  is there any Simple opensource live audio streaming Server using WCF? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope. BTW: I know some people say WCF is not prepared for live streaming over bacikHTTPbinding but hey! We all need it to, and we ask MS alot so some day they'll make it beter and we all want to be prepared for it.

• Intent flags to Login page redirect, killing previous Activities

  Basically I have a Service that at some points it will sync with the network in order to check if the token is still valid. if it isn't, it should redirect to the login screen (from the service) and if the user press the back button, it should NOT show the previous Activity but instead exit the app. I'm not asking how to hack onBackPressed, I already know how to do it. I'm asking how to accomplish this using the intent flags. So far I have tried the following: intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Using the FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK is mandatory because I'm calling startActivity() from a service (or at least thrown exception told me so), and using FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP cause it was supposed to remove all previous activities from the stack, leaving only the new one. The issue is if I press back, I am still able to go to the previous Activity, which makes me think the combination of both flags are clearing the activities in the NEW task, not in the previous one I might be wrong on the reason, but it doesn't work. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

• Easiest solution to sync an offline (local desktop application) database with a central server and multiple pc's?

  I have a desktop application which uses a local database. (This can be SQLite, SqlCe, PostgreSQL or any other database I will be able to install locally, I haven't decided which one to use yet.) The plan is to achieve the following: A user can subscribe to some kind of cloud service. If he does his local database should be synced with the online database (one for all users, or one per user, whatever the easiest solution is) so he will be able to sync his local database data between multiple PC's, can access his data online. (Much like dropbox does for files.) What is the best, easiest (and preferably cheapest) solution to achieve this? I am looking into DataObjects.net but I can't find much documentation about their Sync feature. Or, are there other alternatives? For example, I start with some kind of cloud service which allows local caching and use the local caching for users who do not subscribe to the service. Any pointers, tips or experiences are welcome.

• Performance optimization for mssql: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the server?

  Hello everybody! We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites. • What's a good way to have sample data on the iPhone/iPad?

  I have an iPad application that pulls in all of its data from an external web service. I am working on building in a demo mode that will use a cache of demo data stored on the device so it can be demoed and tried out without the web service connection (or an internet connection.) Is there a project or good practices standard to follow to model this type of sample data? I'm expecting JSON arrays/Dictionaries back from my web service, how could I build a function that uses hardcoded data to create the NSMutableData object I'd expect to get back from a JSON web request?

• Caching in Ruby Gem, possibly not using Rails

  I am rewriting an existing Ruby Gem to include caching. This is for a gem that is relatively commonly used, and accesses a large amount of static data on a web service. Currently, I have a small number of gem users doing a large number of accesses to the service that under normal conditions would be swamping / downing the service, and we're going to put the gem up on github for general consumption. Right now, users can choose between using the rails cache mechanism, a simple disk cache, or no cache. What is best practice for letting people choose what cache to use like this (being able to use this outside of rails is a priority so i can't just bail to the underlying caching mechanism)? I'm looking for suggestions/examples for configuration and interface, especially. Thanks for your suggestions

• Is there a way to load multiple app.configs in memory?

  I have a windows service that loads multiple "handlers" written by different developers. The windows service exe has it's own app.config which I need. I'm trying to make it so that each developer can provide their own app.config along with their handler code. However, it seems an exe can only have one app.config. However, ASP.NET seems to support nested web.config... That's not exactly what I want, but I don't even know how I would get that to work in a windows service. Anyone come across this before or have any ideas?

• Zend_Soap with attachments (server)

  i'm trying to build a SOAP service with Zend_Soap. Everything is working great but the client needs the ability to send attachments to the service (not base64 encoded strings, as this service will be called multiple times a day with various file sizes so processing all that in memory is not possible. So I'd like to handle a normal SOAP attachment (DIME/MIME) with the SOAP server in Zend Framework however I'm unable to find documentation about it. Can I access it with $_FILES[] or any other way? Is it even possible in Zend_Soap (as there's not that much info available). SOAP is a must - so thanks for the advice but it has to be SOAP, not REST.

  Situation is like this: There are independent 5 services. Each service consists of a project for interface, implementation and test. Example: LocalizationService.Interfaces LocalizationService.Implementation LocalizationService.Test There is a WCF service for each of the services: LocalizationService.WcfContract (including DataContracts) LocalizationService.WcfHost The client applications are probably mostly going to use all of the services. Should I combine all service interfaces into a common one? AllServices.AllInterfaces In my opinion, this is a bad idea. The services are independent and there is no reason to introduce a dependency. I imagine that especially testing becomes more difficult. However, one may argue that having to include 5 libraries is too much of a hassle. (I'm not sure how to tag this. Feel free to retag.)

  I have an application that has a Service uses a ArrayList to store in the background for a very long time, the variable is initialized when the service started. The service is in the background and there will be frequent access to the variable (that's why i don't want to use file management or settings since it will be very expensive for a file I/O for the sake of battery life). The variable will likely to be ~1MB-2MB over its life tie. Is it safe to say that it will never be nulled by GC or the system or is there any way to prevent it? Thanks.

