• Does Wordpress have any SEO benifits on sites coded from scratch? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Do wordpress websites get indexed quicker by SE than a regular website? I have heard SEO experts suggest moving sites to Wordpress for SEO optimization. Googling offers some perspectives that confirm this (like this or somewhat more dubiously, this). Is this accurate? Some other places say that it doesn't matter, except that Wordpress configures all the meta correctly. In that case, what exactly must be configured?

• Actinic and Google Analytics: does it mess with my stats?

  My fathers website is built using Actinic - not by me but by a local company - and since he went with them some years ago his traffic never went down, but has stayed more or less consistent which is fine. My question is this; does using actinic somehow confuse analytics? As it shows that 99% of all visitors come "direct", as in, not by organic search. Previous to using Actinic he would get 70 to 85% of new hits exclusively from organic search terms. So I'm wondering if Actinic somehow messes with these new hits and redirects them to a "home" page.. Not sure exactly what I mean but this change in stats is concerning and I'm struggling to find an explanation.

• I need a form to tie MySQL Records together (i.e., many-to-many relationships).

  I need a HTML-based form to tie database records together. The user scenario that I envision is somthing like this: A super-user does a search of the database and is delivered a table of records based on that search; each record is numbered with the database-record id. There would also be two text fields next to each record. These text fields would allow: the user to make a reference from one record to another. For example, a user could enter into record id #457 that there is a correlation with record ID #242. The user would also describe the type of relationship it is. This could be with a simple integer that represents the type of relationship between the two records. When the super-user hits the submit button, all of these relationships are saved in a mySqljoin table. One option is to give me advice on how to implement and code this myself in PHP. However, before I reinvent the wheel, another option is to lead me to a free script that does something similar.

• how can i track visits to ALL of the subpages of my website COMBINED TOGETHER?

  Right now im using statcounter and google analytics. They are great. But my counts are currently separated. Ex: website.com = 1000 visits a day, website.com/about = 50 visits a day, website.com/privacy = 10 visits a day, etc.. How can have a combined count of all of my sub-pages? (mainpage + about page + about 100 other sub-pages ) I can of course manually add them all together, but that's time consuming because there are many pages. I tried placing a separate tracking code in a php include that sits in each of the sub-pages, but it doesnt seem to be working. It seems to require a single URL to create it, which it then only counts the visits from the one url, rather than ALL of them. Ex: website.com) Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully im just missing something very obvious. Thank you!

  Does anyone know how I could add some information to my page (whether in a meta tag or some other way) to indicate to Google Analytics that a page is targeted to a certain segment? This is pretty straightforward on my main site where everything is set up in hierarchy by target user so I can just use the URL to filter the data. However for my subdomains, its a flat structure that's just a bunch of landing and conversion pages so I can't use the URL. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

• How does one redirect from one wordpress page to another via htaccess?

  I tried making the following change to my wordpress site to permanently redirect a common link to a new page. I could've -sworn- that this used to work. But it simply does not (at least in WP 3.9). I have had to resort to using a Redirect Plug-In. I'm wondering -why- it doesn't work and if there is a technique which -will- work. I'd prefer to continue to use .htaccess for simplicity.   Is it possible to integrate any kind of Lightbox with SimpleViewer? But I don't want to display SimpleViewer in Lightbox. I want to Lightbox show when I click on one of the images in SimpleViewer.   Question for you all. There is a site of ill repute known as thedirty which has completely mirrored my site and now has links appearing on Google at the #1 spot using my content. I checked my log file and noticed that this site has been crawling mine from sometime, and also has 10k links from their site to mine. I have blocked user access which is referred from this site and reported them as web spam to Google already. I also disavowed the domain. How are they getting top links in Google (even overtaking mine) for such nefarious tactics? What are the steps to completely eliminating an issue such as this?

• Serving WordPress menu links in only HTTPS or HTTP depending on how it's accessed

  I have a WordPress site which uses WordPress HTTPS to enable SSL when users access it via that protocol. However, currently the menu links point back to the HTTP version. I want users to be linked to HTTPS pages while accessing the site over HTTPS, but not when accessing it over HTTP. Is this possible? Note: I have tried changing the menu options to use // and / for the links, but in both cases they are just rendered as HTTP links.

  I am building a brochure-ware website for a company that sells products all across the world. They need the site to ask the user what region they are in before using the site; there are 5 regions. This is because there are different products offered to different regions and each region may or may not want to customize their own content. However, at launch and likely forever, most of the pages will be the exact same minus what is listed in the footer and in the product selection menu. My question is how should I structure the sitemap for this site for best SEO? Should I be concerned with duplicate content penalties and/or cannibalizing the site's presence on the SERP? Some considerations: The client wants to be able to print links directly to regional specific content bypassing any prompt for the user to select a region (to ensure they land on the target page). The client cannot have a 'default' region so the user must have a region specified "Clean" urls are important, but there is wiggle room The client does not want each region to have its own domain There will be a link on the page to allow users to specify a different region The client is not concerned with localization ...at this time Some products are available in multiple regions A quick list of options I am considering: www.site.com/region/page region.site.com/page www.site.com/page?region (no cookie, pages require the parameter.   Let's say on an e-commerce site that sells unique pens, on a particular pen's product page, the image of the pen has an alt tag of "unique red-striped pen"... and another product has "unique blue-spotted pen", etc. The key words across all products being "unique" and "pen", which would also be helpful when it comes to SEO. However, if the person just goes to the general "unique pens" category page and sees a list of thumbnail images, each with the words "unique" and "pen" in the alt tag, would that potentially have a negative impact with regards to SEO by having the words too many times?

