  • Rewrite this function as DB query?

    - by aLk
    I'm cleaning up my code, should i change the following function to a MySQL query? If so what would be a nice MySQL function to achieve this functionality? public ArrayList getNewTitles(ArrayList candidateTitles, ArrayList existingTitles) { ArrayList newTitles = new ArrayList(); Movie movie = new Movie(); boolean isNew = true; for(int i=0; i<candidateTitles.size(); i++) { for(int j=0; j<existingTitles.size(); j++) { movie = (Movie)existingTitles.get(j); if(((String)candidateTitles.get(i)).equals(movie.getRawTitle())) { isNew = false; } } if(isNew == true) { System.out.println("newTitle for crawling: " + (String)candidateTitles.get(i)); newTitles.add((String)candidateTitles.get(i)); } else { System.out.println("candidate binned: " + (String)candidateTitles.get(i)); } isNew = true; } return newTitles; }

  • Dynamically Specify Linked Server and DB Names in Stored Procedure

    - by hgulyan
    I have the same query in a stored procedure that needs to be executed on different servers and databases according to parameters. How can I arrange this without exec or sp_executesql? I'm using SQL Server 2008. Thank you. UPDATE I've found some links http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29397800/dynamically-specify-serve.aspx http://www.sommarskog.se/dynamic_sql.html Is using SYNONYM possible solution? If yes, than how? UPDATE 2 I forgot to mention that all this servers are linked to the server where stored procedure is stored.

  • array insert in db

    - by gloris
    Hi, How best to put the array (100 or more length) in the database (MySQL)? I do not want multiple access to the database because it is so loaded. So my solution is as follows: string insert = "INSERT INTO programs (name, id) VALUES "; for(int i = 0; i < name.Length; i++) { if (i != 0) { insert = insert + ",("; } else { insert = insert + "("; } insert = insert + "'" + name[i] + "','" + id[i] + "'"; insert = insert + ")"; } //INSERT INTO programs (name, id) VALUES ('Peter','32'),('Rikko','343') .... But maybe is a faster version? Thanks

  • How Can I Join Two DB Tables and Return Lowest Price From Joined Table

But I keep getting all the prices returned and I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it. this is what I get returned in my query: SELECT * FROM products AS pr JOIN prices AS p ON pr.id = p.product_id WHERE pr.live = 1 AND p.live = 1 id product1 name description £100 id product1 name description £300 id product1 name description £200 id product2 name description £50 id product2 name description £80 id product2 name description £60 id product3 name description £222 id product3 name description £234 id product3 name description £235 but I'm after: id product1 name description £100 id product2 name description £50 id product3 name description £222 Any help would be appreciated

  • php menu generated from a db

    - by Duncan Benoit
    Hi there, I have a database with products organized by categories and subcategories. The thing is that I generate a menu by querying the categories table. Because categories are almost the same(they can change/add once a month or something), I don't think I have to query the database for each access of the web-page. Do you have a better idea for me? Many thanks! ps: i'm using the cakephp framework

  • Setting up separate ctags db's for C/C++ standard libs, boost, and third party libs

    - by Robert S. Barnes
    I want to set up separate ctags databases for various libraries in /usr/include/ for use with OmniCppComplete. The idea is to be able to pull in only the libraries needed for a particular project in the target language - C or C++. For example, I'd like to have one database for the standard C libraries, one for system libraries that might be used by either C or C++ programs ( sockets / networking comes to mind ) one for the standard C++ libs / STL / Boost, and then other databases for various third party libraries such as QT or glib. Then I could pull something in simply by typing set tags+= ~/.vim/somelib.tags in vim. I assume that everything related to the C++ stdlib and STL are in the /usr/include/c++ and that Boost is all in /usr/include/boost. Unfortunately it seems that the standard C libs and system libs are just kind of dumped directly into /usr/include/ with a variety of other stuff. How can I get a list of which files and directories belong to which libs? I'm on Ubuntu 8.04.

