• Tab Content Does Not Refresh After First Click of Like Button

  I've implemented a very simple "like guard" for a facebook tab, and am running into an issue with my test users. Multiple testers are reporting that when they open a tab and click the "like" button, they do not always get a page refresh (so the like guard does not disappear until they do a manual reload). This is using facebook's like button at the top of the page, not one I've coded up myself. As a sanity check, I enabled some simple logging on my server and have been able to recreate the issue - I hit "like" or "unlike" but there seems to be no request made to my index.php page, so definitely no refresh happening. I'm aware of this old bug https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/228778937218386 but this one seems different. For starters, after the first click of the "like" button, if I just continue clicking unlike/like/.... then the refresh happens automatically, as expected. What's especially weird is that if I reload the page after the first failed refresh, the refreshes start working again as expected, ie the first update to my like status triggers a page refresh. Some possibly (?) relevant info: My Tab is part of a test page, and is unpublished I am only using http hosting for the tab content, since my https isn't set up yet So far I've just tested with other admins - so maybe user role affects this? Curious to see if anyone has run into this issue before.

• VS2008 Link Error Using SafeInt3.hpp in 64bit mode.

  I have the below code that links and runs fine in 32bit mode - #include "safeint3.hpp" typedef SafeInt<SIZE_T> SAFE_SIZE_T; SAFE_SIZE_T sizeOfCache; SAFE_SIZE_T _allocateAmt; Where safeint3.hpp is current version that can be found on Codeplex SafeInt. For those who are unaware of it, safeint is a template class that makes working with different integer types and sizes "safe". To quote channel 9 video on software - "it writes the code that you should". Which is my case. I have a class that is managing a large in-memory cache of objects (6gb) and I am very concerned about making sure that I don't have overflow/underflow issues on my pointers/sizes/other integer variables. In this use, it solves many problems. My problem is coming when moving from 32bit dev mode to 64bit production mode. When I build the app in this mode, I'm getting the following linker warnings - 1>cachecontrol.obj : warning LNK4006: "bool __cdecl IntrinsicMultiplyUint64(unsigned __int64 const &,unsigned __int64 const &,unsigned __int64 *)" (?IntrinsicMultiplyUint64@@YA_NAEB_K0PEA_K@Z) already defined in ImageInRamCache.obj; second definition ignored 1>cachecontrol.obj : warning LNK4006: "bool __cdecl IntrinsicMultiplyInt64(__int64 const &,__int64 const &,__int64 *)" (?IntrinsicMultiplyInt64@@YA_NAEB_J0PEA_J@Z) already defined in ImageInRamCache.obj; second definition ignored While I understand I can ignore the error, I would like either (a) prevent the warning from occurring or (b) make it disappear so that my QA department doesn't flag it as a problem. And after spending some time researching it, I cannot find a way to do either.

• What are the Limitations for Connecting to an Access Query in Excel

  I have an Access 2007 database that has a number of tables, some are fairly large (100,000+ records); I have created a union query to pull some of the same types of data from multiple tables into one large query for pivot table manipulation and reporting. For example: SELECT Language FROM Table1 UNION ALL SELECT Language FROM Table2 UNION ALL SELECT Language FROM Table3; This works. I found, quickly, however, that a union query will not show up when connecting to the datasource from Excel 2007. So, I created a second query to reference the union query. Like so: SELECT * FROM [The Above Union Query]; This query works and it, initially, was accessible from Excel. Time passed, I've added more data. Suddenly, when I connect to my Access database from Excel my query referencing the union has disappeared. MS Access shows no signs of an issue (data displays in Access) and my other non-union queries are showing up in Excel 2007 ... but not the one that references the union. What could be going on? Why did it disappear? I noticed if I switch some of the referenced tables in the union query to a smaller table (with less rows) all of sudden the query appears in Excel again. At least, I think that's what the difference is. I really can't put my finger on why some of the union queries won't show up and some will. Am stumped and need some guidance. Thanks.