  I am tapping into a service that provides zip codes tax information - there service is a bit shakey, so I want to copy their database over and run the results off my own server while using their service to just update my table. However I'm not sure I'm able to loop through multiple results with this query: mysql_query( "CALL zip2tax.z2t_lookup('" . $strZipCode . "','" . $strUserName . "', '" . $strUserPassword . "')" ) I've tried setting $strZipCode to *. However I get an error from the database. I read on MySQL that mysql_next_result should be the solution, however I'm unsure how to properly implement that.

• data loading - app launching on tableview

  hi, i encounter an issue with my application. On one hand when my app launches, the first view displayed is a tableview within a tableviewcontroller. On the other hand my app calls a web service to collect data. These methods are in MyAppDelegate\applicationDidFinishLaunching. The thing is that my tableview is made of custom cells that need data from the web service. I noticed that the view (with the tableview) is launched first and then MyAppDelegate\applicationDidFinishLaunchin is executed. As a result the labels of my custom cells are all equal to null as my arrays aren't filled yet by the web service. I would like to know the proper way to make it. If anyone has an idea please tell me. Wallou

  Hi, I'm trying to use Scala as part of an existing Java application and now I run into an issue with dependencies injected with a setter method (no DI frameworks in this part of code). How is this handled in a Scala way? In Scala both val and var require to be initialized when declared but I can't do that, since the Java setters inject objects that implement a certain interface and interfaces are abstract and can not be instantiated. class ScalaLogic { var service // How to initialize? def setService (srv: OutputService) = { service = srv } Is there a way to initialize the var service so that I can later assign a dependency into it? It should be lexically scoped to be visible in the whole class.

• How can I convert my Stream (image data) back into a file

  I have a WCF restful service that I'm trying to upload an image to. I have a very basic metod that accepts a stream as it's only parameter and is defined in the contract as: [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "ReviewImage", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare, Method = "POST")] ReviewImage UploadImage(Stream data); I'm actually consuming this service from flash (which is fairly inconsequntial) which selects a file from the file system and uploads it through the service url. It all works seems to work, adding a breakpoint to the UploadImage method breaks as expected. If I wanted to save this file back to disk, is it just a case of reading this Stream object into a FileStream object that creates the file somewhere? A bit like the this? When i do actually do this the file can not be opened as an image. I'm sure i'm missing a key piece of knowledge here. Does my stream actually contain just the image bytes or does it contain more than that?

• Distinctly LINQ &ndash; Getting a Distinct List of Objects

  Let’s say that you have a list of objects that contains duplicate items and you want to extract a subset of distinct items.  This is pretty straight forward in the trivial case where the duplicate objects are considered the same such as in the following example: List<int> ages = new List<int> { 21, 46, 46, 55, 17, 21, 55, 55 }; IEnumerable<int> distinctAges = ages.Distinct(); Console.WriteLine("Distinct ages:"); foreach (int age in distinctAges) { Console.WriteLine(age); } /* This code produces the following output: Distinct ages: 21 46 55 17 */ What if you are working with reference types instead?  Imagine a list of search results where items in the results, while unique in and of themselves, also point to a parent.  We’d like to be able to select a bunch of items in the list but then see only a distinct list of parents.  Distinct isn’t going to help us much on its own as all of the items are distinct already.  Perhaps we can create a class with just the information we are interested in like the Id and Name of the parents.  public class SelectedItem { public int ItemID { get; set; } public string DisplayName { get; set; } } We can then use LINQ to populate a list containing objects with just the information we are interested in and then get rid of the duplicates. IEnumerable<SelectedItem> list = (from item in ResultView.SelectedRows.OfType<Contract.ReceiptSelectResults>() select new SelectedItem { ItemID = item.ParentId, DisplayName = item.ParentName }) .Distinct(); Most of you will have guessed that this didn’t work.  Even though some of our objects are now duplicates, because we are working with reference types, it doesn’t matter that their properties are the same, they’re still considered unique.  What we need is a way to define equality for the Distinct() extension method. IEqualityComparer<T> Looking at the Distinct method we see that there is an overload that accepts an IEqualityComparer<T>.  We can simply create a class that implements this interface and that allows us to define equality for our SelectedItem class. public class SelectedItemComparer : IEqualityComparer<SelectedItem> { public new bool Equals(SelectedItem abc, SelectedItem def) { return abc.ItemID == def.ItemID && abc.DisplayName == def.DisplayName; } public int GetHashCode(SelectedItem obj) { string code = obj.DisplayName + obj.ItemID.ToString(); return code.GetHashCode(); } } In the Equals method we simply do whatever comparisons are necessary to determine equality and then return true or false.  Take note of the implementation of the GetHashCode method.  GetHashCode must return the same value for two different objects if our Equals method says they are equal.  Get this wrong and your comparer won’t work .  Even though the Equals method returns true, mismatched hash codes will cause the comparison to fail.  For our example, we simply build a string from the properties of the object and then call GetHashCode() on that. Now all we have to do is pass an instance of our IEqualitlyComarer<T> to Distinct and all will be well: IEnumerable<SelectedItem> list =     (from item in ResultView.SelectedRows.OfType<Contract.ReceiptSelectResults>()         select new SelectedItem { ItemID = item.dahfkp, DisplayName = item.document_code })                         .Distinct(new SelectedItemComparer());   Enjoy.   Greetings. I know I have been in work sponsored hiding lately. We are working furiously on a beta project to secure a contract, and I can't really talk about it yet. Hopefully, the contracts will be soon signed. Not only will we then have money, but I can talk about all this really cool tech with which I have been playing. However, since the contract is not signed, I need to bring you people up to date with where I will be during the summer. Let's face it, you can't be a speaker / blogger without pandering to shameless self-promotion. First, I will, once again, be staffing the Hands-on-Labs at TechEd North America. Unfortunately, TechEd North America is already sold out for this year. However, if you're already going, drop by the labs and say Hi. Also, keep an eye on Twitter to track me throughout the event. Also, look for a post in a few hours with my specific picks for what content I'm looking forward to seeing this year. Immediately following TechEd North America, I will be flying into Knoxville to speak at CodeStock. I will be presenting my introduction and intermediate Xbox 360 development talks. There are a TON of great content at CodeStock this year, but there are only about 50 tickets left. After that whirlwind of work, things settle for awhile. That means I'm available to speak at your User Group, luncheon, bowling league, birthday party, anniversary, or bat mitzvah. Mid August brings us to That Conference. This one is going to be a blast. If you haven't heard of That Conference yet, you should really check it out. This will also be my introduction and intermediate Xbox 360 development talks. This is a new conference, and it looks like it will be a great one. Finally, we will turn our attention to DevLink. DevLink has the distinction of picking up my newest talk, Creating Stereoscopic 3D Graphics in XNA. On top of that, I'm giving an general Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7 talk. DevLink has added an new "XNA and Kinect" track, so there will me a ton of great game content. That should bring us through the summer. As I solidify the Stereoscopic talk, look for some content on that to creep up on here. I will say it's the first topic I've played around with that is easier in 3D than 2D. Also, the organizers of Alabama Code Camp are still trying to reschedule the event. When that happens, I'll get that information out. Also, we are looking to expand our development team. If you are interested in working for / with me, keep an eye on the T & W Operations website. I know we're immediately looking for a junior level developer, but I think a few higher level position may come up soon. • An open plea to Microsoft to fix the serializers in WCF.

