  • Restrict user to folder (not root) on VSFTPD in Ubuntu

    I am a new Linux (Ubuntu) user and have a VPS where I am setting up a backup FTP service. I have followed this guide, which I have managed to do correctly and it works. I have two users (user1 and user2) with the same directory /home/users/test. user1 can read/write and user2 can only read. This works OK. When the users log in, they go straight into the correct directory /home/users/test, but they can navigate back down to the home directory, which I do not want to happen. I cannot seem to find out how to not allow this, and have them not be able to navigate back to the /home/ or /home/test/ directories.

  • See number of SVN Checkins per folder

    I have a very large SVN repository (working copy of several gb) that has just reached its 20,000th checkin. As a bit of an interesting statistic for our team (and to partly celebrate our 20,000th checkin) I'd like to make a graph showing which folders in the repository have had the most checkins. Is there any way to do this? We mostly use integrated SVN clients in our IDE and Tortoise SVN, but I'm willing to get other tools for this one-off thing.

  • Convert Public Folder to Shared Mailbox

    Due to a change in company policy, all existing Public Folders (PF) have to be phased out in favour of shared mailboxes. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have any procedures or guidelines for this migration and I can't find much online either. I've already migrated one of our public folders so far as a sort of test case. Because we still use Exchange 2003, we can't create real shared mailboxes as we would in 2007 or 2010 (With New-Mailbox -Shared ... in the Exchange Shell). Instead, I simply created a new account on the AD and assigned it a mailbox. I then set the PF's permissions to read-only to keep it in a consistent state and copied the entire folder to a local PST in Outlook 2010, from which the folder was in turn copied to the new mailbox. Permissions and Folder Visible were set for all users and the migration was successful. While this works, the whole procedure feels very hackish to me and not at all efficient. I'd welcome some input on automating or at least streamlining the process. Additionally, we are unsure of what to do with our mail-enabled Public Folders. Several of these are nested under other PFs, some of which are also mail-enabled. Preserving folder structure is a key requirement and this seems impossible at first glance. I've considered creating dummy accounts for all the email addresses from our mail-enabled PFs and then setting up automated rules to forward messages to a subfolder of the new shared mailboxes, but I am not familiar enough with Exchange to know if this is even possible. Further points of concern are the Calendars and Contact lists in our public folders. I suppose I'll be forced to create new mailboxes for every one of these we have as well, then set up share permissions for their Calendar and Contact items, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

  • compare windows server for patch/update/hotfix installs

    Are there any tools that can be used to connect to windows 2008 servers, and get a comparison of the installed patches/updates on the servers, showing what is installed on one and not on the other? This is to help isolate an issue we are seeing on a specific windows server, in a load balanced setup. There is a certain performance/locking issue, which is mitigated whenever one of the servers is disabled. Please share, if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

  • Recover deleted folder form bookmarks bar?

    I googled for this, but didn't find an answer. I removed a folder in Google Chrome's Bookmarks bar. Chrome says nothing when doing this, and I assumed it wouldn't actually delete the data from the Bookmarks manager, just the folder in the Bookmarks bar. Turns out I was wrong, and now I lost hundred's of URLs. I closed and restarted Chrome since then, so data is apparently no longer on disk. Since Google Sync is on by default, it says I have "536 bookmarks", I installed Chrome on another computer, logged on to Google... but the folder is still gone. I can't believe Chrome doesn't prompt the user with an obvious message for something that important. Is there somehow a way to recover a folder removed from the Bookmarks bar? Thank you. Edit: Amazingly, Chrome doesn't 1) provide a way to remove an item from the Bookmarks bar without also deleting it from the Bookmarks list, and 2) doesn't even warn the user of the consequences when doing so! The only way to recover data is: if you haven't closed the browser yet, make a backup of the Bookmarks file, close the browser, replace the now-leaner Bookmarks file with the previous version, and restart Chrome if you have closed it, recover the file from your backup. You did backup that file, right? ;-)

    I have a bunch of comparison data and a lot of entries being compared. As an example, say my sheet looks like this, give or take a few columns: Item Price1 Quantity1 Price2 Quantity2 Price3 Quantity3 001 $123 12 $456 24 $789 48 002 $100 95 $200 5 $300 51 For each item (row), I want to be able to look at all of the Quantity columns and find which one has the highest quantity. Ideally I'd be able to run a condition of some sort on the entire excel sheet at once, and it would highlight in red the highest quantity. So the results would be a red "48" (qty3) for Item 001 and a red "95" (qty1) for Item 002. Only the color would change, not any data, and no new rows would need to be created. Let me know if you need more info

