• Do jQuery and JavaScript have different namespaces?

  I have this code in jQuery.. $(document).ready(function(){ var fieldCounter = 0; ... I have a jQuery function that increments this value. This works, but I can't access this value on the page from a non-jQuery function? The reverse is also true, if I scope it in JavaScript e.g. <script type="text/javascript"> var fieldCounter = 0; I can access it from javascript but jQuery can't view it? I'm probably doing something really dumb?

  Hello, I've just finished my Android widget. Now I need to have different sizes of this wiget for the user to choose from. for example I need a medium, small and large size widget. so when the user install the app and hold the the home screen then choose widget, in the widget menu I want him to see three widget with the same app name but with the size. something like this: helloSmall helloMedium helloLarge I have the medium one ready but how can I make the small and the large in the same app? knowing that all three sizes contain the same exact data and actions just the size and the background are different.   I have a while loop which creates a list of anchor tags each with a unique class name counting from 1 to however many items there are. I would like to change a css attriubute on a specific anchor tag and class when it is clicked so lets say the background color is changed. • View centric design with Django

  Hi! I'm relatively new to Django and I'm designing a website that primarily needs usability experience, speaking of optimized CSS, HTML5 and UI stuff. It's very easy to use Django for data/Model centric design. Just designing a couple of Python classes and ./manage.py syncdb - there's your Model. But I'm dealing with a significant amount of View centric challenges. (Different user classes, different tasks, different design challenges.) The official Django tutorial cursorily goes through using a "Template". Is there any Design centric guide for Django, or a set of Templates that are ready and useable? I don't want to start from scratch using JS, HTML5, Ajax and everything. From the Model layer perspective Django is very rapid and delivering a working base system. I wonder whether there's something like that for the Views.

• Tips on refactoring existing .net applications to support localization?

  We're going global. I've been tasked with refactoring our existing products to support localization. Last week I shunned using resource files (.resx) in favor of a home-baked database look-up method. After hitting a serious snag with that, I'm back to the microsoft way of using resx. All the documentation I've seen so far details how to create new "World-Ready" applications, but I don't see anything on changing existing applications. Is my only recourse to touch the application form by form and control by control to have it point to newly created resource files? Any good sources/links for internationalizing your apps?

• Does flex not support hashmaps?

  I have a Flex object which collects a DTO from the server. All the fields arrive filled in correctly except for the one that is a HashMap. It arrives as null. I've tried giving it a type of both ArrayCollection and Dictionary, but that hasn't fixed it. Does anyone know if there's an inherent incomaptability between Java HashMap and Flex? If not, what might I be doing wrong here? I'm looking at my jboss console and I see the data being populated correctly in the server side before delivery to the client. However, as it gets to the client, that field is null. I'm ready to kill myself.

  Can't find a simple solution to this, I know it's easy and I've tried a few things but I can't quite get it to work. I'm currently working with a sidescrolling site and I want every time you click an image (contained in an li) it scrolls to the next li. I have jQuery plugin localscroll so it smoothly goes from one to the next, and that's working. I need to now write a code that triggers jQuery to utilize the localscroll function and go to the next li.   Hello everybody, I want to generate html layout with areas (divs, spans) that can be shown/hidden conditionally. These areas are hidden by default. If I call .hide method with jquery on document.ready these areas may blink (browsers render partially loaded documents). So I apply "display: none" style in html layout. I wonder what is the best practice to avoid blinking, because applying "display:none" breaks incapsulation rule - I know what jquery does with hide/show and use it. If jquery's hiding/showing implementation will change one day, I'll get the whole site unworkable. Thank you in advance

• Visual Studio 2010 doesn't want to convert any of my projects

  I've opened up my 2008 solution file for the first time but it only offers to upgrade one of my projects (a database project). All the other projects are ignored. The conversion wizard runs and I see the Welcome screen. I click next. I then see the Ready to Convert screen but it only offers to convert the solution file and the one project. There is no mention of all my other projects. I click Finish and all of my other projects are unavailable. What can I do?

A quesion about RGB color and its usefulness in a simple tiny php code: Imagine I have variable $colorA containning a valid six char color. say B1B100, a greenish natural color. Now If I would like to make a new color from that, which is, say, ten steps lighter thatn that original color, roughly. $colorA = B1B100 // original color php code with little color engine lightening stuff up goes here $colorB = ?????? // original color lightened up Is there a php ready function that KNOWS rgb colors something like php function RGB ( input color, what to do, output color) Where what to do could be +/- 255 values of brightness etc etc. Is something like this already possible or am I day dreaming? rgb($colorA, +10, $colorB) If this does not exist, what would be the shortest code for doing this? • deploying vb.net app with database on server

  I have an application that accesses a sql server 2008 database. The server and database is stored on my local harddrive and I would like to learn to scale this up to having multiple users in our office access the application which I will i deploy on a server. For now the database will stay on my pc until I am ready to put it on a dedicated server for myself but for now how do I allow the application still to access my database.   I'm trying out the Highcharts jQuery plugin for creating charts of data in an MVC application. But I need to get the data for the function dynamically from an Action Method. How can I do that? • Self updating application install with WIX?

  I am writing an application that needs to be installed on a large number of desktops and also needs to update itself. We are looking at WIX for creating the installation. I have used ClickOnce and it is not a good solution for this install. WIX seems to fit, but there is no good process for auto update that I have found. I have looked at ClickThrough, but it doesn't seem ready for prime time yet. Does anyone have another good solution to use with WIX (or maybe another install program) to auto update an application install?

  Hi, I'm working on a online quiz client where we use a dedicated custom-made linux distro which contains only the quiz client software along with text editors and other utility software. When the user has started the quiz, I want to prevent him/her from minimizing the window/closing it/switching to the desktop or other windows. The quizzes can be attempted using only the mouse, so I need the keyboard to be completed disabled for the period of the quiz. How could I do this, using Qt or Mono? • Run JavaScript after a DropDownList is DataBound

  I need to trigger a JavaScript function to be called AFTER a DropDownList on my ASP.NET WebForms page is DataBound, because the SelectedIndex of this DropDownList is the parameter to the JavaScript function. I've tried this various ways, but it seems that if I do it with pure JavaScript onload by using ClientScript.RegisterStartUpScript, the control can be found (because it hasn't been assigned a clientID yet?). If I use jQuery (document).ready { } it says that the DropDownList has no selectedIndex.value. So I need some JavaScript to run AFTER the control has a value set by the DataBind. How can I accomplish this? onChanged won't work because I need the function to fire on the first page load, with no user input. DataBinding the SelectedIndex of the DropDownList doesn't cause the JavaScript onChanged event to fire.

• VB.NET Application which can compile and run C programs

  These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. Can someone tell me how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself. Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.
