  • Micrsoft fax server not seeing new modem

    - by Tim Meers
I recently added a new modem (a plain ol consumer grade one) to a fax server thats been up and running for years running on Microsoft Server 2003 fax services. The server currently has two modems, the new one is identical to one of the existing. After installing the new modem it showed up in the Fax Server Manager as a device but was not doing outbound faxes. (The server by default does not handle incoming.) So after a reboot the server no loger sees the modem in the Fax Server Manager but is listed as a device in device manager. I've attempted to restart just the fax service and even the whole box again but to no avail. Any one have any ideas on this one? Or any one with good links to resources for the fax service?

  • Copy file to WebDAV via Command Line on Windows 2003

    - by Boden
I need to copy a file from a Windows 2003 server to a WebDAV folder (on the same server, if it matters). This operation will be performed via a batch script executed via Scheduled Tasks. I've enabled the WebClient service on the server. So far I've determined that I can do it like this: net use x: http://host/path copy c:\path\myfile.txt x: net use x: /delete 1) Is there a simpler way than creating a temporary mapped drive? Will it work via a batch file when no user is logged in? 2) Is there anything I should know about enabling the WebClient service on my server? Previously it was disabled, which I assume is default.

  • Welcome to the Java Training Beat!

    - by tmcginn
We are a group of dedicated training developers for Java, located in the US, India, and now Mexico. In this blog we will announce new training content and events that might be of interest to our readers. In this first installment of the Java Training Beat, I would like to introduce three new Oracle By Example (OBE) modules I recently released and posted to the Oracle Online Learning Library. Creating a Simple Java Message Service (JMS) Producer with NetBeans and GlassFish - covers how to create a simple text message producer with NetBeans 7 and GlassFish. Creating Java Message Service (JMS) Resources in WebLogic Server 12c - covers how to create JMS resources using the console and WebLogic Server 12c. With this tutorial, you can replicate the results of the first tutorial in WebLogic. Creating a Publish/Subscribe Model with Message-Driven Beans and GlassFish Server - covers how to create a publish/subscribe application using JMS. This tutorial includes a short case study that includes a JSF front-end application that sends a hotel reservation request object to the server as a MapMessage. Hope you find these useful!  And do check out the Online Learning Library - we have a wide range of additional content posted and more being added every month!

  • How do you plan your asynchronous code?

    - by NullOrEmpty
I created a library that is a invoker for a web service somewhere else. The library exposes asynchronous methods, since web service calls are a good candidate for that matter. At the beginning everything was just fine, I had methods with easy to understand operations in a CRUD fashion, since the library is a kind of repository. But then business logic started to become complex, and some of the procedures involves the chaining of many of these asynchronous operations, sometimes with different paths depending on the result value, etc.. etc.. Suddenly, everything is very messy, to stop the execution in a break point it is not very helpful, to find out what is going on or where in the process timeline have you stopped become a pain... Development becomes less quick, less agile, and to catch those bugs that happens once in a 1000 times becomes a hell. From the technical point, a repository that exposes asynchronous methods looked like a good idea, because some persistence layers could have delays, and you can use the async approach to do the most of your hardware. But from the functional point of view, things became very complex, and considering those procedures where a dozen of different calls were needed... I don't know the real value of the improvement. After read about TPL for a while, it looked like a good idea for managing tasks, but in the moment you have to combine them and start to reuse existing functionality, things become very messy. I have had a good experience using it for very concrete scenarios, but bad experience using them broadly. How do you work asynchronously? Do you use it always? Or just for long running processes? Thanks.

  • Getting started with VNC

    - by Stephen
I have subscribed to a VPS service for the purpose of running some remote applications. To do this I'm going to need a remote desktop of one sort or another. With this in mind it was suggested that I try Ubuntu. The installation that was prepared for me was Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit (Ubuntu 11.10 (GNU/Linux 2.6.18-348.4.1.el5.028stab107.1 x86_64)) From here I used apt-get install ubuntu-desktop which completed successfully. I rebooted the machine and reconnected via ssh. When I attempt to connect from TightVNC on my Windows machine I get a message about the session being actively refused. What should I do to confirm the service is running? Do I need to setup a firewall rule to allow the ports to pass through? (I am a linux newb so explicitness is appreciated)

  • Enabled boot logging option in Win XP doesn't produce ntbtlog.txt file

    - by Xolstice
I have tried enabling the boot logging option for Windows XP Pro using the F8 and also boot.ini method, but it does not seem to be creating the expected ntbtlog.txt file. I'm doing this to help me solve a problem where the Avast antivirus service is not starting up - it keeps complaining with the message: "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start". I seem to notice that the file is produced on a system where the Avast antivirus is starting up without any problems. Can anybody suggest why the ntbtlog.txt file is not being created?

