• Google App Engine, parsedatetime and TimeZones

  Hey guys, I'm working on a Google App Engine / Django app and I encountered the following problem: In my html I have an input for time. The input is free text - the user types "in 1 hour" or "tomorrow at 11am". The text is then sent to the server in AJAX, which parses it using this python library: http://code.google.com/p/parsedatetime/. Once parsed, the server returns an epoch timestamp of the time. Here is the problem - Google App Engine always runs on UTC. Therefore, lets say that the local time is now 11am and the UTC time is 2am. When I send "now" to the server it will return "2am", which is good because I want the date to be received in UTC time. When I send "in 1 hour" the server will return "3am" which is good, again. However, when I send "at noon" the server will return "12pm" because it thinks that I'm talking about noon UTC - but really I need it to return 3am, which is noon for the request sender.. I can pass on the TZ of the browser that sends the request, but that wont really help me - the parsedatetime library wont take a timezone argument (correct me if I'm wrong). Is there a walk around this? Maybe setting the environments TZ somehow? Thanks!

I want to split it so that each set of hash-started lines becomes a list: I can haz a listz0rs! <ul> <li>42</li> <li>126</li> </ul> I can haz another list plox? <ul> <li>Hello, world!</li> <li>Welcome!</li> </ul> If I run the input against the regex "/(?:(?:(?<=^# )(.*)$)+)/m", I get the following result: Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => 42 ) Array ( [0] => 126 ) Array ( [0] => Hello, world! ) Array ( [0] => Welcome! ) ) This is fine and dandy, but it doesn't distinguish between the two different lists. I need a way to either make the quantifier return a concatenated string of all the occurrences, or, ideally, an array of all the occurrences. Idealy, this should be my output: Array ( [0] = Array ( [0] = 42 [1] = 126 ) Array ( [0] = Hello, world! [1] = Welcome! ) ) Is there any way of achieving this, and if not, is there a close alternative? Thanks in advance!

Thanks to the alert('contentWindow is null') call in the JS function, I know that the object I'm getting in IE has no contentWindow property. I have tried changing the object tag to an iframe tag. This changes the JS behaviour, but causes other issues such as the height attribute being ignored and the content not displaying. Sticking with an object tag, how can I get this Object's window in IE7?

  Hi, I have a submission form on my website (index.php) and I have the data(user submissions) being stored into a MySQL database. Right now, I have the user submitting a post and then the page directs them to an update.php which shows what they inputed. However, I want all of the data in the database in MySQL to be shown on the index.php. It's a lot like a comment system. User submits a post... and sees their post above the other submitted posts all on the same page. I think I'm missing AJAX... ?   I'm having a hard time understanding why the following code doesn't work. I'm sure it's something remedial that I'm missing or not understanding. I currently have a page that asks for user input. If, based on the input and logged in user, I find data from this page already in the database, I need to update the existing records rather than creating new ones, so I set a class-level bool to true. The problem is, when MyNextButton is clicked, PreviouslySubmitted is still false. So, I'm not sure how to make the value of this variable persist.   I have a table named ActivityRecording. This table currently has 500,000 records. I need to add a lot of new inputs that relates to activityrecording table. The relation of activityrecording with these new input fields is 1 to 0,1. So, what's going to happen on screen is when user fills the ActivityRecording data, he will then be taken to a new page and this page will show a form based on the user's input (from a dropdown named service) in activityrecording. There will 6 different kinds of form (each form will have 7-8 inputs which includes textareas of size 5kb, textboxes and checkboxes). So, for one activityrecording user will fill one out of 6 forms. There are two ways I know (there could be more), I can design the data structure: Add all the inputs from all these 6 forms into the activityrecording table. So, columns belonging to 5 of these forms will be null in this table, only columns belonging to one of the forms will have values The other way would be add 6 new tables (one for each form) and add 6 foreign key columns to activityrecording table. So, out of 6 foreign keys, 5 will be null and one will actually point to a table Which approach is a better data structure design? Please take into consideration that number of rows in this table are 500,000 and are expected to grow at a faster rate now.

• Using a randomly generated token for flood control.