• Center container horizontally and vertically

  Looking over other question on this site, I used a method of setting all the positions to 0 with auto margins, but this has some unwanted behavior. If you resize the window vertically, the top of the container moves off of the top of the page. It needs to stop when it hits the top. • JSplitPane overlaps JButtons in BorderLayout, but does not when layout is null

  So I'm having another issue..... I'm currently using a BorderLayout in my GUI so that when I resize my jframe, all of the internal components resize with it. I couldn't get any other layout to work with how I want the GUI to look while providing this resizing capability. At the top I have a JMenuBar, and below it I have a bunch of buttons. Below that I am supposed to have a JSplitPane, and it is there. However, the buttons seemed to be contained within the JSplitPane, which is not my intention. So when anything happens within the splitpane, the buttons disappear until I move my mouse over them again. When I set my layout to null everything works great except I lose the resizing capability, which is not good. Tried posting images but it wont let me since my rep isnt at 10 yet :( Any suggestions? I've tried putting the buttons into a JPanel then adding the jpanel but the splitpane overlaps with that. Same with a JToolBar. The order in which I add my items is: 1) the menu bar setJMenuBar(menuBar) 2) the buttons getContentPane().add(btnZoomIn) etc. 3) the split pane getContentPane().add(splitPane) then the rest of the things you see after that

• How to efficiently get all instances from deeper level in Cocoa model?

  In my Cocoa Mac app I have an instance A which contains an unordered set of instances B which in turn has an ordered set of instances C. An instance of C can only be in one instance B and B only in one A.   I would like to have an unordered set of all instances C available on instance A. I could enumerate over all instances B each time, but that seems expensive for something I need to do often. However, I am a bit worried that keeping track of instances C in A could become cumbersome and be the cause of  inconsistencies, for example if an instance C gets removed from B but not from A.  Solution 1 Use a NSMutableSet in A and add or remove C instances whenever I do the same operation in B.  Solution 2 Use a weak referenced NSHashTable in A. When deleting a C from B, it should disappear for A as well.  Solution 3 Use key value observing in A to keep track of changes in B, and update a NSMutableSet in A accordingly.  Solution 4 Simply iterate over all instances B to create the set whenever I need it.   Which way is best? Are there any other approaches that I missed?  NB I don't and won't use CoreData for this app.

  I have 2 Auto Complete Views which i have to pre-populate with some text .However as soon as user clicks on the views , the text should disappear and allow user to enter text . I have written two separate on click listeners to do so . The On click listener for the first one is working fine . However i have to double click for the On click listener of the second one to work. • Dynamically changing layout

  I have a 2 x 2 grid of buttons. I would like to center the bottom one, but can't seem to accomplish this. In my code, I call btn4.setVisibility(8); //8 = GONE, which makes my 4th button disappear, but then btn3 ends up filling the entire layout. What I would like it to do instead is center itself within the layout at its correct width / height. I'm a bit new to this, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• retrieving and restoring textview information from sharedpreferences

  I have an activity that allows user to enter notes and store them in dynamically created textviews. However, when the use leaves the activity and returns, all the created textviews disappear. How can i store store or retrieve all of these created textviews, whenever i return to the activity? Also, i think that my sharedpreferences will be overwriting each time a new textview is added.   I have a small problem with my PHP code and It would be very nice if someone could help me. I want to display an image when hovering over a link. This is the link with the PHP code that I have now: <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php if ( has_post_thumbnail() ) {the_post_thumbnail();} else if ( has_post_video() ) {the_post_video_image();}?></a> This code shows a image, but I want to execute this code when hovering over the link with the image: <?php echo print_image_function(); ?> The code also shows a image that belongs to a category. I don't want the initial image to disappear I simply want to show the second image on top off the first image when hovering over the first image. I don't know if it is helpful but I use Wordpress and I am not a PHP expert. I even don't know if this is going to work. Thats why I am asking if somebody can help me with this. Thanks in advance

  I obtained the drivers from the manufacturer for my HT-Link NEC USB 2.0 2-port Cardbus card. When I plugged in the card before I got the drivers, 3 new entries showed up in the Device Manager - two "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" and one "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller." With the card plugged in, I uninstalled those two drivers. I then removed the card. I copied the new drivers to c:\windows\system32\drivers and the .inf file to c:\windows\inf. I also copied the drivers & inf to a new directory called c:\windows\drivers\ousb2. I reinserted the card. Windows automatically installed the same drivers as before. I selected 'update driver' on the "NEC PCI to USB..." entry and didn't see any other options. I then selected 'have disk' and pointed to c:\windows\drivers\ousb2 and got a message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." I then selected 'update driver' on the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB...," and manually selected "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Windows then automatically found a USB root hub, and I manually selected "USB 2.0 Root Hub Device" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Now there are two sections in the Device Manager titled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." I plugged in my external USB hard disk adapter, and "USB Mass Storage Device" was added to the first set. • DVD Drive Failing on Windows 7

