  • Firefox hangs waiting for ssl.google-analytics.com

    It seems that FF has a problem with 403 Access Denied responses from proxies, at least for ssl.google-analytics.com. I've found this post which describes my problem. I'm posting my workaround as an answer, but would also welcome any more information if anyone has it as I can't find anything! EDIT: Note that the current version of Firefox which is experiencing this issue is 3.0.10 EDIT: Still there for FF 3.5...

    is there any way to check and make sure that my windows installation is completely fine (i just had a BSOD and i just want peace of mind it wont happen again). i am running windows 7, but i often give help to others so if there is any utility that works like this on another OS, post it. (also does disk check do this, i have had troubles with the windows seven disk checker as part of the error described in KB975778)

    Ive a 7.5 IIS installed on my server with windows authentication enabled cause i need it for NTLM / SSO on intranet pages. when windows authentication is activated, iis cant authenticate himself on his own webserver.. thats the error i got in the iis log: 2011-11-24 08:47:10 10.50.2.91 POST /ldap.php - 80 - 10.50.2.91 SWIFT_LoginShare 401 2 5 0 so.. how can i make sure, using windows authentication, that iis authenticates himself? thx for your help

  • RDP session re-locks right after login

    For some reason, after users do the initial authentication, the system logs in (or unlocks) and locks the screen again within a few seconds (without dropping the RDP session). I've seen this on XP SP3 and Server 2k3. Clients are both major versions of the MS client, and rdesktop. Update: We've seen the issue on a range of machines from 2k3 server (no logon/post logon scripts on servers) to XP SP3. Multiple machines have the same issue - even coming from a fresh and fully patched install.

  • AD group authentication to view wordpress posts?

    I'm trying to set up a wordpress site using active directory authentication. One question that has come up is the ability to limit category/post/blog reading to specific AD groups. I've never seen this done and I haven't been able to find any plugins that seem to promise this functionality. It would seem that the best option is to just give a bunch of users a role with the read_private_posts capability, but I'm not sure this will do the trick.

    What options are available to load balance web service traffic on Linux with the ability to add or remove servers from the server pool without restarting the load balancer? This post: http://serverfault.com/questions/71437/mod-proxy-change-without-restart looks like a very promising way to switch between two servers, but I don't know enough about mod_proxy and mod_rewrite to understand how/if I can use an external file to specify the BalancerMember entries for a section. Are there other open source load balancers that support reconfiguration without restart?

    Will a bacula volume be recycled if: No more volumes are appendable The date of the last job on it is past the volume retention period Jobs on that volume are not past the job and file retention periods This is the way the manual reads to me, but I saw a post saying all retention periods have to be up before a volume is recycled (which does make less sense to me). Anyone know for sure from experience?

  • High CPU usage - symptoms moving from server to server after bouncing

    First off, I apologize if I didn't include enough information to properly troubleshoot this issue. This sort of thing isn't my specialty, so it is a learning process. If there's something I need to provide, please let me know and I'll be happy to do what I can. The images associated with my question are at the bottom of this post. We are dealing with a clustered environment of four WebLogic 9.2 Java application servers. The cluster utilizes a round-robin load algorithm. Other details include: Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04) BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.4.0-90_CR352234-91983-1.5.0_12-20071115-1605-linux-x86_64, compiled mode) Basically, I started looking at the servers' performance because our customers are seeing lots of lag at various times of the day. Our servers should easily handle the loads they are given, so it's not clear what's going on. Using HP Performance Manager, I generated some graphs that indicate that the CPU usage is completely out of whack. It seems that, at any given point, one or more of the servers has a CPU utilization of over 50%. I know this isn't particularly high, but I would say it is a red flag based on the CPU utilization of the other servers in the WebLogic cluster. Interesting things to note: The high CPU utilization was occurring only on server02 for several weeks. The server crashed (extremely rare; we are not sure if it's related to this) and upon starting it back up, the CPU utilization was normal on all 4 servers. We restarted all 4 managed servers and the application server (on server01) yesterday, on 2/28. As you can see, server03 and server04 picked up the behavior that was seen on server02 before. The CPU utilization is a Java process owned by the application user (appown). The number of transactions is consistent across all servers. It doesn't seem like any one server is actually handling more than another. If anyone has any ideas or can at least point me in the right direction, that would be great.   • Wifi interference tool for Mac

    This Server Fault blog post shows some tools you can use to view interference on your wireless network: blog.serverfault.com/2012/01/05/a-studied-approach-at-wifi-part-2/. They mention Vistumbler, which only works on PC's. Is there a similar tool I can use to measure wireless interference on a Mac? Also, is it better to be on a channel with many AP's, each with a weak signal, or on a channel with only a few AP's, but a strong signal?

  • Remove app in Win7 that was auto-published with Windows Xp Mode

    I have several copies/instances of my xp mode image and have a bunch of apps that were auto-published to Win7. I have since disabled the "auto-publish" apps in the instances but still have the applications listed. What is the correct/best way to clear them out. I read a post somewhere that you can just delete the shortcut in the start menu but I want to remove all links and don't know if that would suffice? Thanks TK

    I've ran into this cryptic statement for SQL Server: Files Per Database 32,767. What does that mean exactly? Is there a maximum number of tables for a given version of SQL Server. We try to support SQL Server post 2005 32-bit and 64-bit.   • question about a sata read/write speed

    I'm contemplating biting the bullet for an ssd drive in a server, obviously I know it will be MUCH faster than a regular 7200rpm sata2 3gbps drive. The nice thing about ssd's is often they post the read/write speed but that info isn't available for sata's so I'm just curious to know what a typical read/write speed would be for a seagate 120gb 7200rpm drive. I know it fluctuates from manufacturer and model series but I'm just looking for a guestimate.

    I'd like to be able to stream .avi files to my xbox 360 video library. I've gone through a bunch of different servers (ushare, xbmc) both from the aptitude and from source. It seems that I can get the servers working from both localhost and from another computer on the network. However, the xbox cannot detect any of these. Can anybody give me a hand or perhaps post a detailed walkthrough to give me a hand?

    I'm coming from a PC, loaded with a Core 2 Quad CPU and 8GB of DDR2 RAM. I was running Premiere CS3. I'm new to Mac so I'm not sure if this will help performance: Will increasing my 21.5" Core 2 Duo iMac's memory from 4GB (DDR3) to 8GB improve performance of Premiere CS4 significantly? I am not impressed with Premiere as it is now. The iMac is the newest one as of this post.
