• What is causing my spacebar to randomly stop working?

  A couple of times a day, I'll be typing something and realise I can't type spaces. Usually the cursor will flicker instead when I press the spacebar, and I can type all other letters as far as I can tell. If I'm in a terminal the cursor turns from a solid square to an empty square until I release the spacebar. For some reason, restarting compiz with alt-F2 compiz fixes it, until it next occurs. I can still copy and paste spaces from sources that already have them, and I can still insert spaces with ctrl-shift-u, 20, enter. This has been happening for a while, since before I upgraded to maverick, but it feels like its beceoming more frequent. There really doesn't seem to be any kind of a pattern to it. I'm using 64 bit ubuntu 10.10 on a system76 panp7 laptop. Any ideas how I might troubleshoot? I have a hot corner which initiates a window picker, and I've customised the window picking so that left click goes to a window, right click closes one and spacebar zooms in on one. When I go to this hot corner, compiz must take control of my spacebar, and clearly isn't giving it back when I leave the window picker. So I'll be filing a bug against compiz. reported:here

• Fast Data: Go Big. Go Fast.

Joe Tucci, from EMC outlined the human face of big data with real examples of how big data is transforming our world. And no not the usual tried-and-true weblog examples, but real stories about taxi cab drivers in Singapore using big data to better optimize their routes as well as folks just trying to get a better hair cut. Next we heard from Thomas Kurian who talked at length about the important platform characteristics of Oracle’s Cloud and more specifically Oracle’s expanded Cloud Services portfolio. Especially interesting to our integration customers are the messaging support for Oracle’s Cloud applications. What this means is that now Oracle’s Cloud applications have a lightweight integration fabric that on-premise applications can communicate to it via REST-APIs using Oracle SOA Suite. It’s an important element to our strategy at Oracle that supports this idea that whether your requirements are for private or public, Oracle has a solution in the Cloud for all of your applications and we give you more deployment choice than any vendor. If this wasn’t enough to get the juices flowing, later that morning we heard from Hasan Rizvi who outlined in his Fusion Middleware session the four most important enterprise imperatives: Social, Mobile, Cloud, and a brand new one: Fast Data. Today, Rizvi made an important step in the definition of this term to explain that he believes it’s a convergence of four essential technology elements: Event Processing for event filtering, business rules – with Oracle Event Processing Data Transformation and Loading - with Oracle Data Integrator Real-time replication and integration – with Oracle GoldenGate Analytics and data discovery – with Oracle Business Intelligence Each of these four elements can be considered (and architect-ed) together on a single integrated platform that can help customers integrate any type of data (structured, semi-structured) leveraging new styles of big data technologies (MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, NoSQL) to process more volume and variety of data at a faster velocity with greater results.  Fast data processing (and especially real-time) has always been our credo at Oracle with each one of these products in Fusion Middleware. For example, Oracle GoldenGate continues to be made even faster with the recent 11g R2 Release of Oracle GoldenGate which gives us some even greater optimization to Oracle Database with Integrated Capture, as well as some new heterogeneity capabilities.   Hey guys I am creating a game using Corona SDK and so coding it in Lua. So there are 2 separate functions, To translate the hit objects and change their color when they are tapped The link below is the code I am using to for the first function http://developer.anscamobile.com/sample-code/fishies Spawn objects that will hit the translating objects on collision. Alos on collision the spawned object disappears and the translating object bears a color(indicating the collision). In addition the size of this spawned object is dependent on i/p volume level. • What is a good design model for my new class?

