  I have four objects - for the sake of arguments, let say that they are the following letters: A B C D I need to calculate the number of variations that can be made for these under the following two conditions: No repetition Objects are position agnostic Taking the above, this means that with a four object sequence, I can have only one sequence that matches the criteria (since order is not considered for being unique): ABCD There are four variations for a three object combination from the four object pool: ABC, ABD, ACD, and BCD There are six variations for a two object combination from the four object pool: AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, and CD And the most simple one, if taken on at a time: A, B, C, and D I swear that this was something covered in school, many, many years ago - and probably forgotten since I didn't think I would use it. :-) I am anticipating that factorials will come into play, but just trying to force an equation is not working. Any advice would be appreciated.

• Method of documentation for SQL Stored Procedures

  I work in a location where a single person is responsible for creating and maintaining all stored procedures for SQL servers, and is the conduit between software developers and the database. There are a lot of stored procedures in place, and with a database diagram it is simple enough 90% of the time to figure out what the stored procedure needs for arguments/returns as output. For the other 10% of the time, however, it would be helpful to have a reference. Since the DBA is a busy guy (aren't we all), it would be good to have some program which documents the stored procedures to a file so that the developers can see it without being able to access the SPs themselves. The question is, does anyone know of a good program to accomplish this? Basically what we need is something that gives the name of the SP, the argument list and the output, both with datatypes and a nullable flag.

• Can I find out if the java program was launched using java or javaw

  This is related to an earlier question by a different user How to detect that code is running inside eclipse IDE I noticed that eclipse always launches programs with javaw rather than java. (This does not imply a program launched with javaw was launched from eclipse). I can find the arguments passed using RuntimeMXBean RuntimemxBean = ManagementFactory.getRuntimeMXBean(); List<String> lst=RuntimemxBean.getInputArguments(); for(int i=0;i<lst.size();i++) System.out.println(lst.get(i)); But this does not tell me whether it was launched using java or javaw. Is there any way to find it out? Another related question is why does eclipse use javaw to launch programs?

• How do I use compiler intrinsic __fmul_?

  I am writing a massively parallel GPU application. I have been optimizing it by hand. I received a 20% performance increase with _fdividef(x, y), and according to The Cuda C Programming Guide (section C.2.1), using similar functions for multiplication and adding is also beneficial. The function is stated as this: "_fmulrn,rz,ru,rd". __fdividef(x,y) was not stated with the arguments in brackets. I was wondering, what are those brackets? If I run the simple code: int t = __fmul_(5,4); I a compiler error about how _fmul is undefined. I have the CUDA runtime included, so I don't think it is a setup thing; rather it is something to do with those square brackets. How do I correctly use this function? Thank you.

  Hey all, If I have the following code: main(int argc, char *argv[]){ char serveradd[20]; strcpy(serveradd, argv[1]); int port = atoi(argv[2]); printf("%s %d \n", serveradd, port); The first two arguments to the command line are printed. However, if I do this: char serveradd[20]; strcpy(serveradd, argv[1]); int port = atoi(argv[2]); char versionnum[1]; strcpy(versionnum, argv[3]); printf("%s %d %s \n", serveradd, port, versionnum);` The first argument (serveradd) does not print out to the screen and is not being stored... Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Thanks!

  I'm writing a VB.net program for a website that uses the AJAX Lits options http://www.ajaxdaddy.com/demo-dhtml-autocomplete.html Whats more is that the website has used additional arguments in the function that i'm not exactly sure what they are calling, and there a trigger that executes an action that must be click, tabbing and returning fail. • WPF webbrowser - get HTML downloaded?

  I'm listening to the WPF webbrowser's LoadCompleted event. It has some navigation arguments which provide details regarding the navigation. However, e.Content is always null. Am I paying attention to the wrong event here? How can I fetch the HTML that was just downloaded as string? I tried some things which I would consider hacks, but they return a string of HTML, even though that was not the string downloaded. For instance, with that method when I go to a page which just sends me the string abc, I get the result <document><body>abc</body></document> or something similar. I would prefer not getting into any more hacks than nescessary to get this running.

• wordpress filters documentation? Trying to understand add_filter()

  I read over the documentation several times and have been having a hard time trying to figure out what is going on with the function. I'm more and more confused after looking at the documentation, looking over the source code as well. add_filter($tag, $hook, $priority, $args); it seems to me the new function extends the parent function. What puzzle's me is what parts of the hook becomes overridden. in some examples in the documentation i see that some variables are replaced with the $args in your new $tag. I almost understood it all here: http://www.andrewnacin.com/2010/05/18/rethinking-template-tags-in-plugins/ but then i couldn't figure out how you pass arguments and which eventually get overriden. thanks in advance.

  I want to filter elements from a list of lists, and iterate over the elements of each element using a lambda. For example, given the list: a = [[1,2,3],[4,5,6]] suppose that I want to keep only elements where the sum of the list is greater than N. I tried writing: filter(lambda x, y, z: x + y + z >= N, a) but I get the error: <lambda>() takes exactly 3 arguments (1 given) How can I iterate while assigning values of each element to x, y, and z? Something like zip, but for arbitrarily long lists. thanks, p.s. I know I can write this using: filter(lambda x: sum(x)..., a) but that's not the point, imagine that these were not numbers but arbitrary elements and I wanted to assign their values to variable names.