  Hello, I have x64 Windows 7 running on an ASUS M50VM. The DVD drive works completely unreliably if not at all. But the story is not that simple so bear with me...here are the gory details. When I first got the machine it came with Windows XP and I upgraded it to Windows Vista X64 and the DVD worked fine. When Windows 7 RC2 came out I tried it on a Virtual Machine and I liked it so much that I upgraded the machine to Win7 RC1. The DVD worked fine. Of course, RC1 was going to start spontaneously rebooting, so when Windows 7 was released I DID A CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 7. Just to clarify...by clean install I mean I did a FORMAT of the HARD DRIVE and INSTALLED it from scratch. EVER since then the DVD mostly doesn't work. I can sometime read from disk but that will often hang. (Please see my description below of HANG for details.) CD or DVD writes ALWAYS fail with a HANG (I have done a successful write only one time.) Here is what I mean by HANG... *Explorer Window is unresponsive. *Any software accessing the DVD drive is unresponsive. *The DVD tray will not eject. *Using a paper clip will eject but the disk is usually spinning real hard. *Attempting to shut down windows will fail. I have waited as long as ten minutes but the whole OS seems to hang. I do a hard shutdown. *Sometimes accessing the DVD (when it does not cause a HANG) will still fail and the device will actually seem to disappear from the system until I reboot. A couple of other things. It is NOT a hardware failure. It is the Windows OS. I know this because I swapped out my DVD drive with a friend with the same model...his machine is fine (he is still running Vista X64) and my machine still fails. For what it is worth. I swapped out my primary disk with the INTEL 160GB SSD. • Impossible to create/format install window 7 on unpartioned HD

  Hi guys i am getting nut reinstalling windows 7 on one of those Acer aspire all-in-one... The original OS(windows professional x64) was not starting, after the initial screen the bios was prompted. So step 1: i tried to access the system partition and reinstall everything but could not get at the point step 2: i set the bios to native ide and i tried to insert my original copy of windows professional and do a clean installation, but it does not allow me to format/create other partion form the installation mask step 3: my BAD, i tried to install ubuntu and i clean the whole hard drive, i was getting an error at some point during installation so i decided to get back to windows step 4: Windows 7 again, at the disk screen of the windows installation i entered into the prompt and played around with DISKPART... -i listed the disk and the HD was disk 0. -i selected disk 0. -i CLEAN disk 0 successfully. -i tried to create a CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY but gave an error cache corrupt and disk not up-to-date (after i try to create a partiton in disk 0 it disappear when i try LIST DISK and i have to restart before he can list DISK 0 again, RESCAN did not worked). -tried CLEAN ALL(2 hours) and succeeded. -try again to create primary partition and failed, same errors -try to install my old copy of windows xP pro and it seems to work, it create a partition, format(only quick worked, slow mode was at 0% after 1 hour so i stop), it start installing and around 90% installation said it could not copy a file and he stop -back on windows 7 again, it says that the hard drive has 490+gb unpartitioned but won't create a partition and format. -i tried again DISKPART as i though i messed up with the MBR when i installed ubuntu, so i did all of the instruction below http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 the errors were: on bootsect: the systne partiton was not found, Data error cyclic redundancy check on bootrec /FixMbr: A device attached to the system is not functioning but did not worked, and still can not partiton/format/install on a blank HD i tried some bootable clean disk tool and start infinite loop on the same errors the bios setting are: sata: native ide. if i put AHCL(or something like that does not load the HD and the DVD). quick start/quite start: disabled. Are there any other option or tools i can try before i try change the HD(That is my last option)? Thanks to everyone.

• DVD Drive Failing on Windows 7

  I have x64 Windows 7 running on an ASUS M50VM. The DVD drive works completely unreliably if not at all. But the story is not that simple so bear with me...here are the gory details. When I first got the machine it came with Windows XP and I upgraded it to Windows Vista X64 and the DVD worked fine. When Windows 7 RC2 came out I tried it on a Virtual Machine and I liked it so much that I upgraded the machine to Win7 RC1. The DVD worked fine. Of course, RC1 was going to start spontaneously rebooting, so when Windows 7 was released I DID A CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 7. Just to clarify...by clean install I mean I did a FORMAT of the HARD DRIVE and INSTALLED it from scratch. EVER since then the DVD mostly doesn't work. I can sometime read from disk but that will often hang. (Please see my description below of HANG for details.) CD or DVD writes ALWAYS fail with a HANG (I have done a successful write only one time.) Here is what I mean by HANG... *Explorer Window is unresponsive. *Any software accessing the DVD drive is unresponsive. *The DVD tray will not eject. *Using a paper clip will eject but the disk is usually spinning real hard. *Attempting to shut down windows will fail. I have waited as long as ten minutes but the whole OS seems to hang. I do a hard shutdown. *Sometimes accessing the DVD (when it does not cause a HANG) will still fail and the device will actually seem to disappear from the system until I reboot. A couple of other things. It is NOT a hardware failure. It is the Windows OS. I know this because I swapped out my DVD drive with a friend with the same model...his machine is fine (he is still running Vista X64) and my machine still fails. For what it is worth. I swapped out my primary disk with the INTEL 160GB SSD. • Email delivery management grievances

