• How Do I Restrict Repository Access via WebSVN?

  I have multiple subversion repositories which are served up through Apache 2.2 and WebDAV. They are all located in a central place, and I used this debian-administration.org article as the basis (I dropped the use of the database authentication for a simple htpasswd file though). Since then, I have also started using WebSVN. My issue is that not all users on the system should be able to access the different repositories, and the default setup of WebSVN is to allow anyone who can authenticate. According to the WebSVN documentation, the best way around this is to use subversion's path access system, so I looked to create this, using the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. When I do this though, I keep getting "403 Forbidden" messages. My files look like the following: I have default policy settings in a file: <Location /svn/> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository Order deny,allow Deny from all </Location> Each repository gets a policy file like below: <Location /svn/sysadmin/> Include /var/lib/svn/conf/default_auth.conf AuthName "Repository for sysadmin" require user joebloggs jimsmith mickmurphy </Location> The default_auth.conf file contains this: SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository AuthType basic AuthUserFile /var/lib/svn/conf/.dav_svn.passwd AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/lib/svn/conf/svnaccess.conf I am not fully sure why I need the second SVNParentPath in default_auth.conf, but I just added that today as I was getting error messages as a result of adding the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. With a totally permissive access file [/] joebloggs = rw the system worked fine (and was essentially unchanged), but as I soon as I start trying to add any kind of restrictions such as [sysadmin:/] joebloggs = rw instead, I get the 'Permission denied' errors again. The log file entries are: [Thu May 28 10:40:17 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET websvn:/ [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET svn:/sysadmin What do I need to do to get this to work? Have configured apache wrong, or is my understanding of the svnaccess.conf file incorrect? If I am going about this the wrong way, I have no particular attachment to my overall approach, so feel free to offer alternatives as well. UPDATE (20090528-1600): I attempted to implement this answer, but I still cannot get it to work properly. I know most of the configuration is correct, as I have added [/] joebloggs = rw at the start and 'joebloggs' then has all the correct access. When I try to go repository-specific though, doing something like [/] joebloggs = rw [sysadmin:/] mickmurphy = rw then I got a permission denied error for mickmurphy (joebloggs still works), with an error similar to what I already had previously [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'mickmurphy' GET svn:/sysadmin Also, I forgot to explain previously that all my repositories are underneath /var/lib/svn/repository UPDATE (20090529-1245): Still no luck getting this to work, but all the signs seem to be pointing to the issue being with path-access control in subversion not working properly. • How to utilize network for p2p file sharing on Android Platform?

  I'm working on some apps for the android platform and I have two problems that I'm not quite sure how to approach, and both are closely related. How can I send a relatively small data file from one android device to another (preferably over the internet or directly through wireless network)? Is it possible to create a temporary p2p live data stream from one android device to another? An example application would be to stream low-res video from phone A's camera to phone B, or audio. I would much appreciate being pointed in the right direction on either issue (File transfer or real time data transfer).

• internet explorer 7 iframe unloads when going back

  Hi this is my first post here, so please be kind ;-) i'm implementing a browser history manager, just like rsh or yui browser history manager. The idea was not to constantly poll the url hash of a hidden iframe, but to capture the onscroll event of an iframe, when it scrolls to an anchor name on an urlhashchange. So on every click i add an new anchor to iframe and set the iframe's hash to the anchors name. When pressing the back or forward button the frame scrolls to the previous or next anchor and the onscroll event is fired. That works great on firefox 3.0+, IE6 and Opera but on IE7 when hiting the back button the frame unloads and loses all its anchors. • XP User account cannot write to USB

  Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.

  Hi, I have an observable collection implemented in my user control which indicates states of a device. Based on the collection change, the user control is to trigger animations(subscribe to collectionchanged event). The observable collection is implemented as a dependency property. In the application, I data bind the device states to the user control observableCollection using one-way databinding. When a new state is added in the application, I can see the ObservableCollection in the user control is updated. However, the CollectionChanged event never got fired, so no animations. Does anyone has an idea why this is so? Thank you in advance.

