• Installing NVIDIA driver causes black screen (750M)

  I have a dual boot set up on a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 with NVIDIA 750M and I am having problems installing the graphics cards. I have made sure to install both linux-headers-generic and linux-source, and yet have ended up with a black screen whether I install nvidia-current, nvidia-current-updates, nvidia-experimental-310, and nvidia-319. I even tried enabling proprietary drivers through settings and still ended up with a black screen on boot. Is my graphics card just not supported yet, or is there a way to fix this?

  I have the following code auto adder = [](string& s1, const string& s2)->string&& { if (!s1.empty()) s1 += " "; s1 += s2; return move(s1); }; string test; test.reserve(wordArray.size() * 10); string words = accumulate(wordArray.begin(), wordArray.end(), move(test), adder); What I would like here is to avoid string copying. Unfortunately this is not accomplished by the vs2012 implementation of accumulate. Internally accumulate calls another function _Accumulate and the rvalue functionality gets lost in the process. It I instead call the _Accumulate function like so string words = Accumulate(wordArray.begin(), wordArray.end(), move(test), adder); I get the intended performance gain. Must the std library be rewritten to take rvalue arguments into consideration? Is there some other way I may use accumulate to accomplish what I want without cheating to much?

  We are currently deploying a WPF 4 app via click once and there is a scenario when the installation fails. If the user does not have .Net 4.0 Full install and attempts to install our app the framework installs fine but the app fails to install. If we re-run the installation again the app installs fine.   We're using mod_authnz_ldap and mod_authn_alias in Apache 2.2.9 (as shipped in Debian 5.0, 2.2.9-10+lenny7) to authenticate against multiple Active Directory domains for hosting a Subversion repository.   How do I make the "change order" button appear in SharePoint 2010? I have followed a guide that allowed me to add OrderedList="TRUE" to my list template. This makes it possible to select "Allow users to order items in this view" for my view. But the change order button is still missing. Any idears on what I am missing? I am using SharePoint 2010 and the guide is from 2006, so that might explain why it doesn't just work. The guide from tech-archive.net.

  I have a SharePoint 2010 site with a document library for storing Excel files. If someone is editing an Excel file (using stand-alone Excel, not Excel services), everyone else will be forced to open the file read-only until the first person is done editing. Is there a way around this? What I want is to allow two or more people to be able to edit the file at the same time. Also, I don't want people to overwrite each other. Instead, I'd like SharePoint to merge their changes. Is this possible in SharePoint 2010?

• Mono on OS X Compatible with MSVC 2010 peers?

  I'm to begin .NET development at work but have the option of using MonoDevelop/Mono on OS X instead of MSVC 2010 on Windows and would prefer it because of my familiarity with OS X. We are likely going to use a number of popular frameworks, such as NHibernate and Castle DI - my question to those of you familiar with .NET development and Mono: will I be at much of a disadvantage? Are there strong incompatibilities or, with some "paper cuts", the two systems are roughly compatible? Again, my colleagues will be using MSVC 2010 and we intend on working on the same codebases together. Thanks for any insight you can give to this .NET newbie. EDIT: I should note I'll primarily be doing development with MVC 2, which I understand does work with Mono, and will have some leeward in choosing frameworks, i.e. I can avoid highly incompatible frameworks.

  I had previously asked this question. At the time I was working with VS 2008. To restate the question. I have a web application that generates 1000's of small xml files in a certain directory. I would like to exclude this directory from the web application project in visual studio 2010. With vs 2008 it was not possible. Has anything changed? Besides the general wait for VS to iterate through this directory and add an item in the solution explorer for each file, it also strains my system resources, so I would like to exclude it from the project, but the dir and files need to physically exist on disk, because they are part of the application. • What's the performance on USB docking stations, and can they be used when laptop is closed?

  I'm looking into a docking station for a Dell Studio laptop. I don't see the traditional docking stations I'm familiar with - the kind (for a Dell Latitude, for example) where you sit the laptop on top of a long row of pins. Instead, I'm seeing a lot of USB docking stations. When I close my laptop, I want it to go into sleep mode. If I then connect a USB docking station to the laptop while it's closed, will it wake up? What's the performance on USB 2.0 docking stations with a new Dell Studio? Can all of the video and internet traffic really go through a USB 2.0 connection while still providing the best video frame rates and internet speeds? When you undock, I assume you'd have to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows. Will that successfully 'remove' everything attached to the docking station - external drives, thumb drives, etc?

  Hi, I have downloaded the trial of Symantec BackupExec 2010 but I am a little confused: The agent for Hyper-V is available and for sale ($1800 or something), but the trial of BackupExec tells me i can install the agents I need from the installer. Can I install a full version of BackupExec, providing I have the license, but also install a full version of the Hyper-V agent? Or do I have to download/buy this seperately? Is a trial version available for the agents? As is probably obvious from this thread, I am a bit confused about the business model of this product. Please clarify. Thanks

  Hi! I'm trying to run an application made with Visual Basic 6.0 on a Windows 7 64 bit edition. The application is asking me for the DLL vb6es.dll. I have copied this file from a Windows XP into the C:\Windows\system32 directory, but I continue getting the same error. Searching on Google, I found the support statement of visual basic 6.0 on windows 7 and it says "32bit apps running in WOW only" for Windows 7 64 bit editions. What does this mean? Thanks.

• Notebook computer battery says: plugged in but not charging with no further information. Is the bat

  My 1.5 year old Dell Studio 15 notebook computer has a battery and I keep it attached to the notebook but 98% of the time I just plug in the power adapter. Lately when I unplugged the power adapter, the battery was only good for 10 minutes, and a few days ago, when I unplugged the power adapter, the computer simply turned off. When clicking on the battery icon on Win 7, it says "Plugged in, not charging": is the battery dead? Or can Win 7 have any option to not charge the battery? It is a Dell Studio 15, I wonder if in such case, it looks like it can be a manufacture's defect, would Dell replace the battery? (if there was a recall, then they probably would, i think). The notebook is 1.5 year old.
