• Attaching user data to AXObserver

  I am using an AXObserver to monitor when a window is closed. In the callback, I am just raising an NSNotification. All working well. What is the correct syntax for attaching some user data as refcon? The working call looks like this: err6 = AXObserverAddNotification(observerTable, tableRef, kAXUIElementDestroyedNotification, nil); and the callback specified when I create the observer has the signature: static void cbTableClosed (AXObserverRef observer, AXUIElementRef element, CFStringRef notification, void *refcon) I want to replace refcon with an object of my own, but don't know how to change either line. The obvious objective-c type changes through up warnings.

• Open source C compiler in C#?

  I've been getting into compiler creation. I've found some terrific beginner stuff and advanced stuff but nothing in the middle. I've created 3 different simple proof-of-concept compilers for toy languages but I want to expose myself to something real. The most straight forward real language in terms of syntax seems to be C. Since the language I'm most comfortable with right now is C#, I'd love to study the source code of a real non-tutorial C compiler written in C#. Does one (with source code available) exist?

  Hi, I have the following scenario: a table of projects and a table of persons, working on one or serveral projects. Also, I have a project id column (of type int), in the first table, which is a primary key there and I have a vector of project ids, as a column of type int, in my second table (persons), that references primary keys from the first table. What is the correct syntax for referencing multiple primary keys, from a vector foreign key. This is the way I am trying to create the table, but I am not sure what to place at the indicated line: CREATE TABLE Persons( Person_Id int, ..., ProjectsList int[], FOREIGN KEY (ProjectsList) REFERENCES Projects(Project_id) -- not sure what how to define the link here ); I hope my explanations are not over-complicated. • Clean install of IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 ignoring 'web.config'?

  Hi, Any help with this would be really appreciated! As the title suggests, I'm running a brand new install of Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and I'm basically attempting to mirror a live web server onto a new internal development server, which runs the same setup. It's an ASP.NET site that relies heavily on URL rewriting (using Intelligencia). ASP.NET is set to run on v2.0.50727 on both servers. I've tried intentionally introduce syntax errors into the web.config and it just appears to be ignoring them completely, so given IIS 6 doesn't read the web.config, the rest of the site doesn't work at all (I get a 404 error, as a 'Default.aspx' doesn't exist since the web.config handles the default page rewriting). Having looked at the Application Mapping, '.config' files are set to use the default 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll' which exists. Is there anything else I may be missing? Thanks in advance.

• Rails 3: Validate combined values

  In Rails 2.x you can use validations to make sure you have a unique combined value like this: validates_uniqueness_of :husband, :scope => :wife In the corresponding migration it could look like this: add_index :family, [:husband, :wife], :unique => true This would make sure the husband/wife combination is unique in the database. Now, in Rails 3 the validation syntax changed and the scope attribute seems to be gone. It now looks like: validates :husband, :presence => true Any idea how I can achieve the combined validation in Rails 3? The Rails 2.x validations still work in Rails 3 so I can still use the first example but it looks so "old", are there better ways?

• Help porting a bit of Prototype JavaScript to jQuery

  I have already implemented some AJAX pagination in my Rails app by using the example code for the will_paginate plugin--which is apparently using Prototype. But if I wanted to switch to using jQuery for future additions, I really don't want to have the Prototype stuff sitting around too (yes, I know it's possible). • Looking for marg_setValue fix in iPhoneOS

  I am trying to compile a library originally written for Cocoa. Things are good until it looks for the function marg_setValue(). It says there is a syntax error before char in marg_setValue(argumentList,argumentOffset,char,(char)lua_toboolean(state,luaArgument)); (it's talking about the third argument, not (char) ) I am trying to port LuaObjectiveCBridge to the iPhone. It has two choices, either using Runtime or Foundation. I have discovered there are some problems with foundation so I am trying runtime. But the compiler is not co-operating.