  • Access DB Transaction on insert or updating

    - by Raju Gujarati
    I am going to implement the database access layer of the Window application using C#. The database (.accdb) is located to the project files. When it comes to two notebooks (clients) connecting to one access database through switches, it throws DBConcurrency Exception Error. My target is to check the timestamp of the sql executed first and then run the sql . Would you please provide me some guidelines to achieve this ? The below is my code protected void btnTransaction_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string custID = txtID.Text; string CompName = txtCompany.Text; string contact = txtContact.Text; string city = txtCity.Text; string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["CustomersDatabase"].ConnectionString; OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(connString); connection.Open(); OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand(); command.Connection = connection; OleDbTransaction transaction = connection.BeginTransaction(); command.Transaction = transaction; try { command.CommandText = "INSERT INTO Customers(CustomerID, CompanyName, ContactName, City, Country) VALUES(@CustomerID, @CompanyName, @ContactName, @City, @Country)"; command.CommandType = CommandType.Text; command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CustomerID", custID); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CompanyName", CompName); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ContactName", contact); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@City", city); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); command.CommandText = "UPDATE Customers SET ContactName = @ContactName2 WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID2"; command.CommandType = CommandType.Text; command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CustomerID2", custIDUpdate); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ContactName2", contactUpdate); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); adapter.Fill(table); GridView1.DataSource = table; GridView1.DataBind(); transaction.Commit(); lblMessage.Text = "Transaction successfully completed"; } catch (Exception ex) { transaction.Rollback(); lblMessage.Text = "Transaction is not completed"; } finally { connection.Close(); } }

  • Help with Custom Workflow that checks db

    - by zSysop
    I need to write a workflow that monitors the status of a sql server column/field and does work to some other tables once the column has changed to "Close". (It could wait for days or hours) My application is written in c# .net 3.5. I've done some really simple "hello world" type of apps with windows workflow foundation 3.5 but have not yet grasped how to do go about implementing something like this. Any help with code or articles on this would be extremely useful. Thanks in advance.

  • jqueryUI Slider: Setting minimum and maximum values in range from DB

    - by alexBrand
    I have a jQueryUI slider on my website that deals with price range. I have a products table in mysql that has various entries. I am using the slider to filter the results, but I need to set the minimum and maximum prices from the records in my database. Should I just generate (with php) hidden fields in my html that contain the minimum and maximum and then use jQuery to obtain them? Or is there a better way of achieving this, maybe using AJAX? Thanks

  • sql server - framework 4 - IIS 7 weird sort from db to page

    - by ila
    I am experiencing a strange behavior when reading a resultset from database in a calling method. The sort of the rows is different from what the database should return. My farm: - database server: sql server 2008 on a WinServer 2008 64 bit - web server: a couple of load balanced WinServer 2008 64 bit running IIS 7 The application runs on a v4.0 app pool, set to enable 32bit applications Here's a description of the problem: - a stored procedure is called, that returns a resultset sorted on a particular column - I can see thru profiler the call to the SP, if I run the statement I see correct sorting - the calling page gets the results, and before any further elaboration logs the rows immediately after the SP execution - the results are in a completely different order (I cannot even understand if they are sorted in any way) Some details on the Stored Procedure: - it is called by code using a SqlDatAdapter - it has also an output value (a count of the rows) that is read correctly - which sort field is to be used is passed as a parameter - makes use of temp tables to collect data and perform the desired sort Any idea on what I could check? Same code and same database work correctly in a test environment, 32 bit and not load balanced.

  • script to dynamically fix ophaned users after db restore

My script below loops through all users that are displayed after executing sp_change_users_login 'report' and apply "alter user [username] with login = [username]" to fix SID conflicts verses static go statements. Although, I'm getting an "incorrect syntax error on line 15." can't figure out why... • How to delete duplicate/aggregate rows faster in a file using Java (no DB)

    - by S. Singh
    I have a 2GB big text file, it has 5 columns delimited by tab. A row will be called duplicate only if 4 out of 5 columns matches. Right now, I am doing dduping by first loading each coloumn in separate List , then iterating through lists, deleting the duplicate rows as it encountered and aggregating. The problem: it is taking more than 20 hours to process one file. I have 25 such files to process. Can anyone please share their experience, how they would go about doing such dduping? This dduping will be a throw away code. So, I was looking for some quick/dirty solution, to get job done as soon as possible. Here is my pseudo code (roughly) Iterate over the rows i=current_row_no. Iterate over the row no. i+1 to last_row if(col1 matches //find duplicate && col2 matches && col3 matches && col4 matches) { col5List.set(i,get col5); //aggregate } Duplicate example A and B will be duplicate A=(1,1,1,1,1), B=(1,1,1,1,2), C=(2,1,1,1,1) and output would be A=(1,1,1,1,1+2) C=(2,1,1,1,1) [notice that B has been kicked out]

