  I have a model structure: Category hasMany Product hasMany Stockitem belongsTo Warehouse, Manufacturer. I fetch data with this code, using containable to be able to filter deeper in the associated models: $this->Category->find('all', array( 'conditions' => array('Category.id' => $category_id), 'contain' => array( 'Product' => array( 'Stockitem' => array( 'conditions' => array('Stockitem.warehouse_id' => $warehouse_id), 'Warehouse', 'Manufacturer', ) ) ), ) ); Data structure is returned just fine, however, I get multiple repeating queries like, sometimes hundreds of such queries in a row, based on dataset. SELECT `Warehouse`.`id`, `Warehouse`.`title` FROM `beta_warehouses` AS `Warehouse` WHERE `Warehouse`.`id` = 2 Basically, when building data structure Cake is fetching data from mysql over and over again, for each row. We have datasets of several thousand rows, and I have a feeling that it's going to impact performance. Is it possible to make it cache results and not repeat same queries?

  Hi, I have this user control: <user:RatingStars runat="server" product="<%= getProductId() %>" category="<%= getCategoryId() %>"></user:RatingStars> You see that i fill the product and category by calling two methods: public string getProductId() { return productId.ToString(); } public string getCategoryId() { return categoryId.ToString(); } I do not understand why, in the user control, when i take the data received (product and category) it gives me "<%= getProductId() %" instead of giving the id received from that method... Any help would be kindly appreciated...

• Format SQL Query Result into web menu

  I am trying to bhuild a drill down menu for my website, where user will click on a category and it will show the subcategories of that clicked category, there could be n-levels. I am able to write sql query which returns the output exactaly as I want, but the problem is...I dont want to show the whole menu to end user, I would like to open/expand only clicked category. my Query output is: 1 IPTV 2 Jadoo Tv 3 Shava Tv 4 Jalva Tv 5 Programming 6 Microsoft 7 Asp.Net 8 PHP so by default IPTV & Programming Should be displayed, since they are parent, and when I click on IPTV it should open the children of IPTV, like I said there could be n-levels. I was thinking, I can load the output of query to webpage and then control the menu navigation with css/javascript. do you guys have any ideas?

  I have a managed object with a dueDate attribute. If I change my sectionNameKeyPath to just "dueDate" then everything works fine. I think that's because the dueDate attribute never changes whereas the category will be different when read back after the finishedDate attribute changes. Please help!   I have a mySQL database with a tad under 2 million rows. The database is non-interactive, so efficiency isn't key. The (simplified) structure I have is: `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment `category` varchar(64) NOT NULL `productListing` varchar(256) NOT NULL Now the problem I would like to solve is, I want to find duplicates on productListing field, merge the data on the category field into a single result - deleting the duplicates.   There are 2 Models: Project & Category that are bind with HABTM relationship. I would like to perform a search from projects controller that can do the following: FIND all DISTINCT Project.scedule WHERE Category.slug != 'uncategorised' Apologies for the syntax, I'm no sequel expert. What I have managed to do is to retrieve all projects that do not belong to Category uncategorised into an array however I'm not sure as to how to search again the array result for DISTINCT Project.schedule values (needed to fill out a form drop down) I hope I made myself clear.

• Neo4j+Gremlin : Trouble with T.gte and floating point node attributes

  For a type of nodes in my graph, attribute values for an attribute(named 'some_count') is either missing or an integer or a float. I'm trying to write gremlin to filter these nodes based on minimum value for this attribute. I first verified that the values are indeed present by firing the following gremlin g.v(XXX)._().in('category').hasNot('some_count', T.eq, null).back(1).some_count Next, I tried filtering by exact value and that works and show me the matching nodes or gives an empty array if there is no match g.v(XXX)._().in('category').hasNot('some_count', T.eq, null).back(1).has('some_count', T.eq, 120000.0d) But the following query that uses the 'greater than or equal to' comparator doesn't work. g.v(XXX)._().in('category').hasNot('some_count', T.eq, null).back(1).has('some_count', T.gte, 1.0d) this returns nil (I'm querying via ruby/rails using Neo4j AR Adapter ) Instead of returning an empty array for no match, it returns a nil, which tells me something could be wrong with the query itself. I'm running neo4j community server 1.8. Is there a way I can ask Neo4j to log errors/queries, to see what could be going wrong ?

