  • Can a stylesheet for handhelds skip loading images

    I have a stylesheet for desktops, and another for handhelds. The web page displays some images when displayed on the desktop, but hides those images when displayed on handhelds. The page appears as designed for both desktops and handhelds. When I check the server logs, I find that the handheld is actually still loading the images, just not displaying them. Is there a way to stop the handheld from loading the images entirely, since it doesn't need them, without having to maintain two sets of web pages? Can it be done using just stylesheets?   • IE7,8 Alpha PNG fade

    Does anyone know what is causing this issue? http://i.imgur.com/z1pzh.png The div in question has a solid 1x1 alpha opaque png repeating in its background-image property, and it's supposed to be all one bg color, not that fading effect. It doesn't appear in FF, Opera or Chrome. If you need more details, I can provide some CSS, but I assure you the CSS is in order. If someone doesn't just out-and-out know why this is happening, they more than likely won't find an answer looking in the code.

    I want to make some jQuery that shows some table rows and hides others based on the content of the first table cell in each row. When I click a list item I want jQuery to check if the first letter of the item matches the first letter in any table cell in my markup, if so the parent table row should be shown and other rows should be hidden. So there will be two simultaneous events. Is it possible to get inside event handler array of objects (DIVs) what have click event? May be it is possible using other framework but jQuery?

  • Right Hand Column Does Not Align Properly in IE6/7/8

    Hi Guys, I'm new to this but here goes. I have been developing this website http://www.panelmaster.co.uk and i have managed to solve the majority of design problems but one! If you take a look at the site in IE the right column seems to drop down and is not aligned with the right and centre column. This problem only occurs in IE as upon testing i found it was fine in firefox and safari. I have provided below the CSS for the website. I would appreciate if you guys can help me with the problem.     I want to make an XMLHttpRequest to a secure uri (https://site.com/ajaxservice/) from javascript running inside a nonsecure page (http://site.com/page.htm). I've tried all kinds of nutty stuff like iframes and dynamic script elements, so far no go. I know I am violating 'same origin policy' but there must be some way to make this work. I will take any kind of wacky solution short of having the SSL protocol written in javascript.

  • Double Slash at end of URL when going to HTTPS?

    My site currently uses http and https sections based on the data being collected on the site (form data uses https). On my index page, I have the PHP code at the top: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 443) { header('Location:http://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> However, the page will not load and I get a 404 error. Similarly, when i visit the sections with https security using the head code: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 80) { header('Location:https://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']).'/'.basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> The site does not respond AND for some reason creates a double slash when switching from http to https. Example: http://www.abc.com/, then clicking button which should route to enroll.php shows http://www.abc.com//enroll.php why the need for the double slash and can anybody help with the 404 errors?

    I have a new client with an old website using massive amounts of tables and inline styles. Some page weigh over 3MB due to huge backgrounds and other large images. I suggested they at least compress the files to speed up the site but they're convinced it's fast. Since they have 13Mbit connection at the office everything seems fast. I'm looking for a tweak, program or web app capable of loading pages at varying speeds so they understand how it might load for slower DSL or (gasp) dialup users. Thanks for any help!

  • Page content layout issues

    I'm designing a theme for a blog and I'm having some trouble trying to get a layout working. Here's an image of what I want. This diagram represents the individual posts and not the website itself, so it will be contained in a box of it's own, lets call it .container. Also the purple and green are in another box, let's call it .content. The other elements will be called by their color for now. so here's more or less what the CSS looks like: .container { display:block; margin:0 25px; } .gray, .blue, .content { display:block; width:100%; } .purple { display:inline-block; width:125px; height:100%; text-align:center; } .green { display:inline-block; } That's all there is at the moment. I tried float but that made no effect. What's happening is something like this. Here's a few more things you should know: .container's width is NOT set it is auto .purple and .green don't necessarily need to be the same size as long as .green doesn't go to that side. .purple CAN have a set height .green is where the meat is, that's where the actual post goes, keep that in mind. I don't think tables will help, the problem is inside .content.
