• Translate SQL statement into named_scope?

- by keruilin
How can I translate this SQL into a named_scope? Also, I want the total comments param to be passed through a lambda. "select users., count() as total_comments from users, comments where (users.id = comments.user_id) and (comments.public_comment = 1) and (comments.aasm_state = 'posted') and (comments.forum_user_id is null) group by users.id having total_comments 25"

• Excluding a folder from autotesting

- by gmile
I've just installed a ZenTest to use autotest in my project. I use rspec and have an integration folder inside it. As I don't want all my integration tests run every single time I start autospec , so I'd like to somehow restrict autospec from running tests in that folder. How do I exclude a chosen folder inside a /spec from running by autotest?

• How to add additional condition to the JOIN generated by include?

- by KandadaBoggu
I want to add additional criteria to the LEFT OUTER JOIN generated by the :include option in ActiveRecord finder. class Post has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :post has_many :comment_votes end class CommentVote belongs_to :comment end Now lets say I want to find last 10 posts with their associated comments and the up comment votes. Post.find.all(:limit => 10, :order => "created_at DESC", :include => [{:comments => :comment_votes]) I cant add the condition to check for up votes as it will ignore the posts without the up votes. So the condition has to go the ON clause of the JOIN generated for the comment_votes. I am wishing for a syntax such as: Post.find.all(:limit => 10, :order => "created_at DESC", :include => [{:comments => [:comment_votes, :on => "comment_votes.vote > 0"]) Have you faced such problems before? Did you managed to solve the problem using the current finder? I hope to hear some interesting ideas from the community. PS: I can write a join SQL to get the expected result and stitch the results together. I want to make sure there is no other alternative before going down that path.

Any ideas why this is?

• Creating dynamic resource in cookbook

- by zsong
Long story short, here is my code: template "...." do .... notifies :restart,"service[myservice_One]" notifies :restart,"service[myservice_Two]" end ['One', 'Two'].each do |proj| service 'myservice_#{proj}' do start_command "setsid /etc/init.d/my_command #{proj} start" stop_command "setsid /etc/init.d/my_command #{proj} stop" restart_command "setsid /etc/init.d/my_command #{proj} restart" status_command "setsid /etc/init.d/my_command #{proj} status" supports :status => true, :restart => true action [:enable,:start] end end I got this error: template[...] is configured to notify resource service[celery_worker_One] with action restart, but service[celery_worker_One] cannot be found in the resource collection. I know I can duplicate my code to make it work but how to dynamically create the services? Thanks!

• Can a rake task know about the other tasks in the invocation chain?

- by andrewdotnich
Rake (like make) is able to have many targets/tasks specified on invocation. Is it possible for a rake task to access the list of tasks the user invoked, in order to do its job? Scenario: Consider a Rake-based build tool. A help task would like to know what tasks were also specified in order to print their usage and halt the build process. The benefit of this as opposed to rake-style parameter passing are cleaner syntax (rake help build instead of rake help task=build) and chaining (rake help build run_tests would print usage for both).

• How do I do a count on that meet a specific condition, dependent on several has_many relationships i

- by Angela
I have a Model Campaign. A Campaign has many Events. Each Event has an attribute :days. A Campaign also has_many Contacts. Each Contact as a :date_entered attribute. The from_today(contact,event) method returns a number, which is the number of days from the contact's :date_entered till today minus the event's :days. In other words, a positive number shows the number of days from today till the :days of the event is elapsed. If it is negative, if means that the number of days that has elapsed since the :date_entered is greater than the :days attribute of an event. In other words, the event is overdue. What I would like to be able to do is do campaign.overdue and this would result in a total number of contacts that have an overdue event. It shouldn't count multiple events for a single contact, just one contact. How do I do that? It seems like I would need to cycle through all the events for every contact and keep a counter but I'm assuming that there is a better way.

• how to model editing of multiple related resources on the same webpage?

- by amikazmi
Lets say we have a Company model, that has many Employees And has many Projects If we want to show the projects, we'll go to "/company/1/projects/index" If we want to edit 1 project, we'll go to "/company/1/projects/1/edit" What if we want to edit all the projects at once on the same webpage? We can go to "/company/1/edit" and put a nested forms for all the projects But what if we need a different webpage to edit all the employees at once too? We can't use "/company/1/edit" again.. Right now we do "/company/1/projects/multiedit", "/company/1/projects/multupdate"- but as you can see, it's not rest. How can we model this restfully?

• Problem in mutiple :dependent=> :destroy when multiple polymorphic is true

- by piemesons
I have four models question, answer, comment and vote.Consider it same as stackoverflow. Question has_many comments Answers has_many comments Questions has_many votes answers has_many votes comments has_many votes Here are the models (only relevant things) class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :commentable, :polymorphic => true has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy end class Question < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments, :as => :commentable, :dependent => :destroy has_many :answers, :dependent => :destroy has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy end class Vote < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :votable, :polymorphic => true end class Answer < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :question, :counter_cache => true has_many :comments, :as => :commentable , :dependent => :destroy end Now the problem is whenever i am trying to delete any question/answer/comment its giving me an error NoMethodError in QuestionsController#destroy undefined method `each' for 0:Fixnum if i remove this line from any of the model (question/answer/comment) has_many :votes, :as => :votable, :dependent => :destroy then it works perfectly. It seems there is a problem while deleting the records active record is not able to find out the proper path because of multiple joins within the tables.

• How can I keep a div's scrollbar at the bottom of the div using jQuery?

