• What would you like to see in an beginner's ASP.NET security book

  This is a shameless information gathering exercise for my own book. One of the talks I give in the community is an introduction to web site vulnerabilities. Usually during the talk I can see at least two members of the audience go very pale; and this is basic stuff, Cross Site Scripting, SQL Injection, Information Leakage, Cross Site Form Requests and so on. So, if you can think back to being one, as a beginning web developer (be it ASP.NET or not) what do you feel would be useful information about web security and how to develop securely? I will already be covering the OWASP Top Ten (And yes this means stackoverflow will be in the acknowledgements list if someone comes up with something I haven't thought of yet!) • Programming against WSDL without access to actual webservice

  I'm going to use C# to read data from a few webservices. I've done that many times before, but those times I've had direct access to the webservices from my development machine. In this project I've just been sent a .wsdl file, and a couple of .xsd files for the webservice they have in their local intranet. I've seen that I can use "Add Web Reference", and point directly to the .wsdl file, so that a C# class is created. But how can I really test it? I'd like to return some dummy data that I can visualize while I develop. Any tips for this situation?

  Hello, Subversion 1.6 Ubuntu 10.4 I have a project with the following repository layout. proj/trunk proj/branches/new_feature1/ proj/branches/new_feature2/ proj/tags However, I would like to create a small test app, that isn't a new feature. Just just testing a small aspect of the project. I would like to create this test_app on a new branch. However, I don't want to have to copy from trunk to branch. I just want to create a new empty branch so that I can develop this test_app. Is there any way to do this? Many thanks for any suggestions,

  Hi all, I'm on a verge of quitting my current job as a .NET programmer. i'm 25 years old and have been a .NET programmer in the past 5-6 years, but now i wonder if maybe i should take this opurtunity and try some other things, like RT\Embedded or Driver development. My pro\cons: i love .NET since you can write enterprise systems with it, learn cool development methodologies and practice many patterns i want to learn RT\Embedded\Driver since its at the heart of so many things and i'm feeling this is a black hole for me. My question are: Is making career leaps a good idea? How can i manage to get myself into a job in RT\Embedded as my whole Resume has c# written all over it. What should i bet my cards on this days? android? java? flash? silverlight? etc?

• PHP or Javascript or other - Draw simple shapes onto images?

  I basically have an image of a world map and i would like to place a pin image at a specified pixel co-ordinate ontop of this world map image. It's for a website, so ideally the solution should be in PHP or Javascript (i'm avoiding Java and Flash as i want it to be as simple as possible). I had a look at the processing.js library but it is way to big and bloated for just performing this simple task. Is there a pre-existing Javascript function which will allow me to do this? Or a more simple javascript library that i can use? (processing.js was a bit too advanced for me, i couldnt get it working lol) In terms of a PHP solution, i would prefer taking the load off the server and onto the client for this task, but i would still like to hear methods for doing it in PHP if they are suitable. • PHP photo gallery with multiple upload form

  Hi everyone, I am trying to develop a PHP driven gallery with a form that has at least four file upload boxes, each with its own title and caption. I have been using php.upload.class to process uploaded photos but not sure how I would go about handling each individual upload while preserving its details (title, caption). Is there a practical way to do this or should I instead upload just the photos and then have the user add titles and captions on the next page? Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated. • Recommendations for a google finance-like interactive chart control

  I need some sort of interactive chart control for my .NET-based web app. I have some wide XY charts, and the user should be able to interactively scroll and zoom into a specific window on the x axis. Something that acts similar to the google finance control would be nice, but without the need for the date labels or the news event annotations. Also, I'd prefer to avoid Flash, if that's even possible. Can someone please give some recommendations of something that might come close? EDIT: the "real" google timeline visualization is for date-based data. I just have numeric data. I tried to use that control for non-date data, but it seems to always want to show a date and demands that the first data column actually be a date.

• Sandbox architecture in ASP.NET?

  Is it possible to develop a web-app in ASP.NET (framework is not a constraint), to have a sandbox architecture, and deploy widgets without disturbing the parent application? I expect both the parent application and the widget to be developed using .NET. EDIT: To elaborate, I want to have an web-app, say App1, and widgets (say wid1 and wid2). wid1 and wid2 should be like a plugin into App1, only difference is that, if I make any changes to wid1, I want to be able to deploy it without disturbing App1 or Wid2. The widgets can be something similar to a flash object, only that it needs to be developed on .net.

• Regexp to extract sources from different video embeds

  My SMF forum contains posts with video and I want to extract them to show on the Wordpress main page. My current regexp (thanks to SO!) extracts the url of the videos, which I embed using AutoEmbed. Everything works up until a post looks like this: <embed height="600" width="600" allowscriptaccess="never" quality="high" loop="true" play="true" src="http://mmavlog.net/embed/player.swf?file=http://video.ufc.tv/CSG/UFC113/20100507_ufc113_weigh_in_400k.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> Here is my current regexp: $regexp = "/\b(?:(?:https?|ftp):\/\/|www\.)[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]/i"; Since the posts can contain <embed> or <object> I realize that looking for the url by the "http" might be inaccurate. How can I use the regexp to look for "src=" for <embed> and "data=" for <object>?

  I can program pretty well, and I'm trying to think of a programming area that I can practice so I have a better chance of getting a job when I finish my education. I'm currently learning game development, but there are a ton of other people trying to get into game dev, so I want to find something a little more secure and sustainable to develop skills in. I've thought of things like financial systems and engineering stuff, but nothing I can think of is accessible to someone in high school. I'm trying to find something that involves physics or networking and isn't as popular a field as game dev. Does anyone have any ideas?

