  • The benefits and hassles of moving entirely to a WPF Project

    Hi, I have a project that i started as a WinForms application as that was the format i was confortable with at the time. I have since started dabbling in WPF an introduced some WPF UserControls (mainly grids) into my project and absolutely love them. The question i have is, is there any real advantage to me changing the UI Project of my solution into a purely WPF project, and get rid of any WinForms? I am fully aware that each format suits a certain environment, and you wouldnt be able to give a definitive answer without knowing more of the details, but i would like to know peoples opinions, and if anyone has done a silimar thing of converting an existing WinForms App into a WPF frontend, and any observations they made in doing so.   • add paddingRight just to specific column of flex grid

    Whenever I add paddingRight to a column in the flex grid, it adds the padding to the header as well. Is anyone familiar with how I can add paddingRight just to the column and not to the header?   • Restarting ColdFusion mail queue

    We are currently experiencing intermittent mail queue stoppages. I'm seeking diagnostic help in another area. In the meantime, is there a way to restart the CF mail queue without restarting the service as a whole? CF8 standard Win2k3 Solution: We are now checking the age of the oldest file in the mail queue. When it exceeds a set age (currently 30 min) the mail queue is restarted.

    I am trying to generate all the solutions for the following equations for a given H. With H=4 : 1) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 + x_3 + x_4 =4 2) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 + x_3 = 4 3) ALL solutions for x_1 + x_2 = 4 4) ALL solutions for x_1 =4 For my problem, there are always 4 equations to solve (independently from the others). There are a total of 2^(H-1) solutions.   • PHP/MySQL User system w/ groups.

    I have a user system set up in a 'users' table, and I have groups set up in a 'groups' table. Essentially, I want users to be able to join any and all the groups that they want, in the same was as one would on facebook. How would one go about structuring this in a mysql/php database system? Just a quick summary would be helpful! I've looked around, but I can only find info on creating 'groups' where the users just have a sort of 1, 2 or 3 permission rank. Thanks!

    We're looking for a cheap-to-free "off the shelf" ASP.NET catalogue application, that will meet the following requirements: Support two kinds of listings: Suppliers of Services Suppliers of Products, and their Products Suppliers can be categorised by: Area of specialisation - including sub-categories Location Other data, e.g. where listing came from Versioning of supplier/product details Easy to use management interface Use masterpages so we can drop it into our existing site layout Run on a Windows 2003 server, with .NET 3.5 installed In an ideal world, the following additional requirements might be met: Suppliers can manage their own listings Other products that are available to us (that will obviously need some additional development to meet these requirements) are: Content Management System (MS) Commerce Server - bear in mind we're not selling the products/suppliers, just listing them Simple DB application.   • @font-face fonts only work on their own domain

    I am trying to create a type of font repository for use on my websites, so that I can call to any font in the repository in my css without any other set-up. To do this I created a subdomain on which I placed folders for each font in the repository that contained the various file types for each font. I also placed a css file called font-face.css on the root of the subdomain and filled it with @font-face declarations for each of the fonts, the fonts a linked with an absolute link so that they can be used from anywhere. My issue is that it seems that I can only use the fonts on that subdomain where they are located, on my other sites the font does not show. Using firebug I determined that the font-face.css file was successfully being linked to and loaded. So why does the font not correctly load? Is there protection on the font files or something? I am using all fonts that I should be allowed to do this with, so I don't see why this is occurring. Maybe it is an apache issue, but I can download the font just fine when I link to it. Oh, and just to clarify, I am not violating any copyrights by setting this up, all the fonts I am using are licensed to allow this sort of thing. I would however like to set up a way that only I can have access to this repository of fonts but that's another project.

    I keep getting the error( this is in Matlab) Attempted to access r(0,0); index must be a positive integer or logical.   • Add New Gist using the Github API

    I'm making a small app in Adobe Air which I need to interact with the Github Gist API. However I'm kind of stuck. If you're not familiar with Adobe Air you can still help, the XMLHttpRequest javascript object can do cross domain requests, as there is no domain as such. So theres nothing Adobe Air specific here. Where I'm stuck is I think I need to authenticate myself then make the POST. I just don't understand it

  • How can I adjust the CommandTImeout in DbFit for long running queries?

    Is there any way to increase the CommandTimeout for DbFit queries? I have a long running stored procedure that times out when running it in a DbFit Test. It's possible for the procedure to run for a really long time (processing millions of records) and would like to have DbFit wait until it's completed, even if it takes several minutes. We are using the latest version of FitSharp (downloaded it yesterday) and use the version of DbFit that is included with FitSharp.

