• java.rmi.UnmarshalException: unable to pull client classes by server

  Hi, I have an RMI client/server set-up on two machines that works fine in a simple situation when the server doesn't require a client-side defned class. However, when I need to use a class defined on the client side I am unable to have the server unmarshall those classes. I suspect this is an issue with my java.rmi.server.codebase property that I pass in as argument to the client app. I followed Sun's RMI Tutorial trail and I think I have followed the steps exactly except that I don't specify a classpath argument when executing client and server because they execute in the directory right above the root package directory (however I tried that too with no effect). Note 3: I tried using myhostname:2002 since myhostname is assigned to the router and I have proper port-mapping set-up, this address should resolve to naples and not venice 2 try #2: naples$ java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:/Users/andrews/Development/Java/workspace/epsilon/bin/ -Djava.security.policy=client.policy test.myClient myhostname Note 1: the code base url format is correct, I created a small program to convert current file directory path into a url and used that. using file:///Users... has same effect. Other notes: 1 my server and client policy files correctly specify the path, as I've tested this setup with good and bad paths, and getting a security exception for bad path 2 this setup works if I don't use client-side defined objects, the client connects correctly to the server and the server executes. 3 when I place the client-side class on the server in the server's classpath, all executes fine. All help is appreciated.

I want to migrate a old ASP Web Solution with DCOM Connection to SAP from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2008 Server. When I try to install the DCOM Connector I get the Error Message: "Setup could not find ActivX(R) Data Objects verion 2.5 or higher on your computer...." • How to ThinApp a Database Application & SQL Server 2005

  To make it easier for potential clients to try out our software without having to go to the trouble of installing SQL Server, a test database, setting up an ODBC connection and so on, we want to package the whole thing with VMWare ThinApp. Ideally, there'd be a single executable and all the user would have to do is run it. I've been reading up on ThinApp on the VMWare website but am still unsure how to go about doing this. Is the correct approach to put SQL Server and the application in separate packages, reverting to a clean version of the virtual enviroment prior to each packaging? That seems somewhat problematic because the app needs the DBMS to run, as well as an ODBC connection. Like I said, we'd prefer to go with a single package (package = executable?), but two executables are also acceptable if an alternative can't be found. I realize that the same result can probably be achieved by way of a custom SQL Server Express installation but ThinApp looks like a better and more elegant solution.

When creating a new Connection, you will need to use a provider other than SqlClient. Usually it's SQLOLEDB. The list of data providers only has SqlClient or ".NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server". Is there a work-around for Visual Studio 2010 to create or use data connections to SQL Server 2000 using the Entity Framework?

  Hi there guys. I have this ASP.NET/SQLServer2005 website running on a production server (Win2003, QuadCore, 4GB). The site runs smoothly normally, but after 2-3 weeks I notice a slow performance on the site (especifically in one particular page). Also I notice that the SQL Server process is using like 2GBs of RAM. So I restart the service, the site runs fast again and the process 300-400MBs. I'm looking for an explanation of why is this happening? What is SQL Server storing in RAM that takes too much space and degrades the performance? What can I do to avoid this? I'm trying to avoid restarting the SQLServer everytime this happens. Thank you!

  I have a SQL Server 2008, which is part of a domain. Now I make a backup of a database of this server and restore it on a SQL Server, which is not part of a domain. I have an C# application, which uses this database. On the NON-Domain machine I get now exceptions like this: "Cannot execute as the database prinzipal because the principial "dbo" does not exist, this type of principal cannot be impersonatedm or you don not have the permission" I think, the problem is, that the database owner is a domain user and this user doesn't exist on the target machine (backup machine)!? How can I solve this ?

The ones I have found usually just use SQLite, but I would like to see one that specifically targets SQL Server 2005/2008. I really liked the sample tutorial on the FluentNhibernate website (http://wiki.fluentnhibernate.org/Getting_started#Your_first_project), but it looks like most tutorials I have found seem to only deal with SQLite.   Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this?   Can someone explain conversation groups in service broker? Currently, I'm using service broker to send messages from one SQL server to another. On the sending server, I'm trying to correlate the messages so they are processed in serial on the receiving side. Based on the documentation, conversation groups seem to be a perfect fit for this, but on the receiving server, the messages get assigned to a different conversation group from the one I specified when sending the message.   Database server: SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 - SP3 - Standard Edition I have a table with 5 columns, in which I want to add a large (300.000) number of records. There is a unique index on the combination of two columns. If I add the records with this unique index in place, SQL Server gives this error message: Msg 2601, Level 14, State 3, Line 1 Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'TESTTABLE' with unique index 'test'. The statement has been terminated. (0 row(s) affected) However, if I delete the unique index and then add the records, I do not get any error when I create this unique index afterwards.

