  • Windows 7 Samba issue

    We have a strange samba issue affecting only one user. Our samba setup is as follow : Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga) - Samba Server Samba version 3.0.33-3.14.el5 - Samba version Domain Controller WIN2008R2 Standard - Windows DC Windows 7 64 bit - Client PCs User mentioned that he faced this problem after he force shutdown his PC few weeks ago. By right, for all users when we access \\sambaservername in windows it will show all the shares in the samba server but for this user once he startup his PC he will not be able to access \\sambaservername, Error message Windows cannot access \\sambaservername Current workaround to solve the problem : Try to access one share in \\sambaservername for instance \\sambaservername\sharedfolder1. But even when doing so, it will first prompt an error in the beginning, error message is as follows Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. user need to enter the credentials again and he can access the share. Thereafter, he will be able to access \\sambaservername without any issues. But once he reboots his computer the problem will persists. Troubleshooting done so far: Ensure the following settings: Go to: Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Local Security Policy Select: Local Policies → Security Options "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" → Send LM & NTLM responses "Minimum session security for NTLM SSP" → uncheck: Require 128-bit encryption Advise user to reset his password and try again but problem still persists Tried my account on users' PC, there is no issues. Tried user account on serveral other Windows 7 PC including mine but problem still persists. Windows XP does not have this problem. Ensure that there is no stored crendentials on the windows 7 PC. Checked the credentials manager in Control Panel as well as typing this command rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr Restart winbindd daemon on samba server but to no avail. I suspect this is due to some caching issue but not sure where is the issue.   • Awesome new feature for HCC

    I've talked about HCC (Hybrid Columnar Compression) before. This is Oracle's built-in compression feature, free of charge in 11Gr2, that allows a CRAZY amount of compression on historical data inside an Oracle database. It only works if the database is being stored in a ZFSSA, Exadata or Axiom.   • Explaining Explain Plan Notes for Auto DOP

    I've recently gotten some questions around "why do I not see a parallel plan" while Auto DOP is on (I think)...? It is probably worthwhile to quickly go over some of the ways to find out what Auto DOP was thinking. In general, there is no need to go tracing sessions and look under the hood. The thing to start with is to do an explain plan on your statement and to look at the parameter settings on the system. Parameter Settings to Look At First and foremost, make sure that parallel_degree_policy = AUTO. If you have that parameter set to LIMITED you will not have queuing and we will only do the auto magic if your objects are set to default parallel (so no degree specified). Next you want to look at the value of parallel_degree_limit. It is typically set to CPU, which in default settings equates to the Default DOP of the system. If you are testing Auto DOP itself and the impact it has on performance you may want to leave it at this CPU setting. If you are running concurrent statements you may want to give this some more thoughts. See here for more information. In general, do stick with either CPU or with a specific number. For now avoid the IO setting as I've seen some mixed results with that... In 11.2.0.2 you should also check that IO Calibrate has been run. Best to simply do a: SQL> select * from V$IO_CALIBRATION_STATUS; STATUS        CALIBRATION_TIME ------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- READY         04-JAN-11 10.04.13.104 AM You should see that your IO Calibrate is READY and therefore Auto DOP is ready. In any case, if you did not run the IO Calibrate step you will get the following note in the explain plan: Note -----    - automatic DOP: skipped because of IO calibrate statistics are missing One more note on calibrate_io, if you do not have asynchronous IO enabled you will see:  ERROR at line 1: ORA-56708: Could not find any datafiles with asynchronous i/o capability ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_RMIN", line 463 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER", line 1296 ORA-06512: at line 7 While this is changed in some fixes to the calibrate procedure, you should really consider switching asynchronous IO on for your data warehouse. Explain Plan Explanation To see the notes that are shown and explained here (and the above little snippet ) you can use a simple explain plan mechanism. There should  be no need to add +parallel etc. explain plan for <statement> SELECT PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY()); Auto DOP The note structure displaying why Auto DOP did not work (with the exception noted above on IO Calibrate) is like this: Automatic degree of parallelism is disabled: <reason> These are the reason codes: Parameter -  parallel_degree_policy = manual which will not allow Auto DOP to kick in  Hint - One of the following hints are used NOPARALLEL, PARALLEL(1), PARALLEL(MANUAL) Outline - A SQL outline of an older version (before 11.2) is used SQL property restriction - The statement type does not allow for parallel processing Rule-based mode - Instead of the Cost Based Optimizer the system is using the RBO Recursive SQL statement - The statement type does not allow for parallel processing pq disabled/pdml disabled/pddl disabled - For some reason (alter session?) parallelism is disabled Limited mode but no parallel objects referenced - your parallel_degree_policy = LIMITED and no objects in the statement are decorated with the default PARALLEL degree. In most cases all objects have a specific degree in which case Auto DOP will honor that degree. Parallel Degree Limited When Auto DOP does it works you may see the cap you imposed with parallel_degree_limit showing up in the note section of the explain plan: Note -----    - automatic DOP: Computed Degree of Parallelism is 16 because of degree limit This is an obvious indication that your are being capped for this statement. There is one quite interesting one that happens when you are being capped at DOP = 1. First of you get a serial plan and the note changes slightly in that it does not indicate it is being capped (we hope to update the note at some point in time to be more specific). It right now looks like this: Note -----    - automatic DOP: Computed Degree of Parallelism is 1 Dynamic Sampling With 11.2.0.2 you will start seeing another interesting change in parallel plans, and since we are talking about the note section here, I figured we throw this in for good measure. If we deem the parallel (!) statement complex enough, we will enact dynamic sampling on your query. This happens as long as you did not change the default for dynamic sampling on the system. The note looks like this: Note ----- - dynamic sampling used for this statement (level=5)