• Best practice in Rails when editing scaffold made pages

  I have a best practice question. I have two classes, company and category. They have a many-to-many relationship. When clicking a category I shall go to a page showing all companies with the chosen category. Pretty straight forward. My question is: Should I list all the companies on the companies/index.html.erb after filtering the companies in the controller? or Should I list all the companies on the categories/show.html.erb page? or Should I do a completely new page, since it doesn't really fit into any of the two above? Do you generally make a new page when your goal doesn't fit the scaffold made pages or do you use them quite freely? I am working/learning alone with rails, so there are a lot of best practice questions popping up all the time. Cheers Carl

  For my website i have tables Category :: id | name Product :: id | name | categoryid Now each category may have different sizes, for that I have also created a table Size :: id | name | categoryid | price Now the problem is that each category has also different ingredients that customer can choose to add to his purchased product. And these ingredients have different prices for different sizes. For that I also have a table like Ingredient :: id | name | sizeid | categoryid | price I am not sure if this Structure really normalized is.   Howdy - today a weird problem occured to me: I have a modle class in Django and added a custom property to it that shall not be saved into the database and therefore is not represent in the models structure: class Category(models.Model): groups = models.ManyToManyField(Group) title = defaultdict() Now, when I'm within the shell or writing a test and I do the following: c1 = Category.objects.create() c1.title['de'] = 'german title' print c1.title['de'] # prints "german title" c2 = Category.objects.create() print c2.title['de'] # prints "german title" <-- WTF? It seems that 'title' is kind of global. If I change title to a simple string it works as expected, so it has to do something with the dict? • Cant append "used" DOMObject in IE

Area is jQuery object. In other browsers (except IE) i get area with all needed categories, but in IE i get only new received categories(that just create DomObject), other old objects that keeped old DomObject not show. I know it possible make with innerHTML, but i wont keep DomObject, not text. Because DomObject keep many events. And it very hard for browser attach events for each DomObject after refresh area.

I have a simple Categories table with Id as the primary key: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Category]( [Id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [CategoryName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, ) My Query is: SELECT * FROM FREETEXTTABLE (Category, CategoryName, 'music') AS F INNER JOIN Category C ON F.[Key] = C.Id ORDER BY F.Rank DESC This returns me several records with the word music in them, but it does NOT return any record with word ‘musical’. Although, it can be said that the string being searched is not very big and using the LIKE operator will resolve it. I would like to use fulltext search because this simple example is going to be extended to include other tables and fileds.

• Rails model to represent multiple fields

  I'm developing a rails project where I have one data model with multiple fields that are collection selects. I'd like to create another model to represent all of these collection select fields. So, for instance, my main data model has three collection select fields -- one for county, one for category, and one for classification. I could separate these into three separate data models, but that seems redundant since they all share the same characteristics. They have a type and a value, like a county is a county and it has a value of let's say Sonoma, just as category has a type of category and a value of let's say Winery. If you've ever used Drupal, I'm basically looking for the behavior of the taxonomy functionality. So you see my dilemma: I need to separate these fields into three separate fields but they have very similar data structures. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello! I'm looking for a little database design advice... I have a spreadsheet with a few columns in it. Column 1 being a list of categories and the rest being related categories(to the category in column 1). I'm trying to figure out what the best way to setup the tables would be... My thought so far is to have a table that just lists the categories then have a table with 2 columns that holds the id of the category and the id of a related category.... Would this be the best way to do this? Any better ideas?

• Pattern for unidirectional has_many join?

  It occurred to me that if I have a has_many join, where the foreign model does not have a belongs_to, and so the join is one way, then I don't actually need a foreign key. We could have a column, category_ids, which stores a marshaled Array of IDs which we can pass to find. Is there a way to determine which category an applet is assigned to using conical Names using the shell? such as Microsoft.Mouse is in which category? I have some code that works nicely to display control panel applet names obtained from the shell in a TListView in a Vista Classic ungrouped list. I'd like to try to group the applet names in the TListView similar to Control Panel Classic Grouped by Category in Vista. Bill

I'm not sure how / why it is trying to convert "Category" to integer as in the db it is a string. Can you please tell me how to avoid this error? thanks.

