    I would like to set the width and the height of the div element dynamically using jQuery. I was trying to replace <div id="mainTable" style="width:100px; height:200px;"></div> with this: $("#mainTable").css("width", "100"); $("#mainTable").css("height", "200"); but, it does not work for me. Please help to understand why.

  • How can I use Perl to grab text from a web page that is dynamically generated with JavaScript?

    There is a website I am trying to pull information from in Perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is: <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using Perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it!     I am working on a search box that displays different options based on a users selection via dropdown box. Basically I need a really clean, light-weight method for switching out different divs without reloading the page. Im new to JS, but I know enough that there should be some really simple way of setting the display property using JS - Im just not totally sure how to go about it.   • PhpBB3: adding background to specific php generated text input without affecting the other text inputs

    I have created a custom PhpBB3 style and desperately since a few hours tried to add a background image to a specific comment text area. With firebug I checked if the comment text area had a class and it does, so I tried some css variations and finally tried: sn-inputComment { background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/pencil.png") repeat-x left top #FFFFFF;} { I also tried to find and manipulate the php generated text area but no success. Non of my methods worked. I will provide you all with a tinylink url to my forum with a test user and password access. User: test Password: 123456 url: http://tinyurl.com/9yqpxdb Now when you are logged in you should be redirected to the correct url and you will see a a few text boxes with "Write a comment...". I would be very happy if you could tell me what I did wrong, why im not able to add a background to the text input without having my search boxes and "what is on your mind box" affected.   • Change the colors of JvectorMap when there are 2 maps on the page

    i am using Jvectormap to place 2 maps on my page. the maps are placed normally and everything is fine. they are placed in 2 different divs: <div id="map1"> </div> <div id="map2"> </div> and the Jquery: $(function () { $('#map1').vectorMap({ color: '#aaaaaa', backgroundColor: '#ffffff', hoverOpacity: 1, hoverColor: true }); }); $(function () { $('#map2').vectorMap({ color: '#aaaaaa', backgroundColor: '#ffffff', hoverOpacity: 1, }); }); Now when I try to change the colors of map2 dynamically using: $("#map2").vectorMap("set", "colors", colorsDictionnary); The colors of the first one only is changed. and this happens only when changing colors. Always the first one have it's colors changed even if I am using $("#map2") How can change the colors of the map2 without touching map1? Thank you very much for any help, I really need it

    Hi all, I face issue with retrieving (via javascript) width of the div which content is changed (just before reading the widht via offsetWidth) in dynamic way (via changing innerHTML or using createTextNode).   • Multiple use of a form before it is submitted

    I'm new to JavaScript, and trying to figure out the canonical way to do the following. I have a form with some checkboxes and a selector. Let's say the checkboxes are styles of music and the selector is for people's names. I'd like the user to be able to select the styles of music for each of the people's names and then submit the form with all of the data. For example, the user might first check off Classical, Jazz, Rock, and Pop and choose "Joe", then select Jazz, Pop, Country, and Electronica and choose "Jane". So there would have to be two different buttons for "submit person" and "submit form". I would like to: Have a list of the names and their chosen styles populate below the form, for feedback Allow the user to use the form as much as they want, and then submit all the data at the end I get the feeling that using jquery and JSON is perfect for this, but I'm not sure what search terminology to use to figure out how to do this. If it matters, the form will be processed by a Django view in Python.

    I want my webpage to have two parts. The top part has a textbox. When the user types a URL into the textbox, the bottom part browses to the content of that URL. When the user clicks a link within the bottom part, the bottom part navigates to the new URL, and the textbox in the top part changes to the new URL. How can I do it? NOTE: This behavior is the same as in Google Translate (e.g. here), but without any translation.

  • Strange CSS Positioning issue with a fader on a responsive site

    I'm developing a prototype responsive wordpress theme version of my homepage. I'm running into issues with the fader on the homepage. http://dev.epicwebdesign.ca/epicblog/ When the image switches, it uses position:absolute to overlay the pictures, then goes back to position:relative. I need to make the absolute be relative to the bottom left corner of the menu instead of the top left corner of #wrap so it doesn't overlap. I tried putting it in a container div like this: http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/contributor-guide/browser#TOC-Absolutely-positioned-box-inside-a-box-with-overflow:-auto-or-hidden but that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? There are major CSS compatibility issues in IE, try it in chrome. It should look similar to http://epicwebdesign.ca. When the browser window is shrunk horizontially, the whole theme compensates.

  • Is it bad to have the <link> tag for hCard when there is no hCard on that page?

    I'm just wondering if it is bad practice to put the <link> tag for hCard profile on every page, if you don't know that the page being rendered has an hCard. My site has hCards - is it worth trimming the link tag out of the pages that don't have them? <link rel="profile" href="http://microformats.org/profile/hcard"> Does this mean this page has an hCard or look for an hCard on this page? Does it mean interpret an hCard as specified, if found? Obviously, you can pull in stylesheets using <link> but they apply to the page. I don't even see anything at that destination other than some sub-par hCard documentation.

  • Overlapping images w/ image maps obstructing each other

    Information: The images have large transparent sections, so each must be overlapped to create the needed effect. Specifically, the clickable portions of each image are in weird trapezoid shapes meant to be pressed up against each other. Images have image maps with large portions being overlapped by the transparent portions of other nearby (trapezoid) images. I don't expect any change in z indexes will solve this... Combining the image files into a larger single one to overlay a single image map for each section seems less than ideal, especially since I may need to re-order or rename them later and such. Never mind hover animations and other possibilities down the road. What would be the best workaround?

    In Javascript code, I would like to programmatically cause the browser to follow a link that's on my page. Simple case: <a id="foo" href="mailto:[email protected]">something</a> function goToBar() { $('#foo').trigger('follow'); } This is hypothetical as it doesn't actually work. And no, triggering click doesn't do it. I am aware of window.location and window.open but these differ from native link-following in some ways that matter to me: a) in the presence of a <base /> element, and b) in the case of mailto URLs. The latter in particular is significant. In Firefox at least, calling window.location.href = "mailto:[email protected]" causes the window's unload handlers to fire, whereas simply clicking a mailto link does not, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for a way to trigger the browser's default handling of links, from Javascript code. Does such a mechanism exist? Toolkit-specific answers also welcome (especially for Gecko).

  • How can I highlight the line of text that is closest to the mouse?

    I have a long text and I'd like to offer the user a reading help: The current line should be highlighted. To make it easier, I'll just use the Y coordinate of the mouse (this way, the mouse pointer isn't going to get in the way). I have a big DIV with the id content which fills the whole width and a small DIV with the class content for the text (see here for an example). I'm using jQuery 1.4. How can I highlight the line of text that is closest to the current mouse position?