• Ruby on Rails Foreigner plugin not working for SQL Server

  Well, now that I've finally got my stupid ODBC stuff configured, I took a schema.rb file that I dumped from a Postgres database and did a db:schema:load on it in a Rails project configured for SQL Server. Well, it sets up all the schema in the SQL Server database except for a minor detail: No foreign keys are created. The rake command doesn't show any errors and does say it is adding foreign keys. But they don't actually get added. This is the last bit from the command: -- add_foreign_key("workhistoryform", "form", {:name=>"workhistoryform_form_rid_fkey", :column=>"form_rid", :primary_key=>"form_rid"}) -> 0.0002s -- initialize_schema_migrations_table() -> 0.0092s -- assume_migrated_upto_version(0) -> 0.0942s [earlz@earlzarch avp_msql_migrations]$ So what is the problem? Does the Foreigner plugin not work in SQL Server? If it didn't I'd expect to see an error or something...

  Are there any limitations with respect to developing ASP.NET and WPF apps using VS 2008/2010 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 Home Premium? I know you can run IIS 7.5 on Home Premium. I Googled and Binged on Home Premium and VS/SQL Server and couldn't find much. It doesn't look like the features missing from Home Premium, domain joining, xp mode, etc... shouldn't prevent one from running and developing in VS/SQL Server. Update I did discover one limitation w/IIS 7.5 and it applies to all versions of Windows 7 I think. You can't create your own self signed SSL certificate specifying a name other than the machine name. You're stuck with your machine name which isn't that big a deal, but it is a change from previous versions.

• Server 2008 Web Edition IIS6 SMTP conflict

  I'm using IIS6 Manager to setup the SMTP service on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition. Ignoring how mental this is, there seems to be a conflict (port 25?) which means that I cannot start and stop the Default SMTP server within IIS6. I can start and stop it with the services.msc snap in and this is reflected in state of the SMTP server in IIS6 manager. I'm worried that none of the settings I want to get at within IIS6 (logging, authentication etc..) are having any effect. None of these settings are available within IIS7 in Web Edition. Idiotic.

  I've previously in my setup installed SQL Server Express 2005. Now I've switched to SQL Server Express 2008. I updated the command line parameters to those documented for the latter. If the comp already has SQL Server Express 2008 installed, my installer should create a new instance. The command line parameters are as follows: /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /QS /INSTANCENAME=ABCD /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=CunningPassword The requested instance name does not exist on the target machine. This will end in an error -2068643838. The logs show the following error: "No features were installed during the setup execution. The requested features may already be installed." If I remove the /QS parameter and try to install interactively, I'll get as far as the Feature Selection page. The UI shows three options, Instance Features, Shared Features and Redistributable Features. Whatever I select, clicking Next results in the same error (There are validation errors on this page). • VS 2010 Server Explorer Database Showing No Tables

  I'm working on a .Net application that needs to read from an Oracle 10g database behind Siebel. In VS 2010 Server Explorer, I've created a connection using the OracleClient type connector with a reference to the Oracle TNS service name as the "server name." The "Test Connection" button shows that the connection is successful. However, in the Server Explorer, when I go to expand the Tables, no tables are shown. I know for a fact that there are 3000+ tables in the database (thanks Siebel). Anyone know what's happening here? I'd like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Data Model... Thanks for the help!   Seems like I'm missing something simple, but my attempts to connect to SQL Server Express have failed. I feel like I need to add privileges for my account but I'm not sure where to do it. Dev Env: VS 2010 (Web) SQL: Sql Server Express 2008 OS: XP Trying to open a connection to database returns: Cannot open database "|DataDirectory|DropData.mdf" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'devel.' I created the database using the interface in VS 2010 (Add new item - DB File) but my ASP.Net class only covered design-time access and not access in code, so I'm not familiar with what to do. I created a user (Devel) using SQL Server Management Studio to avoid connecting as SA, but couldn't figure out how to give any SQL-level access rights to this account. Any ideas? Thanks, Cameron

  On production I have ELMAH configured so that the errors are logged into a SQL Server 2005 database created specially for ELMAH. The sites run on IIS6.0 web server. ELMAH is able to send emails for the errors, but nothing is getting logged into the SQL Server database. The connection is a trusted connection and I have <section name="errorLog" requirePermission="false" type="Elmah.ErrorLogSectionHandler, Elmah"/> in section group <errorLog type="Elmah.SqlErrorLog, Elmah" connectionStringName="Elmah.Sql" applicationName="VBCPortal"/> under elmah <add name="Elmah.Sql" connectionString="Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=ELMAH;Trusted_Connection=True" /> in connectionStrings in my web.config file. • How to transfer SQLite db to web server

  Hi, I have an application that creates an SQLite database and saves information to it over the course of a day. At the end of the day i want to export this database to a web server. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Should I use httppost or put. I have researched this myself online but there seems to be so many different ways to explore. The server side does not exist yet either. I have access to an apache server so i am hoping to use that. Could anyone advise me the best/most simple way to do this? Thanks