• Using switch and enumerations as substitute for named methods

  This pattern pops up a lot. It looks like a very verbose way to move what would otherwise be separate named methods into a single method and then distinguished by a parameter. Is there any good reason to have this pattern over just having two methods Method1() and Method2() ? • Combine two views into one view

  I have two views that I would like to combine into one. The first view shows all items of X where company ID = Y. This is to give preferential sort to the client first, and then everyone else. So I created a second view, all items of X, where company ID != Y. I created it as an Attachment to attach to the first view, but I don't think I got the intended result. How can I combine these views so the first view results are listed first, and then the second view is too, using the same pager, filters, and arguments? Is there any way of achieving this without programming it?

I start a process like the code below, when process exists, the Exist event of the process is fired but it closed my console application too, I just want to start a process and then in exit event of that process start another process. It is also wired that process output is reflecting in my main console application.   I've searched everywhere, but I can't seem to find any help... I have some textboxes that are created dynamically via JS, so I need to bind all of their classes to an autocomplete. As a result, I need to use the new .live() option. As an example, to bind all items with a class of .foo now and future created: $('.foo').live('click', function(){ alert('clicked'); }); It takes (and behaves) the same as .bind(). However, I want to bind an autocomplete... This doesn't work: $('.foo').live('autocomplete', function(event, ui){ source: 'url.php' // (surpressed other arguments) }); How can I use .live() to bind autocomplete? • Combining 2 PHP frameworks that both implement __() internationalization function

  Never had a question I couldn't google until now, and it may be a doozy: I have a PHP site that combines Wordpress with Kohana - Wordpress for the blog, and Kohana for the custom functionality. This is done using a Wordpress plugin that stitches them together. This works great except they both define a __() internationalization function, with different arguments etc. so once wordpress has overridden kohana's __(), if kohana calls __() it explodes. I'm not that familiar with PHP so this might be naive, but shouldn't this stuff be namespaced? Is there anyway other than changing the source of one or the other framework to allow them to call their own respective __()?

• How to get a physics engine like Nape working?

  Introduction: I think Nape is a relatively new engine so some of you may not know it. It's supposedly faster than box2d and I like that there is decent documentation. Here's the site: http://code.google.com/p/nape/ I'm relatively new to programming. I am decent at AS3's basic functionality, but every time I try to implement some kind of engine or framework I can't even seem to get it to work. With Nape I feel I got a little further than before but I still got stuck. My problem: I'm using Adobe CS5, I managed to import the SWC file like described here. Next I tried to copy the source of one of the demo's like this one and get it to work but I keep getting errors. I made a new class file, copied the demo source to it, and tried to add it to the stage. My stage code basically looks like this: import flash.Boot; // these 2 lines are as described in the tutorial new Boot(); var demo = new Main(); // these 2 are me guessing what I'm supposed to do addChild(demo); Well, it seems the source code is not even being recognized by flash as a valid class file. I tried editing it, but even if I get it recognized (give a package name and add curly brackets) but I still get a bunch of errors. Is it psuedo code or something? What is going on? My goal: I can imagine I'm going about this the wrong way. So let me explain what I'm trying to achieve. I basically want to learn how to use the engine by starting from a simple basic example that I can edit and mess around with. If I can't even get a working example then I'm unable to learn anything. Preferably I don't want to start using something like FlashDevelop (as I'd have to learn how to use the program) but if it can't be helped then I can give it a try. Thank you.

• Ways not to write function headers twice?

  Hi, I've got a C/C++ question, can I reuse functions across different object files or projects without writing the function headers twice? (one for defining the function and one for declaring it) I don't know much about C/C++, Delphi and D. I assume that in Delphi or D, you would just write once what arguments a function takes and then you can use the function across diferent projects. And in C you need the function declaration in header files *again??, right?. Is there a good tool that will create header files from C sources? I've got one, but it's not preprocessor-aware and not very strict. And I've had some macro technique that worked rather bad.   I know that in StructureMap I can read from my *.config files (or files referenced by them), when I want to pass specific arguments to an object's constructor. ForRequestedType<IConfiguration>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<SqlServerConfiguration>() .WithCtorArg("db_server_address") .EqualToAppSetting("data.db_server_address") But what I would like to do is read from one config setting in debug mode and another in release mode. Sure I could surround the .EqualToAppSetting("data.db_server_address"), with #if DEBUG, but for some reason those statements make me cringe a little when I put them in. I'd like to know if there was some way to do this with the StructureMap library itself. So can I feed my objects different settings based on whether the project is built in debug or release mode?

• Coldfusion CFC creation taking a variable amout of time to execute.

  I've been doing some logging of object creation times in our open account process in production. Periodically, initializing an object would take way longer than expected. By initializing I mean calling it's init() and passing a couple of arguments that may be simple variables or objects. e.g. <cfset validateObj = createObject("component", "compExample").init( productionMode = VARIABLES.productionMode, ipWhiteListed = isWhiteListed, ipLocatorObj = VARIABLES.ipLocatorObj ) /> Thats all that happens in init() methods. Generally the execution time would be 0ms, but at random times I might get 3 or 3.5 seconds. This is not specific to one particular server or to our generally busy period. It appears to be quite random. One thought was that these templates were being evicted from our template cache as they are not especially frequently used, although I checked cfstat on a number of servers and the max CP/Sec is -1. Running CF 8,0,1 Has anybody else ever come across this?

  I am trying to set the click event of a button on my form and for some reason I am getting weird behavior. When I bind the click event to a function that takes no arguments, things seem to work fine. But when I bind the event with a function that takes an argument, the event fires on document ready and on click. Any ideas? All in all it is like a goto point with an end and the option to return where it was called from.
