  In Word 2010, how can you create quick style sets that include multilevel lists (include being the operative word)? As background, I have created a set of styles for a long agreement form and assigned them to levels in a certain custom multilevel list. I then also saved those styles as a quick style set called Long Agreement. I have saved those styles in my normal template. That all works fine for assigning styles to a Long Agreement. What I'd like to do next is create a second style set called Short Agreement. I will assign certain styles to that style set. The issue is that I don't see how to tie a different custom multilevel list to those Short Agreement styles. When I click on Change Styles, Short Agreement [style set], and I apply those styles, how can I get it to automatically use the multilevel list that I assign to short agreements?

• How do I change the colors used in MS Word 2007 track changes?

  I'm reviewing a document in MS Word 2007, and when I add comments, the bubble has red text on a slightly lighter red background. This is pretty hard to read. The Track Changes Options dialog isn't of much help, I can change the background color for Comments, and it's slightly more readable. But I know that Word assigns a color to each user who reviews the document, I'd like to be able to change mine to a different one, and still have it work properly when I pass the document on to others. MS help is useless.

Is it a bug? This was on a clean Ubuntu 10.10 installation.

• External 1TB WD USB 3.0 HDD is not detecting. Working perfectly find in Windows

  My 1TB USB 3.0 was working fine earlier in Ubuntu as well as Windows. But lately it is not at all being detected in Ubuntu. It still works fine in Windows. • Live HTML Preview

  When you need to edit an HTML document in NetBeans you may find useful this little plugin that adds a Preview tab to HTML editor window. The plugin works with some small issues in NetBeans 7.4 but I recommend using development builds instead. So install the plugin, restart NetBeans and open any HTML document. Notice there's a Preview button in editor's toolbar (see the red rectangle in the picture below). Now split the editor window by dragging the split button at top right corner. You can also use menu View - Split - Vertically.  Then in the bottom split part toggle Preview button. You will get a live preview of your HTML source code. The preview pane will auto-refresh as you edit the HTML code. There are even some handy tools in Preview toolbar, for example you can resize the preview browser to match the screen dimensions of various device types. I know there is full-blown HTML5 support in NetBeans 7.4. But if you need to edit a single document or when you're running Java-only NetBeans distribution this plugin may come handy... Note: The plugin is built on top of embedded WebKit browser which is based on JavaFX WebView component. So there might be some issue when using the plugin on some flavors of Linux.

• SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

  Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help.   I'm testing out using LINQ with NHibernate but have run into some problems with resolving string.length. Then I want to do the same thing in LINQ, and it throws the following error: NHibernate.QueryException: could not resolve property: Url.Length of: DC_Control I've searched alot for this "could not resolve property" error, but I can't quite figure out, what this means. Is this because the LINQ implementation is not complete? If so it's a bit disappointing coming from Linq2Sql where this would just work. I also tried it setting up the mapping with a hbm.xml instead of using FluentNHibernate but it produced teh same error.

• Issue allowing custom Xml Serialization/Deserialization on certain types of field

  I've been working with Xml Serialization/Deserialization in .net and wanted a method where the serialization/deserialization process would only be applied to certain parts of an Xml fragment. This is so I can keep certain parts of the fragment in Xml after the deserialization process. To do this I thought it would be best to create a new class (XmlLiteral) that implemented IXmlSerializable and then wrote specific code for handling the IXmlSerializable.ReadXml and IXmlSerializable.WriteXml methods. In my example below this works for Serializing, however during the Deserialization process it fails to run for multiple uses of my XmlLiteral class. In my example below sTest1 gets populated correctly, but sTest2 and sTest3 are empty. I'm guessing I must be going wrong with the following lines but can't figure out why.. Any ideas at all?   I have a problem when attempting to serialize class on a server, send it to the client and deserialize is on the destination. Within the NAnt task is a C# script which prompts the developer for database credentials (username, password, database) in order to compile the forms and reports. I want to then run these credentials against the relevant database to ensure the credentials entered are correct and, if they are not, prompt the user to re-enter their credentials. However, as mentioned in the link, Microsoft is discontinuing support for this so it is not a desireable solution. I have also fonud that Oracle provides its own classes for connecting to Oracle databases clicky. However, this only seems to support connecting to Oracle 9 or newer databases (clicky) so it is not feasible solution as I also need to connect to Oracle 6i databases. I could achieve this by calling a bat script from within the C# script, but I would much prefer to have a single build file for simplicity. • Checkboxes will not check in IE7 using Javascript, and yet no errors

  Okay I'm totally confused on this one. I have a script that receives a bunch of values from a JSON object and creates a bunch of checkboxes and either checks or unchecks a these checkboxes based on their values. This script treats me like a woman treats me... "If you don't know what's wrong, then I'm not going to tell you..." The script works correctly in IE8, Firefox3, etc... etc... However... In IE7 the script fails to check off the checkboxes. It displays no errors and from what I can tell, the script runs just fine. • Hibernate many-to-many mapping not saved in pivot table

  I having problems saving many to many relationships to a pivot table. The way the pojos are created is unfortunately a pretty long process which spans over a couple of different threads which work on the (to this point un-saved) object until it is finally persisted. I associate the related objects to one another right after they are created and when debugging I can see the List of related object populated with their respective objects. So basically all is fine to this point. • Efficient representation of Hierarchies in Hibernate.

