• Reporting Services 2008 R2 export to PDF embedded fonts not shown

  Hi, I have installed a font on the server that hosts Reporting Services 2008 R2, after that I've restarted the SSRS service, and sucessfully deployed a report with a custom font. I can see it using the font on the web, when I export it to Excel, however on PDF the font is not visible. If I click on File - Properties - Fonts. I'm presented with a screen that shows me a list of fonts on the PDF. There's an a icon with Helvetica-BoldOblique Type: Type 1 Encoding: Ansi Actual Font: Arial-BoldItalicMT Actual Font Type: TrueType The second one is a double T icon with the font I'm using and a (Embedded Subset) sufix. Its a True Type font and ANSI encoded. However the text is not using this embeded font, If I select the text and copy to a word document (I have the font installed) I can see the text in the font, however not on PDF, what's wrong here?

• black and white pages not recognized by printer

  I have a document which has color on about 25% of its pages. When I print it in the copy shop, the printer's technically supposed to recognize the b/w pages. However, all pages are registered as colored, i.e. the pages are color-enabled pages which happen to not have any colors on them (but I'm paying for the color-enabled-ness). Regrettably, the staff have to charge me for color because the printer's leased and they have to pay for color pages, so showing them that there's no color doesn't help me. What are possible sources for b/w pages showing up like that?

  As a Software Engineer we had a lot of discussion on SE design. Although we sync every document on the development process on Google Doc, mind map just didn’t fit in Google doc yet. The best we can do is to store a copy and share it online. To me, Mind map is an ir-replaceable piece of tools (yet) as agile note taking tools. And an eFormat is even greater than a paper one, due to the portability and extensibility. Does anyone have a good solution on “cloud-sharing” mind map? (We are using FreeMind at the moment) Thanks

  hey guys, I created a word file with office 2007 and exported it via jaws pdf. Now I want some bookmarks or any kind of "linking-action" that makes it easier to navigate through the document. My PDF viewer doesnt allow to create bookmarks in the free version so I guess I need to handle this via word! maybe using a table of content? anything that is recognized by pdf! thanks in advance edit: I realised it with using a table of centent.it works fine but that wasnt the solution if been looking for.I like to have some bookmarks but my pdf creator doesnt take over the one I created in word. need to figure out how this could works

• Screen problems on 11.10 using VGA compatible controller 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

  I am having problems with my display. The problem manifests as lots of screen artefacts, which seem to be worse in Unity than in Gnome 3, are worse after i have used suspend and are intolerable if i set myself up on a dual monitor. Specific issues include: icons disappearing, lines occurring all over the screen, the backgrounds of certain windows going another colour and window borders disappearing or being filled with text from other parts of the screen. The most annoying problem is lines of text disappearing from a host of word processing programmes (libreoffice, gedit, bluefish etc), as i type. In most circumstances the screen problem can be temporarily fixed (so that i can see the screen clearly) by either scrolling the text off the screen and then scrolling it back onto the screen, or highlighting the offending area of the desktop, by clicking and dragging. Errors on parts of the screen that don't seem to redraw (window borders (off the universal menu) or the screen area outside of a LO document, in print layout view, for example) can't seem to be fixed in a session. • Best and Proper Permissions Settings for Directory

  I am interested in knowing the proper, yet security-conscious settings for a directory. Here's my scenario: I have a username for FTP access to my server called "user". For the purpose of the scenario, PHP runs as "nobody" on my server. I have a directory off the document root called "sample". The "sample" directory is chmod'd at 0755 (drwxr-xr-x) "Sample" is owned by "user" and the group is set to "user" The above is all very straight forward and standard. So I want to have a script be able to create (mkdir) and delete (rmdir) directories under "sample". Yet, I don't want to obviously overly expose my server by opening up the permissions (I could easily chmod sample to 0777 and make it world write-able). What is the best combination of permissions, owner settings and/or group settings to allow my script to create and delete directories under "sample" while retaining the ability for "user" to continue to FTP into the directory? • Visual Studio 2010 Keyboard Shortcut Posters Available

