• ASP.NET MVC Deployed Application Server Address

  I have an application that sends an email to a user so that they may access a web form. In the email there is just a link to the start page of this form. Currently, I have the value for the form location hardcoded. Once the app is deployed I know it is in inetpub/wwwroot/appName, which results in a URL of serverip:appPort/appName. What is the C# to get the serverip:appPort portion of the URL that I need? I think that server.mappath() might work, but for some reason I can't get to the method even though I have the necessary references.

  Hi! I'm trying to refactor some code and move some of my before_filter's from the controller to a class. Before: class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter :find_user def find_user @user = User.find(params[:id]) end end ... After class FindUserFilter def self.filter(controller) @user = User.find(params[:id]) end end class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter FindUserFilter end class GuestbookController < ApplicationController before_filter FindUserFilter end This results in an error because neither params[:id] nor @user is available/definable in the FindUserFilter-class. Any idea how to fix this?

Find the code of the operations that have been done on the 18th of November 2010 and have been successful, please also list the name of the doctors which were involved with the operation.

• mySQL Left Join on multiple tables

  Hi I'm really struggling with this query. I have 4 tables (http://oberto.co.nz/db-sql.png): Invoice_Payement, Invoice, Client and Calendar. I'm trying to create a report by summing up the 'paid_amount' col, in Invoice_Payment, by month/year. The query needs to include all months, even those with no data There query needs the condition (Invoice table): registered_id = [id] I have tried with the below query, which works, but falls short when 'paid_date' does not have any records for a month. The outcome is that month does not show in the results I added a Calendar table to resolved this but not sure how to left join to it. SELECT MONTHNAME(Invoice_Payments.date_paid) as month, SUM(Invoice_Payments.paid_amount) AS total FROM Invoice, Client, Invoice_Payments WHERE Client.registered_id = 1 AND Client.id = Invoice.client_id And Invoice.id = Invoice_Payments.invoice_id AND date_paid IS NOT NULL GROUP BY YEAR(Invoice_Payments.date_paid), MONTH(Invoice_Payments.date_paid) Please see the above link for a basic ERD diagram of my scenario. • Is it possible to have a tableless select with multiple rows?

  A SELECT without a FROM clause gets us a multiple columns without querying a table: SELECT 17+23, REPLACE('bannanna', 'nn', 'n'), RAND(), CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; How can we write a query that results in multiple rows without referring to a table? Basically, abuse SELECT to turn it into a data definition statement. The result could have a single column or multiple columns. I'm most interested in a DBMS neutral answer, but others (e.g. based on UNPIVOT) are welcome. There's no technique application behind this question; it's more theoretical than practical.

Web layout request next string: "Ivanov a" or "A Ivanov" But i suggest for user choose you pattetn for query. How i can to get "patient by name" if name consist of "First name" and "Last name" but user doesn't know your doctor's full name?

• [PHP] Condition for array with string as keys

  My PL/SQL procedure returns a cursor. It always returns data. I fetch (oci_fetch_assoc) it and save it in an array. If results were found the keys of the array will be strings. If the cursor didn't find data, it will return value 0, thus the key of the array will be numeric. while($data = oci_fetch_assoc($cursor)){ if(!isset($data[0])){ ... } ... ... } What's the best way to check that the array is not just 0, but contains data? • Difference between BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE and BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION?

  Can anyone describe the difference in behavior between BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE and BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION? The documentation implies the that both macros treat their third parameter identically, which makes me suspect the documentation is wrong. In particular, BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION gives me some odd looking results: error in "...": difference between *expected{0} and *actual{-1.7763568394002506e-16} exceeds 9.9999999999999995e-07 Is there a gotcha because I expect a zero result? I've not been successful at reading through the underlying macro declarations. Please note BOOST_CHECK_SMALL isn't appropriate for my use case (comparing two vectors after a linear algebra operation).

• How do I throttle my site's API users?

