• How reference popup object when opener page changes?

  This is driving me crazy! Scenario: The main page opens a pop-up window and later calls a function in it: newWin = window.open(someurl,'newWin',options); ...some code later... newWin.remoteFunction(options); and it's ok. Now, popup is still open and Main Page changes to Page 2. In Page 2 newWin doesn't exist anymore and I need to recreate the popup window object reference in order to call again the remote function (newWin.remoteFunction) I tried something like: newWin = open('','newWin', options); if (!newWin || newWin.closed || !newWin.remoteFunction) { newWin = window.open(someurl,'newWin',options); } And it works, I can call newWin.remoteFunction again BUT Safari for some reason gives Focus() to the popup window everytime the open() method is called breaking the navigation (I absolutely need the popup working in the background). Only workaround I can think to solve this is to create an interval in the popup with: if(window.opener && !window.opener.newWin) window.opener.newWin = self; and then set another interval in the opener Page with some try/catch but it is inelegant and very inefficient. so, I wonder, it's really so hard to get the popup object reference between different pages in the opener window?

• Can a function defined in a bookmarklet be called from a page-level script?

  I have a bookmarklet that needs to open a new window/tab. In order to avoid the popup blocker, I need to call the window.open() method directly in the bookmarklet ie: at the browser-level. However, I want to keep the bookmarklet updatable by loading external Javascript files. To do this, the bookmarklet needs to append script nodes to the DOM. If i were to put window.open() code in one of these externally loaded scripts, the popup blocker would block it since its page-level. What I want to know is if I can create a wrapper function around window.open() in my bookmarklet, then call it from the externally loaded script? What is the scope and what are the permissions on a wrap such as this?

  Hi, I am using ifstream to open a file and then read from it. My program works fine when i give location of the local file on my system. for eg /root/Desktop/abc.xxx works fine But once the location is on the http server the file fails to open. for eg http://192.168.0.10/abc.xxx fails to open.   Hi, I want to create a MSWindows Python program that would launch a new Firefox window with multiple tabs each time it is run. For example if I want to search "hello", a new window pops out (even if a Firefox window is already open) and then launches a Google and Bing tabs searching for "hello". If I change the keyword to "world", a new browser pops out again with Google and Bing tabs searching for "world". I've looked at the webbrowser module but couldn't get it to: 1. Launch a new browser when a browser is already open: e.g. webbrowser.open('http://www.google.com',new=1) will instead open a new tab 2.   I've noticed that in Aptana 2.0 over 1.5.1 that when typing a php function, you no longer get the popup window showing the function description and it's parameters. Does anyone know how to get this working again? As I relied on it quite heavily to remember which parameters went where. Open in PHP Manual shortcut Shift+F2 also doesn't work either, so all I can do is open my browser and keep php.net open all the time. Are either of these features functional? I know that Open delcaration has never worked annoyingly, but I had the function popup in 1.5.1 perfectly.

• Perl Script to search and replace in .SQL query file with user inputs

  I have a .SQL file containing a large number of queries. They are being run against a database containing data for multiple states over multiple years. The machine I am running this on can only handle running the queries for one state, in one year, at a time. I am trying to create a Perl script that takes user input for the state abbreviation, the state id number, and the year. It then creates a directory for that state and year. Then it opens the "base" .SQL file and searches and replaces the base state id and year with the user input, and saves this new .SQL file to the created directory. The current script I have (below) stops at open(IN,'<$infile') with "Can't open [filename]" It seems that it is having difficulty finding or opening the .SQL file. I have quadruple-checked to make sure the paths are correct, and I have even tried replacing the $path with an absolute path for the base file. • Can I share code & resources between Android projects without using a library?

