    I'm going create an open source Help desk solution free of charge for small to medium businesses to use. I'm currently working on the client application. I want to have a list of tickets that have been opened by the user. So it would be like a table TicketsByUser: Ticket Number | Type | Description | Date | Handled? 123456 | Hardware | My mouse broke | 10/20/2010 | No 123456 | Hardware | My mouse broke | 10/20/2010 | Yes I was thinking of using ListView because of it's name, but I have zero experience with it, so maybe it's not what I'm looking for. I'm going to be pulling the data from a WCF service which in turn pulls it from a MS SQL database.

Why does this always return -1? I currently am using MS .NET 4.0 Client Profile on VB.NET 2010 Express. I unplug the for my laptop and see if it makes a difference and it doesn't. Also tried in plugged in. Help please???

  • Scanning FedEx labels into a visual basic program

    I have a program that has tracking numbers entered into it and it stores them in a database and i would like to add a scanner to the mix. The scanner is acting like a keyboard and scannes just fine, the problem is scanning a FedEx number gives a 32 digit number and i am only iterested in the tracking number portion of it. I saw an example on the web for an excel macro and tried to modify it but it doesnt seem to work. Is there something i could do to just get the 12 digit number? This is what it looks like so far.   • vb.net auto detect dependency files for wix 3.7

    I am in the process of learning WIX all thanks to MS for removing such a nice tool (vdproj) from the latest versions of visual studio. I have come to know that I can add my files (and dlls) to distribute in WIX using that tag. It is OK. But in vdproj it was very easy to add all files. I just need to right click in file view, and select 'add project output'. This was enough to add dozen of files that were required for my application. In visual studio 2012, and using WIX 3.7, what options do I have to automatically list all those dlls that are required by my application?

  • Is there a good collection library for C-language?

    We have to maintain and even develop C-code of our legacy system. Is there good collection library that would support Java/C# (new versions) style collections. Hashtable, HashSet, etc. Of course without objects, but with structs. The HashTable key limitations to "strings" and ints is not a problem. It wouldn't be bad if it's free even for commercial use. I'm back to C from C# and I must say i'm depressed using our own libraries and the language in general. We're using VS2005 and MS C-compiler if that has nothing to do with anything.   • ODBC Storage Size

    I'm pulling a lot of text from a MS SQL Server database. I'm not getting all the text (which includes some html. The text is stored perfectly on the database. However, when I run the query to get the data It will only pull part of the text. I pull the data using odbc_exec and store using $variable = odbc_result($runquery,"body"). if i display the content with odbc_result_all($runquery) i get part of the content. if I use echo $body; i get part of the content then some garbage and part of the text from the begining. very strange response. Is there a size limit? Any ideas what I'm missing here?

    Did you use teamviewer? (comic question i know... Who doesn't use it?) Do you have any idea how does teamviewer make connection even if i am behind the router, firewall, switch and my local firewall..? I'm trying to imagine a connection that is between remote machinge and my computer. Remote machine is sending the packets (and its header (for instance, destination IP, message body)) to me but it only knows my id number(which is given by my local teamviewer application). And this packets are reaching to my computer even if there is a juniper firewall (and also my windows firewall). What kind a message body is recieving by computer? (of course it is not like xml, text, html, excel :) Do you have any idea? PS. Please share your knowledge like you are explaining to beginner level user.

    Hi, What do you think would be the best way to produce custom size image thumbnail from MS Office documents (doc, xls and ppt) on Windows with native code (means all means besides .NET/JAVA)? My current research result: IExtractImage COM. Problem: The size of the generated result is fixed and low quality, and you can't be sure all the source documents contain the thumbnails. Use a programmable virtual printer to print the specified page, and the printer must support image output, any good suggestion for this? What else would you suggest? thanks!

  • How to deal with large result sets with Linq to Entities?

    I have a fairly complex linq to entities query that I display on a website. It uses paging so I never pull down more than 50 records at a time for display. But I also want to give the user the option to export the full results to Excel or some other file format. My concern is that there could potentially be a large # of records all being loaded into memory at one time to do this. Is there a way to process a linq result set 1 record at a time like you could w/ a datareader so only 1 record is really being kept in memory at a time? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks

The question is when to use semantic tag and when to use just to make text bold Should I always use <strong> if client's content files (MS word files) has some words bold in content paragraphs? How can we know when client want to give emphasis to text and when he just want to make text bold for presentation/aesthetic purpose? If it's client job to tell us, then how to explain this scenario to client to give us clear info on "when he just want to make text bold for presentation/aesthetic purpose" ?