  Basic setup of my site is: user enters a message on the homepage, hits enter and the message is sent though a AJAX request to a file called like.php where it echo's a link that gets sent back to the user. I have made the input disable when the user presses enter, but there's nothing stopping the user from just constantly flooding like.php with POST request and filling up my database. Someone here on SO told me to use a token system but didn't mention how. I've seen this being done before and from what I know it is effective. The only problem I have is how will like.php know it's a valid token? My code is this at the moment: $token = md5(rand(0, 9999) * 1000000); and the markup: <input type="hidden" name="token" value="<?php echo $token ?>" /> Which will send the token to like.php through POST. But how will like.php know that this is a valid token? Should I instead token something that's linked to the user? Like their IP address? Or perhaps token the current minute and check that it's the same minute in like.php... Any help on this amtter would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)

  I need to visualize some scientific calculations. I generally prefer reusing code if there is already a good available instead of inventing wheels each time, that's why I am asking. I need a C# code to draw charts (just outputting a bitmap is ok) of 2d (y=f(x)) and 3d (z=f(x,y)) digital data sets (where any axis can be float, int or datetime), sometimes combined. If I go here and click 3D in the navigation bar on the left, there I can see what I need. But the cheapest version costs $759 there, looks scary for a hobby project of an east-european student :-(

  I was trying very hard to think of a solution for my problem but have drain all my brain cells into this...What happen is: I have a CK editor where it allows user to input both text and images. A good example would be http://ckeditor.com/demo. Something like the red riding good example in the demo. I would like to have text surrounding the image like the example. With CK editor, user can now do that. However, now they will submit the changes and i was wondering how should I save the data? What i have found: After reading my articles and solutions on the web, all the experts would advise not to put image into the mysql database together with the text. I would like to ask if this is the case what should I do to extract the text from the ck editor and store it into mysql database and separately store the images into my web server? I know how to retrieve text from mysql database. But how do you put the retrieved text abd images together such as it appears to be how the user have input in CK editor?? Guys I am sorry if my question is confusing you or is making you angry because i admit I am really a newbie in this and I will learn all that I can...Thanks for all your advice and teachings.

  I'm scanning a text document for certain installed programs on a computer and looking for an easy way to include a greater or less than variable in the string I'm scanning for. Here is a very ugly and cumbersome example of what I'm using currently and while it works as a temporary fix, isn't practical or sustainable. I have successfully managed to create a new FileReader, but I don't know how to upload the file. • Passing data between objects in Chain of Responsibility pattern

  While implementing the Chain of Responsibility pattern, i came across a dilemma om how to pass data between objects in the chain. The datatypes passed between object in the chain can differ for each object. As a temporary fix I had created a Static class containing a stack where each object in the chain can push the results to the stack while the next object in the chain could pop the results from the stack. Here is a sample code on what I had implemented. public interface IHandler { void Process(); } public static class StackManager { public static Stack DataStack = new Stack(); } //This class doesn't require any input to operate public class OpsA : IHandler { public IHandler Successor {get; set; } public void Process() { //Do some processing, store the result into Stack var ProcessedData = DoSomeOperation(); StackManager.DataStack.Push(ProcessedData); if(Successor != null) Successor(); } } //This class require input data to operate upon public class OpsB : IHandler { public IHandler Successor {get; set; } public void Process() { //Retrieve the results from the previous Operation var InputData = StackManager.DataStack.Pop(); //Do some processing, store the result into Stack var NewProcessedData = DoMoreProcessing(InputData); StackManager.DataStack.Push(NewProcessedData); if(Successor != null) Successor(); } } public class ChainOfResponsibilityPattern { public void Process() { IHandler ProcessA = new OpsA(); IHandler ProcessB = new OpsB(); ProcessA.Successor = ProcessB; ProcessA.Process(); } } Please help me to find a better approach to pass data between handlers objects in the chain.

• Form submit capture into database not working

  Hi guys, I have a form that has two buttons on it, one yes, one no, and at the moment I capture the clicked button into a database, but for some reason, it doesn't always capture the clicked button, I have gone through all my code and everything seems fine, here is the form <div id="mid_prompt"> <form action="refer.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: left;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/yes.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="yes" /></span> </div> </form> <form action="thank_you.php" method="post" onsubmit="return submit_form()" > <div class="prompt_container" style="float: right;"> <span class="prompt_item"><input type="image" src="images/no.jpg" alt="submit" name="refer" value="no" /></span> </div> </form> </div> I am using sessions to carry the variables all the way to the end of the forms where I then write all the data to a database, I have checked my sessions and they seem to be working fine, the only one that is giving problems is the yes/no. So basically I need it to capture that yes/no everytime. Thanx in advance!

• how to apply iddata into calculation?

  I am trying to figure out how to combine the input and output data into the ARX model and then apply it into the BIC (Bayesian Information Criterion) formula. Below is the code that I am currently working on: for i=1:30; %% Set Model Order data=iddata(output,input,1); model = arx(data,[8 9 i]); yp = predict(model,data); ye = regress(data,yp{1,1}(1:4018,1)); M(i) = var(yp); BIC(i)=(N+i*(log(N)-1))/(N-i)*log(M(i)); end But it does not work. It keep on giving me an error something like below: "The syntax "Data{...}" is not supported. Use the "getexp" command to extract individual experiments from an IDDATA object." I did not understand what does that mean. Can someone explain it to me and where do I do wrong on my piece of code? Thanks in advance. Sam.