  The legitimate users of my site occasionally hammer the server with API requests that cause undesirable results. I want to institute a limit of no more than say one API call every 5 seconds or n calls per minute (haven't figured out the exact limit yet). I could obviously log every API call in a DB and do the calculation on every request to see if they're over the limit, but all this extra overhead on EVERY request would be defeating the purpose. What are other less resource-intensive methods I could use to institute a limit? I'm using PHP/Apache/Linux, for what it's worth.

  what is the best way to find out which terms in a query matched against a given document returned as a hit in lucene? I have tried a weird method involving hit highlighting package in lucene contrib and also a method that searches for every word in the query against the top most document ("docId: xy AND description: each_word_in_query"). Do not get satisfactory results? hit highlighting does not report some of the words that matched for a document other than the first one. i am not sure if the second approach is the best alternative.

  I want to be able to search through a MySQL table using values from a search string, from the url and display the results as an XML output. I think I have got the formatting and declaring the variables from the search string down. The issue I have is searching the entire table, I've looked over SO for previous answers, and they all seem to have to declare each column in the table to search through. So for example my database layout is as follows: **filesindex** -filename -creation -length -wall -playlocation First of all would the following be appropriate: $query = "SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE filename LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE creation LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE length LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE wall LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE location LIKE '".$searchterm."%'"; Or ideally, is there an easier way that involves less hardcoding to search a table. I would like to make an application that takes screenshots and perform OCR on those using Tesseract. Ideally, it would be in Java or C#, but I can also do it in C++ or Python if needed. What is the easiest way to get started with this library ? I am looking for a detailed tutorial or a sample project that uses tesseract.

I downloaded a PHP proxy script from the Yahoo Developer site, ran it from command line and verified that it receives the XML from the server with a GET request. Now, I'm trying to connect to the PHP script within JS with no results. I have the following: <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.4.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $.ajax({ type:"GET", url:"proxy.php", dataType:"html", success:function(msg){ alert(msg); } }); </script> What this does, though, is to output the source of the PHP script in the alert box, not the XML! • Jquery Uploader not saving to a folder in the site root

  im trying to integrate the Jquery Uploader into my website http://blueimp.github.com/jQuery-File-Upload/ The problem I am having is that I cant seem to get it save the folder I want to to save to. In the UploadHander.php I have the following settings 'script_url' => $this->get_full_url().'/', 'upload_dir' => dirname($_SERVER['SCRIPT_FILENAME']).'./images/machinery/', 'upload_url' => $this->get_full_url().'./images/machinery/', This results in an image uploaded url that looks like this http://domain.com/rcsetch/up/server/php/machinery/image.jpg Other than putting my php files in the root of the website, im not sure how to get it to work, as what I want it to do is upload the files to http://domain.com/images/machinery and not to the create a folder in the directory where all the php files for the uploader are located.

• PHP pathinfo gets fooled by url in quert string. Any workaround?

  I am working on a small function to take in a url and return a relative path based on where it resides itself. If the url contains a path in the query string, pathinfo returns incorrect results. This is demonstrated by the code below: $p = 'http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir/afile.txt'; $my_path_info = pathinfo($p); echo $p . '<br/><pre>'; print_r($my_path_info); echo '</pre>'; That code outputs: http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir/afile.txt Array ( [dirname] => http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir [basename] => afile.txt [extension] => txt [filename] => afile ) Which obviously is wrong. Any workaround?

  Goal: Install Hunchentoot and be able to run Hunchentoot as a background thread. This is what I do: Install Common Lisp. Install Quicklisp. (ql:quickload "hunchentoot") (hunchentoot:start (make-instance 'hunchentoot:acceptor :port 4242)) The last command is supposed to start Hunchentoot, then return to the interpreter for further Common Lisp forms. For CLISP, SBCL, ABCL, ECL, and CCL, I get one of two results: Hunchentoot's dependency Bordeaux Threads fails to install. hunchentoot:start hangs. The web page never loads, and never 404s.