  I’m a firm believer in the productivity gains you experience when using keyboard shortcuts in Visual Studio. If you’re not using keyboard shortcuts while coding then your productivity is suffering. Some of my favorites (omitting the obvious ones like F5 to start debugging) as are: Ctrl+K, C – Comment section of code Ctrl+K, U – Uncomment section of code Ctrl+K, D – Format the current document (indentation, etc.) Shift+Alt+C – Add new class to a project Shift+Alt+A – Add existing item to a project Ctrl+Shift+A – Add new item to a project The good news is all of these and a TON of others are all documented in the Visual Studio Keyboard Shortcut Posters (available as PDFs). The only problem is there are so many you need a printer capable of printing on larger paper because while you can read them all on 8 1/2 x 11 paper in landscape mode, for them to be a valuable quick reference on your cubicle wall you’re going to need to print them on large paper.   I said I would tackle documenting some of the new features in the 10.1.3.4.1 roll up patch I mentioned last week. With the patch you can now set the default state of bookmarks (if you create them) in your PDF outputs. If your users prefer to see them all collapsed to the base level or may be collapsed to the second level to ease navigation; whatever they need. Its another opportunity for you to look like a star! You of course need to start with a table of contents; then add the convert|copy to bookmarks command. You can then add the new collapse command to set the appropriate level in the bookmarks. <?copy-to-bookmark:?> <?collapse-bookmark:show;2?> <<< Table of Contents >>> <?end convert-to-bookmark?> The command allows you to expand or collapse the bookmarks as you need. Of course you will know how many levels you will have in the final output document. • Advantages and Disadvantages of the Waterfall Methodology

  In my personal opinion I believe the waterfall method is one of the worst methodologies to use when developing larger systems because it leaves is no room for mistakes. As the name implies the waterfall methodology does not allow  for projects to go back up stream to recover from design errors, missing and/or limited requirements. In addition, hidden bugs are not usually found until the testing phase. This can prove to be very costly and time consuming to the developer and the client. According to NCycles.com, the waterfall methodology structures a project into separate stages with defined deliverables from each phase. Define Design Code Test Implement Document and Maintain The advantages found by Ncycle.com to this methodology are: Ease in analyzing potential changes  Ability to coordinate larger teams, even if geographically distributed Can enable precise dollar budget Less total time required from Subject Matter Experts The disadvantages found by Ncycle.com to this methodology are: Lack of flexibility Hard to predict all needs in advance Intangible knowledge lost between hand-offs Lack of team cohesion Design flaws not discovered until the Testing phase References: NCycles.com  (2002). If i replace $(this, '.inner').stop(true, false).fadeIn(250); with $(.fadeInOnHover .inner').stop(true, false).fadeIn(250); then all the .inner elements on the page will fade in (which isn't really what i want, as i have ~10 of them). I know it's possible to achieve what i want to do, but i don't know how in this case. I know that IE has an option to print background but Chrome does not. • String patterns that can be used to filter and group files

  One of our application filters files in certain directory, extract some data from it and export a document from the extracted data. The algorithm for extracting the data depends on the file, and so far we use regex to select the algorithm to be used, for example .*\.txt will be processed by algorithm A, foo[0-5]\.xml will be processed by algo B, etc. However now we need some files to be processed together. For example, in one case we need two files, foo.*\.xml and bar.*\.xml. Part of the information to be extracted exist in the foo file, and the other part in the bar file. Moreover, we need to make sure the wild card is compatible. For example, if there are 6 files foo1.xml foo23.xml bar1.xml bar9.xml bar23.xml foo4.xml I would expect foo1 and bar1 to be identified as a group, and foo23 and bar23 as another group. bar9 and foo4 has no pair, so they will not be treated. Now, since the filter is configured by user, we need to have a pattern that can express the above requirement. I don't think you can express meaning like above in standard regex. (foo|bar).*\.xml will match all 6 file above and we can't identify which file is paired for a particular file. Is there any standard pattern that can express it? Or any idea how to modify regex to support this, that can be implemented easily?