    Dear All, I have the following xsl code in an xsl document <A target="_blank" style="text-decoration=none"> <xsl:attribute name="href">viewdoc.aspx?doc=<xsl:value-of select="URLFilePath"/>&amp;mode=inline</xsl:attribute> <xsl:attribute name="prefix"><xsl:value-of select="FileName"/>: </xsl:attribute> <IMG src="images/word_small.gif" border="0"/> </A> and in the code-behind I am doing this newItemNode = xmlDocument.CreateElement("URLFilePath") newItemNode.InnerText = correctedPath xmlItemNode.ParentNode.AppendChild(newItemNode) Now that works fine for word documents. However I need a way in code to check the extension of the file, and display the correct Image and xsl:attribute depending on the If statement. So the If statement will be like this:- If correctedPath.ToLower.Contains(".doc") Then //display the word icon and attributes Else //display the excel icon and attributes End If Can you please give me some tips and help on how I can achieve this?     Hello, I'm developing a JEE application to run on Glassfish: Database (javaDB, MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle) EJB layer with JPA (Toplink essentials - from Glassfish) for database access JSF/Icefaces based web UI accessing the EJB layer The application will have a lot of concurrent web client, so I want to run it on different physical servers and use a load-balancer. My problem is now how to keep the applications synchronized. I intend to set up multiple servers, each running Glassfish with my EAR app installed. Whenever on one of the servers data is added to or removed from the database (via JPA, no direct SQL queries), this change should be reflected in the JPA layer on the other servers. I've been looking around for solutions to this, but couldn't find anything I really like (the full Toplink from Oracle claims to have a solution, but don't know). Doing a refresh before every access to a JPA entity could work, but is far from efficient. Are there any patterns, libraries, ... that could help here? Thanks a lot!

    I need to summarize a data frame by some variables, ignoring the others. This is sometimes referred to as collapsing. E.g. if I have a dataframe like this: Widget Type Energy egg 1 20 egg 2 30 jap 3 50 jap 1 60 Then collapsing by Widget, with Energy the dependent variable, Energy~Widget, would yield Widget Energy egg 25 jap 55 In Excel the closest functionality might be "Pivot tables" and I've worked out how to do it in python (http://alexholcombe.wordpress.com/2009/01/26/summarizing-data-by-combinations-of-variables-with-python/), and here's an example with R using doBy library to do something very related (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02643.html), but is there an easy way to do the above? And even better is there anything built into the ggplot2 library to create plots that collapse across some variables?

  • Is there a combination of "LIKE" and "IN" in SQL?

    Hi folks. In SQL I (sadly) often have to use "LIKE" conditions due to databases that violate nearly every rule of normalization. I can't change that right now. But that's irrelevant to the question. Further, I often use conditions like WHERE something in (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21) for better readability and flexibility of my SQL statements. Is there any possible way to combine these two things without writing complicated sub-selects? I want something as easy as WHERE something LIKE ('bla%', '%foo%', 'batz%') instead of WHERE something LIKE 'bla%' OR something LIKE '%foo%' OR something LIKE 'batz%' I'm working with MS SQl Server and Oracle here but I'm interested if this is possible in any RDBMS at all.

    I have a datagrid in flash 8 that has an array as a data provider. One of the items in the array is a number, which represents an amount of money. So I iterate through the array and create a new item "amountFormatted" in each line of the array. For example I have a value of 10 and a formatted value of £10.00 in the array. This formatted value then appears in the datagrid. This seems a little cumbersome and I wondered if there was a way to set some automatic function so that the column in the datagrid is automatically formatted. a bit like an excel column can have formatting applied to it.     Im Working on a creation of a query who uses INSERT SELECT statement using MS SQL Server 2008: INSERT INTO TABLE1 (col1, col2) SELECT col1, col2 FROM TABLE2 Right now the excecution of this query is inside a transaction: Pseudocode: try { begin transaction; query; commit; } catch { rollback; } If TABLE2 has around 40m of rows, at the moment of making the insert on the TABLE1, if there is an error in the middle of the INSERT, will the INSERT SELECT statement make a rollback itself or I need to use a transaction to preserve data integrity? It is necessary to use a transaction? or SQL SERVER it self uses a transaction for this type of sentences.

    What is the difference between IEditableObject and IRevertibleChangeTracking (both from the System.ComponentModel namespace)? It looks as if the first supports explicit transaction whilst the second is more implicit - but the net result is the same. How should I go about implementing this in code? At the moment I do nothing in BeginEdit and call RejectChanges and AcceptChanges in EndEdit and CancelEdit respectively. My problem is that this will also accept the changes made prior to the BeginEdit. Is that really what MS wanted or am I trying to implement two mutually exclusive interfaces?

The source data comes from SSRS report. The goal is to load the data into a database via SSIS. The hopeful goal is to avoid human intervention in having to download the SSRS report into Excel or CSV.     I need to convert a credit card expire field from MMYY to a date field I can use in a MS SQL query so I can compute when credit cards are expiring in the future. Basically, I need to go from MMYY to MM/DD/YYYY, where the day part could just be '01' (the first of the month). I'm looking for credit cards that are expiring next month from a database. The problem I'm running into is when next month is the first month of the next year.
