• How to display "Comic Sans MS" in Linux?

  I use "Comic Sans MS" font on my web page. The web page looks OK if I open it under Windows and MAC. But it does not work under Linux. How can I solve this problem? May be I can put the font on my web server? Is this font available for free? Can it slow down my page? Or may be I can replace "Comic Sans MS" by another font which is similar and is available on the 3 operation systems?

• How to avoid printing nearly blank pages?

  How many times have you printed an email just to have the last page be 2 or 3 lines of a person's signature (or worse, the "This is confidential" copy inserted by corporate mailservers)? How many times has the last page contained just the footer of the website? Does anyone know of a utility or print driver that can help avoid printing blank or nearly-blank pages? I am not looking for techniques for avoiding this in specific programs -- if I take the effort of doing print preview and then adjusting the pages to be printed, then of course I can avoid it. What I want something I can install that, whenever I push "Print" to any of the various printers I print to with my laptop, it automatically says "hmmm... I bet he doesn't really want that page which is 95% empty" and possibly prompts me to say "do you really want to waste paper on this?"

• getting a 404/403 error for payment gateway

  We are setting up an online payment facility using a payment gateway. After the payment gateway finishes processing the credit card details for a payment, the user is redirected to a "403 Forbidden" page. The logs show: [MY_IP_ADDRESS_HERE] - - [SOME_DATE_HERE] "GET /POSTBACK_URL.php?txnid=1338434567&result=failure&reason=The+remote+server+returned+an+error%3a+(404)+Not+Found.&digest=7a115270c56df5945c43ad86e56b2e930a3cfd50 HTTP/1.1" 404 - "PAYMENT_GATEWAY_URL_HERE" "BROWSER_DETAILS_HERE" It means that when the PAYMENT_GATEWAY_URL attempts to open our POSTBACK_URL, it gets a 404 error, is that correct? But why does the page say "403 Forbidden"? Anyway, we tried to copy-paste that same URL into the browser window, and the page is opened successfully, with our programmed error notification message. So, why couldn't it be opened when the payment gateway tried to redirect to it, but we could? Is this some sort of permissions issue? If so, the postback URL's file permissions are already 755. What am I missing?

• PC is very slow

  Hi All, My Windows XP system is very slow. I tried all possible ways of improving the performance. But now luck. I've 4GB RAM and AMD Phenon XII B53 processor. I don't see any applications consuming CPU resources. But the Page File usage is 4.18 GB(System Managed size in MyComputerPropertiesPeformance). There is enough RAM available, but still why OS is using Page File? How can I improve the Page File usage? Please help me.

• Why are my Google and Bing search result pages locking up?

  I've got some really weird behavior going on. I can't do any web searching using Google or Bing because when the search result page shows up, every single link on the page is completely unresponsive. That is, every link to a search result. The links to page functions other than search results work fine. This happens in both IE9 and FF13. It doesn't happen to Yahoo! results, though. Any ideas?

• Awstats showing strange 404 referrers

  When I look at Awstats 404 errors I see sometimes strange referrers. For example on www.mydomain.com I might see a 404 error reported in Awstats that says: URL (not found) Referrers some-file.jpg http://www.mydomain.com/some-page.html some-file.jpg is a file that does not exist, so it's not strange that if someone tried to reach it got back a 404 from server. The strange part is that the referring page DOES NOT EXIST TOO, I mean http://www.domain.com/some-page.html DOES NOT EXIST, so how could it be the referrer? Is it some client cheating the referrer?   I'm new to digital books and I use the Kindle app for Windows to read the books I bought but I hate how I can't read the bottom paragraph of a book in the Kindle app in the centre of the monitor; I have to bend my neck down and it gets sore fast. Problem is that I can't move the Kindle book page up or halfway as when I'm reading a PDF document; if you try to move the page in Kindle it skips to the next new page. So, I thought maybe converting my books to PDF will solve the problem. How do I convert Kindle books into the PDF format? Does anyone have another solution? • How much RAM 64bit Windows 8 reserves to OS internal use?

  Windows reserves some memory for it's internal use which is not normally allocated to applications. This reserve is seen most easily if you run without a page file or limit the pagefile to relatively small size (such as 3GB). Windows will allocate primarily RAM up to the limit, fill up remaining free space in the page file (if any) and issue a low memory warning when there is no page file space left and the allocated RAM limit is exceeded. The limit appears to be a percentage of the total system RAM. Windows 7 x64 limit is discussed here and methods for circumventing the "low memory warning" is discussed here. Disabling the low memory warning has some advantages - You can use some 600MB more RAM on 8GB machine) But there is a serious disadvantage - When you're out of ram, programs will crash. How much RAM can you allocate on 8GB Windows 8 x64 before you get the low memory warning? Is it possible to adjust the warning threshold?

  I have a server running Apache with mod_proxy, a module to use my localhost as a proxy server. When somebody on the same LAN visits my server (my localhost through my lan ip), he/she can see only the .html page loaded into my server. Due to DNS Spoofing restrictions on the client, if he/she clicks on a link that refers to something not on my server, Apache says correctly "Object not found", because the client cannot request the page from the Internet (remember, the DNS is spoofed to my localhost). The question is: how to configure Apache to grab the page in place of the client?

  Let's say you're trying to get a CMS up and going. And say you're supposed to find a Start Page at "www.yourdomain.com/start" But you don't have a domain name yet. You only have an IP address (yourIPaddress). Apache is visibly running at yourIPaddress. So you look in "yourIPaddress/start" And you don't find anything there, just a 404 page. And the person who installed it for you tells you: "In Apache, yourdomain/start is not the same thing as yourIP/start. Please read up on Apache server configuration to figure this out. And that's all the help I can give." My question is: what concepts (re: Apache configuration) should I read up on so that I can find the start page? Thoughts?