  I am a beginning programmer who, after trying to manage over 2000 lines of procedural php code, now has discovered the value of OOP. I have read a few books to get me up to speed on the beginning theory, but would like some advice on practical application. So,for example, let's say there are two types of content objects - an ad and a calendar event. what my application does is scan different websites (a predefined list), and, when it finds an ad or an event, it extracts the data and saves it to a database. All of my objects will share a $title and $description. However, the Ad object will have a $price and the Event object will have $startDate. Should I have two separate classes, one for each object? Should I have a 'superclass' with the $title and $description with two other Ad and Event classes with their own properties? The latter is at least the direction I am on now. My second question about this design is how to handle the logic that extracts the data for $title, $description, $price, and $date. For each website in my predefined list, there is a specific regex that returns the desired value for each property. Currently, I have an extremely large switch statement in my constructor which determines what website I am own, sets the regex variables accordingly, and continues on. Not only that, but now I have to repeat the logic to determine what site I am on in the constructor of each class. This doesn't feel right. Should I create another class Algorithms and store the logic there for each site? Should the functions of to handle that logic be in this class? or specific to the classes whos properties they set? I want to take into account in my design two things: 1) I will add different content objects in the future that share $title and $description, but will have their own properties, so, I want to be able to easily grow these as needed. 2) I will add more websites constantly (each with their own algorithms for data extraction) so I would like to plan efficienty managing and working with these now. I thought about extending the Ad or Event class with 'websiteX' class and store its functions there. But, this didn't feel right either as now I have to manage 100s of little website specific class files. Note, I didn't know if this was the correct site or stackoverflow was the better choice. If so, let me know and I'll post there.

• Custom model in ASP.NET MVC controller: Custom display message for Date DataType

  Hi I have an ASP.NET MVC Page that i have to display the fields in customized Text. For that I have built a CustomModel RequestViewModel with the following fields. Description, Event, UsageDate Corresponding to these my custom Model has the below code. So that, the DisplayName is displayed on the ASP.NET MVC View page. Now being the Description and Event string Datatype, both these fields are displaying Custom DisplayMessage. But I have problem with Date Datatype. Instead of "Date of Use of Slides", it is still displaying UsageDate from the actualModel. Anybody faced this issue with DateDatatype? Appreciate your responses. • jquery selector problem with script tags

  I'm attempting to select all <script type="text/html"> tags in a page. I use <script> tags to store HTML templates, similar to how John Resig does it. For some reason, the following jquery selector doesn't seem to be selecting anything: $("script[type*=html]").each(function() { alert("Found script "+this.id); }); This markup is in the BODY of the HTML document: <body> <script id="filter-search" type="text/html"> <dt>Search</dt> <dd><input type="text"/></dd> </script> </body> I've also tried putting it into the HEAD of the HTML document, and it is still not found. No alert is ever shown. If I instead change my code to this: $("script[type*=javascript]").each(function() { alert("Found script "+this.id); }); Then it finds only the scripts in the HEAD that have a src to an external file. Scripts in the actual page are not found. • Rich Text Editor (YUI Simple Text Editor used) not sending data to next page

  I am using a simple text editor from YUI, but when I click submit the code in the textarea/editor is not sent to the next page. I want to be able to receive it on the subsequent page and then store it in a DB(MySql). I have wasted lot of time already. Please help.   Hi, I'm working on a project and need to create a screen similar to the iPhone home screen: A scrollview with multiple pages A bunch of icons When not in edit mode, swipe through different pages (even I started the touch on an icon) When not in edit mode, tap an icon to do something When in edit mode, drag the icon to swap places, and even swap to different pages When in edit mode, tap an icon to remove it Previously I read from several forums that I have to subclass UIScrollview in order to have touch input for the UIViews on top of it. So I subclassed it overriding the methods to handle touches: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { //If not dragging, send event to next responder if (!self.dragging) [self.nextResponder touchesBegan:touches withEvent:event]; else [super touchesBegan:touches withEvent:event]; } In general I've override the touchesBegan:, touchesMoved: and touchesEnded: methods similarly. However, when I tried to drag the icon, the icon just moved a tiny bit and then the page started to scroll. In console, it logged with 2 or 3 "touchesMoved" message only. However, I learned from another project that it should logged tonnes of "touchesMoved" message as long as I'm still dragging on the screen. (I'm suspecting I have the delaysContentTouches set to YES, so it delays a little bit when I tried to drag the icons. After that minor delay, it sends to signal back to the scrollview to scroll through the page. Please correct me if I'm wrong.) So if any help on the code to perform the above tasks would be greatly appreciated. I've stuck in this place for nearly a week with no hope. Thanks a lot.

