  • What can tables do that CSS positioning cannot?

    I know there are various good arguments preferring css positioning over table-based layouts. What I'm wondering is whether the CSS model is complete (assuming a relatively modern browser) with respect to ALL of the capabilities of tables. Are there layouts that tables can achieve that are impossible or impractical with CSS?

  • Positioning 1px off in Safari/Mac but works on Safari/Windows

    I'm beating my head against a wall on this one; the logo image ("It's All About Revenue") shifts up by one pixel in Safari on Mac, but renders correctly in all other browser/OS combinations I've been able to test. Since the notification is coming from PayPal - NOT the customer that placed the order - My Login session doesn't exits this context .Therefore,all my login data doesn't exist in the session.I need my login session values to update my DB with paypal ipn value.How should i mentain my login session should i set browser session or other way can i send login primary key to paypal.

  • Enforce numbers in mobile web form

    I have a simple webform targeted for Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. I'm using just a HTML input element. Now I would like to restrict the element to only have integer numbers. Is there a way to enforce this in this browser (possible even that the phone will have it's number mode on when entering the form)? And if I wanted to allow floats, is something possible then?

  • JQuery dialog momentairly displayed on page load

    I created a page that has a JQuery based dialog using the standard JQuery UI function. I do this with out of the box functionality of JQuery... nothing special at all. Here is my HTML for the dialog: <div id = "myDialog"> <!-- ... more html in here for the dialog --> </div> Then the JQuery called in javascript that transforms the <div> to a dialog: // pruned .js as an example of kicking up a JQuery dialog $('#myDialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, title: 'Title here', modal: true } }); Again, plain-vanilla JQuery. So you start this wizard by clicking on a link on the parent page, and it then spawns a JQuery dialog which has a significant chunk of HTML that includes images, etc. As I continued developing this page, I started to notice that when I loaded the page in the browser that the <div> tags I was putting in that JQuery transforms into dialogs would very briefly be displayed. Then the page would act as expected. In other words, the dialog would not be hidden, it would be displayed briefly in-line in the page. Quite ugly and unprofessional looking! But after a split second, the page would render correctly and look just as I expected/wanted. Over time, as the page size grew, the time the page would remain incorrectly rendered grew. My guess is that the rendering engine of the browser is rendering the page as it is loading, then at the end it is kicking off the JQuery that will transform the <div> into a dialog. This JQuery function will then transform the simple <div> to a JQuery dialog and hide it (since I have the autoOpen property set to false). Some browsers <cough>IE</cough> display it longer than others. My large-ish dialog now causes the page to incorrectly render for about 1 second... YUCK! I came up with a resolution to this problem which works OK, but I'm wondering if someone knows of a better way.

  • Jquery autocomplete Items not clickable in mobile safari

    I'm using the defualt jquery autocomplete plugin in my iphone web app, it builds a div with li's. In the browser the hovers and click events work for this but in mobile safari if I click it highlights the entire results containing div. Do I need to create seperate event listeners for the iphone? How would I go about doing this? thanks

  • Performance Testing a .NET Smart Client Application (.NET ClickOnce technology)

    Has anyone ever had to run performance tests on a ClickOnce application? I have engaged with a vendor who had trouble setting up their toolset with our software because it is Smart Client based. They are understandably more geared toward purely browser-based applications. I wonder if anyone has had to tackle this before and if so would you recommend any vendors who use industry standard tools such as Load Runner (which i assume can handle the smart client)? Thanks

  • When adding WCF service reference, configuration details are not added to web.config

    Hi, I am trying to add a WCF service reference to my web application using VS2010. It seems to add OK, but the web.config is not updated, meaning I get a runtime exception: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CoolService.CoolService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. Obviously, because the service is not defined in my web.config. Steps to reproduce: Right click solution Add New Project ASP.NET Empty Web Application. Right click Service References in the new web app Add Service Reference. Enter address of my service and click Go. My service is visible in the left-hand Services section, and I can see all its operations. Type a namespace for my service. Click OK. The service reference is generated correctly, and I can open the Reference.cs file, and it all looks OK. Open the web.config file. It is still empty! <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <bindings /> <client /> </system.serviceModel> Why is this happening? It also happens with a console application, or any other project type I try. Any help?   • Print.css issue in Webkit

    The page in question is featured here: http://www.allwebcafe.com/news/news-article.php?id=78 For some reason, when a user attempts to print any article of this type from a Webkit-based browser (I've confirmed this in both Safari and Chrome), the pages are all blank. On the flip side, everything behaves as expected in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Thoughts?

  • Javascript new keyword and memory management

    Coming from C++ it is hard grained into my mind that everytime I call new I call delete. In javascript I find myself calling new occasionally in my code but (hoping) the garbage collection functionality in the browser will take care of the mess for me. I don't like this - is there a 'delete' method in javascript and is how I use it different from in C++? Thanks.

  • firefox scales images poorly

    Hi, I'm using Ubuntu Linux and when I zoom in on a page with "CTRL - +" the images become ugly, i.e. Firefox doesn't scale them correctly. Using Chromium-browser I don't have this issue. I have this problem on several machines with various versions of Firefox (3.5-3.6). Here is an example: http://xs.to/image-2AA4_4BDA24DE.jpg . Any idea how to change the scaling behaviour of Firefox?   • Lighting Fast CMS, a Django based CMS. Any experiences?

    I've just came across Lighting Fast CMS, which seems to be very promising Django based content management system. Documentation seem to be very good, even though it is still in beta stage. It also has very nice buildout based installation. Also core Components of it seem to be nicely decoupled. Does anyone have any experiences with it yet? How much one can customize it with extensions? How's extension development in general compared to Drupal or Plone? I'm hoping that I could do some projects with it instead of Plone or Drupal.     I have been trying to use the Ocean browsercaps files from http://owenbrady.net/browsercaps/ in a ASP.NET 4 application. When I drop the files into the App_Browsers folder I get the error The browser or gateway element with ID 'docomon505i' cannot be found. Are these files compatible with .NET4 or am I doing something wrong. The documentation is sparse.

  • Avoiding .NET versioning hell

    So sometimes (oftentimes!) you want to target a specific .NET version (say 3.0), but then due to some .NET service packs you get into problems like: Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(Delegate, Object[]) <-- this was added in 3.0 SP2 (3.0.30618 ) System.Threading.WaitHandle.WaitOne(Int32) <-- this was added in 3.5 SP1, 3.0 SP2, 2.0 SP2 Now, these are detected by the JIT compiler, so building against .NET 3.0 in Visual Studio won't guarante it will run on .NET 3.0 only systems. Short of confirming each and every function you use, or limiting your development environment to .NET 3.0 (which sucks since you have to develop for other projects too) what's the best way to avoid against using extensions?
