  I am wondering if there is a way to change the schema that I am working in while inside Management Studio. For instance I may have a default schema of dbo. But there are times I may want to query objects in say the accounting schema. It would be nice if I could issue a command and make it so I no longer must include the accounting before tables and views. But the next time I go in, I will be back to default of dbo.

• Adjust CSS of all cells of a specific table without giving each cell a unique id?

  Is there any way to modify the CSS properties of one table's cells based on the table's ids, rather than specific child ids? I would like to change one table's appearance (giving each cell a colored border, for instance) one way, and another table another way, but I'd like to avoid specifying an id for each cell. To be clear, I don't need to individually access each cell in the table - I just want to set all of the properties of "child" cells of various tables.

• shared web hosting architecture in a university setting

  We're in the process of creating a shared webhosting infrastructure for our university. Departments within the university can host their sites on this infrastructure. We're thinking of setting up multiple, load balanced web servers attached to shared storage (for web content and Apache config files). There will also be database servers behind these web servers. Does anyone have any other suggestions about this? Any recommendations for an alternative setup? Would having cPanel/WHM/Plesk be a good idea to automate account creation/maintenance?

• Xen private networking between multiple hosts

  I have two physical hosts running Xen 3.2, sharing storage via iSCSI. On these two hosts are a number of domUs and I'd like to network them in multiple private networks so they can only contact other domUs on their private network. My understanding of the xen documentation suggests it's possible to do this within one dom0 (ie create virtual networks between domUs), but I've found nothing explaining how this can be implemented across multiple dom0s on different hosts. The only thing that jumps to mind is manually creating iptable rules to route data to the other host, but this seems to lack elegance and could quickly grow cumbersome. Any suggestions? All advice is much appreciated!

• unable to access shared drives n win7

  OK, this is doing my head in. Not your usual Win7 sharing problem. Just built a win 7 comp to go onto my home lan and be accessed by all on the network, mostly running XP SP3. Installed it as a single HD+DVD system, got it happy, then added my storage drives, set them up in the right order and letters, rebooted, and shared them. Couldn't access the computer at all from any XP machine. Set the pasword thingy in win7 to NO, and now I can "see" all four shared drives from any machine, but can access only two of them. Please tell me whats going on as I've done nothing different from one drive to the other, just installed and set up drive letters as normal, then shared the damn things. The odd thing about it? the two 1.5T drives that have a lot of data on board are accessable, the two nearly empty 500G ones are not. ANY ideas? Cheers, Colin

  How do you ORM a view? Is there any difference with a table in terms of reverse engineering? In my case, I have a whole pile of joined tables that will be read-only in an application. So, if I need sort of a 1 Object with all collections in proper order, instead of long chains of relationships - collection with another etc, it'll be simpler. What do you think and how do you accomplish this?

• Oracle RAC interconnect in a Dell M1000e Blade Enclosure

  We are looking at a Dell M1000e enclosure and appropriate Blades with 4 NICs each. We are planning on running Linux/Oracle 11g RAC on two blades, storage will be handled on an iSCSI SAN for which two NICs (via passthrough) will be connected leaving us with two NICs (via blade centre switches). We would like to have an interconnect (obviously) , an external IP and an internal IP. Would best practice be to: bond the remaining two interfaces and VLAN as appropriate to provide three virtual interfaces? run the interconnect on one interface and VLAN the external/internal interfaces? purchase a blade with more NICs as the above is a terrible idea? Another option? Please feel free to point out the blindingly obvious or to relevant documentation on support.oracle. I am specifically interested in supported configurations and best practices. • How to set up Dell OMSA tools on Debian 6 (Squeeze) (PE2950)

  I assume I have set up them up incorrectly or am missing a library or dependency. When I log into the OMSA web interface I can't see anything Also, omreport tells me nothing; root@box:~# omreport storage controller No controllers found I assume these two will use the same source of information so what ever is wrong will fix them both. I set up OMSA as per these instructions. Also I have compiled MegaCLI (as this is a PowerEdge 2950 with a Perc 6/i controller) and I have used that to update the RAID firmware, so that works, but the Dell tools aren't.   Hi im a little confused by this diagram http://www.b-eye-network.com/images/content/i030ht0104.gif (Last diagram in the article) 1 - In the "ACCOUNTING ENTRY" table it shows "DebitEntry" and "CreditEntry" i) is this two column or ii) is this two rows of data? or iii) is it two separate tables on its own, Acounting_entry_credit and Accounting_entry_debit?   I'm planning to setup my home network from scratch and want to ask professional opinions or tips. My home is connected to Internet with a cable connection (100 Mb/s). The devices I would like to connect are VoIP phone (RJ-45), TV (WiFi/LAN), 3 laptops (WiFi), 2 smartphones (WiFi), an iPad (WiFi), a Kindle (WiFi), a network printer and, probably, a home media storage (WiFi/LAN). As you can see, the most load will be on WiFi connections (probably, even if TV supports WiFi it's better to connect it by LAN?). So, I need help to choose the best router (or combination of routers) to support stable connections for all these devices and minimize the total number of routers/adapters. I like how Cisco/Linksys devices were working for me in the past, so preferably (but not obligatorily) I want to setup network with their solutions. Any thoughts?

• Workflow for statistical analysis and report writing

  Does anyone have any wisdom on workflows for data analysis related to custom report writing? The use-case is basically this: Client commissions a report that uses data analysis, e.g. a population estimate and related maps for a water district. The analyst downloads some data, munges the data and saves the result (e.g. adding a column for population per unit, or subsetting the data based on district boundaries). The analyst analyzes the data created in (2), gets close to her goal, but sees that needs more data and so goes back to (1). Rinse repeat until the tables and graphics meet QA/QC and satisfy the client. Write report incorporating tables and graphics. Next year, the happy client comes back and wants an update. This should be as simple as updating the upstream data by a new download (e.g. get the building permits from the last year), and pressing a "RECALCULATE" button, unless specifications change. At the moment, I just start a directory and ad-hoc it the best I can. I would like a more systematic approach, so I am hoping someone has figured this out... I use a mix of spreadsheets, SQL, ARCGIS, R, and Unix tools. Thanks! PS: Below is a basic Makefile that checks for dependencies on various intermediate datasets (w/ ".RData" suffix) and scripts (".R" suffix). Make uses timestamps to check dependencies, so if you 'touch ss07por.csv', it will see that this file is newer than all the files / targets that depend on it, and execute the given scripts in order to update them accordingly. This is still a work in progress, including a step for putting into SQL database, and a step for a templating language like sweave. Note that Make relies on tabs in its syntax, so read the manual before cutting and pasting. • Complex Entity Framework linked-graphs issue: how to limit change set / break the graph?

  I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges.