    Hi, I have some objects that have 3 sorting options: quality, quatity and a compare against the other object, sorted by that order. - (NSComparisonResult) compare: (MyObject *) obj { if (self.quality > obj.quality) return NSOrderedAscending; else if (self.quality < obj.quality) return NSOrderedDescending; if (self.quantity > obj.quantity) return NSOrderedAscending; else if (self.quantity < obj.quantity) return NSOrderedDescending; if ([self betterThan: obj]) return NSOrderedAscending; if ([obj betterThan: self]) return NSOrderedDescending; return NSOrderedSame; } My problem is that, the betterThan: method might cause a cyclic compare if the objects have the same quality and quantity, and I want to return any sort order in that case. For example, A, B and C have the same quality/quantity, but A betterThan: B => YES B betterThan: C => YES C betterThan: A => YES Solutions? Thanks.

    My Requirement: I have this straight forward requirement of listing names of people in alphabetical order in a Indexed table view with index titles being the starting letter of alphabets (additionally a search icon at the top and # to display misc values which start with a number and other special characters). What I have done so far: 1. I am using core data for storage and "last_name" is modelled as a String property in the Contacts entity 2.I am using a NSFetchedResultsController to display the sorted indexed table view. Issues accomplishing my requirement: 1. First up, I couldn't get the section index titles to be the first letter of alphabets. Dave's suggestion in the following post, helped me achieve the same: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1112521/nsfetchedresultscontroller-with-sections-created-by-first-letter-of-a-string The only issue I encountered with Dave' suggestion is that I couldn't get the misc named grouped under "#" index. What I have tried: 1.   • Finding files with bash and copy to another location and reducing depth of folders

    I'm trying to recover a mates hard drive, there is no structure what so ever so music and images are everywhere but in named folders sometimes 5 folders deep, I've managed to write a one-liner that finds the files and copies them to a mounted drive but it preserves the file structure completely. What I'm after is a bit of code that searches the drive and copies to another location and copies just the parent folder with the mp3/jpg files within and not the complete path. The other issue I have is the music is /folder/folder/folder/Artist/1.mp3..2.mp3..10.mp3 etc etc so I have to preserve the folder 'Artist' to give him any hope of finding his tracks again. What I have working currently: find /media/HP/ -name *.mp3 -fprintf /media/HP/MUSIC/Script.sh 'mkdir -p "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h" \n cp "%h/%f" "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h/"\n' I then run the script.sh and it does all the copying. What I would like is to have that function on my mac and I am wondering if anyone knows how to do this. I understand Ubuntu is Linux and Mac well its from Linux has all the features of Linux but is a mac. The feature may not be there but if it is, it would help me alot.     Recently I've become very interested in setting up a fileserver, mostly for home usage but also because of the fact that I live in 2 places, I need to be able to access my files from both homes. I have already done some research into this but I am unclear about some things. My requirements are the following; Needs to work on both Mac and PC(only using Windows atm on PC but could be good if it supports more OS's to make it futureproof in case I need Linux or something else) Need to be able to set up a folder/drive/network space to act as a link to a certain folder on the fileserver All files should only be stored on the fileserver, e.g. no "shared" folders like in Dropbox where files are stored on the client computer Would prefer it if folders are password protected or that I can somehow specify what users can access the fileserver's shares Fileserver's OS most likely have to be Windows due to other factors outside of being just a fileserver I've already kinda figured out that I will need to set up a VPN so that I can access my fileserver from outside the local network. Probably going to use OpenVPN. Question 1: How would I go about to set up a VPN server so that I can connect to my local network at the fileserver's location? I know that since I'm on a dynamic IP I will have to get some sort of dynamic DNS server - I've already checked into this and I'm fairly sure I know how to fix that. I also know that I will have to forward the port OpenVPN uses in my router. Question 2: How would I actually share the folders on the fileserver so that I can access them on my other computers? I've researched into Samba but I'm uncertain if it needs to be run on a Linux OS. I know that the clients connecting to it can be Windows for example but can the Samba "server" be run on Windows? Also it appears that Samba shares a folder, meaning it works like Dropbox - I don't want that. So how would I share a folder in that case to make it work like I want it to? Sorry for the incredibly long question, I tried to structure it the best I could for easier read. Thanks in advance!

  • Clone roaming Appdata in two places

    I have my users appdata (roaming) stored on a external server in the location that they're normally in. I have some users that are in two locations equally. This provides a problem when someone tries to open up Firefox on a computer in a location other than where their appdata is stored, it takes forever. Is there a way that I can clone the redirected appdata (roaming) folder to two locations and have the folder redirection look for appdata (roaming) based on the location that the user is at?