  I'm having some trouble representing an object hierarchy in Hibernate. I've searched around, and haven't managed to find any examples doing this or similar - you have my apologies if this is a common question. I have two types which I'd like to persist using Hibernate: Groups and Items. * Groups are identified uniquely by a combination of their name and their parent. * The groups are arranged in a number of trees, such that every Group has zero or one parent Group. * Each Item can be a member of zero or more Groups. Ideally, I'd like a bi-directional relationship allowing me to get: * all Groups that an Item is a member of * all Items that are a member of a particular Group or its descendants. I also need to be able to traverse the Group tree from the top in order to display it on the UI. The basic object structure would ideally look like this: class Group { ... /** @return all items in this group and its descendants */ Set<Item> getAllItems() { ... } /** @return all direct children of this group */ Set<Group> getChildren() { ... } ... } class Item { ... /** @return all groups that this Item is a direct member of */ Set<Group> getGroups() { ... } ... } Originally, I had just made a simple bi-directional many-to-many relationship between Items and Groups, such that fetching all items in a group hierarchy required recursion down the tree, and fetching groups for an Item was a simple getter, i.e.: class Group { ... private Set<Item> items; private Set<Group> children; ... /** @return all items in this group and its descendants */ Set<Item> getAllItems() { Set<Item> allItems = new HashSet<Item>(); allItems.addAll(this.items); for(Group child : this.getChildren()) { allItems.addAll(child.getAllItems()); } return allItems; } /** @return all direct children of this group */ Set<Group> getChildren() { return this.children; } ... } class Item { ... private Set<Group> groups; /** @return all groups that this Item is a direct member of */ Set<Group> getGroups() { return this.groups; } ... } However, this resulted in multiple database requests to fetch the Items in a Group with many descendants, or for retrieving the entire Group tree to display in the UI. This seems very inefficient, especially with deeper, larger group trees. Is there a better or standard way of representing this relationship in Hibernate? Am I doing anything obviously wrong or stupid? My only other thought so far was this: Replace the group's id, parent and name fields with a unique "path" String which specifies the whole ancestry of a group, e.g.: /rootGroup /rootGroup/aChild /rootGroup/aChild/aGrandChild The join table between Groups and Items would then contain group_path and item_id. This immediately solves the two issues I was suffering previously: 1. The entire group hierarchy can be fetched from the database in a single query and reconstructed in-memory. 2. To retrieve all Items in a group or its descendants, we can select from group_item where group_path='N' or group_path like 'N/%' However, this seems to defeat the point of using Hibernate. All thoughts welcome!

• How can I disable 'output escaping' in minidom

  I'm trying to build an xml document from scratch using xml.dom.minidom. Everything was going well until I tried to make a text node with a ® (Registered Trademark) symbol in. My objective is for when I finally hit print mydoc.toxml() this particular node will actually contain a ® symbol. First I tried: import xml.dom.minidom as mdom data = '®' which gives the rather obvious error of: File "C:\src\python\HTMLGen\test2.py", line 3 SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xae' in file C:\src\python\HTMLGen\test2.py on line 3, but no encoding declared; see http://www.python.or g/peps/pep-0263.html for details I have of course also tried changing the encoding of my python script to 'utf-8' using the opening line comment method, but this didn't help. So I thought import xml.dom.minidom as mdom data = '&#174;' #Both accepted xml encodings for registered trademark data = '&reg;' text = mdom.Text() text.data = data print data print text.toxml() But because when I print text.toxml(), the ampersands are being escaped, I get this output: &reg; &amp;reg; My question is, does anybody know of a way that I can force the ampersands not to be escaped in the output, so that I can have my special character reference carry through to the XML document? Basically, for this node, I want print text.toxml() to produce output of &reg; or &#174; in a happy and cooperative way! EDIT 1: By the way, if minidom actually doesn't have this capacity, I am perfectly happy using another module that you can recommend which does. EDIT 2: As Hugh suggested, I tried using data = u'®' (while also using data # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- Python source tags). This almost helped in the sense that it actually caused the ® symbol itself to be outputted to my xml. This is actually not the result I am looking for. As you may have guessed by now (and perhaps I should have specified earlier) this xml document happens to be an HTML page, which needs to work in a browser. So having ® in the document ends up causing rubbish in the browser (® to be precise!). I also tried: data = unichr(174) text.data = data.encode('ascii','xmlcharrefreplace') print text.toxml() But of course this lead to the same origional problem where all that happens is the ampersand gets escaped by .toxml(). My ideal scenario would be some way of escaping the ampersand so that the XML printing function won't "escape" it on my behalf for the document (in other words, achieving my original goal of having &reg; or &#174; appear in the document). Seems like soon I'm going to have to resort to regular expressions! EDIT 2a: Or perhaps not. Seems like getting my html meta information correct <META http-equiv="Content-Type" Content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> could help, but I'm not sure yet how this fits in with the xml structure...