  • Linq to object - Select Distinct

    Hi, I can't quite figure out why this Linq Statement isn't working as i would expect: Dim distinctSurchargesList = (From thisparent As Parent In ThisParentCollection _ From thisChild As Child In thisparent.theseChildren _ Select New With {.childId = thischild.Id}).Distinct() I would assume that this would create a new collection of anonymous types, that would be distinct. Instead it creates a collection the size of the "ThisParentCollection" with duplicate "MyAnonymousType" in it (duplicate id's). Can anyone tell me where im going wrong? Thanks

  • Why does UIImageView "darken"/saturate PNG images, and can I stop it?

    I have a PNG file in a UIImageView, and next to that I have an EAGLView which displays the continuation of that same image (long story) as a texture, carved from the same original PNG. The point is, that these images, which should match up flawlessly, actually have somewhat differing color saturation. Normally I'd blame my handling of the PNG texture load in GL, but when I hold Preview (with the PNG) up to the iPhone simulator, it's GL that's spot on, and the UIImageView that's wrong! It's taken the image and made it ever-so-slightly more saturated. The image view is opaque with 100% alpha. I verified this on a clean UIImageView with another PNG file when put next to Preview. Anyone know what's up?

    I'm using the jQuery validation plugin to validate a form, and I'd like to remove the validation and submit the form if a certain link is clicked. I am submitting form with javascript like jQuery('form#listing').submit(), so I must remove the validation rules/function with javascript. The problem is that I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried things like jQuery('form#listing').validate({}); and jQuery('form#listing').validate = null, but with no luck.

  • Saxon XSLT-Transformation: How to change serialization of an empty tag from <x/> to <x></x>?

    Hello folks! I do some XSLT-Transformation using Saxon HE 9.2 with the output later being unmarshalled by Castor 1.3.1. The whole thing runs with Java at the JDK 6. My XSLT-Transformation looks like this: <xsl:transform version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:ns="http://my/own/custom/namespace/for/the/target/document"> <xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8" indent="no" /> <xsl:template match="/"> <ns:item> <ns:property name="id"> <xsl:value-of select="/some/complicated/xpath" /> </ns:property> <!-- ... more ... --> </xsl:template> So the thing is: if the XPath-expression /some/complicated/xpath evaluates to an empty sequence, the Saxon serializer writes <ns:property/> instead of <ns:property></ns:property>. This, however, confuses the Castor unmarshaller, which is next in the pipeline and which unmarshals the output of the transformation to instances of XSD-generated Java-code. So my question is: How can I tell the Saxon-serializer to output empty tags not as standalone tags?   • When *not* to use prepared statements?

    I'm re-engineering a PHP-driven web site which uses a minimal database. The original version used "pseudo-prepared-statements" (PHP functions which did quoting and parameter replacement) to prevent injection attacks and to separate database logic from page logic. It seemed natural to replace these ad-hoc functions with an object which uses PDO and real prepared statements, but after doing my reading on them, I'm not so sure. PDO still seems like a great idea, but one of the primary selling points of prepared statements is being able to reuse them… which I never will. Here's my setup: The statements are all trivially simple. Most are in the form SELECT foo,bar FROM baz WHERE quux = ? ORDER BY bar LIMIT 1. The most complex statement in the lot is simply three such selects joined together with UNION ALLs. Each page hit executes at most one statement and executes it only once. I'm in a hosted environment and therefore leery of slamming their servers by doing any "stress tests" personally. Given that using prepared statements will, at minimum, double the number of database round-trips I'm making, am I better off avoiding them? Can I use PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_DIRECT_QUERY to avoid the overhead of multiple database trips while retaining the benefit of parametrization and injection defense? Or do the binary calls used by the prepared statement API perform well enough compared to executing non-prepared queries that I shouldn't worry about it? EDIT: Thanks for all the good advice, folks. This is one where I wish I could mark more than one answer as "accepted" — lots of different perspectives. Ultimately, though, I have to give rick his due… without his answer I would have blissfully gone off and done the completely Wrong Thing even after following everyone's advice. :-) Emulated prepared statements it is!

  • PHP script works fine until I send it a parameter from HTTPService in Flash Builder 4?

    I'm using a PHP script to read an RSS feed in my Flex 4 app. The script works when I put the url of the feed in the actual script, but I can't get it to work when I try to send the URL as a parameter from a HTTPService in Flex. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?   • Can I expose only a portion of one .NET DLL's public classes via a different "API" DLL?