- by dannytatom
I have a div called #output, styled with overflow: scroll;. Using jQuery.ajax, it's being updated every x second. I'd like to have it so that when the scrollbar appears (after the divs filled up), it should continously stay at the bottom of the div instead of the top, like most chat clients do. I'm sure there's a way to do this, I just can't seem to find it. Here's the Sass #output :margin 0 0 10px 0 :padding 10px :height 500px :overflow scroll :background #111111 :border 1px solid #000000 :color #8e8e8e and the Haml is just a simple #output = @output

• validation before ajax form submission

- by ZX12R
How do i introduce validation before remote_form_for submits? I have javascript function called validateForm(). I am able to call it before the AJAX request process. I tried to use return false and event.preventDefault. But there seems to be no effect. Here is what my code looks like <% remote_form_for :customer, :update =>"uxScreenLoaderDiv", :url => {:action => "login", :controller => "site"}, :html => {:id => "uxLoginForm"}, :onsubmit => "validateForm(event)" do |f| %> User name : <%= f.text_field "uxUserName", :class => "TextBox", :style => "width:100px;" %> * Password : <%= f.password_field "uxPassword", :class => "TextBox", :style => "width:100px;" %> * <%= f.submit "Go!", :class => "Button-Simple", :id => "uxSubmitButton" %> <% end %> the javascript function is simple as follows function validateForm(event){ return false; //event.preventDefault(); }

• class method as hash value

- by demas
I have this working code: class Server def handle(&block) @block = block end def do @block.call end end class Client def initialize @server = Server.new @server.handle { action } end def action puts "some" end def call_server @server.do end end client = Client.new client.call_server My Server will handle more then one action so I want to change code such way: class Server def handle(options) @block = options[:on_filter] end def do @block.call end end class Client def initialize @server = Server.new my_hash = { :on_filter => action } @server.handle(my_hash) end def action puts "some" end def call_server @server.do end end client = Client.new client.call_server It is incorrect code because action() method calls on create my_hash, but if I try to modify code to: my_hash = { :on_filter => { action } } i get error message. Is it possible to create hash with methods as hash values ?

• Adding additional sorting attributes to array of records...then sorting!

- by keruilin
Let's say I run an ActiveRecord query and it returns 3 results, with a bunch of attributes. I want to add 3 attributes to each record in the Array so I can do sorting at a code-level. These 3 include: num_comments, num_views, last_view. How do I add these attributes? How do I then sort the records, in order of precendence, by num_comments AND by num_views AND by last_view?

• jQuery get request against Sinatra does not get text

- by jerhinesmith
I have a very simple sinatra site that I'm trying to access via ajax through jQuery. To keep things incredibly simple, this code snippet: get '/behavior_count' do "60" end which returns "60" in the browser, shows up as an empty string when attempting to access the site via $.get in jQuery. The strange part is in Firebug, while the Response is empty, the HTTP header correctly describes Content-Length as 2, and I can see the request show up on the server. Is there something specific to Sinatra that isn't returning my data, or am I not using jQuery correctly? If it helps, I also tried this code: get '/behavior_count' do content_type 'text/plain', :charset => 'utf-8' "60" end and my jQuery looks like $.get('http://mysite:4567/behavior_count'); // Ignore the response, but // watch the request in firebug Any ideas?

• How to scale thumbnail to fit depending on tall or wide photo - Attachment_fu

- by adamwstl
I'm using attachment_fu and Rmagick to create thumbnails after upload. The thumbnail is a fixed 135 x 135 px and I'm currently forcing the width to 135px on all photos. The problem is that if it's a wide and fat photo is has to stretch the height awkwardly. Current Attachment_fu setup class PhotoImage < Image belongs_to :photo has_attachment :content_type => :image, :size => 0..5.megabytes, :storage => :s3, :resize_to => '650x>', :thumbnails => { :thumbnail => '135x>' }#:geometry => 'x50' } validates_as_attachment end Here's what I'm trying to do: Thanks

• How to create a subject helper method in Rspec2

• How can I rename by CarrierWave file versions?

- by AKWF
Upon the uploading of an image in my application, 4 different sizes are created and saved using CarrierWaves version functionality. However, I am converting all of these versions to JPEG. The source file that is uploaded remains unchanged. So I can upload a TIFF file, and CarrierWave will create :large, :medium, :small, and :thumb versions. My problem is that these files all still end in .tif. Yet they are indeed JPEG files, as I've verified this with the file command. How can I write the filenames correctly for each version, and ensure that CarrierWave will report each version's name correctly?

• Mixing has_one and has_and_belongs_to_many associations

- by Thomas
I'm trying to build a database of urls(links). I have a Category model that has and belongs to many Links. Here's the migration I ran: class CreateLinksCategories < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :links_categories, :id => false do |t| t.references :link t.references :category end end def self.down drop_table :links_categories end end Here's the Link model: class Link < ActiveRecord::Base validates :path, :presence => true, :format => { :with => /^(#{URI::regexp(%w(http https))})$|^$/ } validates :name, :presence => true has_one :category end Here's the category model: class Category < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :links end And here's the error the console kicked back when I tried to associate the first link with the first category: >>link = Link.first => #<Link id: 1, path: "http://www.yahoo.com", created_at: "2011-01-10... >>category = Category.first => #<category id : 1, name: "News Site", created_at: "2011-01-11... >>link.category << category => ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: SQLite3::Exception: no such column : categories.link_id: Are my associations wrong or am I missing something in the database? I expected it to find the links_categories table. Any help is appreciated.
