  I'm confused. I'm having a nightmare rebuilding some native ruby gems and I'm wondering whether this is part of the problem -- part of this machine says its 64 bit but another part 32 ... as far as I can tell? Under 'About this Mac' it says 'Intel Core 2 Duo' which Apple says is 64 bit. So why, after doing sudo gem pristine --all am I still getting this kind of error? dlopen(/Applications/Rails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/nokogiri-1.4.2/lib/nokogiri/nokogiri.bundle, 9): no suitable image found. Did find: /Applications/Rails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/nokogiri-1.4.2/lib/nokogiri/nokogiri.bundle: mach-o, but wrong architecture - /Applications/Rails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/nokogiri-1.4.2/lib/nokogiri/nokogiri.bundle Specifically I had removed nokogiri and reinstalled it. • .NET assembly cache / ngen / jit image warm-up and cool-down behavior

  Hi, I have an Input Method (IME) program built with C#.NET 2.0 DLL through C++/CLI. Since an IME is always attaching to another application, the C#.NET DLL seems not able to avoid image address rebasing. Although I have applied ngen to create a native image of that C#.NET 2.0 DLL and installed it into Global Assembly Cache, it didn't improved much, approximately 12 sec. down to 9 sec. on a slow PIII level PC. Therefore I uses a small application, which loads all the components referenced by the C#.NET DLL at the boot up time, to "warm up" the native image of that DLL. It works fine to speed up the loading time to 0.5 sec. However, it only worked for a while. About 30 min. later, it seems to "cool down" again. Is there any way to control the behavior of GAC or native image to be always "hot"? Is this exactly a image address rebasing problem? Thank you for your precious time. Sincerely, Mike

I've been able to understand using recursion in other cases like this: code two: class two { public static void two (int n) { if (n>0) { System.out.println (n) ; two (n-1) ; } else { return ; } } public static void main (String[] arg) { two (12) ; } } In the case of code 2 though n will eventualy reach a point at which it doesnt satisfy n0 and the method will stop calling itself recursivly. in the case of code 2 though i don't see how it would be able to get itself from 1 if n=1 was the starting point to 2 and 3 and 5 and so on. Also i don't see how the line `return fibonacci (n-1) + fibonacci (n-2) would work since fibbonacci n-2 has to contain in some sense fibonacci n-1 in order to wrok but it isn't there yet. I know my question is worded poorly but looking at this is making my mind explode. the book i'm looking at says it will work. how does it work? `

  Hi, We are running our cluster on Amazon EC2. we are using cloudera scripts to setup hadoop. On the master node, we start below services. 609 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start namenode' 610 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start secondarynamenode' 611 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start jobtracker' 612 613 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop dfsadmin -safemode wait' On the slave machine, we run the below services. 625 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start datanode' 626 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start tasktracker' The main problem we are facing is, hdfs safemode recovery is taking more than an hour and this is causing delays in our job completion. Below are the main log messages. 1. domU-12-31-39-0A-34-61.compute-1.internal 10/05/05 20:44:19 INFO ipc.Client: Retrying connect to server: ec2-184-73-64-64.compute-1.amazonaws.com/10.192.11.240:8020. Already tried 21 time(s). 2. The reported blocks 283634 needs additional 322258 blocks to reach the threshold 0.9990 of total blocks 606499. Safe mode will be turned off automatically. The first message is thrown in task trackers log because, job tracker is not started. job tracker didn't start because of hdfs safemode recovery. The second message is thrown during the recovery process. Is there something I am doing wrong? How much time does normal hdfs safemode recovery takes?   I'm getting different values in milliseconds for the same date in past while using JodaTime lib and java.util.Calendar. • More efficient way to find media item in WMP media library?

  Hello, all. I am messing around with the WMPLib component provided by Windows Media Player 12 (wmp.dll) in VB.NET with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I am trying to retrieve a media item from my media library based on its name (assuming there are no duplicate names). At the moment, I'm grabbing the entire media library, and looping through every media item, and quitting the loop when I've found the correct media item. This works well (except for when a media item with that name cannot be found), but I was hoping there was a more efficient way of doing this.   Hey guys, i've got a problem debugging an iphone app that i'm attempting to write and it's got me stumped, bear with me, i'm a n00b to programming and might get some of the terminology wrong but i'll try to explain it as best as i can. The app gets an XML doc from the a web site, parses it into an array, and then displays it in a table view, i have the parser in a separate file. The ViewDidLoad in RootViewController sends it a url, the parser goes to work and then returns an NSMutableArray. When i run the app it works fine with small XML files (5 entries or so, and 1-3 sections), but when i use a larger one(20+ rows, over 12 sections) i get the error "-[CFString length]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3881940" when i scroll near the bottom of the tableview, just as the last section title is about to come onto the viewable area on the screen to be precise. if i return a static string instead of the object in my array in this method it doesn't crash, but i can use NSLog to call the array and it returns the title no problems. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)indexPath { return [[returnedEvents objectAtIndex:indexPath ] objectAtIndex:0]; } The returnedEvents array isn't released until -(void) dealloc {} I have read a few other posts on here, and a few guides on debugging and as of yet am unable to find anything that was able to help me, i'd be more than happy to post some code up here and any more information, i'm just not sure where to start... Thanks in advance for anyone willing to have a go at helping me out.

  Hello everyone, I am looking for a map/reduce function to calculate the status in a Design Document. (I know I want you to write code for me and I'm feeling guilty, but right now I do the calculation of the statuses in ruby after getting the data from the database. It would be nice to already get the right data from the database)

  Numbers whose only prime factors are 2, 3 or 5 are called ugly numbers. Example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, ... 1 can be considered as 2^0. I am working on finding nth ugly number. Note that these numbers are extremely sparsely distributed as n gets large. I wrote a trivial program that computes if a given number is ugly or not. For n 500 - it became super slow. I tried using memoization - observation: ugly_number * 2, ugly_number * 3, ugly_number * 5 are all ugly. Even with that it is slow. I tried using some properties of log - since that will reduce this problem from multiplication to addition - but, not much luck yet. Thought of sharing this with you all. Any interesting ideas? Using a concept similar to "Sieve of Eratosthenes" (thanks Anon) for (int i(2), uglyCount(0); ; i++) { if (i % 2 == 0) continue; if (i % 3 == 0) continue; if (i % 5 == 0) continue; uglyCount++; if (uglyCount == n - 1) break; } i is the nth ugly number. Even this is pretty slow. I am trying to find 1500th ugly number.

• LINQ to SQL : Too much CPU Usage: What happens when there are multiple users.

  I am using LINQ to SQL and seeing my CPU Usage sky rocketting. See below screenshot. I have three questions What can I do to reduce this CPU Usage. I have done profiling and basically removed everything. Will making every LINQ to SQL statement into a compiled query help? I also find that even with compiled queries simple statements like ByID() can take 3 milliseconds on a server with 3.25GB RAM 3.17GHz - this will just become slower on a less powerful computer. Or will the compiled query get faster the more it is used? The CPU Usage (on the local server goes to 12-15%) for a single user will this multiply with the number of users accessing the server - when the application is put on a live server. i.e. 2 users at a time will mean 15*2 = 30% CPU Usage. If this is the case is my application limited to maximum 4-5 users at a time then. Or doesnt LINQ to SQL .net share some CPU usage.

We have a website currently working on II6 and Windows Server 2003 (x86) without any problem. Now we want to migrate our server to a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and IIS7. Out current app is built in Classic ASP and SQL Server (This one located on a 2nd Server but this is staying the way it is now). The website is configured as a WebSite, not a virtual directory. Using DefaultAppPool with 4 applications.