  Hi, I cant browse php pages in my local server.Before it was working fine. But now i cant browse php pages, i can browse html pages and asp pages , no problems with that. But when i try to browse a php page its not loading. What will be the problem?? • Wordpress login fail after .htaccess domain redirect

  I use .htaccess to redirect requests to my (new) domain to another domain hosted on different server. The file contains: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?amazon40\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://steamsigs.com/amazon40/$1 [R=301,L] The redirection works fine. The home page is redirected to steamsigs.com/amazon40 and wordpress login page shows up correctly (steamsigs.com/amazon40/wp-login.php). But the acutual login process doesn't work. It does not show the control panel and keeps on redirecting to the login page. Could be that something's interfering with the GET/POST vars but I'm not sure about this. I'd appreciate any your help to resolve this.

  I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Question: Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in Eventlog IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page. Question: Is there any other way to debug/check where things might be going wrong? Here is what the page looks like: FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. • Sharepoint .PDF contents displaying as 'searchtext.xml' in searches

  Hi Experts, I recently used installed ifilter in my sharepoint farm to enable searching of the contents of .pdf documents. All went well, except if I search for contents of any .pdf file, they appear in the search results with document title "searchtext.xml", and the link to the document gives a giant page of the .pdf contents in an .xml looking browser page. :s I have added .pdf filetypes to the search, so I am unsure why it is reading them incorrectly.. if I search for a .pdf document title such as 'document.pdf' it will display the result as a html page, though the link does follow to a readable .pdf file. Any help?

• Two domains hosted on the same server with different root folder shows up the same homepage

  I have hosted two domains from GoDaddy at Linode VPS. They are mobiletoast.com and lesseltechnologies.com Thought the latter site has a separate index folder, whenever I navigate to it, I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The strange thing is, I see the expected page (It works), when I open the site from my mobile phone. But when I open the site from my PC (any browser, without any cache, hard refresh), I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The Linode support team says, they see the correct "It works" page. But I am not able to see that page. • Decent bookmark manager/tool for Firefox.

  The built in bookmarks UX for Firefox is dismall. How do I bookmark a page without opening the whole shebang and shoosing a bookmark folder? I can simply 'star' the page, but then it ends up in Unsorted Bookmarks. I can move a bookmark folder to the bookmark toolbar, where I have instant access to all bookmarks in that folder, but I can no longer bookmark a page in that folder in the normal way, because when I have to click the damned bookmark folder icon and manually type in the URL and title. What add-ins are there that can make bookmarking in Firefox humanly sane?

  I want to redirect this: http://www.site.com/xyz To http://www.site.com/ Basically i want to redirect to the root domain if a user types anything else after the first slash of my domain name like /xyz or anything else should be redirected or rewritten as the root URL in the browser. For example: http://test.example.com/olddir/sub/page.php?v=one to http://test.example.com/new/one while also redirecting the any request to the root of the olddir folder.   Is it possible to accomplish the following scenario with a proxy server? We are having one internet facing server that we want to put behind a proxy for some reasons. We want everything to work as before. When they do a request all connections will be forward to the internal server which will send back the information through the proxy. We want to be able to change to proxy to show an maintenance page whenever we are doing maintenance and change it back to forwarding traffic when we are done. We do also want to be able to keep forwarding all users that are using the sites but show an maintenance page for all new users for a time before showing the maintenance page for everyone in order to give the users some time to finish their work before kicking them out.

• Laptop Toshiba Satelite M300 screen is completely blank.

  Hi, My laptop Toshiba satelite M300 Laptop screen is completely blacked out. It powers up and appears to be running but the screen is blank. I've taken battery pack off and back on again. Before the screen was blacked out, it used to flicker a bit. Also before it blacked out i was having problems with the internet and I was on phone to Internet provider who took me through steps to take my laptop back to a future date where it was operational. It then worked properly for a few days but then switched it on and screen was blank. It's more then a year old so out of warranty. Any suggestions on whether I should pay the $300 bucks to see if they can fix it?

• Dell XT on Windows 7 never recovers from sleep

  My Dell XT, after upgrade to windows 7 ultimate seems to never recover from a sleep i.e. opening the lid shows a flicker, and then all lights go off. When I press the power button long enough it reboots and says that Windows had a serious error, blah blah (but no BSOD). Hibernate doesnt cause any problem, and that is what I am doing as default. Any idea how to debug more and fix it. Looked around (on web) for answer, tried related solutions (hotfixes for similar but not same problems) etc, but noting fixes this.

• HTTPS subdomain does not load site under HTTP

  I recently installed an SSL certificate on a subdomain following the steps at cPanel. Lets just say the domain is example.com and the subdomain is sub.example.com. I updated the userdata file for the subdomain and changed the IP address to the IP I wanted to use I updated the example.com zone file and changed the IP for the A Name for the subdomain to the IP I wanted to use Using domain tools I checked that sub.example.com resolved to the new IP which it does. I then installed an SSL certificate on example.com and then on sub.example.com When I visit http://sub.example.com I get the default Apache account screen, and when I visit https://sub.example.com I get the cPanel 404 page. If however I enter https://sub.example.com/admin (the location of my admin section) the page loads and I can login. I thought that this might be a propagation issue however as the subdomain resolves to the IP and I can reach the admin page I suspect it is not a propagation issue and possibly an incorrect zone file. Any thoughts?