• As good as no bounces are registered in Google Analytics [on hold]

  For a client I am having an issue for which I can't find an explanation. For some reason, bounces are no longer measured (or almost none) in GA. In GA I can see that the issue started in January 2013. I have been looking at the code inside and out, but I can't find any reason why. On the production site, there is (will be removed soon) a POST done on page load, so I thought that Google might see this as user interaction, hence never counting a bounce, but on staging i removed this POST and in the GA account for staging, still no bounces are registered. I have also checked if the tracking code appears twice on the page, and this is not the case. I tried with the GA debug plugin in Firefox and Chrome to see if that would learn me anything, but no luck... The site in question is www.kiala.be.

The comparisons with historical data are interesting for example. However Google doesn't appear to allow you to change a property from the classic code to the new code. Am I missing something?   I have a website that is http, but has a port set up for https for a specific directory that is for the shopping cart. Now I'd like to use our SSL on a different directory in the same site as well. How can I go about configuring that? I have tried looking into all of the config files as well as the docs and cannot figure it out. I tried setting this in httpd.config as well <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:[ssl port]> #also tried *:[ssl port] and [actual IP]:[ssl port] ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "C:/path/sslNeededDir" ServerName www.example.com </VirtualHost> hoping that it would cause pages in this directory to use ssl port and become https, but that didn't do anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Update: This finally got migrated over. I'm still looking for a solid answer on this. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

• Impact of migrating home page from HTTP to HTTPS on search results

  I've had to change one of my site's home page to HTTPS from HTTP. I had plenty of links coming into the HTTP page and was performing well in Google against many of my targeted search phrases. I did a 301 redirect from the HTTP page to transfer the link juice to the HTTPS page (and to prevent duplicate content issues) but my search rankings have tanked which indicates no link juice has been transferred. My PageRank has vanished - which I'd expect - but I'm really surprised that the SERP rankings fell off the face of the earth. Anyone have any ideas how I can recover from this? I've waited a couple of months since the changes took effect just in case Google was taking time to check it out.

  Small team of developers doing their work here and there. We have a team leader, and is sole responsible for uploading updated source files from the development server to the production server. • Getting expired domain name - most effective route?

  There is a domain name I have been wanting for years that was used as a parked page (read: cybersquatted) that has entered into WHOIS's redemptionPeriod stage. The domain has been expired for 61 days now - after contacting the Registar, they informed me that it would stay in redemption for 75 days. After which, it would either be sold to resellers, or sent back to the public registry. (I have since sent a followup message requesting the reseller they use.) My question is: What is the best way to proceed? I know there is at least one competitor that would love to have this name, but I'm unsure if they even know it's expiring. I did not tell the Registar the domain in question, as they seem geared towards cybersquatting, and I do not trust them. Domain Front Running sucks. Should I use a backorder service? Should I just take my chances and try to grab it after75 days? I checked an auctionhouse by manually browsing their expired domains - it wasn't there.

Is that correct? Or would it be just an SEO boost for that particular URL? If it is just an SEO boost for the particular URL, it does me little good since that page does not link to any of my other pages. Am I thinking about this correctly?   A client of mine has a product ending with a plus-sign (e.g. Google+) and would like the webpage of this product to have an URL that is human-readable (i.e. an URL that doesn't contain %2B). Since our projects use the following .htaccess RewriteRule RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?$1 it is possible to use an urlencoded space in an URL like that. However, while the url would read like /google+, the actual meaning of the URL would be /google[space]. (The markup won't let me place a real space there.) Now my concern is that this would have disadvantages for SEO. Is this concern valid and/or are there other culprits to this approach?

  My client needs a site customers can use to pay the membership fees and join. It should also track when old members need to pay again. There are some members that will not want to pay online and they want to be able to use the site to manage all payments. The CMS must be cheap to host online, potentially with something like GitHub/Heroku. I am experienced with PHP and RoR. I am using a CMS so once I am done with this project it is easy for them to update. After reading through different posts I think WordPress with an e-commerce Plugin may be the right solution. • SEO and search result changes when switching to SSL on Joomla site?

  I am thinking about purchasing an SSL certificate for a website. The most noticeable difference for the user would be the http now becomes https and there is that lock icon in most browsers. Will there be any adverse affects on the website's current SEO or recognition by search engines when I make the switch? Also this is a Joomla site, which has an option in the settings to use SSL. It is supposed to make it easier but not sure if it takes care of everything. Thanks!