The zero part is working, but I can't figure out the syntax for rows that have an index greater than 0. For the tr[0] row, I'm doing this: if($("#mytable > tbody > tr ").index(0)) { ... • Is there a way to avoid IE7 quirks mode while rendering XML + CSS?

  I've got some DocBook documentation styled with a CSS xml-stylesheet declaration. It looks great in Firefox, but IE7 doesn't seem to understand the CSS child selectors (e.g. section > title { ... }). I think this is because IE is running in quirks mode to render this XML, and older versions of IE didn't support that CSS syntax at all. The pages I found on the web all seem to focus on HTML and XHTML doctypes and how IE will behave given various permutations of these values. I couldn't find any information about straight XML + CSS. Worse yet, it seems that random XML documents always end up in quirks mode, no matter what format or stylesheet directives they have. Is XML rendering in IE doomed to be IE5.5 compatible? Will I really have to rewrite my CSS?

• Detach subdirectory into separate Git repository

  I have a Git repository which contains a number of subdirectories. Now I have found that one of the subdirectories is unrelated to the other and should be detached to a separate repository. How can I do this while keeping the history of the files within the subdirectory? I guess I could make a clone and remove the unwanted parts of each clone, but I suppose this would give me the complete tree when checking out an older revision etc. This might be acceptable, but I would prefer to be able to pretend that the two repositories doesn't have a shared history. Just to make it clear, I have the following structure: XYZ/ .git/ XY1/ ABC/ XY2/ But I would like this instead: XYZ/ .git/ XY1/ XY2/ ABC/ .git/

For this I got ./foo.sh: No such file or directory So I changed it to: #! /bin/sh #Call the other script foo.sh # do something ... But this would call the foo script which is, by default, in the PATH. This is not what I want. So the question is, what's the syntax of doing './` in a shell script?

• simple EJB jar deployed in jboss with its own log4j configuration

  Hi All I have a simple EJB jar with a stateless session bean, deployed in JBOSS AS 4.2.2, unde r/server/default/deploy. The bean is registered under JNDI tree as viewed from jboss jmx console and I am able to access it through a remote java client outside JBOSS. Inside EJB jar, I have added some logging to be written to a separate log file, using apache log4j jar and log4j.xml. But I am not able to view any of the logs. Also I do not wish to use jboss-log4j.xml, since there will be many other EJBs to be deployed and wish to have separate log4j for each EJB application. Here is my one of the EJB-jar contents: EJB_DS.jar: log4j.xml classes apache log4j jar is added to /server/default/lib path.   I'm not sure if 'architecture' is the correct term, but I've been looking for some articles online which talk about programming design and more about how best to use languages such as JavaScript in a code design sense rather than the actual syntax itself. I have found many websites but a lot seem to be very out dated, and I'm not sure what developments have taken place with JavaScript over the years so do not know how old is too old. If anybody could suggest some great websites, or maybe specific articles you think would be useful, that would be highly appreciated. I am a beginner programmer currently using JavaScript with XML and of course HTML & CSS, and I'm currently trying to get further into and learn more about web development.

  Hello, I am looking for a book on advanced C programming that: Teaches how to effectively express one's solution in C when one already knows the language in depth. Shows some common design idioms expressed in C, like encapsulation, modularity and that kind of thing. Is example-driven with a lot of good-quality code. I already know the language itself so books like otherwise wonderful "Expert C Programming" by Peter van der Linden is not really what i am looking for. What i need is a book on how to express my design in C, what are the common idioms, best practices, etc. I would also like to note that i am primarily interested in C, not C++, C#, Objective-C or any other languages inspired by C-like syntax.   I've read about it from the php website (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/language.basic-syntax.phpmode.php) Using: echo "<html tag>" is slower and also annoying because you got to escape char like " with \" But what's about using $output = <<< EOF <html code> EOF; Then later on in the code I can use $output .= <<< EOF <some more html code> EOF; then when I want to print it: echo "$output"; I think it's a great idea, but really wonder what you PHP guru think about it.   Hi, Can somebody tell me how to rename the DB server instance name and a DB name in MSSQL 2005? Right Now I Have SERVER/OLDNAME -- oldnameDB I want to change the server instance and also change the db name. I have tried: EXEC sp_renamedb 'oldName', 'newName' and that has changed the dbname as it appers in the tree directory. But, when I do "select @@servername" it is the old name. Also, the MDF and LDF files are still the old name. How do change instance and db names as a clean sweep across the server? Thanks.