• Using WebSphere CloudBurst with PowerVM to AIX virtualization over a cloud

  hi there we are studying the virtualization option to reduce our datacenter cost, and this research was assigned to me. we looked into alternatives and we almost reached a conclusion that PowerVM is the only option to virtualize pSeries servers. we found no signs of cloud support explicitly mentioned in any document, however there was the mention of CloudBurst. from the videos we watched and the documents we read, it seems that CloudBurst is more oriented towards Application Servers (WebSphere Software). but our environment is not relying only on WebSphere. we have some banking applications, Oracle Databases and MQ/Broaker. the question is: 1- can we virtualize the existing applications (all running AIX) on a cloud running on top of some of the existing servers? (given that we do the sizing properly) 2- is PowerVM to run on top of CloudBurst? 3- if the above solution is applicable, is this some sort of HA solution (since the VM will run on top of multiple physical boxes, while the same physical box will run multiple live images) thanks for your help

• Sending an email with attachment from server side

  I have to create a word document in a specific format and send it as attachment to some email addresses. I have a preview screen for the report which on approval has to be send in email. This is an ASP.NET MVC 3 application. I am left with a few options here. I am creating the preview using html. I can convert this html into doc and send it, which would be a straight solution. But capturing the Response object's output is being a tough job. I thought of using Mail merge functionality of MS word, where I'll be filling the placeholders of the doc template. But the problem is conceptually, it doesn't appear to be mail merge. I have found someone suggesting to use RTF format and replace the placeholders with database values. Which is the right thing to do? What's the best solution here? Is there any other option than the three listed above?

• Changing the placement of the left border of tables in Word

  Is it possible to have tables in Word such that the border lines align with the text outside the table? In MS Word, the left-side (and also the right-side) border is by default not aligned with the rest of the text on a page. It's actually the text in the first column of a table that is aligned with the text outside the table. And the table border is a little bit to the left. I find this layout quite a bit annoying, as I don't want to have any elements on a page outside the range that is used by normal text. I know that I can change the column delimiters manually (via the ruler). I'm looking for some more automatic way like setting the defaults for the whole document or such.

• How to mail merge a hyperlink in Microsoft Word or Publisher 2010

  I am trying to do an e-mail merge in Microsoft Publisher 2010 (which appears to do mail merging like Microsoft Word) and I'm wanting a merged email address to automatically be hyperlinked in the resulting email. For example, one of the merge fields could be "EmailAddress" with an example address being [email protected]. In the document, I would want the merge field "EmailAddress" to display as the default text in an hyperlink and also set the target of the hyperlink to "mailto:EmailAddress" (eg. mailto:[email protected]). I can't figure out how to get Publisher 2010 to do that. I would think that it's possible, though. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  hi folks I have some pdfs I want convert all to exe files and put them into folder on my cd and my customers run exe files instead of pdf and for security reason. so I have tried pdf2exe tools but I need something totally free. pdf2exe is evaluation version and there are some limitation. Please tell me something free, I don't need complicated one I just need encapsulating into exe file. In fact I don't want someone be able to save pdf document and I want to have Independent viewer on my cd.

• Serve WordPress from root of site on Bitnami EC2 Ubuntu image

  Running Bitnami's Ubuntu Wordpress Image on Amazon EC2. By default the WordPress install is at /wordpress and there is a static index.html file in the root. How do I configure Apache and WordPress to serve from the root instead of /wordpress? I have tried the instructions on this page: http://digitivity.org/10/how-to-serve-your-wordpress-blog-from-the-root-directory-if-its-installed-in-a-subdirectory without success. I have tried changing the document root to the folder serving the wordpress content, but that just breaks WordPress. I know I am missing something simple, but not sure what. Any help would be appreciated.