  • Why is the System process listening on Port 443?

    - by ClearsTheScreen
I am having problems starting my apache server, because port 443 is already in use. It turns out, the system process (PID 4) uses the port 443. I don't have IIS installed, the services.msc shows (predicatbly) no Exchange server running, nor WWW-Services, nor IIS. I have no idea how to find out what service uses that port short of just disabling each service one after the other, and I am not even sure that would help. I would be grateful if someone could point me towards how I can get my SSL port back, thank you :) P.S.: Of course "just switch apache to another port for SSL" would solve the problem of not being able to start apache. But I'd still like to know what is so insistent about hogging port 443. :)

  • Is it a good idea to take onsite/offsite backups of server images?

    - by ServerAdminGuy45
Assuming a non-virtualized environment it a good idea to take actual images of servers (using something like Acronis True Image) and store them on\off site? Backing up data is great but I feel it would be good to have copies of OS images in the event hardware dies or an upgrade gets botched I can always revert back. What would be your recommended way to do this (preferably using a NAS and an online backup service)? I was talking with the Iron Mountain folks and the service they described is more geared toward taking incremental snapshots of data. I'm not sure if there's a way to backup images in an incremental way such that only the changes between them are saved (that way I'm not wasting X GB each time I take an image).

  • Active Directory Account Always Locked

    - by Joel
My account in the domain at work comes up locked every morning and it's turning out to be unbearable. The domain admins have no clue as to what could be causing it and therefore I must call evey morning to have my account unlocked. I normally don't log off when leaving for the day, next morning I can unlock my computer and access my workstation but when I try to do anything domain-related I realize my account is locked. This is what I've tried so far: Deleted all network drives Made sure all the servers I remotely access neither have a session with my account or a service running under my account. No service is locally running with my account in my workstation. What else can I try?

  • .htaccess not working

    - by Anders Feder
I am trying to get .htaccess to work under Apache, but the server doesn't seem to honor it. In httpd.conf I have: AllowOverride All I have restarted the server with 'service httpd restart'. I have also done a 'service httpd reload'. The docs suggest testing the configuration with a garbage .htaccess file. If the server succesfully reads the garbage .htaccess file, this should result in an error when retrieving a page from the directory. But I get no error, suggesting that the server is not parsing the file. What might be wrong? Thanks.

  • How to monitor Windows Server events with Centreon Nagios

    - by Miss M
I want to monitor events on a Windows Exchange Server (Windows 2008 R2) and have installed NSclient ++ so I can use Centreon Nagios to monitor it. I did a bit of research and came across this question that I found somewhat helpful: How to monitor Windows host with Nagios? Nick Kavadias gave a good answer but it did not provide an explanation on how to configure the Nagios config file in such a way that it would monitor a specific service on the server. So, how do I set up a service in Nagios in such a way that it will detect when a windows event occurs on a server?

  • Where can I find Ad Networks with single liner Ads?

    - by MaX
I've developed a site that serves pure HTML Weather widgets (and they are great looking too). Just after two months I am generating 1.25K hits monthly (Google Analytics). Now I want to generate some money out of it. You can check my service out on Here . I am looking for affiliate or an Ads service that can I can hookup within but there is a twist in story. I want single liner text Ad in a particular location otherwise widgets will look rubbish, see this snapshot: Plus I have some unique places in my site to place some banner ads as well, Here are existing set of services that I've already tried: Ad Sense, doesn't allow or have such formats of methods. Peefly provides you with straight links works best but I recorded some clicks (Through Google Events) and they didn't show me any, plus it introduces overhead of manually going and choosing your links. BidVertise totally rubbish opens popups and what not, makes site look like spam I am new to this ad stuff so have a limited knowledge. Suggestions please? I have one more place in Forecast but I want to start simple. P.S. I also have a MetroUI like widget coming in the pipeline but its not ready yet.

  • Amazon S3: allow users to upload on a restricted basis (per bucket maybe)?

    - by Tom
Hi there, I'm thinking about signing up to the Amazon S3 storage service. What I want to do is create a service where other people can register their own bucket with a certain amount of storage. These users will install my software, which then uploads their files. Of course, the users may only upload what they have paid for. For this to work I would like to create a separate bucket for each customer, each with its own properties. Question 1: is this possible with the API? How? This means that the installed software must have the rights needed to upload to my Amazon S3 account. Question 2: can I create individual authentication IDs for each bucket or customer, so that they can only upload with restrictions I have set? Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 CD keys, are they interchangable?