• Silverlight MediaElement issue

  Hello everyone, I am using Silverlight 3.0 + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + C# to develop a simple video application using MediaElement of Silverlight. I have two videos and I want to play them at the same time (similar to picture in picture effect) -- i.e. a part of the two videos are overlapped when they are playing (the same concept of Z-Order in UI design). I want to play one MediaElement on top of the other MediaElement, and I am wondering how to assign the overlap order (similar to set Z-Order UI element, but I did not find MediaElement has Z-Order property)? thanks in advance, George

• Is there any graphics library in a higher level than OpenGL

  Hello, I am looking for a graphics library for 3D reconstruction research to develop my specific viewer based on some library. OpenGL seems in a low level and I have to remake the wheel everywhere. And I also tried VTK(visualization toolkit). However, it seems too abstract that I need to master many conceptions before I start. Is there any other graphics library? I prefer to program in python. So I would like the library has a python wrapper. I think something like O3D would be better. But O3D is for javascript and it seems that Google already stops the development.

  Hi to all I develop web crawling service (windows service / multi-thread) . its work fine, but sometimes my server network not response. and i can't ping server IP (from internet), but can ping by other network card (local ip) that not access to internet. after i open server with remote desktop and stop crawling service. i could ping. What's my problem? Bandwidth limit or max connection limit exceed or ??? how to prevent this issue? Note: when this problem occur, i open browser for browse web site, but can't open any website!!! • Regular Expression Help - Brackets within brackets

  Hello I'm trying to develop a function that can sort through a string that looks like this: Donny went to the {park|store|{beach with friends|beach alone}} so he could get a breath of freash air. What I intend to do is search the text recursively for {} patterns where there is no { or } inside the {}, so only the innermost sandwiched text is selected, where I will then run a php to array the contents and select one at random, repeating process until the whole string has been parsed, showing a complete sentence. I just cannot wrap my head around regular expressions though. Appreciate any help!

• MovieClip.onResize event? how?

  I have a an swf, called 'controls' that I created with flash cs4. I upload the controls.swf to my web server. I create an application in flex and it loads the external swf controls into itself. So far I can manipulate the controls.swf via my flex app. I created a class in my external swf, but I need to add some onResize event/check to my scroll bar. For example, if my scrollbar size increases/decreases, I want it to change variable values. Is there some movieClip.onResize event?

  Hi guys, i'm working with Flash Live Encoder. It's using camera for streaming video. Support forum say's that i can create custom direct show filter and stream data that i need. I cann't understand how direct show filter will display in the source list of the live encoder. I've tryed to use some commercial virtual camera and it work's fine, but it cann't use source from network stream. Summary. I have a several network streams. I think that i must to create virtual camera for each one. But if i find examples with direct show filter on C#, i cann't find for virtual camera.

  I develop a program and I have 10 backups of it. I added some lines to it and when I compiled the project and now it has the following error: C:\Qt\Qt5.0.1\5.0.1\mingw47_32\include\QtWidgets\qtabwidget.h:173: error: 'QTabWidget::QTabWidget(const QTabWidget&)' is private the error is from * line namespace Ui { class ContentControl; } class ContentControl : public QTabWidget // * from this line { Q_OBJECT public: . . . } All backups have this error now. Any idea why? I re-installed Qt but the problem is still present.

  Hello guyz,i am new to daatbase and class diagram.I just get scenarios from internet and try to develop ERD and Class Diagram for them.But the following scenario has caused me some problems, and i am not sure about my design. "Whenever an employee fills leave application form, the leave application should be appeared for approval to his/her team leader. Team Leader has the option to change the date of requested leave and to approve or reject the leave. Employee also has the option to change date of previously unapproved leaves or to cancel any of unapproved leave. In case of team leader, he can approve his own leaves. Management should be able to create categories of leaves like (Casual, Sick, Planned work, etc) and should be able to adjust the days allocated to each type of leave". I have identified these as entities for ERD 1) Employee(I think i dont need to make entity for Technical lead,since he is an employee) 2) LeaveHistory 3) LeaveCategory Plz correct me if the system need more classes or entities

• How do i make my google web app searchable on google?

  I have started to develop a web app on google's app engine and i wish to make the static content on the site searchable on google. For example, my app is at http://ajakimov.appspot.com/ and on it there is only some random text like 'form bell road smear sky orange fan glass key'. When i google for 'form bell road smear' for example or the title of the site for that matter , i get no results - cant find the site. Does anyone know how to make a appengine site google-able?   Hi, I've been working in the creation of some custom components adding functionalites to the basic components such as a Datagridview. Now I want to create a custom Form ... I mean, when I choose add new item in the VS menu, there is a Windows form and some varians of it like an about box, or Dialog, that are simple Forms with a custom controls already on it. I want to have a login form for my set of applications, so this login is avialable for all the development team to use it in the different modules. • Why is this static routing not working ?

  Greeting gurus, I'm trying to develop a DHCP enforcement extension like Microsoft NAP. My trick to block dynamic-IP requesting machines (that don't meet certain policy) is to strip the default gateway (no default gateway) stated in the IP lease and set the lease subnet mask to 255.255.255.255. Now I need the blocked machines to be able to reach some specific locations (IPs) on the network. To allow for this, I'm including some static routes in the lease. For example, I'm including 10.10.10.11 via router 10.10.10.254 (the one to which the blocked machine that needs to access 10.10.10.11 is connected). Unfortunately, as soon as I set the default gateway to nothing, blocked machines cannot reach any of the added static routes. I also tried classless static routes. Any ideas ? any one knows how MS NAP actually do it ? Geeko