  I have created a standalone executable JAR program that needs to send private information over a SSL connection. I was not able to establish the SSL connection using certificates. Was getting this: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path `building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target` So I found some code somewhere that creates a trust manager that does not validate certificate chains: // Create a trust manager that does not validate certificate chains TrustManager[] trustAllCerts = new TrustManager[]{ new X509TrustManager() { public java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] getAcceptedIssuers() { return null; } public void checkClientTrusted( java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) { } public void checkServerTrusted( java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) { } } }; That did the trick and I was able to establish SSL connection without any certificates. My concern is if the data will still be encrypted when exchanging private information. This is an execute JAR file that clients will be downloading to their computers. So is a certificate really necessary for this case? Thanks.

• OpenGL extensions available on different Android devices

  I'm in the process of writing an OpenGL ES powered framework for my next Android game(s). Currently I'm supporting three different techniques of drawing sprites: the basic way: using vertex arrays (slow) using vertex-buffer-objects (VBOs) (faster) using the draw_texture extension (fastest, but only for basic sprites, i.e. no transforming) Vertex arrays are supported in OpenGL ES 1.0 and thus in every Android-device. I'm guessing most (if not all) of the current devices also support VBOs and draw_texture. Instead of guessing, I'd like to know the extensions supported by different devices. If majority of devices support VBOs, I could simplify my code and focus only on VBOs + draw_texture. It'd be helpful to know what different devices support, so if you have an Android-device, do report the extensions list please. :) String extensions = gl.glGetString(GL10.GL_EXTENSIONS); I've got a HTC Hero, so I can share those extensions next.

• iphone Memory gets freed in debug mode but not in release mode

  I have been testing my iPhone debug build on both my device and simulator with activity monitor, leaks, and object allocations. The code is pretty well optimized so I have decided to test the release build. I went into the project Menu and set the target build to be release, I then added the necessary header paths that my app is using to the headers search paths and ran the release build on the device with the above mentioned instruments. What I have noticed now is that memory that was freed when I used the debug build does not get freed when using release version. There is one place in my App that I remove a scroll view with some images which frees up a significant amount of memory when I use the debug build, but no memory is freed up in that place when I use the release version. Does someone have any ideas where I need to start looking at? did I setup my release build wrong?

I have a stable USB Listing method that accesses all my USB devices I get the devicepath, and this structure: TSPDevInfoData = packed record Size: DWORD; ClassGuid: TGUID; DevInst: DWORD; // DEVINST handle Reserved: DWord; end; I get my ProductID and VenderID successfully from my DevicePath Lists all USB devices connected to the computer at the time That enables me to access the registry data to each device in a stable way. What I'm lacking is a little direction Is friendly name able to be written inside the connected USB Micro chips by the firmware programmer? (I'm thinking of this to identify the device even further, or is this to help identify Bulk data transfer devices like memory sticks and camera's) Can I use SPDRP_REMOVAL_POLICY_OVERRIDE to some how reset these polices What else can I do with the registry details. Identifying when some one unplugs a device The program is using (in windows XP standard) I used a documented windows event that did not respond. Can I read a registry value to identify if its still connected? using CreateFileA (DevicePath) to send and receive data I have read when some one unplugs in the middle of a data transfer its difficult clearing resources. what can IoCreateDevice do for me and how does one use it for that task This two way point of connection status and system lock up situations is very concerning. Has some one read anything about this subject recently? My objectives are to 1. list connected USB devices identify a in development Micro Controller from everything else send and receive data in a stable and fast way to the limits of the controller No lock up's transferring data Note I'm not using any service packs I understand everything USB is in ANSI when windows xp is not and .Net is all about ANSI (what a waste of memory) I plan to continue this project into a .net at a later date as an addition. MSDN gives me Structures and Functions and what should link to what ok but say little to what they get used for. What is available in my language Delphi is way over priced that it needs a major price drop.

• AVAudioRecorder prepareToRecord works, but record fails

  I just built and tested a basic AVAudioRecorder/AVAudioPlayer sound recorder and player. Eventually I got this working on the device, as well as the simulator. My player/recorder code is in a single UIView subclass. Unfortunately, when I copy the class into my main project, it no longer works (on the device--the simulator is fine). prepareToRecord is working fine, but record isn't. • Is there a scheduling algorithm that optimizes for "maker's schedules"?