  I simply DO NOT understand how Microsoft can be this far along with a tool like WCF and it STILL tout it as being an "Enterprise" tool. For example... Even if you remove the documentation, the DataContractSerializer DOES NOT support attributes so IPAddress would become an element this not meeting the contract xsd.exe could generate classes but it is a very legacy tool, generates legacy code, and you still suffer from the following issues: NONE of the serializers support emitting of the xs:annotation documentation.  You'd think a consumer would really like to have as much documentation as possible! NONE of the serializers support the enforcement of xs:restriction so you can forget about the xs:minLength, xs:maxLength, or xs:pattern enforcement. Microsoft... please, please, please, please look at putting the work into your serializers so that they support the very basics of designing enterprise data contracts!!

• Problem connecting to Hsqldb via Hibernate when running a Eclipse GWT project.

  Hi, I'm trying to run a simple GWT project where I'm trying to do a simple persitence via hibernate to a HSQLDB database. The database I'm using I have been using for at least 2 years with several osgi applications without any problems. So all I done is reused the same configuration and added a simple object mapping file. The problem I have is that I get a socket creation error when ever I try to persist the object with in GWT jetty. I now the database is up and running, I can telnet to it, run OSGI projects that uses the same config with out problems.   The problem is taht I get the following error qhile deploying my project to Glassfish: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to load EJB module. DeploymentContext does not contain any EJB Check archive to ensure correct packaging But, let us start on how the project structure looks like in Maven2... I've build the following scenario: MultiModuleJavaEEProject - parent module - model --- packaged as jar - ejb1 ---- packaged as ebj - ejb2 ---- packaged as ebj - web ---- packaged as war So model, ejb1, ejb2 and web are children/modules of the parent MultiModuleJavaEEProject. _ejb1 depends on model. _ejb2 depends on ejb1. _web depends on ejb2. the pom's look like: _parent: <?xml version="1.0"   Problems: One of my colleague is having a wired issue today with Search Service Application in SharePoint2010.After he created the Search Service Application, he could not browse to the Search Administration (http://ybbest:5555/searchadministration.aspx?appid=6508b5cc-e19a-4bdc-89b3-05d984999e3c) ,he got 404 page not found every time he browse to the page. Analysis After some basic trouble-shooting, it turns out we can browse to any other page in the search application ,e.g. Manage Content Sources(/_admin/search/listcontentsources.aspx) or Manage Crawl Rules(/_admin/search/managecrawlrules.aspx).After some more research , we think some of the web parts in the Search Administration page might cause the problem. Solution You need to activate a hidden feature using #Enable-SPFeature SearchAdminWebParts -url <central admin URL> Enable-SPFeature SearchAdminWebParts -url http://ybbest:5555 If the feature is already enabled, you need to disable the feature first and then enable it.
