• Good examples of .NET (C#) open source projects ported to Java?

  I notice several well-known projects in java that were ported to C# .NET. Some examples: Hibernate - NHibernate JUnit -- NUnit Ant -- NAnt Lucene -- Lucene.Net, NLucene iText -- iTextSharp log4j -- log4net Quartz -- Quartz.NET I was curious about the reverse situation: what are the notable .NET projects that have been ported to the java world? I looked at the list of projects at http://csharp-source.net but didn't see any obvious ones.

  I was quite surprised why I tried to multiply a float in C (with GCC 3.2) and that it did not do as I expected.. As a sample: int main() { float nb = 3.11f; nb *= 10; printf("%f\n", nb); } Displays: 31.099998 I am curious regarding the way floats are implemented and why it produces this unexpected behavior?

  Since you cannot use the normal 'update' and 'update_attribute' methods from ActiveRecord to update a protected attribute, is the following the best way to update an attribute for a single user? • multiple validation errors showing up for single property

  i'm often getting multiple errors showing up for an individual property, when I'd like them to be prioritized, as in, if Required is satisfied, check StringLength, but if Required fails, show that message only. I'm getting inconsistent behavior here, and I'm curious as to how the framework determines this priority? has anyone else had problems with this? Thanks!

• Has anyone gotten VB highlighting to work in Emacs23?

  I have found and installed the visual basic mode for emacs. It seems to be loading on emacs startup and the VB mode loads when I open a *.bas file. The code is not highlighted at all, however. I'm using Emacs23, tried it with 21 and saw no difference. Background for the curious: I am rewriting a set of codes from VB to Python. The syntax highlighting will make it much easier for me to see what's going on.

  Does the original data type of the username string in a call to FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(...) make any difference with regards to security or code maintainability? As I understand it, the cookie is encrypted and used to identify a user on each request. I'm curious whether it should affect the design of the primary key on my Users table in my database, eg. Guid vs int or a unique username string.

• Scraping data from Flash (Games)

  I saw this video, and I am really curious how it was performed. Does anyone have any ideas? My intuition is that he scraped pixels from the screen (one per 'box'), and then fed that into some program to determine the next move.   I am curious as to why an implicit cast fails in... int? someValue = SomeCondition ? ResultOfSomeCalc() : null; and why I have to perform an explicit cast instead int? someValue = SomeCondition ? ResultofSomeCalc() : (int?)null; It seems to me that the compiler has all the information it need to make an implicit casting decision, no?