  I have 1 magento installation with 2 websites. i want to set a subcategory from website 1 as rootcategory of website 2. and i don't know the id of the category, because this is local and has to work on production with other categories. So i can't set the id of the wanted category in code. it must be adjustable in the backend. in system-manage stores- select a store here you can set the rootcategory but there are no subcategories available. is the only solution to build a module to select the id of the category?

• Disable Opera Thumbnail Previews on Windows 7 Taskbar

  If you are one of the people who does not care for the Taskbar Thumbnail Previews in Windows 7 then we have a quick and easy way for you to turn them off in Opera Browser. Before Here is our Opera Browser with four tabs full of HTG Network goodness… Hovering the mouse over the Taskbar Icon gives a nice preview of each tabs content. Looking closer you can see the fanned edge on the Taskbar Icon indicating that there are multiple tabs open. This is all good but what if you just want something simpler? Disabling the Previews If you want to disable the Taskbar Thumbnail Previews in Opera you will need to type opera:config in the Address Bar and press Enter. Once you have done that, you will see a condensed listing for all of Opera’s preferences. There is one Preference Category that we need to look for…User Prefs. Note: While a Quick Find Search could be conducted for the entry that needs to be modified, we have chosen to show the full method here. After scrolling down and finding the User Prefs category you will need to expand the section. Notice the size of the scrollbar in comparison with the screenshot above…there is quite a lot that you can look at and finesse in Opera if desired. Scroll down until you find the Use Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnails entry. Uncheck the box but do not close the opera:config Tab yet…or your changes will not take effect. Scroll down once more until you reach the end of the User Prefs category and click Save. With this particular modification you will need to restart Opera after clicking OK. After restarting Opera the Taskbar Icon and Taskbar Thumbnail Preview will revert to the minimal Windows 7 default as shown here. You can see Opera’s Tab Bar in the thumbnail and the Taskbar Icon no longer has a “fanned edge”. Conclusion If you want to disable Opera’s Taskbar Thumbnail Previews on your Windows 7 system, then this quick modification will help get it sorted out in just a few moments. • Going for Gold

  There was a spring in the step of some members of our development teams here at Red Gate, on hearing that on five gold awards at 2012′s SQL Mag Community and Editors Choice Awards. And why not? It’s a nice recognition that their efforts were appreciated by many in the SQL Server community. The team at Simple-Talk don’t tend to spring, but even we felt a twinge of pride in the fact that SQL Scripts Manager received Gold for Editor’s Choice in the Best Free Tools category. The tool began life as a “Down Tools” project and is one that we’ve supported and championed in various articles on Simple-talk.com. Over a Cambridge Bitter in the Waggon and Horses, we’ve often reflected on how nice it would be to nominate our own awards. Of course, we’d have to avoid nominating Red Gate tools in each category, even the free ones, for fear of seeming biased,  but we could still award other people’s free tools, couldn’t we? So allow us to set the stage for the annual Simple-Talk Community Tool awards… Onto the platform we shuffle, to applause from the audience; Chris in immaculate tuxedo, Alice in stunning evening gown, Dave and Tony looking vaguely uncomfortable, Andrew somehow distracted, as if his mind is elsewhere. Tony strides up to the lectern, and coughs lightly…”In the free-tool category we have the three nominations, and they are…” (rustle of the envelope opening) Ola Hallengren’s SQL Server Maintenance Solution (applause) Adam Machanic’s WhoIsActive (cheers, more applause) Brent Ozar’s sp_Blitz (much clapping) “Before we declare the winner, I’d like to say a few words in recognition of a grand tradition in a SQL Server community that continues to offer its members a steady supply of excellent, free tools. It hammers home the fundamental principle that a tool should solve a single, pressing and frustrating problem, but you should only ever build your own solution to that problem if you are certain that you cannot buy it, or that someone has not already provided it free. We have only three finalists tonight, but I feel compelled to mention a few other tools that we also use and appreciate, such as Microsoft’s Logparser, Open source Curl, Microsoft’s TableDiff.exe, Performance Analysis of Logs (PAL) Tool, SQL Server Cache Manager and SQLPSX.” “And now I’ll hand over to Alice to announce the winner.” Alice strides over to the microphone, tearing open the envelope. “The winner,” she pauses for dramatic effect “… is …Ola Hallengren’s SQL Server Maintenance Solution!” Queue much applause and consumption of champagne.
