    Is there any difference in (asymptotic) performance between Orders.OrderBy(order => order.Date).First() and Orders.Where(order => order.Date == Orders.Max(x => x.Date)); i.e. will First() perform the OrderBy()? I'm guessing no. MSDN says enumerating the collection via foreach och GetEnumerator does but the phrasing does not exclude other extensions.

Now the database I built is really business critical, and getting big, so it is time for me to dig into optimisation, specially regarding when/where to add indexes.     What do I need to consider before I switch a bunch of fields from VARCHAR(bignumber) to TEXT? Aside from performance, and sometime in the far future TEXT will be deprecated, and aside from the fact that it looks like I need to drop and recreate the table to alter the column's data type? This is for SQL 2000-- I can't do VARCHAR(max) and VARCHAR(8000) isn't large enough.

    In our oroject we already have a lots of tables (100+). Some of them contains a lot of columns (50-100) and we are facing the need of adding more columns from time to time. What do you think is best - from maintenance and performance point of view - to split these huge tables in smaller entities or to keep the tables the way they are ? We are using an ORM tools, so we don't need to write custom request.

    Currently, I have osmething like this in all of my classes: # Import logging to log information import logging # Set up the logger LOG_FILENAME = 'log.txt' logging.basicConfig(filename=LOG_FILENAME,level=logging.DEBUG) This works well, and I get the output I want, but I would really like to have all this sort of information in one place, and be able to just do something like import myLogger and then start logging, and then hopefully be able to just go into that file and turn off logging when I need an extra performance boost.