    - by unixman83
I am talking about during installation. Using regular licensing, not volume licensing. Amongst OSes of the same class, are CD keys interchangeable or are they locked to a specific subset of CDs? In other words: If I have 10 legally purchased copies of Windows 7 Professional, can I throw out the discs for all but one? And all the CD keys will work? UPDATE: How about for service packs (when they come out). If I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 and a Windows 7 RTM original? Do they change CD keys between service packs?

  • Are you able to specify a the profile you want to use in pfexec?

    - by jigjig
Are you able to specify which profile you want to use for a given user when using pfexec who has been assigned multiple profiles? One example for this use is so that we can execute a command as a different user within the same process. In exec_attr, you are able to specify the uid/gid that will be used to execute a particular command as in the following example entry: Name Service Security:suser:cmd:::/usr/sbin/rpc.nsid:uid=0;gid=0 The above profile will use the super user (uid=0) to execute the rpc.nsid command. In user_attr, you can specify multiple profiles as below: testuser::::type=normal;profiles=Name Service Security,Object Access Management Can you then specify directly to use the Object Access Management profile to pfexec?

  • cPanel IPTables custom rules

    - by James Haigh
Hi, I'm trying to allow a host access to port 3306 by IP. I've added the rule and ran an iptables-save and also service iptables save. These commands show as "OK" with no reported errors. And this works absolutely fine. Now, the server hasn't been restarted at all since I've been having this problem, but every day when I start developing on the server that needs mySQL access, it reports that the connection is refused. Back on the mySQL server, all I need to do is service iptables restart and everything then works as normal. The mySQL server is a CentOS cPanel VPS running on OpenVZ. Anyone know how I can make these rules persist? Is it something cPanel is doing overnight that is messing with my config? Thanks.

  • systemctl (Fedora 17) and interacting spawned processes's consoles

    - by Sean
Introduction I've recently upgraded to Fedora 17 and I'm getting used to the newer systemctl daemon manager versus shell init scripts. A feature I need on some of my daemons is the ability to interact with their consoles because unclean shutdowns not initiated by the process itself can cause database corruption. So, performing a systemctl stop service-name.service for example might cause irreversible data loss. These consoles read user input through stdin or similar methods, so what I've been doing on my old OS is to place those daemons foregrounded in a screen session, and I suspended that screen session with ^A ^z. It's also worth noting that I've now made systemctl do this automatically if the computer reboots, but it still doesn't solve my potential data corruption problem I'm trying to avoid. My Question Is there a way to use systemctl in order to directly interact with the console of processes it spawns? Can I hook a process through systemctl to get access to its console? Thanks You guys always give great answers, so I'm turning to you!

  • Does a receiving mail server (the ultimate destination) see emails delivered directly to it vs. to an external relay which then forwards them to it?

    - by Matt
Let's say my users have accounts on some mail server mail.example.com. I currently have my mx record set to mail.example.com and all is good. Now let's say I want to have mails initially delivered to an external service (e.g. Postini. Note that this is not a postini-specific question though). In the normal situation where my mx is set directly to my mail server mail.example.com, sending MTAs will of course look up my MX and send to mail.example.com. In my new situation I'd have my mx set to mx.othermailservice.com and emails would be received there. OtherEmailService.com will then relay the emails (while keeping the return-path header the same) to mail.example.com. Do the emails that are received at mail.example.com after be relayed from the other service "look" any different than emails that go directly to it as would be the case where the mx was set to mail.example.com?

  • CSF Unresolved issue

    - by josephmarhee
I began receiving service failures for CSF/LFD once the limit was reached in iptables preventing the service from working properly. I flushed all iptables rules, and redid by rules using CIDR rather than the individual IPs that were listed and the issue persists. Error: The VPS iptables rule limit (numiptent) is too low (1527/1536) - stopping firewall to prevent iptables blocking all connections, at line 1459 This is after restarting CSF, which gave me: You have an unresolved error when starting csf. You need to restart csf successfully to remove this warning CSF still seems to be trying to enforce rules that no longer exists (lists entire chains upon trying to be restarted, only to fail with that error). Any idea of what's going on?

  • ADSL improvement in recent years

    - by cleong
Currently I have a 2mb/s ADSL connection. I signed up for the service more than five years ago. Has technology improved much during that time to allow for greater speed using the same wires? The building I live in is quite old and the lines aren't very good. They weren't able to support 6mb/s service back then. Now I notice that the lowest speed offered by my telco is 10mb/s. Even that would be a serious improvement over what I have now. Here are the stats from the modem: Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 10,5 / 15,5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 31,5 / 29,0
