• SWIG: C++ to C#, pointer to pointer marshalling.

  I have some legacy code I want to port to C#. I cannot modify the C++ code, I just have to make do with what I'm given. So, the situation. I'm using SwIG, and I came across this function: void MarshalMe(int iNum, FooClass** ioFooClassArray); If I ran SWIG over this, it wouldn't know what to do with the array, so it will create a SWIGTYPE_p_pFooClass. Fair enough! C# code for this would look like void MarshalMe(int iNum, SWIGTYPE_p_p_FooClass ioFooClassArray); // Not ideal! There are some techniques for marshalling this kind of code correctly, so I tried a few of them: %typemap(ctype) FooClass** "FooClass**" %typemap(cstype) FooClass** "FooClass[]" %typemap(imtype, inattributes="[In, Out, MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPArray)]") FooClass** "FooClass[]" %typemap(csin) FooClass** "$csinput" %typemap(in) FooClass** "$1 = $input;" %typemap(freearg) FooClass** "" %typemap(argout) FooClass** "" This effectively creates a nicer signature: void MarshalMe(int iNum, FooClass[] ioFooClassArray); // Looks good!   Once again, here I am writing C without really knowing what I'm doing... At first, I thought it might have been how I was declaring my P/Invoke signature, so I tested it from a C program instead, but it still failed in the same way. • WCF/MSMQ Transport Security with Certificates

  Hi there, my goal is to secure the communication between MSMQ Queue Managers – I don’t want unknown clients sending messages to my MSMQ server. I have spent many hours now trying to get Transport security working for the net.msmq binding in WCF, where MSMQ is in Workgroup mode and the client and server do not have Active Directory… so I’m using certificates. I have created a new X.509 certificate, called Kristan and put it into the “Trusted people” store on the server and into the My store of Current User of the client. The error I’m getting is: An error occurred while sending to the queue: Unrecognized error -1072824272 (0xc00e0030).Ensure that MSMQ is installed and running. If you are sending to a local queue, ensure the queue exists with the required access mode and authorization. Using smartsniff, I see that there’s no attempted connection with the remote MSMQ, however, it’s an error probably coming from the local queue manager. • Generate JSON object with transactionReceipt

  Hi, I've been the past days trying to test my first in-app purchse iphone application. Unfortunately I can't find the way to talk to iTunes server to verify the transactionReceipt. Because it's my first try with this technology I chose to verify the receipt directly from the iPhone instead using server support. But after trying to send the POST request with a JSON onbject created using the JSON api from google code, itunes always returns a strange response (instead the "status = 0" string I wait for). • Rhino Mocks, Dependency Injection, and Separation of Concerns

  I am new to mocking and dependency injection and need some guidance. My application is using a typical N-Tier architecture where the BLL references the DAL, and the UI references the BLL but not the DAL. Pretty straight forward. Lets say, for example, I have the following classes: class MyDataAccess : IMyDataAccess {} class MyBusinessLogic {} Each exists in a separate assembly. I want to mock MyDataAccess in the tests for MyBusinessLogic. So I added a constructor to the MyBusinessLogic class to take an IMyDataAccess parameter for the dependency injection. But now when I try to create an instance of MyBusinessLogic on the UI layer it requires a reference to the DAL. I thought I could define a default constructor on MyBusinessLogic to set a default IMyDataAccess implementation, but not only does this seem like a codesmell it didn't actually solve the problem. I'd still have a public constructor with IMyDataAccess in the signature. So the UI layer still requires a reference to the DAL in order to compile. One possible solution I am toying with is to create an internal constructor for MyBusinessLogic with the IMyDataAccess parameter. Then I can use an Accessor from the test project to call the constructor. But there's still that smell. What is the common solution here. I must just be doing something wrong. How could I improve the architecture?

The provisions look in order, and the app builds to my iphone 3gs just fine. The app used to build just fine to my ipod touch, so I'm flustered what could have changed and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what might be causing this issue. The build logs are below. • ASP MVC2 model binding issue on POST

  So I'm looking at moving from MVC 1.0 to MVC 2.0 RTM. One of the conventions I'd like to start following is using the strongly-typed HTML helpers for generating controls like text boxes. However, it looks like it won't be an easy jump. I tried migrating my first form, replacing lines like this: <%= Html.TextBox("FirstName", Model.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> ...for lines like this: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> Previously, this would map into its appropriate view model on a POST, using the following method signature: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Registration(AccountViewInfo viewInfo) Instead, it currently gets an empty object back. I believe the disconnect is in the fact that we pass the view model into a larger aggregate object that has some page metadata and other fun stuff along with it (hence x.Data.FirstName instead of x.FirstName). So my question is: what is the best way to use the strongly-typed helpers while still allowing the MVC framework to appropriately cast the form collection to my view-model as it does in the original line? Is there any way to do it without changing the aggregate type we pass to the view? Thanks!

• Why is it so difficult to get a working IDE for Scala?

  I recently gave up trying to use Scala in Eclipse (basic stuff like completion doesn't work). So now I'm trying IntelliJ. I'm not getting very far. This was the original error. See below for update: Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. JDK is 1.6.u20. UPDATE Today I uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in.   I have a procedure that has a SYS_REFCURSOR as an OUT parameter. The signature is, for example, as follows: PROCEDURE myProc(p_someID IN INTEGER, p_cursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR); I call this procedure from a function, where I have to copy a column named clientID from the p_cursor to a scalar nested table. • Creating an Ajax.ActionLink that avoids all caching issues

  I am using an Ajax.ActionLink to display a partial view that shows a settings dialog (the modality of which is arranged using jQuery UI dialog). The issue I am running into is around browser caching. It is important that the user is never shown a cached settings dialog. My next step is to look into creating my own ActionLink equivalent that re-calculates a random query string component as part of the onclick JavaScript event handler. Thoughts please.