  The question I have may be more of principle than anything else, but here's my dilemma. I manage an email system for a small company (about 20 email users). We own a plain-letter .com domain name through Network Solutions. Our email service is hosted by Google Apps. Recently (Feb. 2011) we've been having customers report that they aren't getting our emails. Upon further investigation it seems that the failed emails are all to a common (well known) domain. We have not received any bounce messages for the emails. We've also contacted a few of the intended recipients, who have reported that the messages are not in their spam box; they simply did not receive anything. In these cases we re-sent the same email to an alternate address on another domain, which was successful received. One customer contacted their email provider about the issue. The provider recommended that we submit a form to be white-listed by their domain. Here's where my problem begins. I feel like this is heading down a slippery slope. Doesn't this undermine the very principle of email? If this is the appropriate action to take in these situations where will it end? In theory (following this model) it could be argued that eventually one will first need to "whitelist" (or more appropriately termed "authenticate") themselves with an email host before actually sending any messages. More to this point, what keeps the "bad" spammers from doing the same thing...? We've just gone full circle. I know avoiding anti-spam measures is a big cat-and-mouse game, but I think this is the wrong way of "patching" the problem. Email standards say that messages should not just disappear silently. I have a problem supporting a model that says "you must do < this to make sure your emails aren't ignored". I have a notion to call the provider and voice my complaint, although I have a feeling it will probably fall on deaf ears. Am I missing something here? Is this an acceptable approach to email spam problems? What should I do?

• Remove DRM from *.pdb e-book that I own - while maintaining footnotes, etc.?

  Background: I've already reviewed Remove DRM from ePub Files? and How can I remove DRM from Kindle books? - the answers to which have already brought me partial process. The challenge is that I have a few purchased *.pdb e-books that I purchased in years past, e.g. 2006. In particular, they were purchased from the palm eBook Store (ebooks.palm.com - now defunct, possibly part of http://www.ereader.com / Barnes & Noble?) - originally for use on a Palm Treo that has since died. Of particular note is that I have a revision / publication of a book that is no longer published, and not available as an e-book from anywhere else that I've been able to find. (I feel fortunate to have even found the *.pdb files on backup.) I have a copy of the electronic invoice for it - which includes the details necessary for unlocking - the "Purchaser's Name" and the "Unlock Code" - which is the digits of my credit card # that I had used to purchase it. Given the above information, I was surprised to be able to open the book using the Windows eReader software and unlock it. Here I am able to view the complete contents and functionality of the book as I had done on the Palm Treo - including viewing of linked annotations / footnotes, etc. Following the full spirit of Remove DRM from ePub Files?, I want to ensure that I can access this on any device of my choosing - especially now and in the future, and as new technologies arrive and disappear. Ideally, I'm just looking to accomplish the minimum necessary to allow import into calibre. Outstanding Issue: I've found a few solutions that have given me "90%" success - all based on various versions of some Python scripts - including versions 0.21 and 0.11 of "erdr2pml.py" (based on "ereader2html"). Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, these programs are attempting to also "convert" - instead of just "decrypting". As such, the outputs are missing embedded images and/or footnotes. I.E., there is a linked, underlined, and super-scripted "a" after some text - but the content of the footnote no longer exists. I can validate this by inspecting the generated *.pmlz file, and nowhere does it contain the original footnotes that are still visible in the original *.pdb file. I'm hoping to find a process that focuses on the decryption only, instead of attempting any type of a content conversion - or if a content conversion is required / involved, that it maintains all of the features and content of the original. (Again, I'm confident that if/once a version is obtained that calibre can import, I'll be able to fulfill the rest of my requirements.)