  You may be familiar with Paul Graham's essay, "Maker's Schedule, Manager's Schedule". The crux of the essay is that for creative and technical professionals, meetings are anathema to productivity, because they tend to lead to "schedule fragmentation", breaking up free time into chunks that are too small to acquire the focus needed to solve difficult problems. In my firm we've seen significant benefits by minimizing the amount of disruption caused, but the brute-force algorithm we use to decide schedules is not sophisticated enough to handle scheduling large groups of people well. (*) What I'm looking for is if there's are any well-known algorithms which minimize this productivity disruption, among a group of N makers and managers. In our model, There are N people. Each person pi is either a maker (Mk) or a manager (Mg). Each person has a schedule si. Everyone's schedule is H hours long. A schedule consists of a series of non-overlapping intervals si = [h1, ..., hj]. An interval is either free or busy. Two adjacent free intervals are equivalent to a single free interval that spans both. A maker's productivity is maximized when the number of free intervals is minimized. A manager's productivity is maximized when the total length of free intervals is maximized. Notice that if there are no meetings, both the makers and the managers experience optimum productivity. If meetings must be scheduled, then makers prefer that meetings happen back-to-back, while managers don't care where the meeting goes. Note that because all disruptions are treated as equally harmful to makers, there's no difference between a meeting that lasts 1 second and a meeting that lasts 3 hours if it segments the available free time. The problem is to decide how to schedule M different meetings involving arbitrary numbers of the N people, where each person in a given meeting must place a busy interval into their schedule such that it doesn't overlap with any other busy interval. For each meeting Mt the start time for the busy interval must be the same for all parties. Does an algorithm exist to solve this problem or one similar to it? My first thought was that this looks really similar to defragmentation (minimize number of distinct chunks), and there are a lot of algorithms about that. But defragmentation doesn't have much to do with scheduling. Thoughts? (*) Practically speaking this is not really a problem, because it's rare that we have meetings with more than ~5 people at once, so the space of possibilities is small.

• EMC/Legato/Networker Failed to recover files : Cross Platform Recovery not supported.

  Software used to backup: EMC / Legato Networker legato server : windows legato clients: same hardware (2 years ago fedora something , now ubuntu ) Trying to recover from an old client, which is no longer available. So this is the thing. On 07/20/2008 we backed up a samba server(fedora something) to a tape , setting 1 year as browse policy and retention policy. Now this tape is recyclable. We took down the dns name. We deleted the legato client configuration. That legato client was reinstalled and is doing other stuff on ubuntu 10.04, with a different name but same ip. Now, 2 years and some month later #### Now we need to recover a folder from 2008 backup, on the fedora-samba-server. First thing, legato does not show the client name because the config was deleted. We create it again. We just set the old dns back on track, pointing the same ip, where the old server was, same MAC address ;). We created a new 'old client configuration' pointing to the new server. (different legato ip for client "I suppose" ) The ssid where the needed folder is on 2 tapes, 20 and 22. The index for that backup is on tape 21. We put this tapes on the jukebox (IBMT4000) -- not important for the issue -- All three tapes expired its browsable and recoverable time. So they are on recyclable. We get the clone id from the ssid with following command: mminfo -avot -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r cloneid We set the tapes to notrecyclable nsrmm -S <ssid>/<cloneid> -o notrecyclable We change the retention for the tapes for a future date nsrmm -S <ssid> -e 01/20/2011 We check the dates are correct : mminf -avV -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r ssbrowse(26),ssretent(26),savetime So far its OK. We close the terminal. Restart the server, just for being sure. Finally, we recover the index for that ssid where the folder should be. nsrck -L7 -t "07/20/2008" oldservername.domain.org There, we open the Networker User, select the server, select the old client as source, select the new client as destination.   I need help to find a tutorial or anything to help me create a comparison chart. The user is able to search for device names. The information about the device names is in a drop down box dynamically added from the database. I want the user to be able to select two separate devices and view the devices information plotted onto a graph. I'll be grateful for keywords that I can search for or any tutorials that will help me to carry on with this task. Currently on my screen I can see the data that has been inserted into the database. This data is placed inside a table. I have so far used xhtml, php and mysql. I've tried to make the question as clear as possible so sorry if it does confuse anyone.