    I am designing a WPF application that uses a DLL with maybe 40 public classes. I need these to be public for a variety of reasons including ease of data binding and obfuscation. I would like to allow other people to use only a portion of these classes as an API for my software. I thought I would create the main library (core.dll) and an API library (coreAPI.dll) with the API DLL to be referenced in a new project. Is there a way to allow coreAPI.dll to expose only a few of the classes that exist in core.dll? It's not so much a security issue as I primarily want to simply hide some of the unwanted classes from the Visual Studio Intellisense. Again, internal classes for the ones I want to hide is not really an option because I need to data bind some of these classes in WPF and for that, they must be public. Are there any other ways of doing this?

  • Count all lists of adjacent nodes stored in an array.

    There are many naive approaches to this problem, but I'm looking for a good solution. Here is the problem (will be implemented in Java): You have a function foo(int a, int b) that returns true if 'a' is "adjacent" to 'b' and false if 'a' is not adjacent to 'b'. You have an array such as this [1,4,5,9,3,2,6,15,89,11,24], but in reality has a very long length, like 120, and will be repeated over and over (its a genetic algorithm fitness function) which is why efficiency is important. I want a function that returns the length of each possible 'list' of adjacencies in the array, but not including the 'lists' which simply subsets of a larger list. For example, if foo(1,4) - true, foo(4,5) - true, foo(5,9)- false, foo(9,3) & foo(3,2) & foo(2,6), foo(6,15) - true, then there are 'lists' (1,4,5) and (9,3,2,6), so length 3 and 4. I don't want it to return (3,2,6), though, because this is simply a subset of 9,3,2,6. Thanks.

  • Design Question on when to save

    Hi, I was just after peoples opinion on when the best time to save an object (or collection of objects) is. I appreciate that it can be completely dependent on the situation that you are in but here is my situation. I have a collection of objects "MyCollection" in a grid. You can open each object "MyObject" in an editor dialogue by double clicking on the grid. Selecting "Cancel" on the dialogue will back out any changes you have made, but should selecting "ok" commit those changes back to the database, or should they commit the changes on that object back to the collection and have a save method that iterates through the collection and saves all changed objects? If i have an object "MyParentObject", that contains a collection of childen "MyChildObjectCollection", none of the changes made to each "MyChildObject" would be commited to the database until the "MyParentObject" was saved - this makes sense. However in my current situation, none of the objects in the collection are linked, therefore should the "Ok" on the dialogue commit the changes to the database? Appreciate any opinions on this.   • rails accessing value from facebooker hash/array

    This is my first time using the facebooker plugin with rails, and I'm having trouble accessing user info. The website uses FB connect to authenticate users. I am trying to get the name of the university that the logged in user attends. When I use the command <%= facebook_session.user.education_history[:name] %>, I get an error "Symbol as array index". I have also tried using education_history[1], but that just returns "# Facebooker::EducationInfo:<some sort of alphanumeric hash value>" When I use something like <%= facebook_session.user.relationship_status %> , it returns the relationship status just fine. Similarly, <%= facebook_session.user.hometown_location.city %> returns the city name just fine. I've checked out the documentation for facebooker, but I can't figure out the correct way to get the values I need. Any idea on how to get this to work? Thanks!

  • UIView animation only animating some of the things I ask it to

    I have a series of (say) boxes on the screen in a row, all subviews of my main view. Each is a UIView. I want to shift them all left and have a new view also enter the screen from the right in lockstep. Here's what I'm doing: // First add a dummy view offscreen UIView * stagingView = /* make this view, which sets up its width/height */ CGRect frame = [stagingView frame]; frame.origin.x = /* just off the right side of the screen */; [stagingView setFrame:frame]; [self stagingView]; And then I set up animations in one block for all of my subviews (which includes the one I just added): [UIView beginAnimations:@"shiftLeft" context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(_animationDidStop:context:)]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; for (UIView * view in [self subviews]) { CGRect frame = [view frame]; frame.origin.x -= (frame.size.width + viewPadding); [view setFrame:frame]; } [UIView commitAnimations]; Here's what I expect: The (three) views already on screen get shifted left and the newly staged view marches in from the right at the same time. Here's what happens: The newly staged view animates in exactly as expected, and the views already on the screen do not appear to move at all! (Or possibly they jump without animation to their end locations). And! If I comment out the whole business of creating the new subview offscreen... the ones onscreen do animate correctly! Huh?