  The standard advice for sharing code & resources between Android projects is to use a library. Personally I find this works poorly if (a) the shared code changes a lot, or (b) your computer isn't fast enough. I also don't want to get into deploying multiple APK's, which seems to be necessary when I use dependent projects (i.e. Java Build Path, Projects Tab). On the other hand, sharing a folder of source code by using the Eclipse linked source feature works great (Java Build Path, Source tab, Link Source button), but for these two issues: 1) I can't use the same technique to share resources. I can create the link to the resources parent folder but then things get wonky and the shared resources don't get compiled (I'm using ADT 21). 2) So then I settle for copying the shared resources into each project, but this doesn't work because either. The shared code can't import the copy of its resources because it doesn't know the package name of the project that uses it. The solution I've been using is to access the resources dynamically, but that has become cumbersome as the number of resources grows. So, I need a solution to either (1) or (2), or I'll have to go back to a library project. (Or maybe there is another option I haven't thought of?)

• Synthetic click doesn't switch application's menu bar (Mac OS X)

  Hi. I'm developing some sort of air mouse application for iPhone platform. This applications connects to one computer service which generates mouse events on Mac OS X. I'm generating this events with CGEventCreateMouseEvent() and CGEventPost(). But I've encountered one problem. Let's say you are using Safari and then you click on free desktop space. If you do this with regular mouse it will hide Safari's top menu bar and show Finder menu bar. But on these synthetic events it doesn't act like that. Do I have to post some other event or set some additional properties? • Keeping third-party libraries under a Mercurial project: Sub-repos or not?

  Hello, We are developing a closed-source project, versionned with Mercurial. We are using two libraries in our project : One of those libraries is being developed by a third-party. They are using git, and we usually just pull from their repo once in a week to get the latest changes. The other library is being developed by ourselves, and is under active development. It must live in its own public mercurial repository, as it is licensed under LGPL. (It's a fork of a third-party LGPL component, ported to our platform) So my question is: How should I organize the source to ensure that: A developer from our team should be able to get all the source (main project + libraries) with a single "clone" command We should be able to pull easily the latest changes from the libraries, even though one of them is managed by git Should we use mercurial sub-repos functionnality, with hg-git to access to the library under git? Is it well supported by TortoiseHg and BitBucket? (pros: easy to pull library changes / cons: does it works well?) Or should we keep only snapshots of the libraries under our project? (thus, when there are new upstream changes in the libraries, we pull them to a separate place, and then copy the whole source to our project? (pros: will work / cons: pain in the ass, especially for the library that is being developed by ourselves, which is subject to a lot of daily changes)

When an option is selected in the first one, the value of the selection will be used as condition for a database query that will send the source data for the second autocomplete field. My problem is how do I send the value of the first selection to the PHP page via Post method?   Hi, I am unable to understand and fix the following behavior displayed by the Package Installer : in my application when I press on a "update application" button I download from a web server un update apk (in case there is) and start the Package Installer afterwards to install the package. Everything goes well and after the installation finishes there is displayed a view with two buttons "open" and "done" . However pressing the "open" button fails to open the installed update as it should even if the intent to the startup activity is sent as I observed in logcat . Pressing on menu button and going through the applications installed I am able to find the updated app and start it from here . What should I do to start the update by pressing open in the final Package Installed view ?

• How important is it for me to pool my connections?

But someone else told me that was important 10 years ago but is not so important now.   I am trying to make C# launch an application (in this case open office), and start sending that application keypresses such that it would appear as though someone is typing. So ideally, I would be able to send a running open office process the keypress for the letter "d", and open office would then type d on the paper. Can anyone give me direction as per how to go about this? • Java Equivalent of C++ .dll?

  So, I've been programming for a while now, but since I haven't worked on many larger, modular projects, I haven't come across this issue before. I know what a .dll is in C++, and how they are used. But every time I've seen similar things in Java, they've always been packaged with source code. For instance, what would I do if I wanted to give a Java library to someone else, but not expose the source code? Instead of the source, I would just give a library as well as a Javadoc, or something along those lines, with the public methods/functions, to another programmer who could then implement them in their own Java code. For instance, if I wanted to create a SAX parser that could be "borrowed" by another programmer, but (for some reason--can't think of one in this specific example lol) I don't want to expose my source. Maybe there's a login involved that I don't want exploited--I don't know. But what would be the Java way of doing this? With C++, .dll files make it much easier, but I have never run into a Java equivalent so far. (I'm pretty new to Java, and a pretty new "real-world" programmer, in general as well)