• Get data types from arbitrary sql statement in SQL Server 2008

  Given some arbitrary SQL I would like to get the data types of the returned columns. The statement might join many tables, views, TVFs, etc. I know I could create a view based on the query and get the datatypes from that, hoping there's a quicker way. Only think I've been able to think of is writing a .net utility to run the SQL and examine the results, wondering if there is a TSQL answer. i.e. Given (not real tables just an example) SELECT p.Name AS PersonName, p.Age, a.Account as AccountName FROM Person as p LEFT JOIN Account as a ON p.Id = a.OwnerId I would like to have something like PersonName: (nvarchar(255), not null) Age: (smallInt, not null) etc...

• How to code a batch file to copy and rename the most recently dated file?

  I'm trying to code a batch file to copy only the most recently dated file in a given folder to another directory on the local machine, and simultaneously rename it as it does. I've found a very similar question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97371/batch-script-to-copy-newest-file and have managed to cobble together the below code from other forums too, but have hit a brick wall as it only results in the batch file itself being copied to the destination folder. It doesn't matter to me where the batch file itself sits in order for this to run. The source folder is C:! BATCH and the destination folder is C:\DROP The code is below, apologies if this is a glaringly obvious answer but it's literally the first foray into coding batch files for me... • How good is my method of embedding version numbers into my application using Mercurial hooks?

  This is not quite a specifc question, and more me like for a criticism of my current approach. I would like to include the program version number in the program I am developing. This is not a commercial product, but a research application so it is important to know which version generated the results. My method works as follows: There is a "pre-commit" hook in my .hg/hgrc file link to .hg/version_gen.sh version_gen.sh consists solely of: hg parent --template "r{rev}_{date|shortdate}" > version.num In the makefile, the line version="%__VERSION__% in the main script is replaced with the content of the version.num file. Are there better ways of doing this? The only real short coming I can see is that if you only commit a specfic file, version.num will be updated, but it won't be commited, and if I tried to add always committing that file, that would result in an infite loop (unless I created some temp file to indicate I was already in a commit, but that seems ugly...).

  I'm trying to print Invoices in a Java Swing applications. I do that by extending Printable and implement the method public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int page). I would like to draw strings in columns, and when the string is to long I want to clip it and let it end with "...". How can I measure the string and clip it at the right position? Some of my code: Font headline = new Font("Times New Roman", Font.BOLD, 14); g2d.setFont(headline); FontMetrics metrics = g2d.getFontMetrics(headline); g2d.drawString(myString, 0, 20); I.e How can I limit myString to be max 120px? I could use metrics.stringWidth(myString), but I don't get the position where I have to clip the string. Expected results could be: A longer string that exc... A shorter string. • Restoring Mac-bootcamp-windows-partition image to Windows machine

  Hi, I'm running Windows XP sp3 on my mac using bootcamp. Objective: I'd like to move this partition to a windows machine. This is what I tried: 1. create image using winclone 2. restore drive to disk partition on windows machine using paragon 3. reboot from new partition Results: it attempts to boot in XP (windows flag and progress bar load screen) but then gives me the old BSOD. safe mode just hangs while loading. (I then uninstalled KB977165 on a hunch, but that did nothing to help the issue.) Any ideas, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• How to move from untyped DataSets to POCO\LINQ2SQL in legacy application

I've a legacy application where data access layer consists of classes where queries are done using SqlConnection/SqlCommand and results are passed to upper layers wrapped in untyped DataSets/DataTable. Now I'm working on integrating this application into newer one where written in ASP.NET MVC 2 where LINQ2SQL is used for data access. I don't want to rewrite fancy logic of generating complex queries that are passed to SqlConnection/SqlCommand in LINQ2SQL (and don't have permission to do this), but I'd like to have result of these queries as strong-typed objects collection instead of untyped DataSets/DataTable. The basic idea is to wrap old data access code in a nice-looking from ASP.NET MVC "Model". What is the fast\easy way of doing this?
