I could obviously create and use any arbitrary folder (such as /home/shared, /data or /var/data), but I'm really wondering if there are any "best" or "common" practice guidelines. The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard doesn't specify a location for shared data. For backups, I tend to use /var/backups, but as several cronjobs write to it should it really be left for their use?

Most students are good with theory, most of them are smart, but they have to learn how to solve common technical problems. They will be better programmers as they practice, but maybe we can help them with some introduction training. Which topics you would select for a two weeks full time training?   My compony's site's home page was not specificly optimized to any location. Now, I am planning to optimize it to Boston, and create ten or so other landing pages for other locations we serve. If we made these new pages by copying the original Boston one and changing the location's name (s/Boston/Montreal/), would Google consider them as duplicate pages and penalize us?