    Note: this question is distinct from "How to disable automatically connecting to WiFi?", as I do not wish to disable automatic WiFi connection in general. Problem: The Ubuntu WiFi module connects automatically in priority with WiFi networks without a password, even if there is a already known password-protected WiFi network nearby. Worse, most of the times these "unprotected" networks are in fact hotspots that require authentification from the browser. Example: I am at home, and most of the times my Ubuntu laptop will connect by itself to a nearby hotspot instead of choosing my local ADSL box (password-protected, with a password that is already known by the computer). I then have to select my own WiFi network manually. Is there a way to disable automatic connection to /all/ hotspots ?

  • LDoms and Maintenance Mode

     I got a few questions about how maintenance mode works with LDoms. "I have a Control Domain that I need to do maintenance on. What does being put in maintenance mode actually do for a Control Domain?" Maintenance mode is what you use when you're going to be shutting a system down, or otherwise tinkering with it, and you don't want Ops Center to generate incidents and notification of incidents. Maintenance mode stops new incidents from being generated, but it doesn't stop polling, or monitoring, the system and it doesn't prevent alerts. "What does maintenance mode do with the guests on a Control Domain?" If you have auto recovery set and the Control Domain is a member of a server pool of eligible systems, putting the Control Domain in maintenance mode automatically migrates guests to an available Control Domain.  When a Control Domain is in maintenance mode, it is not eligible to receive guests and the placement policies for guest creation and for automatic recovery won't select this server as a possible destination. If there isn't a server pool or there aren't any eligible systems in the pool, the guests are shut down. You can select a logical domain from the Assets section to view the Dashboard for the virtual machine and the Automatic Recovery status, either Enabled or Disabled. To change the status, click the action in the Actions pane. "If I have to do maintenance on a system and I do not want to initiate auto-recovery, what do I have to do so that I can manually bring down the Control Domain (and all its Guest domains)?" Use the Disable Automatic Recovery action. "If I put a Control Domain into maintenance mode, does that also put the OS into maintenance mode?" No, just the Control Domain server. You have to put the OS into maintenance mode separately. "Also, is there an easy way to see what assets are in maintenance mode? Can we put assets into, or take them out of, maintenance mode on some sort of group level?" You can create a user-defined group that will automatically include assets in maintenance mode.     We released Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1 recently. OSC offers both High Availability (HA) and also Scalable Services capabilities. HA delivers automatic restart of software on the same cluster node and/or automatic failover from a failed node to a working cluster node. Software and support is available for both x86 and SPARC systems. The Scalable Services features manage multiple cluster nodes all providing a load-balanced service such as web servers or app serves. OSC 4.1 includes the ability to recover services from software failures, failure of hardware components such as DIMMs, CPUs, and I/O cards, a global file system, rolling upgrades, and much more. Source organizations can decide to ship a substitute item in case the original item is not available to be shipped. The application supports manual (using Related Items window) and automatic (using ATP functionality) substitutions.To substitute an item on ISO, you must ensure that the value of the Item Substitution on Internal Order system parameter is set to a value other than None. In addition, you must ensure to define substitute item relationships and automatic item substitution setup in the system. The application provides the option to not send the notifications when any change happens on the ISO related to quantity, schedule arrival date, or item. You can control these notifications using the OM: Send Notifications of Internal Order Change profile option.     I used this command from shell to repair all Databases mysqlcheck -u root -p --auto-repair --check --optimize --all-databases and after that I restarted the server when it came back alive again I tried to open my vBulletin forum but I recived Database error message. and also tried to open phpMyAdmin but I received this error : #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured). I checked the services list and found that the MySQL Service is not listed, so I tried to start it from shell I receive this error : Starting MySQL.Manager of pid-file quit without updating fi[FAILED] could anyone help me in that ? thanks in advance. update I found these lines in the log file 101101 01:36:01 mysqld started 101101 1:36:01 [Warning] Asked for 196608 thread stack, but got 126976 101101 1:36:01 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Table './mysql/user' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed 101101 1:36:01 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Table './mysql/user' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed 101101 1:36:01 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table './mysql/user' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed 101101 01:36:01 mysqld ended What should I do then ?

