  • how to hide table columns in jQuery?

    I've a table with lots of columns. I want to give users the option to select columns to be shown in table. These options would be checkboxes along with the column names. So how can I hide/unhide table columns based on checkboxes? Would hiding (using .hide()) each td in each row work? May be I can assign checkbox value to the location of column in table. So first checkbox means first column and so on. And then recursively hide that 'numbered' td in each row. Would that work?

  • If you're not supposed to use Regular Expressions to parse HTML, then how are HTML parsers written?

    I see questions every day asking how to parse or extract something from some HTML string and the first answer/comment is always "Don't use RegEx to parse HTML, lest you feel the wrath!" (that last part is sometimes omitted). This is rather confusing for me, I always thought that in general, the best way to parse any complicated string is to use a regular expression. So how does a HTML parser work? Doesn't it use regular expressions to parse. One particular argument for using a regular expression is that there's not always a parsing alternative (such as JavaScript, where DOMDocument isn't a universally available option). jQuery, for instance, seems to manage just fine using a regex to convert a HTML string to DOM nodes. Not sure whether or not to CW this, it's a genuine question that I want to be answered and not really intended to be a discussion thread.

  • How to MakeTable ReadOnly including contents like images

    I have a table which has two text boxes and a image beside it to click and open a popup. In read-only mode based on condition I am able to make text boxes read-only but images are not becoming read-only.One solution I had is the anchor tag associated with image calls for JavaScript where I can check for a dummy click when it is in read-only mode. The problem here is the function is common and effects everywhere. So is there a way to make the entire table read-only so that no extra workaround needs to done.   • Change table view ( style grouped ) background color ?

    Hi all, I am developing an iPad application in which I need a table view ( style grouped ) having background color as clearColor. My problem is [self.tableView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]]; works well if the table view style is plain but when I switch to group table view the background color does not changes it stays gray in color. FYI: the contentview background color of tableviewcell also does not change. Is this a bug in iPhone-sdk or I am doing something wrong. Thanks, Madhup

  • PHP Simple_html_dom issue

    The snippet below loops through some web pages, grabs the html and then looks for table.results and gets the plaintext out of the tags contained in each . $results is ok. Now I'm trying to get the href value of an tag that is found in the second of each . I'd like to include this in the $results array, but I'm not sure how to do this. The third foreach statement gets them but then I need to merge $links with $results. Ideally I'd also get the links in the second foreach statement.   • Converting HTML special characters into their value using Python

    I have a file that's littered with these: http://www.utexas.edu/learn/html/spchar.html That link just displays all sorts of HTML entities, such as – &ndash; — &mdash; ¡ &iexcl; and so on. Is it possible in Python to natively convert these characters back into their values so any occurrences of &ndash; will appear as – instead? My current approach was just to make a dict of key html entities and their utf-8 values and do search and replace, but I was wondering if there are any libraries that can take care of this for me.

  • datatables.net plugin hides table behind left menu

    I had a page that works perfectly in IE. Then I added the wonderful jQuery plugin datatables.net to it using this code in DOMReady with this code $('#articlestable-container table').dataTable({ "bPaginate": true, "bLengthChange": false, "bFilter": true, "bSort": false, "bInfo": false, "bAutoWidth": false }); Everything is fine in Webkit and Firefox browsers. See the image. But in IE, the table hides the menu that ideally should come over the table like this. As you can see, the sub-menu gets rendered behind the table. I don't think z-index is the culprit here. The sub-menu has z-index: 9999; anyway. What could be wrong? Any pointers to solve this will be very helpful.

    so im having problems with adding another primary key to my table. i have 3 columns: 1. Account ID (Identity) 2. EmailID 3. Data field when i made the table i had this to make the Account ID and the Email ID unique PRIMARY KEY (AccountID, EmailID) i thought that would make my emailid unique, but then after i tried inserting another row with the same emailid it went through. so i thought i missed something out. now for my question: IF, i had to use alter, How do i alter the table/PK Constraint to modify the EmailID field and make it Unique IF i decided to drop the table and made a new one, how do i make those two primary keys uniqe?   • Optimizing MySQL for ALTER TABLE of InnoDB

