MySQL uses the USE database_name to change the active database. Does that work on all databases?
EDIT: By databases I mean DBMS. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I am using CakePHP for a price-comparison website.
I have a table products with fields: id, pride_regular, price_action.
I would like to combine the fields price_regular and price_action into a dynamic field: price. The lowest value of these two fields should be the value of the new price field. Also I want to order on it Ascending.
Should I use a custom MySQL-query?

Ok, so title says it all. Of course, I store all players' ip addresses in mysql and I can check if there is a person with the same ip address before he registers, but then, he can register to my page at school or wherever he wants. So, any suggestions?
Hi, I have a mysql table that I need to only contain 20 newest records before adding additional records.
New rows are added daily so I would like it first delete any records that are greater than the 20 allowed starting with the earliest.
The table contains an auto increment "id" column so I can easily determine which is the earliest records.
Thanks for any help.
I have a mysql database that stores quotation documents with some products that are clearly defining the price of each product in them, and a table for contracts storing contract details as well as customer code and quotation code to which it belongs. I have the following query to see how much is the total price of the quotation to write it in the invoice:
select
sum(sqproducts.price * sqproducts.quantity) as 'total-price',
squotations.currency as 'currency'
from
sqproducts,
ccontracts,
squotations
where
sqproducts.contracted=1
AND squotations.code=sqproducts.quotation_code
AND sqproducts.quotation_code=ccontracts.squotation_code
AND sqproducts.quotation_code='QUOT/2012/1'
group by
currency

Right now on my (beta) site i have a table called user data which stores name, hash(password), ipaddr, sessionkey, email and message number. Now i would like the user to have a profile description, signature, location (optional) and maybe other things. Should i have this in a separate mysql table? or should i share the table? and why?
I have test_scores table with following fields:
Table schema:
id (number)
score1 (number)
score2 (number)
score3 (number)
score4 (number)
Sample data:
id score1 score2 score3 score4
1 10 05 30 50
2 05 15 10 00
3 25 10 05 15
Expected result set:
id col_name col_value
1 score4 50
2 score2 15
3 score1 25
What is a good SQL for this?(I am using MySQL.)
I have this weird situation:
When I do on rails console Time.now or Time.zone.now I get the same values (suppose they run at the sime time: 2014-06-05 23:38:06 -0300)
But when I use Time.now in a query like: Match.where("datetime = ?", Time.now) it returns the time 3 hours ahead!
.to_sql output:
SELECT `matches`.* FROM `matches` WHERE (datetime = '2014-06-06 02:38:06')
any thoughts on that?

hey, i want to format a date in mysql using
DATE_FORMAT(tblnews.datead, '%M %e, %Y, %l:%i%p')
i cant seem to get the quotes right , so i keep getting errors. how would you put this in a query?
I'm using Mysql 5.1, and have this query, is there a way to not use the subqueries and accomplish the same result?
SELECT oref.affiliate_id, ROUND(sum( oph.amount ) * 0.10 ,2) AS tsum
FROM operators_referer AS oref
LEFT JOIN operators_payments_history AS oph
ON oref.operator_id = oph.operator_id
WHERE oref.affiliate_id = 28221
AND
(
oph.date_paid >
(
SELECT MAX(aph.date_paid)
FROM affiliates_payments_history AS aph
WHERE aph.operator_id = oref.affiliate_id
)
OR
(
SELECT MAX(aph.date_paid)
FROM affiliates_payments_history AS aph
WHERE aph.operator_id = oref.affiliate_id
)
is NULL

Hi.
I'm about to develop a small web gallery, where it's supposed to be possible to upload several pictures at a time and then add some info abut the pictures. So I need a free java or flash local file browser that can pass me some info of the pictures that gets uploaded so that I can create some SQL entries for each picture.
The platform for the project will be PHP and MySQL.
Any good recommendations?
For the first time, I'm creating a Java Swing application.
I'm using Windows Builder Pro in Eclipse, and a MySQL database (already setup up).
Let's say I have a combo box, and I want (for instance) all 'name' fields from a 'certain' table appear.
How can I setup that binding? I know how to programatically handle the connection and query code, what I would like to know is how to make that binding in Eclipse.
I wish to change the primary key of a table, and also change the foreign key of the tables that reference it.
for example table employee has PK idEmployee = 1
table payroll has FK idEmployee = 1
I want to update employee to idEmployee = 2 and let the table payroll change FK idEmployee automatically.
is this posible in mysql?
thanks.
sorry if this is a repeat, i looked around some and didnt find what i was after so here goes
SELECT * FROM trees WHERE trees.`title` LIKE '%elm%'
this works fine, but not if the tree is named Elm or ELM ect... how do i make sql case insensitive for this wild-card search?
again apologies if this is repeated.
oh, using MySql 5 on apache
How would I go around creating a MYSQL table schema inspecting an Excel(or CSV) file.
Are there any ready Python libraries for the task?
Column headers would be sanitized to column names. Datatype would be estimated based on the contents of the spreadsheet column. When done, data would be loaded to the table.
I have an Excel file of ~200 columns that I want to start normalizing.

Is there a clean way of cloning a record in SQL that has an index(auto increment). I want to clone all the fields except the index. I currently have to enumerate every field, and use that in an insert select, and I would rather not explicitly list all of the fields, as they may change over time.
I am currently working with User objects -- each of which have many Goal objects. The Goal objects are not User specific, that is, Users can share the same Goal. I am attempting to fashion a way to calculate a "similarity percentage" between two Users... (i.e., taking into account how many Goals they share as well as how many Goals they do not share) Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? I am using Grails with Mysql if that is helpful.
Thanks
I would to be a PHP/Mysql Programmer

I use MySQL and it gives no meaningful error messages beyond "syntax wrong close to something or other". This is in sharp contrast to the sort of nice, clear error messages we are used to getting from java compiler and similar. So, are there RDBMS or sql validation tools that provide clearer, meaningful error messages?