  • Windows 7 Cable Connection Rehabilitation

    I recently switched the operating system of my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7. My web-connection is such that I need to identify everytime before connecting. Since there is no automatic identification request, while using Windows XP I was used to de-abilitate and rehabilitate the cable connection after every switching on. I successfully installed the web-connection on Windows 7, and later on I switched the computer off and on (simply because I had to sleep!). After restarting the computer, since there was no automatic identification request, I de-abilitate the cable connection. But this time I didn't find any way to rehabilitate it! Do you have any suggestions on how to solve the problem? My "Wired AutoConfiguration" has the startup type "Automatic", but it's not enough to restart automatically the cable connection! I tried to do some standard things like restart the computer, unplug and plug in again the cable, reinstall the web-connection from the scratch... But nothing worked! Thank you very much for your help!

  • ASP.NET MVC Session Expiration

    We have an internal ASP.NET MVC application that requires a logon. Log on works great and does what's expected. We have a session expiration of 15 minutes. After sitting on a single page for that period of time, the user has lost the session. If they attempt to refresh the current page or browse to another, they will get a log on page. We keep their request stored so once they've logged in they can continue on to the page that they've requested. This works great. However, my issue is that on some pages there are AJAX calls. For example, they may fill out part of a form, wander off and let their session expire. When they come back, the screen is still displayed. If they simply fill in a box (which will make an AJAX call) the AJAX call will return the Logon page (inside of whatever div the AJAX should have simply returned the actual results). This looks horrible. I think that the solution is to make the page itself expire (so that when a session is terminated, they automatically are returned to the logon screen without any action by them). However, I'm wondering if there are opinions/ideas on how best to implement this specifically in regards to best practices in ASP.NET MVC.

  • IIS to SQL Server kerberos auth issues

    We have a 3rd party product that allows some of our users to manipulate data in a database (on what we'll call SvrSQL) via a website on a separate server (SvrWeb). On SvrWeb, we have a specific, non-default website setup for this application so instead of going to http://SvrWeb.company.com to get to the website we use http://application.company.com which resolves to SvrWeb and the host headers resolve to the correct website. There is also a specific application pool set up for this site which uses an Active Directory account identity we'll call "company\SrvWeb_iis". We're setup to allow delegation on this account and to allow it to impersonate another login which we want it to do. (we want this account to pass along the AD credentials of the person signed into the website to SQL Server instead of a service account. We also set up the SPNs for the SrvWeb_iis account via the following command: setspn -A HTTP/SrvWeb.company.com SrvWeb_iis The website pulls up, but the section of the website that makes the call to the database returns the message: Cannot execute database query. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. I thought we had the SPN information set up correctly, but when I check the security event log on SrvWeb I see entries of my logging in, but it seems to be using NTLM and not kerberos: Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Any ideas or articles that cover this setup in detail would be extremely appreciated! If it helps, we are using SQL Server 2005, and both the web and SQL servers are Windows 2003.

  • Prompting for authentication from a wxPython program and passing it along to IIS?

    I have a client (written in Python, with a wxPython front end in dead-simple wizard style) which communicates a website running IIS. A python script receives requests and does the usual client-server dance. I would have written this as a browser application, but for the requirement that certain things happen on the local PC that the web can't help with (file manipulation, interfacing with certain USB hardware, etc.) Right now, I am simply using the logon credentials, compounded as a string from os.environ['USERDOMAIN'] and os.environ['USERNAME'], to pass along to the server, which connects to Active Directory and enumerates the members of the group, looking for those logon credentials. It's an ugly hack, but it works. Obviously, I could make people log out of the generic helper accounts and log back into Windows using specific accounts. However, I wondered how feasible it would be to provide some kind of logon prompt wherein the user can type in a name and password, then some kind of authorization token could be passed on to IIS. This seems like something I would not want to do myself, given that amateurs almost always make huge security mistakes. Now you can see why I am wishing this was purely web-based. What's a good way to handle this?

  • Windows Service Start-Up Error 1069

    Hello, I am installing a new windows service coded in C# on a server. I installed the service fine on the server, but once i manually start up the service on a server, with the same login credentials that our other services use, i get the fatal error message notification: "Could not start the %service name% on Local Computer. Error 1069: The Service did not start due to a logon failure." I looked in the event log and i got a 7038 and 7000 event id error in that order. 7038 event id message: "The %service name% service was unable to log on as %login% with the currently configured password due to the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC)." 7000 event id message: "The %service name% service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not start due to a logon failure. " I have other services that are using the same exact login account and they work fine. Is there something simple I could be missing? Thanks

    Hey all, this is my first post. I recently upgraded a wordpress site, all things load but on the top of the page and bottom of the page I get this error. Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_6v2kul3t823ah9074g3cl2lrt6, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/admin_m3/incommunion.org/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/wordpress-automatic-upgrade.php on line 121 How can I remove it from the page? I believe the server automatically upgraded the version of Wordpress. Any idea? Newbie A