  Hi Guys, I'm relatively new with WPF. I'm trying to understand the difference between MouseDownEvent and PreviewMouseDownEvent. I understand the WPF event strategies and i understand that the MouseDown event is a bubbling event and the PreviewMouseDown is a tunneling event. I also understand the order of which these events are being fired - according to this MSDN overview http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms742806.aspx#routing (there is a diagram with example there). PreviewMouseDown (tunnel) on intermediate element #1. PreviewMouseDown (tunnel) on source element #2. MouseDown (bubble) on source element #2. MouseDown (bubble) on intermediate element #1. MouseDown (bubble) on root element. So I expected the the message boxes to be shown according to the above. From some reason - which I don't understand only the preview events are being thrown (according to what the MSDN says Preview_B1=Preview_B2=Preview_B3). My expectations were: Preview_B1=Preview_B2=Preview_B3=NonPreview_B3=NonPreview_B2=NonPreview_B1. But the non-preview events are not being thrown at all. So basically I don't understand the route of the events, from MSDN overview I understood that the route starts from the root element, goes down (tunnel) to the source element and then back up (bubble) to the root element, but this is not what happening in practice. • Problem accessing updated variables within OnTouch

  I have an OnTouch and a setOnTouchListener that updates varibles which contain screen coord info. The problem is it doesnt seem to ever update them. On line 78, RGB.setText(test); it never changes from 0.0. If i were to move that line and the line above it into the onTouch it updates. any idea what is wrong? • Validating against a Schema with JAXB

  I've been looking for solutions to this problem for far too long considering how easy it sounds so I've come for some help. I have an XML Schema which I have used with xjc to create my JAXB binding. This works fine when the XML is well formed. Unfortunately it also doesn't complain when the XML is not well formed. I cannot figure out how to do proper full validation against the schema when I try to unmarshall an XML file. I have managed to use a ValidationEventCollector to handle events, which works for XML parsing errors such as mismatched tags but doesn't raise any events when there is a tag that is required but is completely absent. From what I have seen validation can be done againsta schema, but you must know the path to the schema in order to pass it into the setSchema() method. The problem I have is that the path to the schema is stored in the XML header and I can't knwo at run time where the schema is going to be. Which is why it's stored in the XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <DDSSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/a/big/long/path/to/a/schema/file/DDSSettings.xsd"> <Field1>1</Field1> <Field2>-1</Field2> ...etc Every example I see uses setValidating(true), which is now deprecated, so throws an exception. • Help with javascript form validation

  I am getting a headache with form validation and hoping that the kind folks here can give me a hand finishing this sucker up I have it basically working except the email validation is very simplistic (only alerts if it is blank but does not actually check it if is a valid email address) and I am relying on ugly alerts but would like to have it reveal a hidden error div instead of the alert.   So I am using a jquery plug in that allows me to change the order of things in a list by dragging and dropping them. So my goal is to be able to grab a list of my objects (AlertInfo) and using it in a javascript function. I was able to use a json webservice call in a test project to pass the data to the page. I have this in several places in my code, none of which cause an issue like this one is. I have looked at the other code in the same view and it is the same and it works. I must be missing something, or have some sort of mistype that I havent caught. Just an overview of the controller events: The first call (/GroupSetup/PlanSetupAddNewList) will return an html string building a "form" for users to enter information into. The second call (/GroupSetup/PlanSetupChangePlanList) just changes a second dropdown based on the first dropdown selection (overwriting the html in the div). If you need more info, let me know!