    Sometime soon we will need to make schema changes to our production database. We need to minimize downtime for this effort, however, the ALTER TABLE statements are going to run for quite a while. Our largest tables have 150 million records, largest table file is 50G. All tables are InnoDB, and it was set up as one big data file (instead of a file-per-table). We're running MySQL 5.0.46 on an 8 core machine, 16G memory and a RAID10 config. I have some experience with MySQL tuning, but this usually focusses on reads or writes from multiple clients. There is lots of info to be found on the Internet on this subject, however, there seems to be very little information available on best practices for (temporarily) tuning your MySQL server to speed up ALTER TABLE on InnoDB tables, or for INSERT INTO .. SELECT FROM (we will probably use this instead of ALTER TABLE to have some more opportunities to speed things up a bit). The schema changes we are planning to do is adding a integer column to all tables and make it the primary key, instead of the current primary key. We need to keep the 'old' column as well so overwriting the existing values is not an option. What would be the ideal settings to get this task done as quick as possible?

    Hello It seems the most common aproach to web design is to use HTML/XHTML & CSS in conjunction with other technologies or languages like Javascript or PHP. On a theoretical level, I'm interested to know what other languages or technologies could be used to build an entire site without using a single HTML tag or CSS style for styling/positioning? Could a website be made only using XML or PHP alone, including actual styling and positioning? Presumably Flash sites are till embedded in HTML tags? Thanks

  • MVC 2 - Name Attributes on HTML Input Field when using Parent/Child Entities

    Hi All, I'm pretty new to MVC 2 using the Entity Framework. I have two tables Company {ID int identity PK,Name nvarchar} and User {ID int identity PK,UserName nvarchar,CompanyID int FK}. A Foreign Key exists between User and Company. I generated my ADO.NET Entity Data Model, a Controller and a view to insert a record. My HTML form has the fields Company and UserName and the idea is when I click save a Company and User is inserted into the database. Sounds straight forward right! My question is as follows: I created a strongly-typed view derived from my 'User' entity. I'm using the the html helper Html.TextBoxFor(model = model.Organisation.Name) but the html name attribute for this input field is 'Organisation.Name'. My problem with this is that the dot throws up all sorts of issues in JQuery, which sees this as a property. If I want to change the name I read that I can use DataAnnotations but because I used the Entity Designer this involves using Buddy Classes. Seems like a bit of overkill just to change the html name attribute on this input field. Am I approaching this the right way or am I missing something here? Thanks for the help !

    I am looking to allow HTML emails (and other HTML uploads) without letting in scripts and stuff. I plan to have a white list of safe tags and attributes as well as a whitelist of CSS tags and value regexes (to prevent automatic return receipt). I asked a question: Parse a badly formatted XML document (like an HTML file) I found there are many many ways to do this. Some systems have built in sanitizers (which I don't care so much about). I will post some answers and say Community Wiki. Please post any other options you like and say Community Wiki so they can be voted on. Also any comments or wiki edits on what part of a certain product is better and what is not would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to code it so when the combined width of all the headers causes one of them to wrap that the table columns switch to using vertical text (writing-mode: tb-rl).     Hi, I need to send HTML emails directly from oracle PL/SQL package. This works almost fine. I have problem with the fact that some of the data fetched from a table contain things like <S>, <L>, and similar fragments, which sometimes ar treated as HTML tags, and even if not, they are always ignored and never displayed. So, I need to escape this column before inserting into email body. Is there a function to escape html special chars into entities automaticly? Or do I need to replace('<','&lt;',string) manually all the special characters? I found a function to escape URLs but not one for HTML :( Best regards, SWilk

  • Directly embedding JPEGs in an HTML file

    I can embed a mime encoded JPEG in an html page by saving the page from IE using the File-SaveAs menu and selecting (Web Archive, single file (*.mht)). Renaming this .mht file with .eml enables Outlook to open it and send an HTML email. My questions are: How can I embed JPEG images directly in HTML pages (no external files). Are the images just mime encoded inline in the HTML? It appears that this is IE specific. Do any other browsers support this functionality?