• Problem with USB drivers (Windows-XP)

  I obtained the drivers from the manufacturer for my HT-Link NEC USB 2.0 2-port Cardbus card. When I plugged in the card before I got the drivers, 3 new entries showed up in the Device Manager - two "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" and one "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller." With the card plugged in, I uninstalled those two drivers. I then removed the card. I copied the new drivers to c:\windows\system32\drivers and the .inf file to c:\windows\inf. I also copied the drivers & inf to a new directory called c:\windows\drivers\ousb2. I reinserted the card. Windows automatically installed the same drivers as before. I selected 'update driver' on the "NEC PCI to USB..." entry and didn't see any other options. I then selected 'have disk' and pointed to c:\windows\drivers\ousb2 and got a message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." I then selected 'update driver' on the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB...," and manually selected "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Windows then automatically found a USB root hub, and I manually selected "USB 2.0 Root Hub Device" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Now there are two sections in the Device Manager titled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." I plugged in my external USB hard disk adapter, and "USB Mass Storage Device" was added to the first set. Here's how it looks (w/drivers from the properties): [Universal Serial Bus controllers] Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD (6/1/2002 5.1.2600.0) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) USB Mass Storage Device USB Root Hub (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) (5 more USB Root Hubs - same driver) [Universal Serial Bus controllers] USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1) USB 2.0 Root Hub Device (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1) When I unplug the card the two "NEC PCI to USB..." entries in the first set disappear, and the whole second set disappears. (I unplugged the hard disk adapter first...) The hard disk adapter still doesn't work in that Cardbus card with the new drivers. I don't think the above looks right - a second set of USB controllers listed in the Device Manager, and the NEC entries still in the first set, and the the USB mass storage device still in the first set. Any help appreciated. (Windows XP PRO SP3 w/all current updates.)

• SQLS Timeouts - High Reads in Profiler

  I've audited a SQLS2008 server with Profiler for one day.. the overhead didn't seem to trouble this new client my company has. They are using a legacy VB6 application as a front-end. They're experiencing timeouts once SQLS RAM usage is high. The server is currently running x64 sqls2008 on a VM with nearly 9 GB of RAM. SQL Server's 'max server memory option' is currently set to 6GB. I've put the results of the trace in a table and queried them using this query. SELECT TextData, ApplicationName, Reads FROM [TraceWednesday] WHERE textdata is not null and EventClass = 12 GROUP BY TextData, ApplicationName, Reads ORDER BY Reads DESC As I expected, some values are very high. Top Reads, in pages. 2504188 1965910 1445636 1252433 1239108 1210153 1088580 1072725 Am I correct in thinking that the top one (2504188 pages) is 20033504 KB, which then is roughly ~20'000 MB, 20GB? These queries are often executed and can take quite some time to run. Eventually RAM is used up because of the cache fattening, and timeouts occur once SQL cannot 'splash' pages in the buffer pool as much. Costs go up. Am I correct in my understanding? I've read that I should tune the associated T-SQL and create appropriate indices. Obviously cutting down the I/O would make SQL Server use less RAM. OR, maybe it might just slow down the process of chewing up the whole RAM. If a lot less pages are read, maybe it'll all run much better even when usage is high? (less time swapping, etc.) Currently, our only option is to restart SQL once a week when RAM usage is high, suddenly the timeouts disappear. SQL breathes again. I'm sure lots of DBAs have been in this situation.. I'm asking before I start digging out all of the bad T-SQL and put indices here and there, is there is something else I can do? Any advice except from what I know (not much yet..) Much appreciated. Leo.

• Cloud storage provider lost my data. How to back up next time?

  What do you do when cloud storage fails you? First, some background. A popular cloud storage provider (rhymes with Booger Link) damaged a bunch of my data. Getting it back was an uphill battle with all the usual accusations that it was my fault, etc. Finally I got the data back. Yes, I can back this up with evidence. Idiotically, I stayed with them, so I totally get that the rest of this is on me. The problem had been with a shared folder that works with all 12 computers my business and family use with the service. We'll call that folder the Tragic Briefcase. It is a sort of global folder that's publicly visible to all computers on the service. It's our main repository. Today I decided to deal with some residual effects of the Crash of '11. Part of the damage they did was that in just one of my computers (my primary, of course) all the documents in the Tragic Briefcase were duplicated in the Windows My Documents folder. I finally started deleting them. But guess what. Though they appeared to be duplicated in the file system, removing them from My Documents on the primary PC caused them to disappear from the Tragic Briefcase too. They efficiently disappeared from all the other computers' Tragic Briefcases as well. So now, 21 gigs of files are gone, and of course I don't know which ones. I want to avoid this in the future. Apart from using a different storage provider, the bigger picture is this: how do I back up my cloud data? A complete backup every week or so from web to local storage would cause me to exceed my ISP's bandwidth. Do I need to back up each of my 12 PCs locally? I do use Backupify for my primary Google Docs, but I have been storing taxes, confidential documents, Photoshop source, video source files, and so on using the web service. So it's a lot of data, but I need to keep it safe. Backup locally would also mean 2 backup drives or some kind of RAID per PC, right, because you can't trust a single point of failure? Assuming I move to DropBox or something of its ilk, what is the best way to make sure that if the next cloud storage provider messes up I can restore?