  • App Engine: how would you... snapshotting entities

    - by Andrew B.
    Let's say you have two kinds, Message and Contact, related by a db.ListProperty of keys on Message. A user creates a message, adds some contacts as recipients, and emails the message. Later, the user deletes one of the contact entities that was a recipient of the message. Our application should delete the appropriate Contact entity, but we want to preserve the original recipient list for the message that was sent for the user's records. In essence, we want a snapshot of the message entity at the time it was sent. If we naively delete the contact entity, though, we lose snapshot integrity; if not, we are left with an invalid key. How would you handle this situation, either in controller logic or model changes? class User(db.Model): email = db.EmailProperty(required=True) class Contact(db.Model): email = db.EmailProperty(required=True) user = db.ReferenceProperty(User, collection_name='contacts') class Message(db.Model): recipients = db.ListProperty(db.Key) # contacts sender = db.ReferenceProperty(User, collection_name='messages') body = db.TextProperty() is_emailed = db.BooleanProperty(default=False)

  • Fastest way to move records from a oracle DB into MS sql server after processing

    - by user347748
    Hi.. Ok this is the scenario...I have a table in Oracle that acts like a queue... A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in MS SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table. We use a datareader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isnt slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. BUt when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second. I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return. Is there a better way of doing this? Here is a snippet of the actual code Function StartDataXfer() As Boolean Dim status As Boolean = False Try SqlConn.Open() OraConn.Open() c.ErrorLog(Now.ToString & "--Going to Get the messages from • Buffering db inserts in multithreaded program

    - by Winter
    I have a system which breaks a large taks into small tasks using about 30 threads as a time. As each individual thread finishes it persists its calculated results to the database. What I want to achieve is to have each thread pass its results to a new persisance class that will perform a type of double buffering and data persistance while running in its own thread. For example, after 100 threads have moved their data to the buffer the persistance class then the persistance class swaps the buffers and persists all 100 entries to the database. This would allow utilization of prepared statements and thus cut way down on the I/O between the program and the database. Is there a pattern or good example of this type of multithreading double buffering?

  • How to bring out checboxes based on drop down list selection from DB

    - by user2199877
    I got stuck again. Can't overcome this step: loop through (in a form of checkboxes) pallets based on the lot drop down list selection, so it can be further submitted to complete the table. Please, please help. So, basically, first submit button (drop down menu) brings into the table lot number and description and also checkboxes to choose pallets. Second submit button (checboxes) brings into the table pallets numbers and weights. Hi, I'm a real beginner with PHP & mysql. Just for studying and for a simple example at school I would like to work this simple query and possibly output all the rows (or maybe even one) to a very basic output on a php page: <?php $user= "root"; $host="localhost"; $password=""; $database = "PetCatalog"; $cxn = mysqli_connect($host,$user,$password,$database) or die ("couldn’t connect to server"); $query = "SELECT * FROM Pet"; $result = mysql_query($cxn,$query) or die ("Couldn’t execute query."); $row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result); echo "$result"; ?> this is the error message i've been getting: Warning: mysql_query() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in C:\xampplite\htdocs\myblog\query.php on line 18 Couldn’t execute query. What should I do? Thanks!

  • Data Visualization Prototype (Java/Eclipse/DAO/Relational DB)

    - by Vince
    Hello, I am building a prototype application which displays various 2D & 3D data charts. I am using a third party library for the charts, the database and data extraction layer have already been coded. Can you advise on a good desktop Framework to use within Eclipse to provide a 'professional' looking GUI with minimum coding required (This is just a prototype). Further can anyone advise an effective method to port this application to a web server so users could access remotely? I have limited experience with GWT, are their more suitable alternatives? Many Thanks

I am sure I am doing something wrong here.

  • Manipulate data in the DB query or in the code

    - by DrDro
    How do you decide on which side you perform your data manipulation when you can either do it in the code or in the query ? When you need to display a date in a specific format for example. Do you retrieve the desired format directly in the sql query or you retrieve the date then format it through the code ? What helps you to decide : performance, best practice, preference in SQL vs the code language, complexity of the task... ?