• Cannot position Google +1 button with CSS?

  I'm having some trouble positioning the Google +1 button on my website. The div is as follows: <div class="g-plusone"></div> The CSS I'm using is pretty simple: .g-plusone { position: absolute; top:95px; left:715px; } I know for a fact that the div in question is being accessed. What's strange is that other social sharing buttons, such as the FB like below follow the same syntax and are positioned perfectly. .fb-like { position: absolute; top:62px; left:715px; } Any ideas?

  Hey, I'm making an e-shop and to display the tree of categories and all the products with their multiple variations of prices I made like more than 150 mysql_query("SELECT ..."); queries on one page. (If I count the "while" loops). Is it too many, and if yes, can it have any negative effect? (ofc. it takes longer to load the data ..)   I have 4 serailized arrays that I want to pass to php for processing. What is the best way to combine them into a single array example: serial_1 = $('#col1').sortable('serialize'); serial_2 = $('#col2').sortable('serialize'); serial_3 = $('#col3').sortable('serialize'); serial_4 = $('#col4').sortable('serialize');` each serialized array relates to a column/section of the page (col1,col2 etc.) What I need to do/would like to do is create a single array that puts the serialized array inside another array for a single post. example: var new_array = serilaize(col_1(serial_1),col2(serial_2),col3,(serial_3),col4(serial_4)) I KNOW THAT IS NOT RIGHT as I have no idea in JQuery how to right the correct syntax. • Rewrite rules doesn't work apache 1.3

  I'm using a couple of rewrite directives that always works before on apache2 but now i'm uploaded to a shared hosting and the rewrite rules do not seem to get applied. I've reduced the my .htaccess files to the following essential rules: RewriteEngine On Rewritebase /demo/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] As you can see, i want to rewrite every request to my index.php file in the demo folder from root. So everything like http://www.example.com/demo/albums/show/1 should be processed by http://www.example.com/demo/index.php for a standard MVC setup. (I'm using CodeIgniter btw) The directives above results in a 500 error, so i thought maybe because of some possible syntax differences between 1.3 and 2.x. After some trail and error editing, i've found the rewrite rule itself to be at fault but i really don't understand why. Any ideas to why my rewrite rule doesn't work? it did before on lots of different servers. Suggestions how to fix it? Note: mod_rewrite does work, i've written a small test to be sure.

• C / JSON Library in popular Linux distros?

  I have a program written in C that has to input and output JSON over a local domain socket. I've found several C / JSON libraries that 'almost work' through searches. Prior to taking one of the libraries that I found .. I want to be sure that I'm not over-looking a library that is commonly found on modern Linux distros. I'd also really appreciate links to libraries that you use. Most likely, I'll just drop it in tree, unless I realize that I've over looked something widely distributed. I am tagging this as subjective because the answer that I select is the one linking to a library that works for me, that does not mean its the 'best' library. I want to take an existing array and easily convert it to a buffer that can be sent, or take a buffer and easily convert it into an allocated array. Thanks in advance!

  Hi, Does anyone know of a solid C# library / approach to manage a hierarchy/web type collection? This would be a library that would basic consist of the concept of nodes & relationships, for example to model web pages/files linked under a URL, or modeling IT infrastructure. It would have key methods such as: Node.GetDirectParents() Node.GetRootParents() Node.GetDirectChildren() Node.GetAllChildren() So it's smarts would include the ability to "walk the tree" of nodes based on the relationships when someone does ask for "give me all the children under this node" for example. It ideally include a persistence layer, to save/retrieve such data to/from a databases (e.g. with a Nodes and Relationships table). Thanks