• C# rounding DateTime objects

  I want to round dates/times to the nearest interval for a charting application. I'd like an extension method signature like follows so that the rounding can be acheived for any level of accuracy: static DateTime Round(this DateTime date, TimeSpan span); The idea is that if I pass in a timespan of ten minutes, it will round to the nearest ten minute interval. I can't get my head around the implementation and am hoping one of you will have written or used something similar before. I think either a floor, ceiling or nearest implementation is fine. Any ideas?   Hi all, I'm developing an API with many identically named methods that just differ by signature, which I guess is fairly common. They all do the same thing, except that they initialize various values by defaults if the user does not want to specify. As a digestible example, consider public interface Forest { public Tree addTree(); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, Fruit fruitType); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, int height); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, Fruit fruitType, int height); } The essential action performed by all of these methods is the same; a tree is planted in the forest. Many important things users of my API need to know about adding trees hold for all these methods. Ideally, I would like to write one Javadoc block that is used by all methods: /** * Plants a new tree in the forest. Please note that it may take * up to 30 years for the tree to be fully grown. * * @param amountOfLeaves desired amount of leaves. Actual amount of * leaves at maturity may differ by up to 10%. * @param fruitType the desired type of fruit to be grown. No warranties * are given with respect to flavour. * @param height desired hight in centimeters. Actual hight may differ by * up to 15%. */ In my imagination, a tool could magically choose which of the @params apply to each of the methods, and thus generate good docs for all methods at once. With Javadoc, if I understand it correctly, all I can do is essentially copy&paste the same javadoc block five times, with only a slightly differing parameter list for each method. This sounds cumbersome to me, and is also difficult to maintain. Is there any way around that? Some extension to javadoc that has this kind of support? Or is there a good reason why this is not supported that I missed?

  I recently gave up trying to use Scala in Eclipse (basic stuff like completion doesn't work). So now I'm trying IntelliJ. I'm not getting very far. I've been able to edit programs (within syntax highlighting and completion... yay!). But I'm unable to run even the simplest "Hello World". This was the original error: Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar But that was yesterday with IDEA 9.0.1. See below... UPDATE Today I uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in. • Can't ssh to ec2 permission denied (publickey)

  I have existing instances running and I can connect to them fine. Even if I start a new instance from one of my saved ami's I can connect to it fine but any new public or community ami (I've tried 2 offical Ubuntu ami's and 1 Fedora quickstart ami) I get permission denied (publickey). The permissions are good on my key file. I've also tried creating a new keyfile. My ec2 firewall rules are good, I've also tried creating a new group. • Amazon EC2 RSA key stopped authenticating - Permission denied (publickey)

  Authenticating to our Ubuntu EC2 instance worked fine until a little while ago. All of a sudden, the key is being rejected. When we create a new instance with the keypair, we're able to connect to the instance perfectly, so it appears to be an issue with the existing instance. Port 22 is open. Any suggestions on what to look at from a configuration standpoint so we can fix this? Any thoughts on how we can get into the box? Here is the SSH debug output. Is there anything obviously amiss? Suddenly it crashdumps, after which all pooled connections are invalid and it goes into admin-only mode (only sa can connect) The short stackdump is below. • Advice moving from Eclipse to xCode

  To xCode xPerts: I have been doing Java in Eclipse for about 9 years now and I have really gotten used to the power of the refactoring tools. There are a few operations I do all the time. I am looking for equivalents in xCode since it has better support for objective-c than eclipse. (I'm not at my Mac as I write this. So some of this is from memory. I am still very new to xCode.) 1 "rename". It seems that the xCode equivalent for variables is "edit all in scope". Does this work for files/classes/methods too? 2 "extract local variable" select an expression it creates a local var initialized to that expression. It even creates a usable name for the variable. 3 "extract method" select some code and it will create a method with that code and appropriate parameters/return value. 4 "inline" (variable or method) opposite of extract, inlines all or just the selected occurrence of the selected var or method. 5 "find next" occurrence of selected text. In eclipse I can select some text and hit ctrl-k to go to the next occurrence of that in the file. likewise shift-ctrl-k finds backwards. IIRC the xCode "find next" ignores the selection and only uses what is in the find box. 6 "change method signature" This would be very useful with ocjective-c's named parameter messaging syntax. This is great for adding parameters to a method. 7 "pull-up/push-down" for moving methods up or down the class hierarchy. 8 "move" for moving elements around to other classes etc. Those are the ones that I use all of the time. I have estimated that these tools cut my coding time in half. Are any of these supported in xCode? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I followed the instructions (or so I thought) and the code signing claims to be done right, however when I try to verify the tool shows an error. I have no idea what it means and no idea how to fix this. Any comments would be appreciated. • Using MSADO15.DLL and C++ with MinGW/GCC on Windows Vista

  INTRODUCTION Hi, I am very new to C++, is my 1st statement. I have started initially with VC++ 2008 Express, I've notice that GCC becomes kind of standard so I am trying to make the right steps event from the beginning. I have written a piece of code that connects to MSSQL Server via ADO, on VC++ it's working like a charm by importing MSADO15.dll: #import "msado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile") Because I am going to move from VC++ I was looking for an alternative (eventually multi-platform) IDE, so I stick (for this time) with Code::Block (I'm using last nightly buil, SVN 6181). As compiler I choose to use GCC 3.4.5 (ported via MinGW 5.1.6), under Vista. I was trying to compile a simple "hello world" application with GCC that use/import the same msado15.dll (#import "c:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\msado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile")) and I was surprised to see a lot of compile-time errors. I was expected that the #import compiler's directive will generate a library from "msado15.dll" so it can link to it later (link-edit time or whatever).
