these changes make query time even bad. Note: As I have mentioned that this is test data to explain my question the real data has lot of tables joins columns but without Sub-Query the results us fine. Any help thanks.

  • SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions doesn't work

    - by windforceus
I follow the direction in here How to configure SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions to create ASPState db. I have 2 web application in IIS 7. In IIS web application setting, i go to "Session State" and set session state as "SQL Server" and provide connection string. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong? Thanks!!

  • CLR: Multi Param Aggregate, Argument not in Final Output?

    - by OMG Ponies
Why is my delimiter not appearing in the final output? It's initialized to be a comma, but I only get ~5 white spaces between each attribute using: SELECT [article_id] , dbo.GROUP_CONCAT(0, t.tag_name, ',') AS col FROM [AdventureWorks].[dbo].[ARTICLE_TAG_XREF] atx JOIN [AdventureWorks].[dbo].[TAGS] t ON t.tag_id = atx.tag_id GROUP BY article_id The bit for DISTINCT works fine, but it operates within the Accumulate scope... Output: article_id | col ------------------------------------------------- 1 | a a b c I only have rudimentary C# API knowledge... • Modeling many-to-one with constraints?

    - by Greg Beech
I'm attempting to create a database model for movie classifications, where each movie could have a single classification from each of one of multiple rating systems (e.g. BBFC, MPAA). This is the current design, with all implied PKs and FKs: TABLE Movie ( MovieId INT ) TABLE ClassificationSystem ( ClassificationSystemId TINYINT ) TABLE Classification ( ClassificationId INT, ClassificationSystemId TINYINT ) TABLE MovieClassification ( MovieId INT, ClassificationId INT, Advice NVARCHAR(250) -- description of why the classification was given ) The problem is with the MovieClassification table whose constraints would allow multiple classifications from the same system, whereas it should ideally only permit either zero or one classifications from a given system. Is there any reasonable way to restructure this so that a movie having exactly zero or one classifications from any given system is enforced by database constraints, given the following requirements? Do not duplicate information that could be looked up (i.e. duplicating ClassificationSystemId in the MovieClassification table is not a good solution because this could get out of sync with the value in the Classification table) Remain extensible to multiple classification systems (i.e. a new classification system does not require any changes to the table structure)? Note also the Advice column - each mapping of a movie to a classification needs to have a textual description of why that classification was given to that movie. Any design would need to support this.

  • Append Results from two queries and output as a single table.

    - by tHeSiD
I have two queries that I have to run, I cannon join them But their resultant tables have the same structrure. For example I have select * from products where producttype=magazine select * from products where producttype = book I have to combine the result of these two queries, and then output it as one single result. I have to do this inside a stored procedure. PS These are just examples I provided, i have a complex table structure. The main thing is I cannot join them.

  • Select into from one sql server into another?

    - by blasto
I want to select data from one table (T1, in DB1) in one server (Data.Old.S1) into data in another table (T2, in DB2) in another server (Data.Latest.S2). How can I do this ? Please note the way the servers are named. The query should take care of that too. That is, SQL server should not be confused about fully qualified table names. For example - this could confuse SQL server - Data.Old.S1.DB1.dbo.T1.

  • Help with a query

    - by stackoverflowuser
Hi Based on the following table ID Effort Name ------------------------- 1 1 A 2 1 A 3 8 A 4 10 B 5 4 B 6 1 B 7 10 C 8 3 C 9 30 C I want to check if the total effort against a name is less than 40 then add a row with effort = 40 - (Total Effort) for the name. The ID of the new row can be anything. If the total effort is greater than 40 then trucate the data for one of the rows to make it 40. So after applying the logic above table will be ID Effort Name ------------------------- 1 1 A 2 1 A 3 8 A 10 30 A 4 10 B 5 4 B 6 1 B 11 25 B 7 10 C 8 3 C 9 27 C I was thinking of opening a cursor, keeping a counter of the total effort, and based on the logic insert existing and new rows in another temporary table. I am not sure if this is an efficient way to deal with this. I would like to learn if there is a better way.
